Bordeaux

Weinregion Bordeaux:

The 2016 Bibian has a tightly-wound bouquet that demands more coaxing than its peers, eventually revealing pure blackberries, raspberry, cedar and light mint aromas. The oak here is nicely integrated. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannin, very pure and polished with some classy new oak assiduously blended. This is a classy offering and one of the best Cru Bourgeois that I have tasted this vintage. Tasted at the Cru Bourgeois tasting in London.

91-92 Sucklingpunkte für den Chateau Bibian 2016Als Fassmuster von James Suckling wie folgt beschrieben:

Tangy and bright with vivid acidity and lots of dark-berry and citrus character plus a hint of smoke. Medium body and a long finish. Another winner after 2015.

92 Punkte vom Vinous-Team für den Les Hauts de Smith Blanc 2017 Pessac LeognanAntonio Galloni im März 2020:

The 2017 Les Hauts de Smith Blanc offers a striking combination of richness and bright Sauvignon Blanc aromatics. Lemon peel, grapefruit, mint and white flowers are some of the notes that come together in the glass. The 2017 has really gained in weight and volume since I last tasted it. Today, it has phenolic quality that makes it feel structurally almost like a red wine. A range of floral and citrus overtones linger of the close. The 2017 is distinctive, classy and full of personality.

93-94 Punkte James Suckling für den Les Hauts de Smith 2017James Suckling im April 2018:

This is really pure and bright with beautiful sauvignon blanc character of sliced lemons, limes and hints of grass. Medium to full body and fresh acidity. Crisp and exciting.

90-92 Parker Punkte für Les Hauts de Smith Blanc 2017 Pessac LeognanLisa Perrotti Brown April 2018:

The 2017 Les Hauts de Smith Blanc is 100% Sauvignon Blanc and offers up intense notions of lemon curd, white peaches and grapefruit with touches of mandarin peel, jasmine and lime zest. The palate is medium-bodied and incredibly elegant yet super zippy in the mouth, with a lively line cutting through the intense citrus flavors, finishing long and zesty.

95-96 Suckling Punkte für den Chateau Le Gay 2015James Suckling bewertet den Chateau Le Gay 2015 wie folgt:

A tight and racy red with walnut skin, pecan nuts, chili and spice. Blackberry. Full body, round texture. Chewy. Very promising. Like the great Le Gays from the 1980s.

94-96 Parker Punkte für den Chateau Le Gay 2015 aus Pomerol Neal Martin bewertet den Chateau Le Gay im April 2016:

The 2015 Le Gay comes from the 6.5-hectare Pomerol estate, of which 2.09 hectares are currently being restructured. It is a blend of 90% Merlot and 10% Cabernet Franc picked from 27 September until 8 October at one degree lower alcohol than Montviel; it has a fragrant bouquet with delineated red cherries, crushed strawberry and hints of vanilla from the 100% new oak. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannin, ripe and rounded in the mouth, very well balanced and very smooth. This just glides across the mouth and once that new oak has been absorbed, this will be a gorgeous Le Gay to behold. Do not overlook this Cru because it has been on a roll in recent years.

18 Punkte beim Weinwisser für den Chateau Le Gay 2015 aus Pomerol Rene Gabriel bewertet den Chateau Le Gay 2015 wie folgt:

90 % Merlot, 10 % Cabernet Franc.

The 2016 Bad Boy (aka naughty Jean-Luc Thunevin) is a blend 5% Cabernet Sauvignon and the remainder Merlot. It has a fragrant, quite floral bouquet this year with scents of black cherries, incense and a touch of vanilla pod. The palate is medium-bodied with firm tannin, fresh in the mouth with a citrus line of acidity, slightly granular in texture towards the finish that has good, Médoc-like structure. This is a fine follow-up to the 2015 Bad Boy.

92 Punkte vom Vinous-Team für denAntonio Galloni Januar 2019:

The 2016 d'Aiguilhe is absolutely delicious. Succulent, nuanced and inviting, the 2016 has so much to offer. Ripe cherry, plum, French oak, mocha, new leather and spice all flesh out effortlessly. Deep, generous and resonant, the 2016 captures all the best the vintage has to offer. Sweet, silky tannins add to the wine's considerable appeal. It would be nice to see a bit less overtness to the oak. The wine really does not need it. In 2016, d'Aiguilhe is very pretty. Tasted two times.

92 Punkte vom Wine Spectator für den Chateau d Aiguilhe 2016 Cotes de CastillonJames Mothels im Februar 2019:

Juicy loganberry and black currant fruit forms an inviting core, while light bay, tobacco and violet notes fill in around the fruit. Offers a fleshy edge but keeps an emphasis on cut and drive through the finish. Drink now through 2028. 18,375 cases made.

Chateau Dalem 2016 mit 92+ Parker Punkten Lisa Perrotti Brown 30. November 2018

Deep garnet-purple colored, the 2016 Dalem (blended of 90% Merlot and 10% Cabernet Franc) leaps from the glass with notions of warm black cherries, chocolate mint and baked black plums plus hints of star anise, garrigue and cedar chest. Full-bodied yet possessing fantastic freshness and harmony on the palate, it has wonderfully vibrant fruit and a ripe, grainy frame, finishing with a compelling lift.

93 Punkte Vinous / Galloni für den Chateau Dalem 2016 Fronsac Antonio Galloni bewertet den Dalem im Januar 2019 wie folgt:

The 2016 Dalem is a flamboyant, unctuous wine. Super-ripe black cherry, chocolate, blackberry, grilled herbs, menthol, licorice and incense all run though this opulent, unapologetically full-throttle Fronsac. Dalem is one of the most overt, voluptuous wines of the year. I find it utterly irresistible. Tasted two times.

92 Punkte vom Vinous-Team für denNeal Martin Tasting Note vom Januar 2020:

The 2017 Dalem is vinified without SO2 and sees 40% new oak. It has a clean and precise bouquet with perfumed blackberry and freshly picked mint aromas. The palate is medium-bodied with fine grain tannins. One of the most elegant Dalem wines that I have tasted in recent years with a clean and precise finish that is top drawer. This has kicked on since bottling and is turning into a very lovely Fronsac. Tasted twice with consistent notes.

91 Punkte vom Vinous-Team für den La Dauphine 2016Antonio Galloni Januar 2019:

The 2016 La Dauphine is fabulous. Exotic, super-ripe and flamboyant to the core, the 2016 possesses tremendous depth and tons of personality. Blackberry jam, plum, chocolate, espresso, spice and licorice give the 2016 its distinctly dark personality. The extracted style brings out darker shades of fruit and heavy torrefaction notes at the expense of fruit brightness and freshness, which is a stylistic choice. I would prefer to drink the 2016 over the next few years.

90 Punkte vom Wine Advocate für den La Dauphine 2016Lisa Perrotti Brown im November 2018:

Medium to deep garnet-purple colored, the 2016 de la Dauphine reveals notes of baked black cherries, dried mulberries, spice cake and tobacco with a core of blackberry compote and mincemeat pie plus a touch of dark chocolate. Medium to full-bodied, the palate delivers loads of savory accents to complement the ripe black fruits, framed by rounded tannins and finishing on an herbal note.

The purity of cabernet sauvignon really comes through here with currants, blackberries and stones. Perfumed, too. Medium to full body. Very fine, polished tannins and a fresh, fruity finish. This shows a compact palate with a polished, creamy finish. Much higher percentage of cabernet than is usual. Drink after 2023.

96 Punkte vom Vinous-Team für den Chateau Leoville Barton 2017 Saint JulienAntonio Galloni im März 2020:

Léoville-Barton is one of the very few wines, from any appellation, that combines power and finesse with such grace in 2017. Rich, deep and wonderfully expressive, the 2017 has so much offer. The high percentage of Cabernet Sauvignon comes through loud and clear. Inky dark, fruit, game, spice, mint, licorice and lavender all build in a wine of regal elegance and head spinning beauty. For its combination of quality and price, Léoville-Barton remains one the most consumer-friendly wines of the Left Bank. The blend is 93% Cabernet Sauvignon and 7% Merlot. The September rains were especially challenging for the Merlot and Cabernet Franc. As a result, Cabernet is pushed up in the blend, while there is no Franc at all.

Deep garnet-purple in color, it has a very serious, classic nose of warm cassis, cedar chest, pencil lead and fragrant earth with wafts of violets and dark chocolate. Medium-bodied, it has a solid backbone of firm, ripe, grainy tannins and a muscular mid-palate of tightly wound layers, delivering lovely purity and great length.

93 Punkte vom Vinous-Team für den Chateau Marquis d´Alesme 2017 MargauxAntonio Galloni im März 2020:

The 2017 Marquis d'Alesme is a powerful, dark Margaux. Black cherry, plum, crème de cassis, tobacco, leather, menthol, espresso and tobacco accents add to the wine's decidedly potent feel. Ample and creamy on the palate, the 2017 shows the important presence of Merlot in the blend, which among other things, gives a real sense of immediacy.

There’s strong drive here with rich aromas of dark berries and cassis, as well as blueberries. The palate has a bold build of quite fine, firm tannin that carries long, even and true. Drink or hold.

94 Sucklingpunkte für den Chateau Cantenac Brown 2016 MargauxVerkostungsberiht vom 03. Februar 2019:

This has a very delicious and attractive nose offering ample dark berries and plums with cocoa and freshly cut bracken. The palate has a smooth, fan-like array of fine but sturdy tannins that carry very fresh and upbeat into the finish. Try from 2023.

93 Punkte vom Vinous-Team für den Cantenac Brown 2016Vinous / Neal Martin Januar 2019:

The 2016 Cantenac Brown has an intense bouquet of blackberry and boysenberry fruit, pencil lead and sous-bois. There is gutsiness to these aromatics. The palate is medium-bodied with grippy tannin and a rounded texture. A little heavier than the Brane-Cantenac, displaying fine structure and persistency on the finish. Do not ignore this.

91 Punkte vom Vinous-Team für denAntonio Galloni Januar 2019:

The 2016 Cantenac Brown is a super-concentrated, potent Margaux. Raspberry jam, mocha, licorice, plum, new oak and spice are all lavishly rendered. Broad and sweeping on the palate, with tremendous richness and resonance, Cantenac Brown is one of the bigger, more overt Margauxs of the vintage. Readers should expect a big, ripe wine. In several tastings, the 2016 has come across as a bit over the top, at least for my personal taste. Technical Director Jose Sanfins gave the 2016 16 months in oak, 60% new.

96 Punkte vom Vinous-Team für den Brane Cantenac 2016 MargauxVinous / Neal Martin Januar 2019:

The 2016 Brane-Cantenac has been on a roll of late, under the watchful eye of Henri Lurton. This latest bottled vintage is superb. The divine, pure blackberry and bilberry bouquet develops touches of graphite in the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannin, silky-smooth texture and a superb bead of acidity. This is not a powerful Brane-Cantenac, and it is perhaps less austere than I suspected en primeur, but it should drink beautifully over the next three decades. If you have a penchant for traditional claret, it really doesn’t come better than this.

93 Punkte vom Vinous-Team für den Brane Cantenac 2016Antonio Galloni Januar 2019:

The 2016 Brane-Cantenac is very pretty and nuanced. The richness of the year comes through, and yet there is a good bit of freshness and energy as well to balance things out nicely. Brane-Cantenac offers a fine expression of the year in a wine that will drink well with minimal cellaring. Time in the glass brings out an attractive register of floral notes that add to the wine's undeniable appeal.

96 Sucklingpunkte für den Chateau Brane Cantenac 2016 MargauxVerkostungsbericht vom 03. Februar 2019:

So much ripe and sweet tobacco on the nose with currant and blackberry character. Full body, intense tannins with density and beauty. It’s a wine with great structure and panache for this estate. Try after 2024.

There’s a very balanced feel to this wine with ripe blueberries and red plums, as well as dried flowers. The palate has a supple, smooth build of rich, blueberry and cassis flavor and a long, fine-tannin finish. A blend of 62% cabernet sauvignon, 36% merlot and 2% petit verdot. Drink or hold.

94 Punkte vom Vinous-Team für den Chateau Rauzan Segla 2017 MargauxAntonio Galloni im März 2020:

The 2017 Rauzan-Ségla is coming together very nicely. Soft and silky, the 2017 is a wine of pure and total finesse. Sweet red cherry and plum fruit, tobacco, cedar and licorice add pretty top notes, but more than anything else, the 2017 impresses with its statuesque elegance and total balance; nothing in particular stands out. For that reason, Rauzan-Ségla is the sort of wine that is easy to overlook, and yet all the elements of a top notch Left-Bank wine are present. Tasted three times.

91 Punkte vom Vinous-Team für den Le Boscq 2016Neal Martin bewertet den Chateau Le Boscq 2016 im Januar 2019:

The 2016 Le Boscq has a tightly wound bouquet that gradually opens in the glass to reveal black cherries, a hint of sloe jam and crushed violets, all quite pure and attractive. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannin, a fine bead of acidity, a velvety-smooth texture and just a touch of vanilla coming through on the finish. This shows better than it did at the Cru Bourgeois tasting in September 2018.

The aromas of spices, such as nutmeg and dried coriander, are very impressive. Black currants, too. Full-bodied with tannins that are fine-grained and very polished. Pretty finish that brings you back for more. Try in 2024.

Some quite assertive, ripe dark berries here. The bold, quite rich palate is firm yet fresh with cassis and black-fruit flavors. Lighter, elegant vintage. Drink or hold.
