JG 2018 in der Magnum

Haut Tropchaud 2018 Pomerol
100% Merlot gewachsen auf 2 Ha in unmittelbarer Sichtweite zu Le Pin und Vieux Chateau Certan. Mittlere bis volle Dichte. im Kern schwarz. schöne satte Frucht in der Nase. sehr feine Kirsche. auch hier wurde der Neuholzanteil zurückgefahren. trotzdem findet man diese zart süsslichen Anklänge wieder. Am Gaumen mit Kühle. sehr gute Harmonie keine Spur von Hitze. polierte Tannine. wieder diese unglaublich mineralische Frische. die nur dieses Terroir im Pomerol bieten kann. Würde man in die Wertung das Preis-Leistungsverhältnis einfliessen lassen. so müsste man deutlich höher punkten.

So ist und bleibt Haut Tropchaud 2018 auch in diesem herausfordernden JG eines der unglaublichsten Schnäppchen.

There’s a striking sense of deeply ripe plums on the nose. as well as notes of forest wood. black truffle. wet earth and sous bois. The palate has regal tannin shape and texture. Quite powerful but supple. the tannins carry long and fresh with ripe dark-plum flavors. Try from 2022.

The 2017 Certan de May is a powerful. dense wine. Graphite. smoke. grilled herbs and dark red and purplish fruit confer a real sense of gravitas that also comes through in the wine's unctuous fruit and overall richness. The 2017 packs a serious punch. that is for sure. Although not the last word in finesse. Certan de May offers plenty of richness and body. It is one of the bigger Pomerols of the year. I would give the 2017 a few years in bottle to allow the tannins to soften.

The 2017 Certan de May is a blend of 60% Merlot. 35% Cabernet Franc and 5% Cabernet Sauvignon. Deep garnet-purple in color. the wine charges out of the gate with bold expressions of preserved plums. blueberry compote and redcurrant jelly plus nuances of pencil shavings. forest floor and truffles. Medium-bodied. the palate delivers elegantly played black fruits and earthy accents with a lovely frame of fine-grained tannins and seamless freshness. finishing with a quiet intensity.

Vieux Chateau Certan 2017 Pomerol

Possibly the wine of the vintage
The 2017 Vieux Chateau Certan is a blend of 81% Merlot, 14% Cabernet Franc and 5% Cabernet Sauvignon from the highest point on the Pomerol plateau. Deep purple, with a heavenly bouquet of creme de cassis, blueberries, scorched earth, crushed violets, tobacco, and earth, this beauty is full-bodied, has incredible depth of fruit, ripe, present tannins, integrated acidity, and a great finish. This estate has been on fire of late, and this is undoubtedly a worthy follow-on to the otherworldly 2015 and 2016. It has the depth of fruit and texture to offer pleasure even today, yet a solid 7-8 years of cellaring are warranted, and it should be long-lived. Bravo!

No mincing about. the bouquet absolutely prances out of the glass with stunning scents of candied violets. chocolate-covered cherries. roses and eucalyptus over a core of black plum preserves. mulberries. black raspberries and blueberry pie plus wafts of licorice. iron ore and truffles. Medium to full-bodied. the palate has fantastic balance and expression. with very fine-grained. silt-like tannins and well-knit freshness. finishing with epic length and perfume.

The tannins are so polished and pure and push out the edges on the wine. Fresh and pretty. Deep. Needs two or three years to perfect it. Try after 2023.

Für mich bietet der La Faurie das Ideal an Trinkgenuss. Auch in dem Jahrgang 2020 ist das nicht anders. Es ist schon sehr beachtlich wie konstant dieser Wein zu überzeugen weiss. Sie erhalten hier einen Merlot dominierten Wein aus der Lalande de Pomerol. I love its tannins, and it shows the pure, balanced style of 2019 in Pomerol perfectly. It will benefit from just 2-3 years of bottle age and drink brilliantly for 15-20 years. It's another outstanding wine from this château.

All of the power that is typical of this site is evident. it seems to come so naturally. and yet picking earlier and then using a lighter hand in the cellar yielded a Troplong of uncommon energy and vibrancy. The 2017 has been nothing short of thrilling on the four occasions I have tasted it from bottle so far. What a wine!
