Graceful in feel, this delivers cassis and bitter plum notes infused with bergamot and floral hints that all carry through a refined, mineral-tinged finish. A charming, understated wine. Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon. Drink now through 2030.

93 Punkte vom Wine Advocate für denLisa Perrotti Brown bewertet den Chateau Dalem 2018 Fronsac Subskription wie folgt:

A blend of 90% Merlot and 10% Cabernet Franc, the 2018 Dalem has a deep garnet-purple color and compelling notes of blackberry preserves, wild blueberries and ripe, juicy black plums, with hints of dark chocolate, licorice and black olives. The full-bodied palate (15% alcohol) appears bright and fresh with the lively black fruits framed by soft, velvety tannins, finishing long and savory. Nicely done!

92 Punkte vom Vinous-Team für denAntonio Galloni bewertet den Chateau Dalem 2018 Fronsac Subskription wie folgt:

The 2018 Dalem is quite backward on the nose, opening gradually to offer blackberry, licorice and very light menthol aromas; you just want to give the aromatics a polite kick up the backside. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins and a fine bead of acidity. Quite juicy in the mouth, delivering black cherries and cassis toward the well-defined, persistent finish. Excellent, but give it 24 months in bottle, because the nose needs time to find its mojo.

Dichter und satter Kern. frische intensiv fruchtige Nase. süssliche kleine Beeren. Schwarzkirsche. Im Mund satt mit guter Frucht. Schöne polierte Tannine, weich, frisch und sauberes Finale. Seit einigen Jahren nun ist der Dalem für uns die Benchmark in Fronsac, daran ändert auch der JG 2018 nichts.

The 2018 Fontenil retains its gorgeous bouquet of exuberant scents of red cherries and raspberry coulis and hints of honey and marmalade, beautifully defined and utterly seductive. The palate is very well balanced and focused, and fine tannins lend firm backbone and grip. This is a classy, vibrant, captivating Fontenil that should loosen up and drink well for 15–20 years. Deep garnet-purple in color, the 2018 La Vieille Cure opens with cedar chest, graphite and tree bark scents, giving way to a core of baked blackberries, stewed plums and cherry compote, with wafts of Sichuan pepper and star anise. The full-bodied palate (15% alcohol) is wearing a lot of oak at this stage, with a good core of baked black fruits and loads of exotic spice accents, supported by grainy tannins and just enough freshness, finishing woody. Give it a good 5 years for the oak to integrated and drink it over the next 12-15 years or more.

93 Punkte vom Vinous-Team für denNeal Martin bewertet den Chateau Sociando Mallet 2018 Haut Medoc wie folgt:

The 2018 Sociando Mallet, which comes wrapped in a resplendent 50th-anniversary label to celebrate the late Jean Gautreau’s acquisition of the estate, takes some time to really coalesce on the nose, eventually revealing boysenberry and mulberry scents and cedar and light earthy aromas. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins that belie the concentration of this Sociando-Mallet. Very cohesive, it delivers plenty of red fruit mixed with sous-bois and tobacco, though there is just a little more dryness on the finish than I was expecting. Give it 3–5 years in bottle if you can.

The 2016 Malescot Saint Exupéry is fabulous. Powerful and explosive on the palate. the 2016 offers serious intensity. but it also appears to be holding back quite a bit of its potential. Moreover. what impresses me most is that in 2016. intensity is delivered more with finesse than with the brutish power that is such a signature of Malescot. Deep and resonant. but also remarkably polished. the 2016 Malescot is a winner. The 2018 Meyney is every bit as impressive as it was en primeur. Technical Director Anne Le Naour has done a terrific job in reining in some of the excess weight and power of previous vintages, but without sacrificing richness. Classy and layered, Meyney boasts fabulous depth and tons of character. Ripe red/purplish fruit, spice, blood orange, smoke and incense are some of the many aromas and flavors that mesh together. The 2018 offers striking immediacy, but also has enough structure to develop well in bottle for 15-20 years, maybe more. The 2018 Meyney is a wine of immense pleasure. The palate is medium-bodied with fine density and wonderful salinity. There is tremendous precision with razor-sharp tannin. and a brightness on the finish that is exceptional. This is a Montrose that will comfortably sit alongside the canon of great vintages from this Saint-Estèphe estate. As my score implies. it’s up there with the first growths. Stunning.

Composed of 65% Cabernet Sauvignon. 30% Merlot. 4% Cabernet Franc and 1% Petit Verdot and matured in 60% new oak for 18 months. the 2016 Smith Haut Lafitte has a very deep garnet-purple color. opening with sensuous scents of warm black cherries. blackberry pie. star anise and fragrant lilacs with hints of chocolate box. cigar box and pencil lead plus wafts of truffles and crushed rocks. Medium to full-bodied. rich and seductive. it completely fills the palate with perfumed black berry preserves and superbly plush tannins. finishing epically long and beautifully layered.

The 2016 Smith Haut Lafitte is flat out stunning. Rich. ample and explosive. the 2016 possesses tremendous energy and tension to play off the wine's dark. rich fruit. I am not sure I have ever tasted a young Smith Haut Lafitte with such extraordinary balance. In 2016. the Grand Vin is tense and pulsing with energy. Hints of lavender. spice. menthol and crème de cassis open up in the glass. but the 2016 stands out for its feel and exceptional harmony. The combined effects of picking a bit early. vinifiying more gently and reducing the impact of oak are having a profound effect at Smith Haut Lafitte. Thinking of some of the highly regarded wines of the last decade here. the 2009 and 2010 in particular. well. the 2016 is on another level. This is magnificent showing from proprietors Florence and Daniel Cathiard. and their team led by Technical Director Fabien Teitgen.

The blackcurrant and blueberry aromas are lifted and beautiful. Lots of flowers. too. together with some mushroom and dried-flower undertones. Full-bodied with firm and very silky tannins giving a lovely texture. Bright acidity lifts the finish and gives it drive and force. Better after 2025.

The 2016 Pape Clément is fabulous. Racy and sumptuous in the glass. the 2016 captures the style that now characterizes Bernard Magrez's wines from his estate in Pessac. Specifically. the 2016 is wonderfully deep in the glass. and yet retains terrific freshness as well. A rush of dark cherry. plum. smoke. scorched earth. grilled herb. leather and menthol builds as the 2016 shows off its compelling. inviting personality. I would prefer to give the 2016 at least a few years in bottle to allow its full breadth of aromatics to develop. Even so. there is so much to like. Pliant. supple and super-expressive. It is perhaps a little more opulent than its peers. but unlike in the past. I don’t find it excessive. The palate is well balanced with supple tannin. There is a killer line of acidity and real panache toward a velvety. almost Pauillac-like finish armed with shimmering black fruit laced with graphite.

The 2018 Tour Saint Christophe represents a new level of elegance, precision and finesse for this estate in Saint-Émilion's Saint-Christophe-des-Bardes district. Silky and exceptionally polished, the 2018 oozes class. Moreover, the heavy extraction and strong torrefaction notes that marked previous vintages of the recent past have been replaced by beautifully precise, vibrant fruit. Tour Saint Christophe is one of best values in Saint-Émilion. I haven't always loved Tour Saint Christoph, but I love the 2018. 97 Sucklingpunkte für denJames Suckling bewertet den Chateau Larcis Ducasse 2018 Saint Emilion wie folgt:

Polished aromas of lavender, plum, dried blueberry, clove, sandalwood and dark chocolate. Hints of praline. It’s full-bodied with firm, tightly knit tannins. Supple, seamless layers with great length and precision. Still reserved and tight. A toned and textured red with great structure. Try from 2026.

The 2018 Château Larcis Ducasse checks in as 89% Merlot and 11% Cabernet Franc that comes from a gorgeous hillside terroir on the Côte Pavie, located between Château Pavie and Château Bellefont-Belcier. Aged 18 months in 60% new barrels, it offers a truly sensational bouquet of ripe blackcurrants, espresso roast, scorched earth, bloody meat, chocolate, iron, and bouquet garni. A massive, super-rich Saint-Emilion with a dense, concentrated, layered mouthfeel, it has building yet sweet tannins and incredible purity of fruit. Reminding me of the 2005 shortly after release, this heavenly juice offers astonishing richness and depth while staying flawlessly balanced and elegant. Sadly, there are less than 3,000 cases produced, but this monumental, legendary wine won't hit maturity for a good 8-10 years and will have 40-50 years of longevity if well stored. Hats off to Nicolas Thienpont and consultant Stéphane Derenoncourt for producing one of the wines of the vintage as well as one of the greatest young Bordeaux I've ever tasted.

96 Punkte vom Wine Advocate für denLisa Perrotti Brown bewertet den Chateau Larcis Ducasse 2018 Saint Emilion wie folgt:

Deep garnet-purple in color, the 2018 Larcis Ducasse needs a fair bit of swirling to unlock notes of crushed blackberries, plum preserves and boysenberries with suggestions of black truffles, tapenade and crushed rocks coming through, building to a subtle underlying perfume of roses and cloves. The medium to full-bodied palate delivers mouth-coating black fruits and loads of savory sparks, framed by firm, slightly chewy tannins and just enough freshness, finishing long and earthy.

97 Punkte vom Vinous-Team für denAntonio Galloni bewertet den Chateau Larcis Ducasse 2018 Saint Emilion wie folgt:

The 2018 Larcis Ducasse is one of the real overachievers of the vintage. Richness and classicism meld together in a Saint-Émilion that dazzles from the very first taste. Rich dark fruit, mocha, licorice, espresso and leather all open in the glass. Time brings out bright acids and that firm spice of Larcis tannin. More than that, though, Larcis impresses with its exquisite balance and class. It is easily one of the most undervalued wines on the Right Bank. Don't let its modest price fool you. Larcis is one the most compelling wines of the vintage. Don't miss it!

Violets, blackcurrants, cloves, tobacco, orange zest and dark chocolate on the nose. It’s medium-to full-bodied with firm, silky tannins and fresh acidity. Sleek and refined with elegant floral and spice notes on a long finish. Interesting hint of bitterness at the end. Try from 2025.

96 Punkte vom Wine Spectator für denJames Mothels bewertet den Chateau Pavie Macquin 2018 Saint Emilion wie folgt:

Sleek, pure, aromatic and streamlined version, with lovely cassis, cherry puree, violet and mesquite notes tightly wound together, while anise and savory hints peek in. Long finish is carried by chalky minerality. A wine of poise. Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon. Best from 2024 through 2037. 5,500 cases made.

97 Punkte vom Wine Advocate für denLisa Perrotti Brown bewertet den Chateau Pavie Macquin 2018 Saint Emilion wie folgt:

The 2018 Pavie Macquin is a blend of 78% Merlot, 20% Cabernet Franc and 2% Cabernet Sauvignon. Medium to deep garnet-purple colored, it slowly, sensuously unfurls to reveal a gorgeous perfume of Black Forest cake, Morello cherries, baked plums and violets, with nuances of licorice, Indian spices and fertile loam. Medium to full-bodied, the palate has achingly plush tannins and fantastic freshness framing the spicy black fruit and mineral layers, finishing long and so, so fragrant. Wow—just stunning!

96 Punkte vom Vinous-Team für denAntonio Galloni bewertet den Chateau Pavie Macquin 2018 Saint Emilion wie folgt:

The 2018 Pavie Macquin was impressive out of barrel. It has retained its opulent bouquet, perhaps becoming even more luxuriant and plush, offering copious black cherries, cassis and violet aromas and hints of vanilla pod and iodine in the background. The palate is where this really impresses, because its opulence is effortlessly counterbalanced by a bead of acidity that imparts freshness and tension. This is a multilayered Pavie-Macquin endowed with tremendous length on the aftertaste. Even after 60 seconds I can still feel this Saint-Émilion lapping upon my senses. Superb.

Very intense blackberries, black olives, blueberries and dried flowers. Stony minerality. Even some pine. Full-bodied with superb depth of fruit and ultra fine tannins that are intense and polished. The finish is so long and delivers so much flavor, from wet earth to blackberry again. Seamless palate. Try after 2026.

98 Punkte vom Wine Advocate für denLisa Perrotti Brown bewertet den Chateau Belair Monange 2018 Saint Emilion wie folgt:

Made from 90% Merlot and 10% Cabernet Franc, the medium to deep garnet-purple colored 2018 Belair Monange rolls effortlessly out of the glass with gregarious scents of black cherry preserves, stewed plums and boysenberries, plus suggestions of Indian spices, rose oil, Ceylon tea and garrigue, with a waft of tilled soil. The rich, seductive, full-bodied palate is laden with black fruit preserves and exotic spice layers, framed by velvety tannins and seamless freshness, finishing long and fragrant. Wonderfully hedonic and conceivably drinkable now, give it 4-5 years in the cellar to allow the earthy/savory nuances to fully emerge from within the fruit and drink it over the next 25 years or more.

Chateau Figeac 2016 mit 97+ Parker Punkten bewertetLisa Perrotti Brown 30. November 2018

The 2016 Figeac is comprised of 38% Cabernet Sauvignon. 36% Merlot and 26% Cabernet Franc. Deep garnet-purple colored. the nose is a little broody and reticent at this very youthful stage. slowly unfolding to reveal profound plum preserves. crème de cassis. black raspberries and star anise with hints of moss-covered bark. truffles and tilled loam plus a waft of red currants and raspberry leaves sparks. Medium to full-bodied. the palate is practically quivering with energy. offering glimpses at tightly wound black fruit and mineral/ferrous layers. framed by very firm. ripe tannins and wonderful tension. finishing long with the spices coming through. This will need a good 7-8 years to come round and then should cellar for 40+ years. Very serious. beautifully poised and sophisticated personality this vintage.

“There was a little more water stress in 2016 than in 2018.” Frédéric Faye mentioned. “The cooler nights here helped us to avoid too much water stress this year. We are not de-leafing a lot now—just on one side to expose the grapes to the morning sun. but we do not de-leaf on the afternoon sun side. where it can get very hot.” Figeac continues along its upward trajectory in terms of heights of greatness and consistency. Faye has adeptly managed to maintain the energy in the wines that is a signature of Figeac while revealing more layers. polishing the tannins and. ultimately. offering slightly more muscle to the fruit core. Once his considerable efforts in the vineyards really kick in and the new winery is completed. I am incredibly excited to see what the future holds for this historic. truly special place.

98+ Punkte bei Vinous für den Chateau Figeac 2016 Saint EmilionAntonio Galloni Januar 2019:

The 2016 Figeac is simply extraordinary. A wine of pure energy and vitality. the 2016 pulses with a real sense of drive. Lavender. mint. crème de cassis and cedar start to develop in the glass. but what is most remarkable about the 2016 is its total sense of harmony. There is natural tension. a sort of push and pull. between the wine's intense fruit and structural underpinnings that makes the 2016 a marvel to taste and contemplate. It was positively stunning in two separate tastings. Technical Director Frédéric Faye and his team made an epic Figeac in 2016.

Chateau Canon 2016 mit 98+ Punkten bei Robert ParkerLisa Perrotti Brown 30. November 2018

Composed of 74% Merlot and 26% Cabernet Franc and aged for 18 months in 70% new French barriques. the 2016 Canon is medium to deep garnet-purple in color. and—WOW—it opens with the most stunning perfume of violets. red roses and kirsch. giving way to a core of black cherry preserves. chocolate box. licorice. warm plums and Chinese five spice plus an earthy waft of underbrush. Medium to full-bodied. the palate is completely filled with expressive. perfumed black berry layers accented by lively red fruits and exotic spices. supported by impressively fine-grained tannins and fantastic tension. finishing very long with jaw-dropping energy. Tasted three times. I had one opportunity to taste the 2015 and 2016 Canon side by side. While I love the bold. rich. seductive nature of the 2015. this 2016 kicks it up a notch in terms of polish. precision. depth and persistence. Most notably. the superbly ripe. exquisitely fine-grained tannins on this 2016 bring to the table a whole other level of sophistication. Bravo!

97 Punkte vom Vinous-Team für den Chateau Canon 2016 Saint EmilionNeal Martin Verkostungsnotiz aus Januar 2019:

The 2016 Canon has the unenviable task of following the astonishing 2015. and it does a damn good job. even if it doesn’t reach the same ethereal heights. There is a pleasing strictness and poise on the nose; this is less immediate than the 2015. yet intellectual. a Canon that expresses its terroir rather than tons of fruit. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannin. a fine bead of acidity. a smooth texture and a slightly savory but persistent finish. which feels a little plusher than the 2015. implying that this might drink a little earlier. But there is unquestionably immense breeding locked into this rejuvenated Saint-Émilion. which is now firmly ensconced among the top-flight Right Banks.

97 Sucklingpunkte für den Chateau Canon 2016 Saint EmilionJames Suckling im Februar 2019:

Complex aromas of blackberries. iodine. oyster shell and wet earth. Ever so perfumed. Full-bodied. yet reserved and tight with very silky tannins that are energized and minerally. Takes off at the end. The freshness lifts it. Try after 2024.
