L'Aventure Estate Cuvee 2018 Paso Robles mit 100 Punkte von Jeb DunnuckJeb Dunnuck im September 2020:

The 2018 Estate Cuvee checks 45% Syrah. 40% Cabernet Sauvignon. 15% Petit Verdot brought up in 90% new French oak. Tasting like the straight Cab. yet with more sex appeal. it offers a huge nose of crème de cassis. white flowers. crushed stone. graphite. and crushed flowers. This carries to a full-bodied. gorgeously textured red with incredible balance. no hard edges. a thrilling mid-palate. and a great. great finish. It's going to benefit from 5-6 years of bottle age and keep for upwards of two decades or more. Hats off to winemaker Stephan Asseo on another incredible wine. as well as. I suspect the wine of the vintage.

94-96+ Punkte vom Wine Advocate für den Erin Brooks im Februar 2020:

A barrel sample blended of 45% Syrah. 40% Cabernet Sauvignon and 15% Petit Verdot aging in about 90% new oak. the 2018 Estate Cuvée has a very deep ruby-purple color and explodes to crème de cassis. black cherries. blueberry and boysenberry preserves with accents of violet. grilled lamb. dried thyme. coffee. soil and chocolate with exotic spices in the undercurrent. The full-bodied palate is incredibly pixelated and silky with very bold freshness and a long. layered finish. I can't wait to see taste this beauty from bottle.

- 100% estate grown fruit from L’Aventure Vineyard
- 90% new French oak and 10% 1-year-old French oak. with malolactic fermentation in barrel
- Length of aging: 15 months
- No fining. no filtering

Stephan Asseo. founder and winemaker at L’Aventure Winery. began making wine in 1982 when he established Domaine Courteillac in Bordeaux. He and his family later purchased Chateau Fleur Cardinal (Saint-Emilion Grand Cru) and Chateau Robin (Cotes de Castillion). Over the next 15 years. Stephan developed into an artisan winemaker of fastidious craftsmanship. and gained a reputation as a maverick vigneron. However. his true desire was to be more innovative than AOC law would allow. In 1996. this led him on a quest for a great terroir. where he could pursue his ideal as a winemaker.

After searching for over a year among the world’s great wine fields. Stephan found Paso Robles. He immediately “fell in love” with the unique terroir. The rolling topography of the Santa Lucia Mountain Range. the deep calcareous soils. and the maritime influence of the renowned Templeton Gap all combine to produce a world class wine country. with the potential to craft some of the world’s greatest blends. It is here. in Paso Robles. that Stephan began his adventure. “L’Aventure”. His winemaking vision has quickly resulted in wines which have earned high scores and critical acclaim.

Quite the bottle here! Spices. such as nutmeg and cinnamon. as well as dried meat and plums with cedar and sandalwood. Full body. Deep and dense in the center palate and a long. long finish. Shows finesse and tightness. Very polished tannins. Long and ethereal. Try after 2023

98+ Punkte vom Wine Advocate für den Chateau Cos d Estournel 2017 Saint EstepheLisa Perrotti Brown bewertet den Chateau Gloria 2017 Saint Julien im März 2020:

Composed of 66% Cabernet Sauvignon. 32% Merlot. 1% Petit Verdot and 1% Cabernet Franc. yields for the grand vin in 2017 were 43 hectoliters per hectare. and it was aged in 60% new oak. It came in at an alcohol of 13% and an IPT of 68. Deep garnet-purple colored. the 2017 Cos d'Estournel needs a little coaxing to unfurl. revealing beautiful expressions of preserved plums. boysenberries. blackcurrant pastilles and wild blueberries with hints of Indian spices. menthol. lilacs and mossy tree bark plus a compelling suggestion of iron ore.

Medium to full-bodied. the palate has a solid backbone of firm. grainy tannins and well-knit freshness supporting the tightly wound blue and black fruits layers. finishing long and fragrant. This wine will need a good 5-7 years in bottle before it begins to blossom and should go on for at least another 40 years. I expect this wine to be a blockbuster of a head-turner when I come back and taste it at 10 years of age!

A bold. dramatic wine. the 2017 Cos d'Estournel is seriously impressive today. Time in barrel has done wonders for the 2017. a wine that has really gained depth in élevage. Black cherry. chocolate. spice. new leather. licorice. smoke and incense infuse the 2017 with tons of character. with the 60% new oak very well judged. In 2017. Cos has a level of textural resonance that eludes many Saint-Estèphes. The blend is 66% Cabernet Sauvignon. 32% Merlot. 1% Petit Verdot and 1% Cabernet Franc.

The 2017 Cos d’Estournel showed extremely well from barrel and likewise in bottle. continuing this estate’s strong run of form since the 2014 vintage. You instantaneously fall in love with the nose that bursts forth with blackberry. raspberry coulis. crushed stone. iodine and pressed iris petal. The 60% new oak is beautifully integrated. Quintessentially Cos d’Estournel. The palate is medium-bodied with supple black fruit laced with black truffle and graphite. quite Pauillac-like in style. which is no surprise given its location. This is very focused and perhaps understated compared to the 2016. yet its freshness and vivacity are undeniable. "Streamlined. cool and linear" I wrote at en primeur... I have no reason to alter that sentiment.

Blackberries and blueberries with subtle black chocolate and violets on the nose, following to a full-bodied palate with polished, creamy tannins. Beautiful balance and really refined texture. Drink after 2024, but already so gorgeous.

97+ Punkte vom Wine Advocate für den Chateau Clinet 2018 PomerolLisa Perrotti Brown bewertet den Chateau Clinet 2018 Pomerol wie folgt:

The 2018 Clinet is a blend of 85% Merlot and 15% Cabernet Sauvignon, aged for approximately 16 months in French oak barriques, 75% new. Deep garnet-purple colored, the nose is locked down tight at first sniff, requiring a good amount of air to begin to reveal profound notions of stewed black plums, mulberries and black cherry compote, plus hints of black truffles, damp soil, tobacco leaf and chargrill with an emerging waft of cedar. The full-bodied palate is a full-on volcano of black fruit and molten rock waiting to erupt, with a solid frame of firm, grainy tannins and bold freshness, finishing with amazing length. There is a lot going on here, but it is a wine for the patient. Give it a good 5-7 years in bottle, at least, and drink it over the next 30+ years.

99 Punkte von Jeb Dunnuck für den Chateau Clinet 2018 PomerolJeb Dunnuck bewertet den Chateau Clinet 2018 Pomerol wie folgt:

Including slightly more Cabernet Sauvignon than usual, the 2018 Château Clinet is 85% Merlot and 15% Cabernet Sauvignon that was brought up in 75% new French oak. One of the superstars of the vintage, it has incredible elegance and finesse as well as gorgeous richness and depth. Notes of cassis and truffly dark fruits as well as tobacco, damp earth, chocolate, and lead pencil shavings emerge from the glass, and it's full-bodied, with a seamless, multi-dimensional texture, gorgeous tannins, and a great, great finish. It already offers incredible pleasure, but it won't hit maturity for another 5-7 years and should evolve for 30 years or more. This magical wine is in the same league as the 2015 and 2016, and drinking these beauties over the coming decades will be an incredible treat.

99 Punkte James Suckling für den Sena Valle de Aconcagua 2017Verkostungsnotiz von James Suckling vom 07. August 2019:

The aromas of blackberries. cedar. sandalwood and black tea are compelling. Black olives. Rosemary and sage undertones. Full-bodied. rich and powerful Seña with impressive and powerful tannins. yet harmony and balance. Fruit-forward. Lightly chewy. Fresh and energetic wine in a hot year. Broad-shouldered. Drink after 2022.

96+ Punkte vom Wine Advocate für den Sena Valle de Aconcagua 2017Verkostungsnotiz von Luis Gutiérrez vom 30. August 2019:

They explained how the 2017 Seña was produced with "grapes that were handpicked in the morning and transported to the winery in 12-kilogram boxes for a careful inspection on a double sorting table. The grapes fermented in stainless steel tanks at 25 to 31 degrees Celsius (77 to 88 degrees Fahrenheit). depending on the variety and the level of extraction desired. Three pump-overs were carried out daily during fermentation to rotate the volume of the tank 0.5 to 1.5 times. Total maceration time ranged from 15 to 30 days for the Cabernet Sauvignon. Merlot. Malbec and Carmenère and eight to 12 days for the Petit Verdot. according to the development of each block vinified. The final blend was racked to French oak barrels (67% new) and aged for 22 months. during which time malolactic fermentation and stabilization occurred naturally."

They harvested early and managed to keep the same alcohol level as the 2016. This has less aromatic exuberance and is a more serious vintage with good concentration and weight. not as aerial as the 2016. They increased the amount of wine matured in larger 2.500-liter foudres instead of barrique. This is more powerful. structured and concentrated. like a drier version of the 2015. with some grainy tannins. more acidity. more austerity and less primary fruit. The tannins have some grip (the earlier harvest perhaps?) and might need a little bit of time in bottle. and the wine seems to have what it takes to develop nicely in bottle. They produced 120.000 bottles of this. It was bottled in February and March 2019. Just for the record. the varietal breakdown is 52% Cabernet Sauvignon. 15% Malbec. 15% Carmenère. 10% Cabernet Franc and 8% Petit Verdot. reflecting a good year for Carmenère and Cabernet Franc.

96 Puntke James Suckling für den Le Petit Clos 2017 Zweitwein Clos ApaltaVerkostungsnotiz von James Suckling vom 19. Februar 2020:

This is so delicious with blackcurrants. spice. sweet tobacco. lavender and roses. Full-bodied. tight and very polished with gorgeous texture and finesse. Shows tannin tension at the end. A blend of mostly cabernet sauvignon. the rest cabernet franc. Better after 2022.

93+ Parker Punkte und Best Ever für den Petit Clos 2017Luis Gutierrez am 31.08.2020
(Best Ever beim Wineadvocate)

The second wine. in the Bordeaux sense. the 2017 Le Petit Clos has a different blend from the grand vin. in this case 68% Cabernet Sauvignon. 16% Carmenere. 9% Cabernet Franc. 5% Merlot and 2% Petit Verdot and is quite different every year. It fermented in 7.500-liter oak vats with indigenous yeasts and a four- to five-week maceration followed by malolactic in new barriques. It matured in new French barriques for six months and spent the next 16 months in first. second and third use French oak barrels. I found a lot less influence from the oak here than in the "grand vin" and a more classical profile with dominance of the Cabernet Sauvignon—ripe without excess. powerful and concentrated but with very good balance. It's quite approachable even when it feels quite youthful; the tannins are round. and the wine is neat and velvety with some creaminess. It has an elegant profile within the powerful character of the vintage. It surpassed my expectations. and I find it every bit as good as the 2016. 72.000 bottles produced. It was bottled in October 2019. This has only been produced since 2014.

So aromatic and fresh with dried flowers, sweet tobacco and hints of straw. Red fruit, cloves and green peppercorns. Medium-to full-bodied with fine tannins that are very fresh and refined. Fine, silky and beautiful. Hints of minerals and granite to the dark fruit. Such gorgeous length and beauty. 64% carmenere, 18% cabernet franc and 18% merlot. Extremely long and poised. Cooler wine. From biodynamically grown grapes. Delicious to drink already, but another three to four years will make it even better.

Clos Apalta 2018 Valle de Apalta mit 96 Punkten vom Wine Advocate ausgezeichnetLuis Gutierrez am 31.08.2021:

There is a lot of Carmenere character on the nose of the 2018 Clos Apalta, which was produced with 64% Carmenere, 18% Cabernet Sauvignon and 18% Merlot, a blend that is similar to the one used in 2016. The wine is not shy at all and hits the scale at 15% alcohol. It's showy, heady, hedonistic, aromatic, full-bodied and lush with abundant velvety tannins and a long and powerful finish where the notes of black peppercorns and tea and tobacco leaves dominate. This might not be a wine for everybody, but fans of the style will love it. 92,748 bottles produced. It was bottled in October 2020.

Dezember 2018:

The 2016 Cardinale is distinctly aromatic and nuanced. In 2016. winemaker Chris Carpenter built Cardinale around a core of Spring Mountain fruit. Perhaps for that reason. Cardinale is a bit more refined in the early going than is often the case. Silky. fine-grained tannins and mid-weight structure frame expressive dark cherry. plum. chocolate and new leather. but it is really the wine's overall feel that stands out most. A dollop of Merlot adds to a feeling of openness in this super-expressive Cardinale from winemaker Chris Carpenter. A range of sites in Stags Leap. Howell Mountain. Diamond Mountain. Mt.

The 2018 Adrianna Vineyard Mundus Bacillus Terrae started with a marked creamy and lactic note, reflecting a very young and tender wine that started with a lot of malic acid. It has lower alcohol and higher acidity than the other two Adrianna bottlings; it's vibrant and lively, nicely textured and surprisingly fresh. The creamy and lactic note disappeared after some time in the glass, giving way to fresher notes, almost citrus. They have also done a selection of individual plants, discarding some plants in lower parts, and the wine has gained in precision and freshness. They used a high percentage of full clusters and fermented it in concrete with indigenous yeasts and matured it in used oak barrels for 18 months. In 2018, the three Adrianna bottlings have more defined character; the differences are more marked than in a year like 2017. This has to be among the finest vintages for the Mundus Bacillus Terrae. 4,800 bottles were filled in November 2019.

98 Sucklingpunkte für denJames Suckling am 2. April 2020 über den Mundus Bacillus Terrae 2018:

This is a really deep, decadent red, showing incredibly rich black soil, black olives and violets. Full body and rich tannins that exude power and intensity. Lots of white pepper and black fruit in the aftertaste. Extremely persistent. This is a bottle for the cellar. Try after 2024.
