92 Punkte von Jeb DunnuckThe Merlot-dominated 2020 Les Hauts De Smith (there's 40% Cabernet Sauvignon) is a beauty offering classic Graves-like aromas of gravelly earth, smoked tobacco, and woodsmoke as well as plenty of ripe, perfumed red and black fruits. This medium to full-bodied, plush, sexy Pessac-Léognan is perfect for drinking over the coming decade.

96 Punkte Vinous | Chateau Pape Clement 2016 rouge Pessac LeognanAntonio Galloni Januar 2019:

The 2016 Pape Clément is fabulous. Racy and sumptuous in the glass. the 2016 captures the style that now characterizes Bernard Magrez's wines from his estate in Pessac. Specifically. the 2016 is wonderfully deep in the glass. and yet retains terrific freshness as well. A rush of dark cherry. plum. smoke. scorched earth. grilled herb. leather and menthol builds as the 2016 shows off its compelling. inviting personality. I would prefer to give the 2016 at least a few years in bottle to allow its full breadth of aromatics to develop. Even so. there is so much to like. Pliant. supple and super-expressive. Pape Clément is gorgeous in 2016. Tasted two times.

The 2016 Pape Clément bursts out of the glass. offering ripe blackberry. raspberry coulis. fresh mint and hints of licorice on the well-defined nose. It is perhaps a little more opulent than its peers. but unlike in the past. I don’t find it excessive. The palate is well balanced with supple tannin. There is a killer line of acidity and real panache toward a velvety. almost Pauillac-like finish armed with shimmering black fruit laced with graphite.

The 2018 Pape Clement is a blend of 66% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot and 4% Cabernet Franc, aged for approximately 18 months in oak barriques, 60% new. Medium to deep garnet-purple colored, it rolls out of the glass with vibrant notes of crushed black cherries, stewed black plums and black raspberries, followed by suggestions of violets, star anise, cardamom and camphor with a waft of iron ore. The medium to full-bodied palate delivers exhilarating energy, offering crunchy black berry and exotic spice layers with a solid frame of ripe, grainy tannins and loads of freshness, finishing long and mineral tinged. Still very primary, it will need a good 5 years in bottle to deliver that next-level experience and will drink over the next 30+ years.

99 Punkte von Jeb Dunnuck für den Jeb Dunnuck bewertet den Chateau Pape Clement 2018 rouge Pessac Leognan wie folgt:

Coming from 66% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot, and the rest Cabernet Franc brought up in 60% new French oak, the 2018 Château Pape Clement from Bernard Magrez is a gorgeous wine that's performing even better from bottle than barrel, which is always a good sign. Deep ruby/purple, with stunning crème de cassis and blackberry fruits as well as kaleidoscope-like notes of graphite, scorched earth, smoke, violets, and spring flowers, it offers full-bodied richness yet stays light on its feet, graceful, and almost ethereal on the palate, with integrated acidity and building yet seamless tannins. The Cabernet Sauvignon really sings at this point, and there's almost a Médoc-like regalness here. Reminding me of a slightly more elegant 2005 (it also has similarities to the 2016), it will benefit from 4-6 years in the cellar and keep for 30+ years.

Now. matured in 50% new oak and bottled at the end of April 2018 (they prefer to bottle before spring here). it has a very well defined bouquet of black fruit. graphite. crushed stone and light rose petal aromas that gain intensity with aeration. The palate is medium-bodied with quite grippy tannin. This Haut-Bailly feels pure and classic in style. offering well-judged acidity and a sophisticated. quite tensile finish that lingers long in the mouth. I suspect this might close down in a year or two and deserves perhaps 8 to 10 years in bottle to show what it can really do. The best Haut-Bailly in the modern era? For certain.

Chateau Pape Clement rouge 2015 mit 99 Punkten bei James SucklingJames Suckling beschreibt den Chateau Pape Clement 2015 wie folgt:

The clarity to this wine is impressive. Wealth of dark-plum and black-fruit essence not to mention orange citrus. Everything is dialed up to the limit here but then dialed in on the palate. Such impressive depth and suave. ripe. fluid tannins that deliver impressive length. Great wine. Such polish. Superb. Try from 2022.

Chateau Pape Clement 2015 Doppel-Magnum in der 1er OHKAntonio Galloni beschreibt den Chateau Pape Clement 2015 im Februar 2018 wie folgt:

One of the stars of the vintage. the 2015 Pape Clément is fabulous. Dark and beautifully resonant. it captures all the natural radiance of the year in the Pape Clément style. Super-ripe black cherry. plum. mocha. chocolate. new leather and spice effortlessly fill out the wine's ample frame. Soft contours and an open-knit. inviting personality are just two of the reasons the Pape Clément is going to be virtually impossible to resist. even in the early going. The blend is 60% Cabernet Sauvignon and 40% Merlot. Tasted two times.

Chateau Pape Clement 2015 mit 96 Parker PunktenLisa Perrotti Brown beschreibt den Chateau Pape Clement 2015 am 21.02.2018 wie folgt:

The 2015 Pape Clement is blended of 56% Cabernet Sauvignon. 40% Merlot and 4% Cabernet Franc. matured in 80% new and 20% one-year-old French oak barrels for 18 months. Medium to deep garnet-purple. it opens with profound notes of crushed red and black currants. black cherries and cassis with touches of mocha. baking spices. menthol and lavender plus a hint of new leather. Medium-bodied. firm and concentrated with tons of tightly wound black fruit and earth layers. it has a grainy frame and refreshing lift on the long finish.

20 / 20 Punkte  Rene Gabriel beschreibt den Chateau Pape Clement 2015 wie folgt:

50 % Cabernet Sauvignon. 47 % Merlot. 2 % Petit Verdot. 1 % Cabernet Franc.

Youthfully mute with bright. youthful red currants. black raspberries. cassis and freshly crushed blackberries notions. it slowly unfurls to reveal an earthy/minerally undercurrent of damp soil. charcoal. iron ore and truffles plus a waft of violets. Medium to full-bodied. decadently fruited and yet wonderfully elegant with very ripe. very silky tannins. freshness that sits well in the background and an almost electric intensity of vibrant red and black fruit flavors. it finishes long and minerally. 98 Punkte vom Wine Advocate für den Chateau Smith Haut Lafitte 2016 rouge Pessac LeognanVerkostungsnotiz vom 30. November 2018:

Composed of 65% Cabernet Sauvignon. 30% Merlot, 4% Cabernet Franc and 1% Petit Verdot and matured in 60% new oak for 18 months, the 2016 Smith Haut Lafitte has a very deep garnet-purple color, opening with sensuous scents of warm black cherries, blackberry pie. star anise and fragrant lilacs with hints of chocolate box, cigar box and pencil lead plus wafts of truffles and crushed rocks. Medium to full-bodied, rich and seductive, it completely fills the palate with perfumed black berry preserves and superbly plush tannins, finishing epically long and beautifully layered.

98 Punkte vom Vinous-Team für den Chateau Smith Haut Lafitte 2016 rouge Pessac LeognanVerkostungsnotiz aus Januar 2019:

The 2016 Smith Haut Lafitte is flat out stunning. Rich, ample and explosive, the 2016 possesses tremendous energy and tension to play off the wine's dark, rich fruit. I am not sure I have ever tasted a young Smith Haut Lafitte with such extraordinary balance. In 2016, the Grand Vin is tense and pulsing with energy. Hints of lavender, spice, menthol and crème de cassis open up in the glass, but the 2016 stands out for its feel and exceptional harmony. The combined effects of picking a bit early, vinifiying more gently and reducing the impact of oak are having a profound effect at Smith Haut Lafitte. Thinking of some of the highly regarded wines of the last decade here, the 2009 and 2010 in particular, well, the 2016 is on another level. This is magnificent showing from proprietors Florence and Daniel Cathiard, and their team led by Technical Director Fabien Teitgen.

97 Sucklingpunkte für den Chateau Smith Haut Lafitte 2016 rouge Pessac LeognanVerkostungsbericht vom 03. Februar 2019:

The blackcurrant and blueberry aromas are lifted and beautiful. Lots of flowers, too. together with some mushroom and dried-flower undertones. Full-bodied with firm and very silky tannins giving a lovely texture. Bright acidity lifts the finish and gives it drive and force. Better after 2025.

Die Degustationsnotiz des Wine Advocate zum Chateau Malartic-Lagraviere 2020 Pessac Leognan :

The deep purple-black 2020 Malartic Lagraviere leaps from the glass with vibrant notes of Bing cherries, black raspberries, ripe plums and boysenberries, plus suggestions of pencil lead, wild sage and crushed rocks. Medium-bodied, the palate has lovely energy and freshness, offering a solid backbone of grainy tannins to support the lively red and black fruit layers, finishing savory. The tentative blend is 50.4% Cabernet Sauvignon, 47.8% Merlot, and 1.8% Cabernet Franc, with only 38% of production going into the grand vin. The alcohol is 14% this year.Commencing with the 2020 vintage, the estate has chosen a new bottle for the grand cru and second vin, highlighted by an engraved ship, the symbol of the estate.

94-95 Suckling-Punkte für den Chateau Malartic Lagraviere 2020
James Suckling schreibt zum Chateau Malartic-Lagraviere 2020 Pessac Leognan Folgendes:

Lots of blackberry, cherry and walnut aromas and flavors. Some tar, too. It’s full-bodied with chewy tannins that are polished and energetic. It turns linear and long at the end. Juicy too.

94-96 Punkte vom Vinous-Team für den Chateau Malartic Lagraviere 2020
Das meint die Vinous-Mannschaft um Antonio Galloni zum Chateau Malartic Lagraviere:

The 2020 Malartic Lagravière, whose picking was completed on September 24, before the rains, has a bright, vivid nose of mineral-infused red fruit mixed with hints of blueberry and cassis. Very focused and precise, this is an aromatically sophisticated Pessac-Léognan. The palate is medium-bodied with graphite-tinged black fruit, hints of wild mint coming through, and lively and tensile toward the finish. This is one of the best vintages of Malartic Lagravière that I have encountered out of bottle. Ignore at your peril.

100 Punkte Auszeichnung von Jeb Dunnuck für den Chateau Smith Haut Lafitte 2020 rouge Pessac LeognanJeb Dunnuck zum Chateau Smith Haut Lafitte 2020 rouge Pessac Leognan im März 2023:
Absolutely pure gold and reminding me of the 2009 (or is it the 2010?), the 2020 Château Smith Haut Lafitte sports a dense purple hue to go with incredible aromatics of blackberries, blueberries, scorched earth, wood smoke, and acacia flowers. One of the most concentrated, rich, and sexy wines in the vintage, this massive and extraordinarily opulent 2020 shows the vintage's pure, elegant profile yet backs it up with sensational levels of fruit and texture. Based on 65% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot, and the balance Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot, it already offers pleasure given its wealth of fruit, but it deserves 7-8 years of bottle age and will evolve for 40-50 years. Not enough can be said about the quality of these wines. Bravo to Florence and Daniel Cathiard, as well as to director Fabien Teitgen, for another incredible achievement.

95+ Punkte vom Wine Advocate für den Chateau Smith Haut Lafitte 2020 rouge Pessac LeognanWilliam Kelley zum Chateau Smith Haut Lafitte 2020 rouge Pessac Leognan im April 2023:

The 2020 Smith Haut Lafitte is more structured and introverted than its 2019 predecessor, unwinding in the glass with aromas of cassis and plums mingled with notions of pencil shavings, violets and minty new oak. Medium to full-bodied, deep and concentrated, its velvety attack segues into a multidimensional mid-palate that's framed by rich, generously extracted tannins that assert themselves on the long, youthfully firm finish. This is a strong effort that's true to the house style and which will reward a little patience.

99 Sucklingpunkte für den Chateau Smith Haut Lafitte 2020 rouge Pessac LeognanJames Suckling zum Chateau Smith Haut Lafitte 2020 rouge Pessac Leognan im Januar 2023:

Extremely fresh and deep in the nose with raspberry and blackcurrant character, as well as stone, fresh green tobacco and ink. Full-bodied with a dense center palate and gorgeous fine yet steely tannins. It calms down at the end with berries, citrus and some lavender. Salty at the end. Very minerally. Flinty. From organically grown grapes. 65% cabernet sauvignon, 30% merlot, 4% cabernet franc and 1% petit verdot. Give it four or five years to come around.

Exotic and lush in feel, with well-steeped plum, boysenberry and blackberry fruit flavors rolling through, scored with hints of espresso crema, dark tobacco and black licorice along the way. Very polished in feel, but with a late flicker of savory and a subtle tug of earth to keep this honest in the end. Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. Best from 2026 through 2037. 10,000 cases made, 2,400 cases imported. –JM

94 Punkte von Jeb Dunnuck für den A more structured, serious wine, the more Cabernet Sauvignon-dominated 2020 Le Petit Smith Haut Lafitte has pure cassis and ripe black cherry fruits as well as medium to full-bodied richness, ripe, velvety tannins, classic notes of leafy tobacco and spice, and a great finish. It stays in the pure, focused style of the vintage and is going to benefit from 3-4 years of bottle age. It will keep for 10-15.

The 2019 Le Petit Smith Haut Lafitte is fabulous. Rich, powerful and vibrant, Le Petit packs a serious punch. Readers will have a hard time keeping their hands off this jewel of a wine.
