Very long finish. All about finesse and wonderful length. 68% cabernet sauvignon, 19% cabernet franc, 10% merlot and 3% petit verdot. Drink after 2023

Located in Knights Valley, Sonoma, the Les Pavots vineyard is located in the oldest of the estate-owned sites, planted in 1989. It is situated at 1,000-1,400 feet and is quite steep in areas. Composed of 68% Cabernet Sauvignon, 19% Cabernet Franc, 10% Merlot and 3% Petit Verdot, the 2018 Les Pavots is medium to deep garnet-purple in color. It needs a fair bit of coaxing to unlock the intense scents of blackcurrant preserves, ripe black plums and boysenberries with touches of wild sage, tobacco leaf and pencil shavings. The full-bodied palate is densely packed and tightly wound with loads of black fruits, dried herbs and earthy layers, supported by firm, grainy tannins and bold freshness, finishing long and energetic. 3,255 cases were made.

Extremely perfumed and floral with lavender, lilacs and violets to the sweet, ripe berries, such as blackberries and blackcurrants. Some slate and graphite, too. It’s full-bodied, yet ever so balanced and refined, with super fine tannins that last for minutes. Fresh herbs, such as bay leaf and lemon grass highlight the dark fruit. The quality of tannin is exquisite with wonderful polish and refinement. Lasts for minutes. So wonderful to taste now, but better after 2026.

Very deep garnet-purple in color, the 2018 Opus One soars out of the glass with bright, bold boysenberries, warm cassis and ripe, juicy black plums notes, plus emerging nuances of lilacs, oolong tea, cinnamon stick, tilled soil and black truffles. Medium to full-bodied, the palate is packed with tightly wound layers of crunchy black fruits, supported by firm, grainy tannins and fantastic freshness, finishing with lifted fruitiness and on a lingering mineral note.

The 2018 Opus One is incredibly elegant and polished, right out of the bottle. Silky tannins and lifted, perfumed aromatics add to an impression of finesse that distinguishes the 2018 from some of the preceding vintages in a pretty big way. It will be interesting to see if the 2018 gains body with a bit of time in bottle. It is pretty rare for Opus One to be so approachable at this stage.

Peter Michael’s Au Paradis vineyard is composed of the red, rocky, volcanic soils common to parts of Pritchard Hill, which makes sense since it is located in Oakville foothills, below Continuum and above Dalla Valle. Composed of 76% Cabernet Sauvignon, 13% Merlot and 11% Cabernet Franc, the medium to deep garnet-purple colored 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon Au Paradis sashays out of the glass with gorgeous notes of kirsch, cassis and redcurrant jelly, plus suggestions of garrigue, clove oil, lavender and spearmint with a touch of cast-iron pan. The medium to full-bodied palate is packed with bright, crunchy black fruit flavors, lifted by herbal and red fruit sparks and textured with firm, grainy tannins, finishing on a lingering ferrous note. 2,171 cases were made.

Coming from Oakville, the 2018 Au Paradis gives up a deep ruby/purple hue as well as full-bodied aromas and flavors of blackcurrants, green tobacco, lead pencil, sandalwood, and dried flowers. Flawlessly balanced, full-bodied, with silky yet present tannins, it's one of those elegant, seamless wines that surprise you with its richness and depth. It reminds me of a great vintage from Chateau Ducru Beaucaillou and is a brilliant, elegant, complex Cabernet that will evolve for two decades or more.

Fantastic length and structure to the wine, with tightness and focus. Wonderful fruit. Graceful. A blend of 78% cabernet sauvignon, 8% merlot, 7% petit verdot, 6% cabernet franc and 1% malbec. Try after 2028.

Winemaker Michael Silacci commented that usually the blends are finished in January or February after the vintage. This year, with the 2019s, he was still tweaking the blend, but he did mention that this is "pretty close to the final blend." Deep garnet-purple in color, the 2019 Opus One leaps from the glass with notes of Black Forest cake, Morello cherries, mulberries and fresh blackcurrants plus hints of licorice, wilted roses, Sichuan pepper and iron ore. Full-bodied, the palate is jam-packed with juicy black, blue and red fruits, framed by velvety tannins and background freshness, finishing on a compelling earthy/mineral note. Tasted as a barrel sample, this is a truly magnificent Opus One in the making!

The beautiful center-palate of fruit is so enticing and the finish goes on for minutes. Coolness at the end with blue fruit. Stunning really. Give it time, if you can keep your hands off it. 76% cabernet sauvignon, 16% cabernet franc, and 8% merlot. Best after 2025.

In 2009, Peter Michael purchased the former Showket Vineyard in Oakville, on the hillside below Continuum and above Dalla Valle. That is the source for the 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon Au Paradis, a blend of 76% Cabernet Sauvignon, 16% Cabernet Franc and 8% Merlot. Matured in 60% new French oak, it's a fairly forward, opulent wine, marked by scents of cigar box, tobacco, cassis, cherries and fine leather. Full-bodied, rich and velvety without being chocolaty or overdone, the lingering finish is—texturally—plush winter-weight flannel pajamas interwoven with complex, faintly herbal threads.

Der Cardinale ist ein Napa Valley Rotwein der zum Imperium der Jackson Familie zählt. Das besondere ist. dass das Weingut Cardinale zwar als Gebäude im Oakville District beheimatet ist. bei der Frucht für den späteren Top Wein Cardinale aber verschiedenen Weinberge genutzt werden. Für den Cardinale 2013 Proprietary Red Wine verwendet der begnadete Christopher Carpenter aus 10 verschiedenen Weinbergen Cabernet Sauvignon des Napa Valley welche dann 86% der finalen Blend repräsentieren. Und aus den Weinbergen des Howell Mountain Districts stammen 14% Merlot in der Blend für den Cardinale 2013. The 2013 Cardinale Proprietary Red Wine is dense purple-colored, a big, sweet kiss of crème de cassis as well as licorice, blackberry and espresso are all present in this full-bodied, rather sublime and intense Cabernet Sauvignon that should drink well for 25 or more years. This was aged in about 91% new French oak for 18-20 months prior to bottling. It is certainly one of the finest Cardinales I have tasted in my experience.

Im Herzen des berühmten roten Bodens des Oakville AVA im Napa Valley liegt 'Au Paradis' – genau dort, wo der Name übersetzt „Im Himmel“ bedeutet. Auf den sanft abfallenden Hügeln an der Ostseite des Tals, auf einem erhöhten Plateau, entwickeln sich die Bordeaux-Rebsorten zu einem klassischen Stil mit seidigen Tanninen und tiefen roten Früchten. Auf einer Höhe von 500 bis 600 Fuß blicken 26 Hektar mit Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc und Merlot auf das Tal hinab und hinüber zu den Mayacamas Mountains. Die Hanglage bietet ideale Sonneneinstrahlung während des Tages und fördert die Entwicklung der üppigen, intensiven Früchte, die man von solch einem prachtvollen Anwesen erwarten würde.

Zum 2021er Jahrgang:

Der Winter war trockener als im Durchschnitt, mit den letzten Regenfällen im März, gefolgt von gemäßigtem Wetter während der Blütezeit, was zu einem guten Fruchtansatz, aber sehr kleinen, konzentrierten Beeren führte. Insgesamt war 2021 ein mildes, gleichmäßiges Wachstumsjahr ohne größere Hitzeperioden und nur einem Tag über 100°F im August und September. Das ideale Wetter hielt bis zur Ernte an, die in der zweiten Septemberwoche begann und am 30. September endete. Eine wirklich außergewöhnliche Wachstumsperiode.

Ein reicher und geschmackvoller Rotwein mit vielen Aromen von Brombeeren, dunkler Schokolade, Jod, Orangenschale, Zitronenzeste, grünem Tabak und Kiefernnadeln. Mittelkräftig. Die Tannine sind zunächst offen, werden dann fein und poliert. Wunderschöne Länge und Konsistenz. 88 % Cabernet Sauvignon, 9 % Cabernet Franc und 3 % Merlot. Trinkreif nach 2028.

Der Cabernet Sauvignon Au Paradis 2021 ist eine Mischung aus 9 % Cabernet Franc und 3 % Merlot, und seine Aromen entfalten sich über mehrere Minuten im Glas. Likörartige Blaubeeren und eine Fülle von Cassis weichen Noten von Bresaola, gegrilltem Fleisch, bitterer Schokolade, Leder, Thymian und Salbei, bevor ein einzigartiges Crescendo aus reinem Veilchenduft folgt. Am Gaumen zeigt sich eine nahtlose Struktur, definiert durch geschmeidige, samtige Tannine und eine Frische, die die floralen Obernoten betont; hochkonzentrierte, detaillierte Frucht; Kräuter-, würzige und mineralische Aromen; und eine fantastische Länge. Der Cabernet Sauvignon Au Paradis 2021 ist schlichtweg erhaben. In diesem Jahr ist der Anteil an Cabernet Sauvignon (88 %) in der Mischung recht hoch, aber am meisten beeindruckt das atemberaubende Gleichgewicht und die edle Herkunft des Weins. Ein echter Volltreffer. Dies ist einer der besten Weine, die ich von Peter Michael verkostet habe.

So much earth and spice with walnut and wet earth. Like fog laying over the valley in the morning. Black fruit. Medium-to full-bodied with super-fine tannins that are long and persistent, with graceful progression and length on the palate. So long, with real definition. September 2022 release. From biodynamically grown grapes. Hard not to drink now, but will age wonderfully.

The 2019 Proprietary Red Wine is more open and effusive than the 2018 version, with gentle floral nuances set against a backdrop of black cherries and cassis, joined by subtle notes of tobacco, cedar and vanilla. In the mouth, it's medium to full-bodied, streamlined, silky and lush, nicely balanced and elegant, with a long, softly dusty finish tinged with licorice and caramel. Tasted twice, with consistent notes.

I was blown away by the 2019 Red Blend from Quintessa, which is up with the crème de la crème of the vintage. Based on Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot and Carmenère, this full-bodied beauty has a perfectly balanced, seamless, yet expansive and classic 2019 style as well as gorgeous aromatics of cassis, flowers, chalky minerality, and integrated oak. It’s hard to resist already, but I have no doubt this will evolve for 20 years if stored properly.

Favia Coombsville Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2021

Der Cabernet Sauvignon Oakville Napa Valley 2021 von Favia ist ein reiner Ausdruck dieser renommierten Weinregion. Es ist verständlich, warum Oakville zum am meisten geschätzten Teil des Napa Valley geworden ist (Robert Parker bezeichnete es als das „Filetstück“). Unsere Parzellen bei Oakville Ranch – hoch über dem östlichen Rand des Tals, organisch bewirtschaftet auf roten, felsigen, eisenreichen Böden – haben über viele Jahre hinweg einige der überzeugendsten Weine der Region hervorgebracht. Diese roten Hügel erstaunen uns Jahr für Jahr mit Weinen, die solche Kraft, Intensität und Charakterstärke zeigen.
Dieser reine Cabernet Sauvignon wurde sorgfältig fermentiert und mehr als zwanzig Tage auf den Schalen belassen, dann schonend gepresst und direkt ins Fass für die malolaktische Gärung gegeben. Der Wein reifte 22 Monate in 50 % französischen Eichenfässern, mit minimalem Umfüllen und ohne Schönung oder Filtration. Wir sind der Meinung, dass dieser zurückhaltende Ansatz bei der Élevage die beste Möglichkeit ist, den Fokus auf den Weinberg zu lenken.

Wie immer zeigt dieser Wein dunkle, düstere Noten von Brombeere, Cassis und sonnengetränktem Boden, zusammen mit feinen Anklängen von Gewürzen und Lorbeer. Am Gaumen ist der Einstieg schmal und präzise, doch fast sofort erweitert sich der Eindruck und wird mundfüllend und reichhaltig, was zu einem langen, kraftvollen Abgang führt. Die Tannine sind elegant, aber muskulös, was auf eine lange Lagerfähigkeit im Keller hinweist.

Dieser Wein ist voller Aromen von Graphit, schwarzen Beeren und schwarzen Johannisbeeren. Tief und dunkel. Mittel- bis vollmundig, mit saftigen und vielschichtigen Tanninen und einem geschmackvollen Abgang. Sehr traubenbetont. Präzise und fokussiert. Echter Coombsville-Charakter. Trinkbar und wird sich hervorragend weiterentwickeln.

Der Cabernet Sauvignon Coombsville 2021 präsentiert sich in tiefem granat-purpur und explodiert förmlich mit eindrucksvollen Noten von Crème de Cassis, eingemachten Schwarzkirschen und Boysenbeeren, die von Nuancen von Zedernholz, Graphit und Lavendelöl begleitet werden. Der vollmundige Gaumen ist vollgepackt mit intensiven Schichten von schwarzen und blauen Früchten, die von einer festen Linie körniger Tannine und erstaunlicher Spannung unterstützt werden. Der Abgang ist lang und von wunderbarer Reinheit geprägt.

Der Cabernet Sauvignon Coombsville 2021 ist ein reinsortiger Wein, der wie alle diese jüngsten 2021er in 50 % neuem französischem Eichenholz ausgebaut wurde. Er zeigt mehr blaue Frucht sowie einen vollmundigen, unglaublich vielschichtigen Stil in seinen kräftigen Aromen und Geschmacksnoten von Graphit, verbrannter Erde, Tabak und ausgeprägter Mineralität. Es ist ein großer, konzentrierter 2021er, der dennoch eine wunderschöne Frische und Balance bewahrt, was meiner Meinung nach diesen Jahrgang besonders auszeichnet. Wie beim La Magdalena ist dieser Wein nicht für diejenigen, die sofortige Befriedigung suchen, da er wahrscheinlich erst ein Jahrzehnt nach dem Jahrgang seine volle Reife erreichen wird. Ich wäre überrascht, wenn er nicht eine Gesamtlebensdauer von 30 Jahren hätte.
