South Australia

Weinregion South Australia:

Heartland Directors Cut Shiraz Langhorne Creek 2018
Neue Ware ab ca. Mitte Februar 2022.

Tasting Notes:

The dark purple colour is a clear indication of the intensity that awaits in your glass. The nose is inundated with berry compote and a decorative topping of fresh berries. These are accented by whispers of spice. The palate offers juicy plums and chocolate dipped dried fruits. There are hints of oregano and thyme to be sort out. The finish is long and the freshness unmistakable.

Vinification:
The grapes are selected from some of the best Shiraz vineyards in the region. These vineyards are chosen for the consistent intensity and texture of the fruit. The strictest pruning techniques are used. The fruit for Directors’ Cut Shiraz was harvested at
night and then crushed to small open top stainless-steel fermenters. After 24 hours of skin contact fermentation was commenced with our Rhône isolate yeast. Following 10 days of cool fermentation on skins and pumped over 3 times daily, the wine was transferred to French and American oak hogsheads for 14 months maturation. In the 2018 vintage we have limited ourselves to 40% new oak to ensure the fruit remained the focus.

2018 Vintage:
Steady winter rainfall and multiple flood events gave us a good storage of moisture and healthy vines leading into the growing season. Higher than average summer temperatures have offered up robust fruit characters that Shiraz loves to present.

Shaw & Smith Pinot Noir 2018 Adelaide Hills

The 2018 vintage has a concentrated core of red berry fruits including raspberries and cherries. It is vibrant and more opulent than other years.

Outstanding quality from a growing season that threatened. at times. to be tricky. After some heat in January. the moderate. dry and sunny months of February and March delivered beautifully balanced fruit. Crop levels were slightly below average. enhancing flavour and intensity.

Pinot Noir is the most temperamental of varieties and remains a challenge for site. season and winemaking - Shaw + Smith has joined the quest albeit in a ‘small batch’ way. First produced experimentally in 2004 and commercially in 2007. Site selection. the right clonal mix. minuscule yields and fastidious vineyard management are essential to success.

Shaw & Smith Adelaide Hills Shiraz 2017
96

Shaw & Smith Adelaide Hills Shiraz 2017 mit 96 SucklingpunktenVerkostungsnotiz James Suckling vom 02. Juli 2020:

A cooler vintage has bent this to a peppery and spicy zone with a very fragrant, sappy delivery of bright raspberries, red plums and blackberries. Oak bolsters the spicy direction of the fruit here. The palate has a succulent and mouthwateringly fresh core of red fruit with sleek and long, polished tannins. Red-cherry and plum finish. Drink now. Screw cap.

95 Sucklingpunkte für denVerkostungsnotiz James Suckling vom 02. Juli 2020:

Very attractive blueberries and dark plums here with earthy and spicy aromas, as well as black pepper. The palate is filled with fleshy fruit and has dark-cherry, cherry-liqueur and dark-chocolate flavors in abundance. Long flavors, plush smooth tannins and certainly a richer iteration of this wine. Drink or hold. Screw cap.

Style: Shaw + Smith Shiraz is a medium bodied cool-climate Shiraz, in which balance is more important than power.
The 2018 vintage is defined by balance and effortless flow. It was a great season for Shiraz with generosity, but structure to match.
Season: Outstanding quality from a growing season that threatened, at times, to be tricky. After some heat in January, the moderate, dry and sunny months of February and March delivered beautifully balanced fruit. Crop levels were slightly below average, enhancing flavour and intensity.
Source: From low yielding vines predominantly at Balhannah in the central Adelaide Hills, and from Echunga and Macclesfield to the south.
Vinification: Hand picked and fermented as a combination of whole berries and whole bunches in open fermenters, with gentle plunging and minimal working. Aged in French oak for fourteen months, of which one third was new.

Penfolds Grange 2014 BIN 95 Shiraz South Australia
98

98 Parker Punkte für den Penfolds Grange 2014 BIN 95 Shiraz South AustraliaJoe Czerwinski beschreibt den Penfolds Grange 2013 am 04.Oktober 2018 wie folgt:

Rich. concentrated and intense. the 2014 Grange delivers exactly what we've come to expect from this Penfolds icon wine. It's full-bodied. velvety in feel and loaded with plummy fruit. framed in vanilla and cedar. Dense. powerful and tannic. it should prove to be long lived. even by Grange standards. Gago doesn't rate the vintage overall that highly. but he says the selection this year for Grange was a bit more stringent and that production levels were just average. There are still over 1.000 cases for the United States.
