Although yields were low. the quality of the grapes in this vintage was outstanding.

A youthful. clean bouquet recalls wildflower bloom in Northern California. aromas of purple flowers and garrigue rising from the rocks. Its fruits are Bing cherries. black raspberry. currants and red apple. offered here in a fresh yet restrained ripeness. Like the rock bed of its loamy Sonoma County vineyard. La Muse bends and turns with seductive aromas of baking spices. juniper berry and a redwood grove in spring. Silky. well-integrated tannins with a lingering finish complete a wine with signature balance. La Muse is from the earth. hinting to depths of clay and alluvial soils. with structure and suppleness that will age beautifully for decades to come. – August 2017

Joseph Phelps Cabernet Sauvignon 2016

94

Deep garnet-purple colored, the 2018 Quintessa (Cabernet Sauvignon) sashays out with crème de cassis, blackberry preserves and redcurrant jelly scents, plus wafts of dark chocolate, anise and lavender with a touch of tobacco. Medium to full-bodied, elegantly styled and stunningly energetic, it has a fine-grained texture and long, fragrant finish.

August 2021:

This is beautifully polished with firm, dusty tannins to the blue fruit, as well as chocolate and cedar character. Some much earthier character, too, from mushrooms to bark. Forest flowers. Perfumed. It’s full-bodied with round tannins and a soft, creamy finish. Some iron and iodine to this. So attractive at the finish. From biodynamically grown grapes. Better after 2023.

“The precision of the vintage, a result of the cooler weather, long harvest, and continued study of the property, is evident in the movement and texture of the wine. Already showing the hallmarks of a great age-worthy vintage, the 2018 Quintessa is both pleasurable to drink now and will continue to age with grace as it develops more savory notes and length to the finish over the next 20 years.”

Caymus Vineyards 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley

The flagship is the 2015 Cabernet Sauvignon Annum, another wine that plays in the more elegant, pretty end of the spectrum. Notes of cassis, kirsch, cedary spice, and earth all flow to a medium to full-bodied, nicely concentrated, balanced Cabernet that has polished tannins, no hard edges, and a great finish. Give bottles a year or two and it’s going to keep for 15+ years.

Togni's 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon Estate is quite dark and powerful. but also very much medium in body. Graphite. smoke. savory herbs. mint. leather and a core of inky dark red and purplish fruit infuse this deep. beautifully layered Cabernet Sauvignon. The 2014 is a wine built on energy and aromatics that won't hit its stride until at least age ten.

94+ Punkte vom Wine Advocate für den Philip Togni 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley30th Dec 2016 Robert M. Parker Jr.:

The flagship wine. the 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon Estate from his vineyard high on Spring Mountain is a blend of 82% Cabernet Sauvignon. 15% Merlot. 2% Cabernet Franc and 1% Petit Verdot. It seems slightly more approachable and civilized for a young Togni wine. with a dense ruby/purple color. loads of blackcurrant. licorice. and graphite. some earth and spice. but very subtle earth nuances. It is full-bodied and rich. but the tannins are well-integrated and don’t scream as loudly as some vintages of Togni can. For Togni. this is probably one of his more forward and precociously styled Cabernets. It will probably approach drinkability in several years. but don’t discount its aging potential. as this easily has 20-25 years of cellaring potential.

"2014 is a very good vintage for the valley. A summer without severe heat waves allowed us to produce wines with good balance."

Climatic conditions
2014 was characterized by a very dry early winter with heavy rains in February and continued rainfall in March and April (February 11.7 inches | March: 4 inches | April: 2
inches). Average temperatures were higher than historical averages with minor heat spikes in June (38°C) and in July (39°C). No heat spikes were recorded in August or September.
Tasting notes
Othello 2014 is a refreshing and straightforward wine expressing its bountiful fruit with bright aromas of wild strawberries and soft tannins. Pleasant to drink in its youth. Othello
will nonetheless improve with a few years of cellaring.

Fabulous nose of mushrooms. like porcini. with black truffle that turns to citrus fruits such as orange and tangerine. Some vine bark. Full-bodied yet wonderfully firm and formed with refined and polished tannins. Super definition. Drink in 2018. but wonderful to experience.

95 Punkte vom Vinous-Team für den Napanook 2013 Napa Valley Dominus EstateAntonio Galloni - Verkostungsnotiz vom Oktober 2015:

Just as magnificent from bottle as it was in barrel, the 2013 Napanook is dense, powerful and brooding, with searing intensity and extraordinary balance. Lavender, plums, violets, licorice and smoke are some of the signatures, but the 2013 exudes finesse, power and intensity. Bracing and searing, the 2013 is going to require quite a bit of patience. If anything, this is an insane level of quality for the second selection. The 2013 could turn out to be a thirty-year wine. It is every bit that magnificent, especially if given some aeration.

93 Punkte vom Wine Advocate für den Napanook 2013 Napa Valley Dominus EstateRobert Parker jr. im Oktober 2015:

There are 2,000 cases of the 2013 Napanook Proprietary Red Wine, a blend of 92% Cabernet Sauvignon, 5% Petit Verdot and 3% Cabernet Franc. This wine reflects the much higher quality that’s emerging with the second wine of Dominus, which has really become almost its own entity. Loads of loamy soil notes, grilled herbs, meat, blackcurrants, sweet kirsch and licorice are all present in this medium to full-bodied, lush, sexy wine, even in 2013. It is interesting how much more evolved and forward the 2013 Napanook is compared to the 2013 Dominus. This wine can be drunk over the next 12-15 years. In any event, both merit considerable attention from subscribers.

92 Punkte Robert Parker Napanook 2014 Napa Valley Dominus EstateRobert M. Parker beschreibt den Napanook 2014 by Dominus Estate 28. Oktober 2016 wie folgt:
The 2014s. where the production of Napanook was only 2.200 cases and Dominus slightly more than the 2015 at 4.000 cases. was another early harvest. although somewhat later than 2015. The 2014 Napanook is a blend of 88% Cabernet Sauvignon. 3% Cabernet Franc and 9% Petit Verdot. showing notes of loamy earth. Christmas fruitcake. black cherry and blackcurrant fruit and underbrush in a supple. fragrant and lush heady style. It is another successful wine that should drink beautifully young and age nicely for up to 20 years.

Christian Moueix’s Dominus Estate continues to be one of California’s leaders in turning out gorgeously elegant. complex and long-lived wines. A magnum of 1991 from my cellar tasted several weeks before I left for California was pure perfection and evidence that at 25 years old. before he had built his stunning winery. great quality was coming from this iconic vineyard. The 2015s are certainly going to be one of his all-time great vintages. rivaling 2013. 2012. 2007. 2002. 2001 and his earliest classics. such as 1994 and 1991. Production in 2015 was about 3.000 cases of Napanook and 3.800 cases of Dominus.

93 Punkte vom Vinous-Team für den Napanook 2014 Napa Valley Dominus EstateVerkostet im Dezember 2016:

The 2014 Napanook is, once again, a very serious wine. Dark, powerful and brooding, the 2014 possesses remarkable intensity packed into its mid-weight frame. Smoke, scorched earth, tobacco, graphite, savory herbs and menthol add to an impression of gravitas. The 2014 doesn't quite have the depth or power of the 2013, but it leans in that direction. I would give it a few years in bottle to settle down. This is an impressive showing.

92 Punkte vom Wine Advocate für den Napanook 2017 Napa Valley Dominus EstateLisa Perrotti Brown im Oktober 2019:

There was about 40% of a normal crop this year due to strict selection. Grapes were harvested from September 21 to October 3 and the wine was bottled in May 2019. The 2017 Napanook is made up of 89% Cabernet Sauvignon, 9% Cabernet Franc and 2% Petit Verdot and was aged in 20% new French oak barrels. Deep purple-black in color, it springs from the glass with vivacious notions of warm black cherries, blackberry compote and crushed black currants with touches of dark chocolate, licorice, fertile loam, underbrush, camphor and cinnamon stick plus a waft of lilacs. Full-bodied with a firm level of grainy tannins and seamless freshness supporting the bold, spicy black fruit layers, it finishes on a lingering perfumed note. With further time, it begins to reveal the mineral signature of the estate, delivering a glimpse at the gravitas to come with 5-7 years in the cellar. 1,400 cases were made.

93 Punkte vom Vinous-Team für den Napanook 2017 Napa Valley Dominus EstateAntonio Galloni im Januar 2020:

The 2017 Napanook is forward, lush and quite giving - in other words, very much in keeping with the style of the year. Silky and radiant, with plenty of bright, red-toned fruit, the 2017 Napanook is one of the very finest Napa Valley Cabernets readers will find in this price range. Savory, earthy and licorice undertones add striking shades of nuance, with silky tannins that extend the finish effortlessly. This is such a gorgeous and inviting wine. When just opened, the 2017 mostly offers density and opulence, but a few hours of air brings out layers of subtlety and aromatic nuance.

94 Punkte von Jeb Dunnuck für den Napanook 2017 Napa Valley Dominus EstateJeb Dunnuck im Januar 2020:

The 2017 Napanook checks in 89% Cabernet Sauvignon, 9% Cabernet Franc, and the rest Petit Verdot. It offers classy notes of cassis, black currants, toasted spices, and hints of flowers. With lots of chocolately richness, medium to full body, and beautifully ripe tannins, it's layered and has impressive depth of fruit, followed by a great finish. It's going to evolve for 15-20 years. It's an incredible value in classic, impeccably made Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon.

Deep garnet-purple in color, the 2018 Napanook leaps from the glass with vivacious scents of fresh blueberries, black cherries, crushed blackcurrants and redcurrant jelly with hints of pencil shavings, red roses and dusty soil plus a waft of bay leaves. Medium-bodied, the palate is very tightly wound, allowing glimpses at loads of mineral and savory nuances among the taut black and red fruit notes, supported by fine-grained tannins and bold freshness, finishing with a compelling herbal lift.

The 2018 Napanook is every bit the charmer it was last year. Succulent and racy out of the glass, the 2018 is such a gorgeous wine. Silky tannins and generous fruit give the 2018 so much immediacy and appeal. Black cherry, plum, menthol, spice and licorice are pushed forward

The 2018 Napanook showed incredibly well, with fabulous crème de cassis, spring flowers, graphite, and green tobacco aromas and flavors. With terrific ripeness, medium to full body, and ripe, yet polished tannins, this beauty should be snatched up by savvy readers. It should evolve for 15 years or more. The blend is 90% Cabernet Sauvignon, 6% Cabernet Franc, and the rest Petit Verdot, aged in 20% new French oak.
