The 2018 Gloria is a blend of 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 32% Merlot, 5% Petit Verdot and 3% Cabernet Franc, aged for approximately 14 months in oak barriques, 40% new. Medium to deep garnet-purple colored, it sashays out of the glass with flamboyant notes of kirsch, black raspberries and cassis, plus hints of potpourri, unsmoked cigars and star anise. The medium to full-bodied palate delivers a good amount of juicy black and red fruit flavors, backed up by slightly chewy tannins and just enough freshness, finishing spicy

NEAL MARTIN im März 2021:

Gloria is once again fabulous. Brisk and vibrant. the 2018 has so much to offer. The 2018 is a bit more linear than other recent vintages (such as the 2016) but it nevertheless has a lot to offer. Bright red cherry. cedar. tobacco. spice and floral notes pulse with tremendous energy. The tannins need a few years in bottle to unwind. but there is so much to look forward to. The blend is 60% Cabernet Sauvignon. 32% Merlot. 5% Petit Verdot and 3% Cabernet Franc. Tasted four times.

93 Punkte vom Vinous-Team für den Chateau Gloria 2018 Saint JulienAntonio Galloni im März 2021:

The 2018 Gloria has turned out beautifully. Medium in body, with terrific balance and tons of class, Gloria will especially appeal to readers in search of a wine that is not super-exuberant, as so many 2018s are. Bright floral notes, blood orange and red berry fruit all run through this wonderfully expressive Saint-Julien. Give the tannins at least a few years to soften.

The 2016 Ducru-Beaucaillou. bottled in August 2018. is very deep in color. It has a tightly wound bouquet of blackberry. boysenberry and minerals and a faint estuarine tang of oyster shells. The palate is medium-bodied with very fine tannin. layers of pure blackberry and wild strawberry. and veins of blue fruit tinged with a conspicuous graphite note that becomes more pronounced with aeration. This is almost a Pauillac-like Ducru-Beaucaillou. quite noble and blue-blooded. A wine that should give 40 to 50 years of drinking pleasure.

Hints of leather. smoke. tobacco and dried flowers begin to open up in the glass. but the 2016 is quite reticent at this stage. In two tastings I found the 2016 unusually closed. The 2016 Talbot is aromatically quite expressive. but less available on the palate. where it is quite closed down. Time in the glass brings out a host of sweet tobacco. smoke. leather. cedar. mint. licorice and red-toned fruit. In two tastings. Talbot gave the impression it is going to need at least a few years to fully come into its own. Even so there is plenty to look forward to once the tannins start to melt away a bit. Consultants Stéphane Derenoncourt and Julien Lavenu have done quite a bit to raise the bar here. but I get a sense more is possible. Tasted two times.

The 2016 Léoville Las Cases is a majestic. seamless. opulent wine. Yes. I am talking about Las Cases. traditionally one of the Left Bank's most austere. forbiddingly tannic wines. Sumptuous and full-bodied. the 2016 takes over all the senses. with seemingly endless layers of inky. purplish fruit. Mint. lavender and white flowers are some of the many notes that emerge from the exotic. arrestingly beautiful bouquet as the 2016 makes its case for consideration as one of the wines of the vintage. The 2016 got an extra three months in barrel and was therefore bottled on the later side. but that does not appear to have done anything to close the wine down. The 2016 was magnificent on both occasions I tasted it. Put simply. the 2016 Las Cases is a total stunner. Don't miss it!

Medium to full-bodied. the palate is packed with tightly knit. very subtle layers of minerals. floral notions and black and red berries. all framed by exquisitely ripe. silt-like tannins and fantastic freshness. finishing with epic length and depth. The 2016 Léoville Las-Cases underwent three more months in barrel than usual. and was bottled in September 2018. It has an extremely intense bouquet that manages to retain otherworldly delineation. It is not as expressive as its peers at this early stage (but then again. it rarely is). Yet there is palpable coiled-up energy on the nose. and you can feel the mineralité. The palate is medium-bodied with super-fine tannin and layers of pure black and blue fruit laced with allspice and a pinch of white pepper. It fans out wonderfully on the finish. which exerts fine grip but never overwhelms. This is undoubtedly one of the best wines ever made by the estate. Close to perfection.

With loads of minerality. a terrific opaque purple color. and slightly more structure and tannin than either Poyferre or St.-Pierre (and that’s saying something). this is a blockbuster. fabulous Ducru Beaucaillou that should be at its best a good decade from now and last 40-50 years. The proprietor is not alone in thinking this is the finest Ducru Beaucaillou since the 1961. The classic wet rock. creme de cassis. subtle oak and gravelly stoniness of the vineyard come through in this spectacular. full-bodied. gorgeously pure and intense effort. This is wine for the ages that should be forgotten for at least a decade.

Proprietor Bruno Borie thinks this wine is as superb as their 2009. Slightly more structured and less flamboyant than its older sibling. it is a blend of 90% Cabernet Sauvignon and 10% Merlot from the very best parcels of the vineyard. This wine tips the scales at 14% natural alcohol but has a normal pH of 3.6. which is one of the characteristics of this vintage (high alcohol. normal pH). which thus accounts for the freshness and precision found in most 2010s.

100 Sucklingpunkte für den Ducru Beaucaillou 2010

The nose is phenomenal with perfect aromas of Cabernet Sauvignon with currant bush. blackberries and minerals. A pure expression of Cab. The palate is perfect with a full body. but has perfectly integrated tannins with a texture like the finest cashmere. It's strong but noble with perfect form and beauty. All in harmony. A fabulous wine that everyone who loves Bordeaux should have a bottle or case of. Better in 2020.

Fabulous aromas of crushed berries such as blackberries and blackcurrants. not to mention spices. Wet earth and cedar. too. Complex. Full-bodied. yet agile and complete. A dense center palate. Ultra-round tannins. Everything in the right balance. Wonderful to taste but better to drink in 2022.

James Mothels bewertet den Chateau Ducru Beaucaillou im Januar 2017 wie folgt:
Opulent. with layers of warmed fig. boysenberry and blackberry confiture that loll along. yet are kept going by a terrific graphite note that is well-buried throughout. Alluring black tea. singed
mesquite and bittersweet cocoa accents add to the panache. A head-turner. Best from 2020 through 2040. From France .—J.M.

Neal Martin bewertet den Chateau Ducru Beaucaillou im März 2017 wie folgt:
The 2014 Ducru Beaucaillou showed extremely well when I tasted it with Bruno Borie during en primeur. Now in bottle. it delivers on that promise with beautifully defined blackberry and raspberry fruit infused with cedar and pencil box aromas. Quintessentially Saint Julien. The palate is very well defined with fine tannin. pitch-perfect acidity. a palpable sense of energy and frisson from start to finish that delivers plenty of tobacco-infused fruit. It is not the perfection-flirting legend that I have read elsewhere; it is just a damn good Saint Julien that is going to drink beautifully over the next 25 to 30 years.

Chateau Ducru Beaucaillou 2015 mit 98 Punkten bei VinousAntonio Galloni bewertet den Ducru Beaucaillou 2015 wie folgt:

The 2015 Ducru-Beaucaillou is phenomenally great. Inky. powerful and explosive. the 2015 pulses with energy in all of its dimensions. Creme de cassis. blackberry jam. graphite. smoke. leather and incense. along with the wine's muscular tannins. convey an impression of brooding intensity. The 2015 has been nothing short of sensational on the two occasions I have tasted it so far. Readers should be prepared to be patient. Don't miss it!
