90-93 Punkte Vinous Les Hauts de Smith Blanc 2017 Pessac LeognanAntonio Galloni:

The 2017 Les Hauts de Smith Blanc, 100% Sauvignon Blanc, is bright and precise, with the extra bit of textural depth that is typical of the vintage. Lemon, grapefruit, mint, white flowers and salt give this tense, crystalline white much of its personality. The 2017 is very nicely done.

93-94 Punkte James Suckling für den Les Hauts de Smith 2017James Suckling im April 2018:

This is really pure and bright with beautiful sauvignon blanc character of sliced lemons, limes and hints of grass. Medium to full body and fresh acidity. Crisp and exciting.

90-92 Parker Punkte für Les Hauts de Smith Blanc 2017 Pessac LeognanLisa Perrotti Brown April 2018:

The 2017 Les Hauts de Smith Blanc is 100% Sauvignon Blanc and offers up intense notions of lemon curd, white peaches and grapefruit with touches of mandarin peel, jasmine and lime zest. The palate is medium-bodied and incredibly elegant yet super zippy in the mouth, with a lively line cutting through the intense citrus flavors, finishing long and zesty.

92 Punkte Vinous für den Chateau Latour Martillac 2016 Pessac LeognanAntonio Galloni Januar 2019:

The 2016 Latour-Martillac has come together very nicely during its aging. Black cherry, plum, leather, licorice, spice and chocolate give the 2016 much of its racy, extroverted feel. Deep, dark and quite powerful, the 2016 is showing beautifully today. The oak could use a bit more time to fully come together, but that is a relatively small critique for a wine that delivers so much pleasure.

93 Parker Punkte für den Chateau Latour Martillac 2016 Pessac LeognanLisa Perrotti Brown im November 2018:

The 2016 Latour Martillac is medium to deep garnet-purple in color with warm plums, kirsch and redcurrant jelly on the nose with touches of bay leaves, iron ore and black soil. Medium-bodied with a well-sustained mid-palate of muscular fruit, it has a firm backbone of fine-grained tannins and wonderful freshness, finishing very long.

96 Sucklingpunkte für den Chateau Latour Martillac 2016 Pessac LeognanVerkostungsbericht vom 03. Februar 2019:

Attractive fennel, grasses, fresh herbs and chamomile with pithy-citrus and wet-chalk notes. The palate delivers a really plush and fleshy array of bright and zesty fruit and has a long, fresh and fleshy resolve. Piercing drive and restrained density here. A blend of Semillon and Sauvignon Blanc. Drink or hold.

The 2016 Malartic Lagravière offers a deeply intriguing interplay of rich red/purplish berry fruit and fresher, brighter notes that give the wine its sense of delineation. Lavender, rose petal and mint add striking high-toned nuances to this finely cut wine. The 2016 has turned out beautifully. Most important of all, it is impressively delicious today.

92 Punkte vom Wine Advocate für den Malartic Lagravier 2016 Lisa Perrotti Brown im November 2018:

The 2016 Malartic Lagraviere is blended of 53% Cabernet Sauvignon, 40% Merlot, 4% Cabernet Franc and 3% Petit Verdot. Medium to deep garnet-purple in color, it opens with wild blueberries and black cherries with cassis, bay leaves and dark chocolate nuances plus a hint of charcoal. Medium-bodied with a lively backbone and solid frame of ripe, rounded tannins, it finishes with an herbal lift.

96 Sucklingpunkte für den Chateau Malartic-Lagraviere 2016 PessacVerkostungsbericht vom 03. Februar 2019:

I love the deep and complex nose, in which the cassis and mint of cabernet sauvignon are beautifully married to the more generous blackberry of ripe merlot and the vanilla and toasty notes from the oak are marvelously integrated. On the palate it creeps up on you slowly; the first impression is ripe yet delicate, then the fine-grained tannins charge through and light up the sky. Very long finish. Drink or hold.

The 2017 La Garde Blanc has a crisp and lively bouquet with dew-dappled green apples and light grass clipping notes. The palate is well balanced with a citric entry, more apply towards the second half with just a soupçon of salinity on the finish. This is often released at a keen price and will hopefully provide great value for money.

The 2016 Domaine de Chevalier is a thrilling wine. Dense and beautifully layered, the 2016 is also quite a bit richer than it usually is. Cabernet Sauvignon aromatics and structure pulse through the wine. The red-toned fruit is incredibly primary at this stage. Readers should be prepared to cellar the 2016 for at least a handful of years. It has been nothing short of magnificent on the three occasions I have tasted it so far.

The 2016 Domaine de Chevalier is a blend of 55% Cabernet Sauvignon, 35% Merlot, 5% Petit Verdot and 5% Cabernet Franc. Deep garnet-purple colored, it rocks up with expressive warm plums, blueberry compote and cassis scents with suggestions of sandalwood, baking spices and potpourri. Composed of 65% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot, 4% Cabernet Franc and 1% Petit Verdot and matured in 60% new oak for 18 months, the 2016 Smith Haut Lafitte has a very deep garnet-purple color, opening with sensuous scents of warm black cherries, blackberry pie, star anise and fragrant lilacs with hints of chocolate box, cigar box and pencil lead plus wafts of truffles and crushed rocks. Medium to full-bodied, rich and seductive, it completely fills the palate with perfumed black berry preserves and superbly plush tannins, finishing epically long and beautifully layered.

98 Punkte vom Vinous-Team für den Chateau Smith Haut Lafitte 2016 rouge Pessac LeognanVerkostungsnotiz aus Januar 2019:

The 2016 Smith Haut Lafitte is flat out stunning. Rich, ample and explosive, the 2016 possesses tremendous energy and tension to play off the wine's dark, rich fruit. I am not sure I have ever tasted a young Smith Haut Lafitte with such extraordinary balance. In 2016, the Grand Vin is tense and pulsing with energy. Hints of lavender, spice, menthol and crème de cassis open up in the glass, but the 2016 stands out for its feel and exceptional harmony. The combined effects of picking a bit early, vinifiying more gently and reducing the impact of oak are having a profound effect at Smith Haut Lafitte. Thinking of some of the highly regarded wines of the last decade here, the 2009 and 2010 in particular, well, the 2016 is on another level. This is magnificent showing from proprietors Florence and Daniel Cathiard, and their team led by Technical Director Fabien Teitgen.

The blackcurrant and blueberry aromas are lifted and beautiful. Lots of flowers, too, together with some mushroom and dried-flower undertones. Full-bodied with firm and very silky tannins giving a lovely texture. Bright acidity lifts the finish and gives it drive and force. Better after 2025.

Blended of 60% Merlot, 36% Cabernet Sauvignon, 3% Petit Verdot and 1% Cabernet Franc, the 2016 Pape Clement has a deep garnet-purple color and quite a serious, earthy nose with truffles, tilled soil, underbrush and smoked meats over a cassis, baked plums and redcurrants core plus a touch of lavender. Medium to full-bodied, firm and grainy, the palate is built like a brick house, supporting muscular black fruit and earthy notions and finishing very long and mineral laced.

96 Punkte Vinous | Chateau Pape Clement 2016 rouge Pessac LeognanAntonio Galloni Januar 2019:

The 2016 Pape Clément is fabulous. Racy and sumptuous in the glass, the 2016 captures the style that now characterizes Bernard Magrez's wines from his estate in Pessac. Specifically, the 2016 is wonderfully deep in the glass, and yet retains terrific freshness as well. A rush of dark cherry, plum, smoke, scorched earth, grilled herb, leather and menthol builds as the 2016 shows off its compelling, inviting personality. I would prefer to give the 2016 at least a few years in bottle to allow its full breadth of aromatics to develop. Even so, there is so much to like. Pliant, supple and super-expressive, Pape Clément is gorgeous in 2016. Tasted two times.

98 Sucklingpunkte für den Chateau Pape Clement 2016 rouge Pessac LeognanJames Suckling Januar 2019:

Stunning concentration of perfectly ripe blackcurrants here with a delicate whiff of vanilla oak and extremely fine tannins that are almost perfectly integrated on the seductive and delicate palate, right through the almost literally breathtaking, super-long and very polished finish. Try from 2022.

96 Punkte vom Vinous-Team für den Chateau Pape Clement 2016 rouge Pessac LeognanVinous / Neal Martin Januar 2019:

The 2016 Pape Clément bursts out of the glass, offering ripe blackberry, raspberry coulis, fresh mint and hints of licorice on the well-defined nose. It is perhaps a little more opulent than its peers, but unlike in the past, I don’t find it excessive. The palate is well balanced with supple tannin. There is a killer line of acidity and real panache toward a velvety, almost Pauillac-like finish armed with shimmering black fruit laced with graphite.

The 2016 La Parde Haut-Bailly is gorgeous, supple and wonderfully inviting. Even so, there is quite a bit of supporting structure that gives the wine its energy and overall shape. Smoke, tobacco, cedar, licorice and leather add aromatic nuance, but it is the wine's textural depth that stands out most. La Parde is a second wine that overdelivers, big time.

The 2016 Haut-Bailly is medium to deep garnet-purple in color. The nose opens with beautiful floral notes of violets and lavender accented with earthy notions and sparks of crushed rocks over a core of kirsch, cassis and wild blueberries. Full-bodied, rich and seductive, it has layer upon layer of red, black and blue fruits intermingled with earth and mineral hints leading to a very long, perfumed finish.

97+ Punkte vinous / Galloni für den Chateau Haut Bailly 2016 Pessac LeognanAntonio Galloni bewertet den Haut Bailly 2016 im Januar 2019 wie folgt:

A big, vertical wine, the 2016 Haut-Bailly explodes onto the palate with tremendous depth and intensity. Readers should be in no rush to drink the 2016, as it won't be close to ready to drink for at least a decade, and I say that as an eternal optimist. Black cherry, smoke, tobacco, cedar, gravel and incense add to the wine's decidedly somber personality.

98 Sucklingpunkte für den Chateau Haut Bailly 2016 Pessac LeognanJames Suckling im Februar 2019:

Wonderful aromas of tobacco, sweet fruit and licorice follow through to a full body with ultra-fine tannins that caress every inch of your palate. Love the length and subtlety to this young wine. Gorgeous. Drink after 2024.

97 Punkte vom Vinous-Team für den Chateau Haut Bailly 2016 Pessac LeognanNeal Martin im Januar 2019:

The 2016 Haut-Bailly was mightily impressive when tasted from barrel. Now, matured in 50% new oak and bottled at the end of April 2018 (they prefer to bottle before spring here), it has a very well defined bouquet of black fruit, graphite, crushed stone and light rose petal aromas that gain intensity with aeration. The palate is medium-bodied with quite grippy tannin. This Haut-Bailly feels pure and classic in style, offering well-judged acidity and a sophisticated, quite tensile finish that lingers long in the mouth. I suspect this might close down in a year or two and deserves perhaps 8 to 10 years in bottle to show what it can really do. The best Haut-Bailly in the modern era? For certain.

This is one of the largest percentages of Cabernet Franc for this wine this vintage. The 2016 Les Carmes Haut-Brion is very clearly one of the wines of the vintage. Breathtaking in its beauty, the 2016 soars from the glass with stunning aromatic and flavor intensity. Red cherry jam, wild flowers, mint, blood orange and sage are some of many notes that develop. In the glass, the 2016 is a vivid, statuesque, exotic wine that takes over all the senses as it delivers tons of pure pleasure. Readers should plan on cellaring the 2016 for at least a few years, but that will be virtually impossible. Medium-bodied, the elegantly crafted palate is completely packed with intense floral, mineral and cassis-laced flavors with a firm frame of very finely pixelated tannins and seamless freshness, finishing very long and achingly stunning.

Stunning black fruit with plenty of forest berries in there, the whole picture cool and very delicate, also on the concentrated and highly structured palate. The tannins are very fine-grained, but decisively austere and, together with the vibrant acidity, they propel the finish out towards infinity and leave a breathtaking final impression. A blend of 56 per cent merlot, 37.5 per cent cabernet sauvignon and 6.5 per cent cabernet franc. Very long aging potential, but you could try it in 2023.

The 2016 Haut-Brion is quite possibly even more magnificent from bottle than it was from barrel. Powerful and rich, yet not at all heavy, the 2016 is a wine of nearly indescribable beauty. Haut-Brion is often a thrilling wine, but it is rarely this finessed in its youth. Gravel, cure meat, tobacco and cedar are some of the many nuances that develop with air, but it is an extraordinary sense of harmony that really stands out. What a wine!

The 2015 Clos Floridene offers up luscious redcurrant, wild strawberry and floral scents on the nose, almost Burgundy-like in terms of purity. The palate is well balanced with fine but firm tannin, a little pinched at the moment, but by the time of bottling it will have undone its top-shirt button. Plenty of energy here, a Graves with a nod to Volnay, bound to offer 8-10 years of pleasure.

Cabernet Sauvignon takes center stage in the 2016 Le Petit Haut Lafitte. Graphite, menthol, pine, lavender and crushed rocks give notable brightness and energy, while firm, slightly nervous tannins extend the finish nicely. The 2016 Le Petit Haut Lafitte is a blend of 60% Cabernet Sauvignon and 40% Merlot matured in 20% new oak. It has a well-defined bouquet with mulberry, cranberry, pressed flowers and a touch of undergrowth; it is neatly defined though not powerful, but it does demonstrare commendable precision. The palate is medium-bodied with crisp and firm tannin, quite tensile and energetic (more so than the Les Hauts de Smith) with impressive structure and length on the almost Pauillac-like, graphite infused finish. Do not ignore this little gem from Château Smith Haut-Lafitte, because it always punches above its weight.

Chateau de Fieuzal 2012 rouge Pessac Leognan
88-91 Parker Punkte

Robert M. Parker Jr. April 2013
Sweet black currant, lead pencil shavings, charcoal and camphor aromas are followed by a medium-bodied, front end-loaded, dark ruby/purple-colored wine with attractive fruit, medium body, sweet tannin and a surprisingly well-balanced, long finish. This potentially outstanding wine is another example of how successful Pessac-Leognan was in 2012. Drink it over the next 12-15 years.

La Mission Haut Brion rouge 2015 mit 100 Punkten bei James Sucklinger bewertet den Chateau La Mission Haut Brion rouge 2015 am 02.02.2018 wie folgt:

Rose petals, sandalwood and currants with some plums and fruit tea. Full-bodied, tight and focused. Incredibly straight and minerally. Toned muscles here. Tannic. Traditional and unwavering. Try in 2024.

La Mission Haut Brion 2015 mit 98 Parker Punkten bewertetLisa Perrotti Brown bewertet den La Mission Haut Brion 2015 am 21.02.2018 wie folgt:

The deep garnet-purple colored 2015 La Mission Haut-Brion is a blend of 58% Merlot, 7% Cabernet Franc and 35% Cabernet Sauvignon. Youthfully mute with bright, youthful red currants, black raspberries, cassis and freshly crushed blackberries notions, it slowly unfurls to reveal an earthy/minerally undercurrent of damp soil, charcoal, iron ore and truffles plus a waft of violets. Medium to full-bodied, decadently fruited and yet wonderfully elegant with very ripe, very silky tannins, freshness that sits well in the background and an almost electric intensity of vibrant red and black fruit flavors, it finishes long and minerally. Just. Beautiful. Consider giving it 6-7 years in bottle before broaching and drink it over the next 30+.

Chateau Pape Clement rouge 2015 mit 99 Punkten bei James SucklingJames Suckling beschreibt den Chateau Pape Clement 2015 wie folgt:

The clarity to this wine is impressive. Wealth of dark-plum and black-fruit essence not to mention orange citrus. Everything is dialed up to the limit here but then dialed in on the palate. Such impressive depth and suave, ripe, fluid tannins that deliver impressive length. Great wine. Such polish. Superb. Try from 2022.

Chateau Pape Clement 2015 Doppel-Magnum in der 1er OHKAntonio Galloni beschreibt den Chateau Pape Clement 2015 im Februar 2018 wie folgt:

One of the stars of the vintage, the 2015 Pape Clément is fabulous. Dark and beautifully resonant, it captures all the natural radiance of the year in the Pape Clément style. Super-ripe black cherry, plum, mocha, chocolate, new leather and spice effortlessly fill out the wine's ample frame. Soft contours and an open-knit, inviting personality are just two of the reasons the Pape Clément is going to be virtually impossible to resist, even in the early going. The blend is 60% Cabernet Sauvignon and 40% Merlot. Tasted two times.

Chateau Pape Clement 2015 mit 96 Parker PunktenLisa Perrotti Brown beschreibt den Chateau Pape Clement 2015 am 21.02.2018 wie folgt:

The 2015 Pape Clement is blended of 56% Cabernet Sauvignon, 40% Merlot and 4% Cabernet Franc, matured in 80% new and 20% one-year-old French oak barrels for 18 months. Medium to deep garnet-purple, it opens with profound notes of crushed red and black currants, black cherries and cassis with touches of mocha, baking spices, menthol and lavender plus a hint of new leather. Medium-bodied, firm and concentrated with tons of tightly wound black fruit and earth layers, it has a grainy frame and refreshing lift on the long finish.

20 / 20 Punkte  Rene Gabriel beschreibt den Chateau Pape Clement 2015 wie folgt:

50 % Cabernet Sauvignon, 47 % Merlot, 2 % Petit Verdot, 1 % Cabernet Franc.

The 2015 Haut-Bergey has turned out beautifully. Dark cherry, plum, hard candy and mint are all pushed forward. This decidedly succulent Pessac Léognan has gained considerable body, texture and complexity in barrel. Today, it is terrific.

Chateau Haut Bergey 2015 Pessac LeognanWinespectator bewertet den Chateau Haut Bergey 2015 wie folgt:
This has a sappy core of kirsch and plum preserve flavors, laced with bright, fresh bay leaf and savory notes. A well-buried iron spine holds the finish, letting the fruit play out. Fleshes out nicely in the glass. Very solid. Best from 2019 through 2027. 10,000 cases made.

Pure fruit here in a reserved and focused presentation with just a hint of dried roses. Full body, integrated tannins and a fresh, tangy finish. Shows focus and brightness. Second wine of Château Haut-Bailly. Needs two or three years to soften.

Try in 2021.

La Parde Haut Bailly 2015 Pessac Leognan mit 92 Punkten bei VinousAntonio Galloni bewertet den La Parde de Haut Bailly 2015 wie folgt:

The 2015 La Parde de Haut-Bailly is laced with the essence of black cherry, plum, licorice, menthol and grilled herbs. Supple and inviting, the 2015 will drink well upon release, but this deceptively midweight second wine from Haut-Bailly also has more than enough structure to age well for a number of years. The blend is 60% Merlot, 30% Cabernet Sauvignon and 10% Cabernet Franc.

93-95 Parker Punkte für den Chateau Latour Martillac 2015 blanc Pessac LeognanNeal Martin bewertet den Chateau Latour Martillac 2015 blanc im April 2016:

The 2015 La Tour Martillac is a blend of 54% Cabernet Sauvignon, 40% Merlot and 6% Petit Verdot matured in 40% new French oak. It has a slightly more high-toned and outgoing bouquet, with dark cherries and blackcurrant aromas, a smidgen of cassis emerging with time in the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannin, a pleasant saltiness here, very focused with a finish of real pedigree. This is a superb Pessac-Léognan from the estate - one of the best in recent years.
