97 Suckling Punkte für den Chateau Trotte Vieille 2019 Saint EmilionJames Suckling über den Chateau Trotte Vieille 2019 Saint Emilion:
Aromas and flavors of dark fruit, plums, mushrooms, pine cones, cedar and tile. Full-bodied, yet reserved, with ultra-fine tannins that spread across the palate. So layered and beautiful. Hints of crushed stone and deep earth on the finish. Steely at the end. Give this time. Try after 2025.

94 Punkte vom Vinous-Team für den Chateau Trotte Vieille 2019 Saint EmilionAntonio Galloni (Vinous) bewertet den Chateau Trotte Vieille 2019 Saint Emilion:
The 2019 Trotte Vieille is burly, deep and powerful, not to mention loaded with character. Espresso, chocolate, iron, leather, licorice and sweet spice add to an impression of virile power and intensity. Big, strapping tannins add to an impression of muscle. The 2019 needs time, but it is a hugely promising wine. It is also one of the most tannic wines in Saint-Émilion.

94 Punkte vom Vinous-Team für den Chateau Trotte Vieille 2019 Saint EmilionNeal Martin (Vinous) zum Chateau Trotte Vieille 2019 Saint Emilion:
The 2019 Trotte Vieille has closed up a little on the nose, yet there are still very attractive black cherries and iodine scents on the nose that gradually unfold with aeration. A touch of fresh fig appears in the background. The well-balanced palate delivers pure blackberry and raspberry fruit laced with graphite and minerals. Almost Left Bank in style, this shows great clarity and fans out wonderfully on the finish. Superb.

93 Punkte vom Wine Spectator für den Chateau Trotte Vieille 2019 Saint EmilionFür den Wine Spectator verköstigte James Molesworth denChateau Trotte Vieille 2019 Saint Emilion:
This delivers a very forthright beam of dark currant, plum and blackberry fruit flavors that show a distinct roasted edge, while singed tobacco leaf, juniper and cedar notes fill in through the finish. A touch austere in the end, though there's depth and length here. Cabernet Franc, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon. Best from 2024 through 2037. 3,000 cases made.

The 2019 Berliquet is showing beautifully, wafting from the glass with aromas of cherries, wild berries, sweet spices, violets and forest floor. Medium to full-bodied, seamless and elegant, with terrific depth at the core, lively acids and ripe, powdery tannins, it concludes with a long, mineral finish. It's produced from a 9.5-hectare vineyard that encompasses three soil types: Saint-Émilion's limestone plateau (like its sibling, Château Canon); the slope, characterized by deep clay; and then sandy, colluvial soils at the foot of the slope. Right now it's planted with 70% Merlot and the balance Cabernet Franc, but the percentage of the latter is increasing as replanting progresses.

A very tannic and powerful red this year, with blueberry, walnut and stone character. Tar undertones. Full and chewy. Flavorful finish. A bit extracted, so needs time to soften. Try after 2028.

92-94 Punkte vom Wine Advocate für den Chateau Lassegue 2020 Saint Emilion Grand CruLIsa Perrotti Brown beschrieb den Lassegue 2020 im Mai 2021 wie folgt: Deep purple-black colored, the 2020 Lassegue needs a little swirling to begin, to unlock bright, cheery scents of fresh blackberries, black raspberries and redcurrants, plus hints of black cherry preserves, charcoal, woodsmoke and underbrush with a waft of tapenade. The medium to full-bodied palate has a firm structure of ripe, rounded tannins and just enough freshness to support the generous black fruits, finishing long and earthy.

92-94 Punkte von Jeb Dunnuck für den Chateau Lassegue 2020 Saint Emilion Grand CruJeb Dunnuck im Mai 2021:

The 2020 Château Lassegue is another brilliant Saint-Emilion in the making. Offering a full-bodied, rich, textured, and at the same time pure and precise style on the palate, it has classic notes of ripe black cherries, charcoal, crushed stone, and truffly earth. Emerging from the home estate of Pierre Seillan, who’s the force behind the Verite wines in Sonoma, this beautiful 2020 is going to require just 2-4 years of bottle age yet keep for 15+.

A brilliant success for this property in the ascendant, the 2020 Berliquet opens in the glass with aromas of dark berries and cherries mingled with hints of warm spices and violets. Another brilliant Saint-Emilion in the vintage, the 2020 Château Berliquet is mostly Merlot yet includes close to a third Cabernet Franc, which no doubt contributes to its elegant, finesse-driven, floral character. It's incredibly pure and classy, with notes of red and blue fruits, sappy spring flowers, graphite, and baking spices all emerging on the nose. These carry to a medium-bodied, ultra-fine, pure, seamless 2020 that offers pleasure today and will offer pleasure in 15+ years as well. This wine is never the biggest or richest in a vintage, but it shines for its purity, balance, and elegance. It's beautifully done.

92 The 2020 Trotte Vieille opens in the glass with aromas of sweet dark berries, violets and licorice framed by a generous application of creamy new oak. Medium to full-bodied, rich and concentrated, with impressive depth at the core, it's nicely balanced but a little wrapped up in firm, seemingly barrel-derived tannins. Improvements are underway in the vineyards, but for now, the élevage would appear to be this estate's weak link.

98 Punkte von Jeb Dunnuck für den Chateau Trotte Vieille 2020 Saint Emilion Den Chateau Trotte Vieille 2020 Saint Emilion beschreibt Jeb Dunnuck wie folgt:
98 The 2020 Château Trotte Vieille has closed down since I tasted it as a barrel sample in 2021 and needs lots of air, but this is an incredibly gorgeous wine. Its dense purple hue is followed by powerful, inward bouquet of ripe, incredibly pure black and blue fruits, smoky oak, tons of minerality, and a kiss of violets that takes lots of air to shine. The palate is similar in style, with a concentrated, focused, almost austere edge that carries beautiful tannins, awesome extract, flawless overall balance, and a great finish. While it's unquestionably a brilliant wine, it's not for those looking for instant gratification and is much more reserved than the 2019 at this stage. Hide bottles for 7-8 years, and it should have 25 to 30 years of overall longevity.

98-99 Sucklingpunkte für den Chateau Trotte Vieille 2020 Saint Emilion, Trottevieille 2020James Suckling zum Chateau Trotte Vieille 2020 Saint Emilion:
Fantastic texture and structure to this wine with firm, silky tannins that go on and on. Love the crushed blackberries, blueberries and salt. Floral and mineral character, too. Full and tight with great length. Chewy at the very end, indicating real structure. All about structure and length. 50% cabernet franc, 49% merlot, and 1% cabernet sauvignon.

92-94 Punkte vom Vinous-Team für den Chateau Trotte Vieille 2020 Saint Emilion, Trottevieille 2020NEAL MARTIN zum Chateau Trotte Vieille 2020 Saint Emilion:
The 2020 TrotteVieille is quite broody and backward on the nose at first, demanding 15–20 minutes to open. It then reveals blackberry, sea spray/marine scents and hints of crushed chalk and pencil box. The palate is medium-bodied with quite a firm structure, indicating that this is a Saint-Émilion that should be cellared for several years. There is a lovely touch of white pepper and allspice toward the finish. I suspect this is a TrotteVieille that will reward the patient.

92-94 Punkte vom Vinous-Team für den Chateau Trotte Vieille 2020 Saint Emilion, Trottevieille 2020GALLONI zum zum Chateau Trotte Vieille 2020 Saint Emilion:
The 2020 Trotte Vieille is laced with inky, jammy dark fruit, licorice and bittersweet chocolate. This heady, potent Saint-Émilion is not exactly subtle, but it does offer tons of intensity in an opulent, heady style. The only thing missing is a bit of midpalate pliancy and overall persistence.

Another killer wine in the vintage is the 2020 Château Côte De Baleau, which comes from a cooler, north-facing vineyard on the eastern side of the appellation. Almost all Merlot, it offers a medium to full-bodied, mouth-filling, layered style that carries plenty of ripe tannins, terrific mid-palate depth, and textbook Right Bank Merlot notes of red and black cherries, leather, dried flowers, and chalky minerality. It picks up more and more minerality with time in the glass and is a bonafide mineral bomb. Give it just a few years in the cellar and enjoy it over the coming 15-20 years.

Coming from dismal yields of 12.5 hectoliters per hectare, the 2020 Château Haut-Brisson is shockingly good and another brilliant Right Bank that's going to represent a tremendous value. A blend of 90% Merlot and 10% Cabernet Franc brought up in just 35% new French oak, it has a sensational perfume of red and black cherries, leafy tobacco, chocolate, lead pencil shavings, and liquid violet-like nuances. Full-bodied, concentrated, and flawlessly balanced, it has ultra-fine tannins, remarkable purity, and a great finish. This wine comes from an 18-hectare vineyard that was purchased by Peter Kwok in 1997, only to be sold in 2020 to Bordeaux native Stéphane Schinazi. The soils here are a mix of fine gravel and granular, quartz-rich silt atop a deep clay subsoil. The farming has been certified organic since 2010, vinification spans just over three weeks in stainless steel, and the wine sees malolactic fermentation in tank and four months on lees before being moved into 35% new French oak, 35% second-fill, and the balance in third-fill barrels.

The 2020 Badette is a blend of 75% Merlot, 20% Cabernet Franc and 5% Petit Verdot, aging for approximately 18 months in French oak barrels, 100% new. The alcohol is 15%. Opaque purple-black colored, the 2020 Badette erupts from the glass with bombastic notes of baked blackberries, plum preserves and kirsch, followed by hints of cedar chest, Chinese five spice, tar and licorice, plus a touch of eucalyptus. The full-bodied palate is full-on rich and decadent, featuring layers of black fruit preserves and exotic spices with a firm, grainy texture and plenty of freshness to support, finishing long and opulent.

91-93 Punkte vom Vinous-Team für den Chateau Badette 2020Das meint die Vinous-Mannschaft um Antonio Galloni zum Chateau Badette:
The 2020 Badette a property owned by Belgian Marc Vandenbogaerde, offers plenty of intense brambly red berry fruit on the nose laced with rose petal and violet - lots of chutzpah here. The palate is medium-bodied with sappy red and black fruit, slightly powdery tannins with good depth and harmony. Gentle grip on the finish with fine persistence, this Saint-Émilion Grand Cru has a lot of potential and well worth seeking out.

The 2020 Tour Saint Christophe opens in the glass with aromas of sweet cherries, raspberries and petals, followed by a medium to full-bodied, lively and pure palate that's rich and fleshy, with generously extracted tannins asserting themselves on the finish. It's a modern, crowd-pleasing wine from clay-rich soils opposite Troplong Mondot in the commune Saint Christophe des Bardes.

96 Punkte bei Jeb Dunnuck für den Château Tour Saint Christophe 2020Jeb Dunnuck im März 2023:
The 2020 Château Tour Saint Christophe showed spectacularly well, and based off past vintages, this shouldn't surprise anyone. Based on 80% Merlot and 20% Cabernet Franc raised in 40% new barrels (the balance is in second- and third-fill oak), it offers a full-bodied, incredibly pure, balanced style revealing subtle oak, terrific darker, almost blue fruits, lots of chocolate, leafy herb and mineral nuances, and gorgeous tannins. It's worth pointing out that this will be the last vintage made by the talented Jérôme Aguirre. This terrific Saint-Emilion will evolve for two decades.

The 2020 Fonplégade has an intriguing bouquet that oddly made me think of Burgundy! Plush red berry fruit, vanilla, blueberry jam and touches of sous-bois burst from the glass, hints of blood orange and marmalade lingering in the background. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins, quite effervescent thanks to the keen line of acidity, and a little zesty toward the finish. This brims with nascent vigor and should drink well once in bottle, perhaps one that might offer much in its youth.

From an estate that has been on an incredible run of late, largely due to the talents of director David Suire, the 2020 Château Laroque shows the cooler, limestone-driven style of the terroir beautifully and has a clean, focused style in its darker (almost blue) berry fruits as well as chalky minerality, violets, spice, and floral nuances. Medium-bodied on the palate, this focused, straight, remarkably pure Saint-Emilion has terrific mid-palate depth and a great finish. It needs to be hidden in the cellar for a solid 4-5 years if possible and is going to have 30 years of longevity. If drinking any time soon, give it an hour in a decanter.

Another head-turning vintage from this château, the 2020 Château Sansonnet is based on 95% Merlot, 3% Cabernet Sauvignon, and the rest Cabernet Franc, from yields of 36 hectoliters per hectare, that was raised in 80% new barrels. Possessing incredible purity in its black raspberry and cassis fruit as well as notes of white flowers, camphor, and spicy oak, it hits the palate with medium to full-bodied richness, polished, ultra-fine tannins, flawless balance, and a great, great finish. This estate, under the guidance of Marie and Christophe Lefévère, has had a shocking string of truly incredible vintages, and given that these continue to be undervalued in the market, it's the wine lovers and wine drinkers out there who benefit. The 2020 La Serre has (yet another) gorgeous, sensual and very pure bouquet of dark cherries, hints of cassis and wilted violet scents, the new oak seamlessly integrated. It reminds me of the 2018. The palate is medium-bodied with succulent black cherries and blueberry and saturated tannins counterpoised by a fine bead of acidity. It turns quite citric toward the end, and although it might not quite deliver the persistence of the 2018, this is another fine La Serre that should give 12–15 years of drinking pleasure.
