Bordeaux

Weinregion Bordeaux:

90-93 Punkte Vinous Les Hauts de Smith Blanc 2017 Pessac LeognanAntonio Galloni:

The 2017 Les Hauts de Smith Blanc, 100% Sauvignon Blanc, is bright and precise, with the extra bit of textural depth that is typical of the vintage. Lemon, grapefruit, mint, white flowers and salt give this tense, crystalline white much of its personality. The 2017 is very nicely done.

93-94 Punkte James Suckling für den Les Hauts de Smith 2017James Suckling im April 2018:

This is really pure and bright with beautiful sauvignon blanc character of sliced lemons, limes and hints of grass. Medium to full body and fresh acidity. Crisp and exciting.

90-92 Parker Punkte für Les Hauts de Smith Blanc 2017 Pessac LeognanLisa Perrotti Brown April 2018:

The 2017 Les Hauts de Smith Blanc is 100% Sauvignon Blanc and offers up intense notions of lemon curd, white peaches and grapefruit with touches of mandarin peel, jasmine and lime zest. The palate is medium-bodied and incredibly elegant yet super zippy in the mouth, with a lively line cutting through the intense citrus flavors, finishing long and zesty.

Chateau Saintayme 2015 Saint Emilion Grand Cru

A juicy and delicious red with red tile, plums and cherries. Full body, round tannins and a long and juicy finish. Absurdly good for the price. Love it. Drink now or hold. Better in 2020.

The 2015 Saintayme has become perhaps the most opulent 2015 from Denis Durantou, with copious blackberry and raspberry coulis scents intermingling with vanilla and a touch of violet. The palate is medium-bodied with crunchy tannin, finely structured with great depth. It maybe does not quite have the persistence of the Les Cruzelles and La Chenade, but I strongly suspect that it will repay a couple of years in bottle. Maybe this has something up its sleeve? It will be fascinating to plot this Saint-Émilion’s progress.

A tight and racy red with walnut skin, pecan nuts, chili and spice. Blackberry. Full body, round texture. Chewy. Very promising. Like the great Le Gays from the 1980s.

94-96 Parker Punkte für den Chateau Le Gay 2015 aus Pomerol Neal Martin bewertet den Chateau Le Gay im April 2016:

The 2015 Le Gay comes from the 6.5-hectare Pomerol estate, of which 2.09 hectares are currently being restructured. It is a blend of 90% Merlot and 10% Cabernet Franc picked from 27 September until 8 October at one degree lower alcohol than Montviel; it has a fragrant bouquet with delineated red cherries, crushed strawberry and hints of vanilla from the 100% new oak. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannin, ripe and rounded in the mouth, very well balanced and very smooth. This just glides across the mouth and once that new oak has been absorbed, this will be a gorgeous Le Gay to behold. Do not overlook this Cru because it has been on a roll in recent years.

18 Punkte beim Weinwisser für den Chateau Le Gay 2015 aus Pomerol Rene Gabriel bewertet den Chateau Le Gay 2015 wie folgt:

90 % Merlot, 10 % Cabernet Franc.

The 2016 Bad Boy (aka naughty Jean-Luc Thunevin) is a blend 5% Cabernet Sauvignon and the remainder Merlot. It has a fragrant, quite floral bouquet this year with scents of black cherries, incense and a touch of vanilla pod. The palate is medium-bodied with firm tannin, fresh in the mouth with a citrus line of acidity, slightly granular in texture towards the finish that has good, Médoc-like structure. This is a fine follow-up to the 2015 Bad Boy.

93 Sucklingpunkte für den Bad Boy 2016 Bordeaux by Jean Luc ThunevinVerkostungsbericht vom 03. Februar 2019:

The 2016 d'Aiguilhe is absolutely delicious. Succulent, nuanced and inviting, the 2016 has so much to offer. Ripe cherry, plum, French oak, mocha, new leather and spice all flesh out effortlessly. Deep, generous and resonant, the 2016 captures all the best the vintage has to offer. Sweet, silky tannins add to the wine's considerable appeal. It would be nice to see a bit less overtness to the oak. The wine really does not need it. In 2016, d'Aiguilhe is very pretty. Tasted two times.

92 Punkte vom Wine Spectator für den Chateau d Aiguilhe 2016 Cotes de CastillonJames Mothels im Februar 2019:

Juicy loganberry and black currant fruit forms an inviting core, while light bay, tobacco and violet notes fill in around the fruit. Offers a fleshy edge but keeps an emphasis on cut and drive through the finish. Drink now through 2028. 18,375 cases made.

The 2016 Clos Puy Arnaud is a fabulous wine. Rich, boisterous and full of fruit, the 2016 is simply gorgeous. Bright red raspberry, blood orange, mint and wild flowers all race out of this sumptuous, silky, exceptionally beautiful Côtes de Castillon. All of the elements meld together in a sumptuous, super-expressive wine that hits all the right notes. Clos Puy Arnaud is one of the classiest wines of the vintage. Don't miss it.

Chateau Dalem 2016 mit 92+ Parker Punkten Lisa Perrotti Brown 30. November 2018

Deep garnet-purple colored, the 2016 Dalem (blended of 90% Merlot and 10% Cabernet Franc) leaps from the glass with notions of warm black cherries, chocolate mint and baked black plums plus hints of star anise, garrigue and cedar chest. Full-bodied yet possessing fantastic freshness and harmony on the palate, it has wonderfully vibrant fruit and a ripe, grainy frame, finishing with a compelling lift.

93 Punkte Vinous / Galloni für den Chateau Dalem 2016 Fronsac Antonio Galloni bewertet den Dalem im Januar 2019 wie folgt:

The 2016 Dalem is a flamboyant, unctuous wine. Super-ripe black cherry, chocolate, blackberry, grilled herbs, menthol, licorice and incense all run though this opulent, unapologetically full-throttle Fronsac. Dalem is one of the most overt, voluptuous wines of the year. I find it utterly irresistible. Tasted two times.

A firm and chewy red with dark-berry, chocolate and walnut character with some salty, mineral undertones. Full body. Dense and driven for the vintage. A blend of 90 per cent merlot and ten per cent cabernet franc.

91 Punkte vom Vinous-Team für den La Dauphine 2016Antonio Galloni Januar 2019:

The 2016 La Dauphine is fabulous. Exotic, super-ripe and flamboyant to the core, the 2016 possesses tremendous depth and tons of personality. Blackberry jam, plum, chocolate, espresso, spice and licorice give the 2016 its distinctly dark personality. The extracted style brings out darker shades of fruit and heavy torrefaction notes at the expense of fruit brightness and freshness, which is a stylistic choice. I would prefer to drink the 2016 over the next few years.

90 Punkte vom Wine Advocate für den La Dauphine 2016Lisa Perrotti Brown im November 2018:

Medium to deep garnet-purple colored, the 2016 de la Dauphine reveals notes of baked black cherries, dried mulberries, spice cake and tobacco with a core of blackberry compote and mincemeat pie plus a touch of dark chocolate. Medium to full-bodied, the palate delivers loads of savory accents to complement the ripe black fruits, framed by rounded tannins and finishing on an herbal note.

The 2016 Cantenac Brown is a super-concentrated, potent Margaux. Raspberry jam, mocha, licorice, plum, new oak and spice are all lavishly rendered. Broad and sweeping on the palate, with tremendous richness and resonance, Cantenac Brown is one of the bigger, more overt Margauxs of the vintage. Readers should expect a big, ripe wine. In several tastings, the 2016 has come across as a bit over the top, at least for my personal taste. Technical Director Jose Sanfins gave the 2016 16 months in oak, 60% new.

93 Punkte vom Vinous-Team für den Cantenac Brown 2016Vinous / Neal Martin Januar 2019:

The 2016 Brane-Cantenac has been on a roll of late, under the watchful eye of Henri Lurton. This latest bottled vintage is superb. The divine, pure blackberry and bilberry bouquet develops touches of graphite in the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannin, silky-smooth texture and a superb bead of acidity. This is not a powerful Brane-Cantenac, and it is perhaps less austere than I suspected en primeur, but it should drink beautifully over the next three decades. If you have a penchant for traditional claret, it really doesn’t come better than this.

93 Punkte vom Vinous-Team für den Brane Cantenac 2016Antonio Galloni Januar 2019:

The 2016 Brane-Cantenac is very pretty and nuanced. The richness of the year comes through, and yet there is a good bit of freshness and energy as well to balance things out nicely. Brane-Cantenac offers a fine expression of the year in a wine that will drink well with minimal cellaring. Time in the glass brings out an attractive register of floral notes that add to the wine's undeniable appeal.

The aromas of spices, such as nutmeg and dried coriander, are very impressive. Black currants, too. Full-bodied with tannins that are fine-grained and very polished. Pretty finish that brings you back for more. Try in 2024.

92 Punkte vom Wine Advocate für den Chateau Phelan Segur 2016 Saint EstepheLisa Perrotti Brown im November 2018:

Deep garnet-purple in color, the 2016 Phélan Ségur gives elegant red and black currants, kirsch and black berries with violets and chocolate box scents plus a waft of cigars. The palate is medium-bodied, elegant, fine grained and fresh with great vibrancy and mineral notes on the finish.

94 Punkte vom Vinous-Team für den Chateau Phelan Segur 2016 Saint EstepheAntonio Galloni Januar 2019:

The 2016 Cantenac Brown is a super-concentrated, potent Margaux. Raspberry jam, mocha, licorice, plum, new oak and spice are all lavishly rendered. Broad and sweeping on the palate, with tremendous richness and resonance, Cantenac Brown is one of the bigger, more overt Margauxs of the vintage. Readers should expect a big, ripe wine. In several tastings, the 2016 has come across as a bit over the top, at least for my personal taste. Technical Director Jose Sanfins gave the 2016 16 months in oak, 60% new.

James Suckling Januar 2019:

92 Punkte vom Vinous-Team für den Chateau Phelan Segur 2016 Saint EstepheVinous / Neal Martin Januar 2019:

he 2016 Phélan-Ségur has a refined bouquet of earthy black fruit, black truffle and smoke, perhaps just needing a little more vigor. The palate is medium-bodied, with quite grainy tannin, and a little rigid at the moment. The linear, conservative, pencil-lead-infused finish needs more flesh to develop with bottle age. Not bad, but I think the 2015 is better. It feels as if it doesn’t want to go the extra mile like others in Saint-Estèphe.

95 Sucklingpunkte für den Chateau Phelan Segur 2016 Saint EstepheVerkostungsbericht vom 03. Februar 2019:

A very serious St.-Estèphe with excellent concentration, firm tannins and a dark soul. I love the earth, walnut, bark and smoke aromas that pour out of this. Very long, dramatic, dry finish. Better from 2021.

The 2016 Sérilhan has a wonderful, quite high-toned and generous bouquet with ample blackberry and raspberry scents laced with violet and hints of iodine. The palate is medium-bodied with gentle grip in the mouth, quite symmetrical and focused with impressive precision on the finish. This feels dialed back in terms of power to the benefit of this elegant Saint-Estèphe. Tasted at the Cru Bourgeois tasting in London.

99 Parker Punkte für den Chateau Montrose 2016Lisa Perrotti Brown 30. November 2018

Deep garnet-purple in color, the 2016 Montrose is a little youthfully shy to begin, but with coaxing, it unfurls to reveal the most beguiling scents of wilted roses, oolong tea, crushed rocks, wild sage, star anise and candied violets over a wonderfully pristine, well-defined core of crushed blackcurrants, black raspberries and kirsch plus wafts of pencil lead and wood smoke. The taut, muscular, medium to full-bodied palate straddles jaw-dropping intensity and finesse superbly, featuring a solid backbone of ripe tannins and giving a firm frame right through the incredibly long, exquisitely nuanced finish.

The 2016 Montrose has a tightly wound bouquet that is extremely well focused. This is one of the most pixelated aromatics I can remember on a Montrose at this stage, featuring blackberry, boysenberry and cedar and real mineralité underneath. The palate is medium-bodied with fine density and wonderful salinity. There is tremendous precision with razor-sharp tannin, and a brightness on the finish that is exceptional. This is a Montrose that will comfortably sit alongside the canon of great vintages from this Saint-Estèphe estate. As my score implies, it’s up there with the first growths. Stunning.

98 Punkte Vinous / Galloni für den Chateau Montrose 2016 Saint EstepheAntonio Galloni bewertet den Chateau Montrose im Januar 2019 wie folgt:

The 2016 Montrose is every bit as impressive as it was from barrel, maybe more. Tightly wound and vertical, with remarkable intensity, the 2016 is simply magnificent. The tannins are there, but they are nearly buried by the sheer intensity of the fruit. All the elements are impeccably balanced in a wine of pedigree, depth and character. The 2016 is going to need a number of years to be at its best, but it is clearly a very special wine in the making. In a word: dazzling.

98 Sucklingpunkte für den Chateau Montrose 2016 Saint EstepheJames Suckling im Februar 2019:

The floral and fresh aromas to this are mesmerizing. Roses and lilacs galore. The pure cab aromas coming from the glass – blackcurrants and blackberries – are so memorable. Full-bodied, deep and profound. The ultra-fine tannins on the palate are so polished and fine-grained. The finish goes on for minutes with subtle yet superb fruit. It’s all about precision and form here. A modern classic for Montrose. Better after 2026.

93 Parker Punkten für den Chateau Pedesclaux 2016Lisa Perrotti Brown 30. November 2018

The 2016 Pedesclaux is composed of 48% Cabernet Sauvignon, 45% Merlot, 4% Petit Verdot and 3% Cabernet Franc. It aged for 18 months in 60% new and 40% one-year-old French oak. It has a deep garnet-purple color and nose of crushed red and black currants and blackberries with cigar box, new leather, pencil lead and crushed rocks. The palate is medium-bodied, elegant, fresh and lively with loads of mineral nuances and a lovely earthy finish. Around 15,000 cases produced.

94 Punkte vom Vinous-Team für den Chateau Pedesclaux 2016Neal Martin im Januar 2019:

The 2016 Pédesclaux is the first vintage to include all four grape varieties planted in the vineyard, according to Emmanuel Cruse. It has a very focused, concentrated bouquet of blackberry, graphite, hints of tobacco and a slight granitic scent - très Pauillac. The palate is medium-bodied with silky tannin, impressive depth, gentle grip and a killer line of acidity. I adore the harmony and precision of this Pédesclaux, which is probably the best to date. Highly recommended. 13.3% alcohol.

93 Punkte vom Vinous-Team für den Chateau Pedesclaux 2016Antonio Galloni im Januar 2019:

The 2016 Pédesclaux has turned out beautifully. Dark cherry, plum, mocha, leather, chocolate, rose petal and dried herbs are all generous in this plump, juicy Pauillac. Medium in body, expressive and racy, Pédesclaux is a super appealing, modern Pauillac with soft curves and tons of immediacy.

95 Sucklingpunkte für den Chateau Pedesclaux 2016 PaulliacVerkostungsbericht vom 03. Februar 2019:

So aromatic with crushed currants, raspberries and blackberries with hints of graphite and lead pencil. Full-bodied and very tight with beautiful tannins and a long, flavorful finish. The tannins really build at the end of the palate. Try from 2024.

Also wirklich keine schlechten Nachbarn.

93 Punkte vom Wine Advocate für den Chateau d Armailhac 2016 PauillacLisa Perrotti Brown im November 2018:

Deep garnet-purple colored, the 2016 D'Armailhac opens with gregarious crème de cassis, blackberry pie and mulberries scents with hints of chocolate box, roses and charcoal with a waft of dried sage. Medium-bodied, the palate has a rock-solid frame of firm, grainy tannins and wonderful freshness, finishing long and earthy.

The 2016 d’Armailhac, which was bottled in May 2018, has an elegant bouquet that unfolds in the glass, offering blackberries, briar and a touch of cedar and mint. The palate is medium-bodied with dense tannin, grippy in the mouth, and quite voluminous, with perhaps more density on the solid, almost broad-shouldered finish compared to the Clerc-Milon. This fulfills all my expectations from my barrel tasting and is quite simply one of the best d’Armailhac wines ever made.

92 Punkte vom Vinous-Team für den Chateau d Armailhac 2016Antonio Galloni im Januar 2019:

The 2016 d'Armailhac is powerful and dense, just as it was from barrel. Readers will have to give the 2016 at least a few years in bottle, as the tannins are imposing. Dark red plum, licorice, spice, iron, game and scorched earth all give d'Armailhac its distinctive savory flavor profile that is quite appealing. Time in the glass brings out additional layers of nuance that complete the wine nicely.

Februar 2019:

This is a really driven d’Armailhac showing blackcurrants and fruit tea with hints of bark on the nose and palate. Full-bodied, very firm and structured with a long and powerful finish. Direct and linear. Try after 2023.

Chateau Pontet Canet 2016 mit 98 Parker Punkten bewertetLisa Perrotti Brown 30. November 2018

The blend of the 2016 Pontet-Canet is 65% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot, 3% Cabernet Franc and 2% Petit Verdot. Around 55% of the wine was aged in new French oak barrels, 15% in two-year-old barrels and 35% in cement amphorae for 16 months. Deep garnet-purple colored, it opens with opulent scents of plum preserves, spice cake, hoisin and crème de cassis with fragrant wafts of potpourri, wood smoke and rose hip tea. Medium to full-bodied, rich and decadent, with loads of spicy layers, it has a firm, velvety texture with great freshness and incredible depth, finishing very long and on a compelling mineral note.

2016 marks the 40th vintage at Pontet-Canet for Alfred Tesseron. Winemaker Jean-Michel Comme mentioned it was wet at the beginning of the year, but thankfully the weather changed in late June. Thus, 2016 was a more normal/typical mildew year, so the disease pressure wasn’t too much of an issue. Then it was very dry until fall. He believes the vintage could be compared to 1961 or 2010. The result is an uninhibited, truly singular showing of Pontet-Canet this year—perhaps the richest, most sumptuous and hedonic expression of the vintage of all the great Left Bank wines.

99 Punkte Vinous / Galloni für den Chateau Pontet Canet 2016 PauillacAntonio Galloni bewertet den Chateau Pontet Canet 2016 im Januar 2019 wie folgt:

The 2016 Pontet-Canet is absolutely breathtaking. Powerful, ample and racy in the glass, the 2016 is one of the most exquisitely well-balanced young Pontet-Canets I can remember tasting. Savory, high-toned aromatics and brisk mineral notes lend energy and delineation as this vivid wonderfully alive wine opens up in the glass. The flavors are dark and incisive, but it is the wine's total sense of harmony that is most compelling. All of the elements are simply in the right place. The 2016 is tremendous. It's as simple as that. As is often the case, Pontet-Canet is one of the most singular wines in Bordeaux. Alfred Tesseron could have chosen to play things safe when he took over the management of the estate in the mid-1990s. Instead, he chose a very different path. No proprietor in Bordeaux has taken more risks over the last two decades than Alfred Tesseron. A commitment to biodynamic farming, sustainability across the entire estate more broadly, and the adoption of new concepts for Bordeaux, such as aging a portion of the wine in terra cotta, set Pontet-Canet apart from other properties in Pauillac and the Left Bank. Not surprisingly, the wine is also starkly different from the wines of neighboring estates.

97 Sucklingpunkte für den Chateau Pontet Canet 2016 PauillacVerkostungsbericht vom 03. Februar 2019:

The aromas of ripe blackcurrants, iodine, sweet tobacco and fresh flowers are spellbinding. Full-bodied with mouth-expanding, massive and natural tannins. Impressive fruit with hints of prunes. The finish is long and powerful. Needs six to seven years to soften and come together. Try from 2025.

97+ Parker Punkte für den Chateau Lynch Bages 2016 PauillacLisa Perrotti Brown am 30.11.2018

Deep garnet-purple colored, the 2016 Lynch Bages comes charging out of the gate with pronounced cassis, chocolate-covered cherries, mulberries and menthol notions, backed up by scents of garrigue, tilled soil and a waft of tapenade. Medium to full-bodied, rich and fantastically concentrated, the generous fruit is superbly framed by firm, ripe, grainy tannins with tons of pepper, cinnamon and cloves layers coming through on the finish. Truly, a legendary Lynch Bages!

97 Punkte vom Vinous-Team für den Chateau Lynch Bages 2016Neal Martin bewertet den Chateau Lynch Bages im Januar 2019 wie folgt:

The 2016 Lynch-Bages delivers on its promise from barrel with an intense blackberry, cedar and mineral-driven bouquet that actually reminds me of Lafite-Rothschild. A faint dark chocolate scent makes a brief appearance. The palate is medium-bodied with succulent ripe tannin, pure black fruit and a velvety texture. There is wonderful structure and focus on the finish, followed by a persistent saline aftertaste. This is an outstanding Lynch-Bages, easily the best since the twin titans of 1989 and 1990.

Chateau Lynch Bages 2016 PauillacAntonio Galloni bewertet den Chateau Lynch Bages im Januar 2019 wie folgt:

A stellar wine, the 2016 Lynch-Bages is dark and explosive in the glass. Beams of tannin and bright acids give the 2016 its sense of drive and tension. From bottle, the 2016 is quite a bit more powerful than it was from barrel. Dark flavors and potent tannins give the 2016 a distinctly brooding, somber feel. Sage, lavender, menthol, licorice and wild cherry are all laced into the potent, dramatically sweeping finish. Readers should not be in a rush, as the 2016 is going to need a number of years to be at its best. Even so, it is super-impressive today.

97 Sucklingpunkte für den Chateau Lynch Bages 2016 PauillacVerkostungsbericht vom 03. Februar 2019:

Very rich and exotic with blackberry, black-tea, graphite and lead-pencil aromas. Full-bodied, dense and structured with lots of ripe tannins and a long, flavorful finish of currants and forest floor, combined with fresh mushrooms and bark. Needs four to five years to show its true potential. Try after 2024.

94 Punkte vom Vinous-Team für den Le Petit Mouton 2016Antonio Galloni Januar 2019:

The 2016 Le Petit-Mouton is a wine of total precision and class. Bright floral notes lift the red berry fruit beautifully. Medium in body, with incredible persistence and exceptional poise, the 2016 Petit Mouton is sublime. Blood orange, mint and chalky notes add further nuances of freshness throughout. The 2016 is all class.

93 Punkte vom Wine Advocate für den Petit Mouton 2016Lisa Perrotti Brown im November 2018:

The 2016 Le Petit Mouton is a blend of 62% Cabernet Sauvignon, 35% Merlot and 3% Cabernet Franc. It has a deep garnet-purple color and gives up an intensely plummy nose with cigar box and fallen leaves scents leading to aroma layers of kirsch, red and black currants and tilled soil. Medium-bodied with a racy line of freshness cutting through the muscular fruit and a good, firm frame of grainy tannins to support, it finishes on a lingering menthol note.

93 Punkte vom Vinous-Team für den Le Petit Mouton 2016Vinous / Neal Martin Januar 2019:

The 2016 Le Petit-Mouton has a classic blackberry, graphite and smoke bouquet that perhaps feels a little stricter than it did out of barrel. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannin, very pure black fruit and a precise, quite minerally finish that is pure class. This might be the best Le Petit Mouton since it debuted in 1993

95 Sucklingpunkte für den Le Petit Mouton de Mouton Rothschild 2016 PauillacVerkostungsbericht vom 03. Februar 2019:

Deep and dark berry aromas with a center of cedar and tobacco. Full-bodied, tannic and rich with a solid backbone and excellent structure. Plenty of fruit and flavor. It goes on for minutes. One hell of a second wine for Mouton. Try after 2025.
