Whether that is the vintage speaking or a slight change in style, we will see.

The 2019 Malartic Lagravière was picked from 17 September to 11 October at 46hl/ha and sees 65% new French oak for an intended 18 months. It has a lovely bouquet with disarming blackberry. briary and subtle marine scents. just a whiff of brine in the background from the distant Gironde estuary. The palate is medium-bodied with extremely fine tannins that frame the layers of blackberry. raspberry and orange rind notes. Satin-like in texture. this feels reassuringly long in the mouth with a dab of white pepper on the aftertaste. What an outstanding Malartic from the Bonnie family. Tasted from three bottles.

The 2016 Le C des Carmes Haut-Brion comes from vines located in the clos over towards Martillac, rather than the vines in the original Les Carmes Haut-Brion vineyard in the Bordeaux suburbs, known as "Le Clos des Carmes Haut-Brion" up until the 2013 vintage. It is a blend of 51% Merlot, 48% Cabernet Sauvigon and 1% Petit Verdot, matured in 30% new oak and the remainder one year old barrels. This includes 25% whole berry fruit. It offers plenty of brambly black fruit on the nose, crushed violets, fresh fig and a touch of spice that opens nicely in the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannin, neatly integrated oak, a little plushness on the entry thanks to the Merlot, and then it dovetails into a more structured, gently grippy, chalk-textured finish with attractive black fruit. Give this two or three years in bottle just to shave off a little abrasiveness and you will have a fine Pessac-Léognan.

The purity and finesse are truly something here, and while it already offers pleasure, it deserves 4-5 years of bottle age and will evolve for 20+ years.

The 2019 Calon Ségur is a wine of soaring vertical intensity and pure power. That's the good news. The not so good news is that it won't be ready to drink any time soon. Exotic spice, pencil shavings, crème de cassis, mocha and licorice are some of the nuances that develop in the glass, but those descriptions can't even begin to capture the sheer beauty of what is in the glass. I loved the 2019 from barrel and I love it just as much from bottle.

The 2019 Calon-Ségur, bottled in July 2021, has an alluring, very floral bouquet, the earlier crushed violet scents seemingly accentuated during the élevage. This is a superb wine from Vincent Millet and his team.

Elegant und raffiniert, ist die Cuvée Brut Réserve der Champagner für alle Gelegenheiten.

Der strohgelbe und feinperlige Pol Roger Brut Réserve ist in der Nase intensiv und verströmt zunächst fruchtige Aromen von Birne und Mango, die schnellergänzt werden von Geißblatt und weißem Jasmin, begleitet auch von Vanille- und Brioche-Noten. Hinter einem offenen und dynamischen Auftakt zeigt der Wein eine schöne Harmonie und eine angenehme Frische, wobei er eine gewisse Struktur bewahrt. Am Gaumen mischen sich Aromen von gekochten Früchten (Quittengelee, Aprikosenmarmelade) mit Düften von Bienenwachs und Akazienhonig. Roederer's newly released 2015 Brut Vintage is a strong effort, offering up aromas of freshly baked bread, citrus oil, pastry cream, dried white flowers and verbena, followed by a medium to full-bodied, fleshy and pillowy palate framed by bright acids and concluding with chalky grip. This can't quite match the tension or plenitude of fruit of the last few releases, but it is a lovely Champagne. It's a blend of Pinot Noir from Verzy and Chardonnay from Chouilly.

Pol Roger's 2015 Brut Vintage is generous and demonstrative, bursting with aromas of golden orchard fruit, nectarine, warm bread, buttered popcorn and orange oil. Full-bodied, broad and vinous, it's rich and fleshy, with a sweet, layered core of fruit, racy acids and a pretty pinpoint mousse. Stylistically, the 2015 has more in common with the richness and concentration of 2012 than the chiseled raciness of 2013. It's a beautiful bottle in the making.

Die Cuvée: Die Cuvée Pol Roger Brut Vintage 2015 ist ein Champagner aus der traditionellen Assemblage des Hauses Pol Roger: 60% Pinot Noir, 40% Chardonnay aus 20 Grands und Premiers Crus der Montagne de Reims und der Côte des Blancs. Die in begrenzter Menge hergestellte Cuvée Pol Roger Brut Vintage 2015 reifte in den hauseigenen Kellern.

Vinifizierung & Reifung: Nach der Ernte werden die Trauben schnell und schonend gepresst. Eine erste Vorklärung erfolgt im Kelterzentrum, eine zweite im Gärkellerei bei kühlen Temperaturen (6°C) für 24 Stunden. Die alkoholische Gärung findet bei niedrigen Temperaturen (18°C) in temperaturgesteuerten Edelstahltanks statt, in denen die Rebsorten und Lagen vor der endgültigen Assemblage getrennt vinifiziert werden. Die malolaktische Gärung wird bei allen Weinen des Hauses durchgeführt. Nach der Verkostung, der Assemblage und der Flaschenabfüllung erfolgen die die Reifung in der Kühle der Keller in 33 Metern Tiefe. Jede Flasche wird vor dem Degorgieren und der Dosage auf traditionelle Weise von Hand gerüttelt. Danach ruhen die Weine mindestens drei Monate, bevor sie in den Handel kommen.

Verkostungsnotiz des Hauses Pol Roger: Der Brut Vintage 2015 hat eine schöne goldene Farbe mit silbernen Reflexen. Die erste Nase ist subtil und öffnet sich mit Noten von fleischigen Früchten (Pfirsich, Mirabelle), die sich mit luftigen Anklängen von Rosenblättern vermischen. Sie ist ausdrucksstark und frisch und erinnert an Backwaren, Gebäck und Trockenfrüchte. Dann entwickelt er sich weiter und enthüllt Aromen von Honig und Apfelgelee. Am Gaumen ist er rund und elegant. Ein Hauch von Zesten veredelt die Noten von Brioche, Gebäck und Röstaromen in Verbindung mit Süßholz und Trockenfrüchten. Die seidige Textur wird von einer anhaltenden Lebendigkeit bis zum Abgang begleitet. Der Jahrgang 2015 zeichnet einen warmen Champagner mit großer Finesse aus.
