Bereits 1840 zählte das Chateau Larrivet Haut-Brion zu den besten Weingütern der Gemeinde Leognan. 1987 wurde es von der Familie Gervoson gekauft, die ihm dank harter Arbeit seinen alten Glanz zurückgegeben hat. Larrivet Haut-, Brion ist ein Anwesen von außergewöhnlichem Charme, das sich über einhundert Hektar erstreckt. Das wunderschöne Chateau aus dem 19. Jahrhundert ist von einem 13 Hektar großen Park umgeben. Die Weinberge liegen auf hohen und mittleren Anhöhen aus Garonnekieseln, während Wald und Weiden den Rest des Anwesens ausmachen.
Das ehrgeizige Modernisierungs- und Investitionsprogramm in der Kellerei und in den Weinbergen ermöglicht es heute, Weine zu erzeugen, die sich durch ihre Eleganz und ihren Charakter auszeichenen.

I loved the 2022 Château Larrivet Haut-Brion, and I wouldn't be surprised to see this check in near the 2020, although it's in a riper, more sexy style. Cassis, plums, chocolate, and earthy notes all emerge from this full-bodied Graves that has an expansive, layered mouthfeel, ripe, velvety tannins, and solid mid-palate density. It's going to benefit from just a few years of bottle age. The blend is 61% Cabernet Sauvignon, 21% Cabernet Franc, and the balance Merlot, resting in 50% new oak, with a small amount in amphora.

The 2022 Larrivet Haut-Brion offers up aromas of blackcurrant, blueberry, raspberry, violet, orange zest, iris and ripe plums, followed by a medium to full-bodied palate that's supple, seamless and elegant, its succulent core of fruit framed by velvety tannins, concluding with a floral finish. A blend of 61% Cabernet Sauvignon, 18% Merlot and 21% Cabernet Franc—the most significant portion of this grape variety ever used at this estate run by Bruno Lemoine—this is one of the most interesting wines that this estate has produced in recent years. It matured in 15% amphorae, 50% new barrels and the balance in tanks.

Smoked, cherries, strawberry, smoked meats, spearmint, and cigar smoke create the nose. The wine is medium-bodied, elegant, soft, silky and refined. The finish is loaded with sweet, red pit fruits, with chocolate-mint coming in at the end of the refined finish. The wine is made from 61% Cabernet Sauvignon, 21% Cabernet Franc and 18% Merlot. 14% ABV, 3.71 pH. Yields were 40 hectoliters. 38% of the harvest was placed into the Grand Vin. Picking took place September 6 - September 28. It is interesting to note that Larrivet was the first known wine of the 2022 futures campaign to be offered, and it was priced at a discount to 2021! Drink from 2026-2045.

From there you find sweet, yellow and orange citrus, pineapple, and pears from start to finish on the mid-palate through to the end note. The nose is just great with all of its pineapple, white peach, honeysuckle, mango, orange rind, and waxy lemons in the perfume. Fresh, crisp and energetic, with a bit of chalk to accompany all the yellow fruits in the finish. The wine is produced from 86% Sauvignon Blanc and 14% Semillon. 14% ABV, 3.24 pH. Drink from 2024-2028.

A wonderful combination of juicy and fleshy peach with bright lime and grapefruit pith offering sweetness, sharpness, bitterness and coolness. Well constructed with lots of enjoyable drinking promise. Doesn't shout so much right now, but there's grip, intensity and finesse. Elegant yet characterful. Harvest 22 - 31 August.
