It’s extremely long, polished and sophisticated. Needs time to come together, but expressive and glorious. Fantastic relative value. 80% merlot and 20% cabernet franc. Drink after 2025.

TThis estate has been delivering the goods for numerous vintages now, and the 2019 Château Tour Saint Christophe is another terrific wine. Ripe black cherries, black raspberries, graphite, new leather, and chalky minerality all define the nose, and it's medium to full-bodied, has a tight, straight, focused texture, ripe yet present tannins, and outstanding length. It doesn't have the mid-palate density or opulence of the 2018, but it’s more pretty, focused, and straight on the palate. Give bottles 4-5 years and enjoy over the following two decades.

The 2019 Tour Saint Christophe builds on the promise it showed from barrel. This sample was actually tasted at my home, where I afforded it a two-hour decant. It revealed precocious yet controlled blackberry and blueberry fruit scents, with that violet component still intact. The tannins have not lost any of their grippiness or assertiveness. This is a Saint-Émilion that is in for the long haul. Great potential.

The 2019 Tour Saint Christophe was picked from 27 September until 15 October at 37hl/ha. Matured in 40% new oak. this has an incredibly concentrated bouquet that needs to shrug off a little reduction when I taste it. Layers of blackberry and blueberry. wilted violets and orange rind burst from the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with juicy ripe grippy tannins that frame the layers of dense black fruit tinged with allspice and graphite. It is a Saint-Émilion clearly built for the long-term. powerful and uncompromising. perhaps one that will be in need of cellaring for several years before it becomes approachable.

Tour Saint Christophe is one of best values in Saint-Émilion. I haven't always loved Tour Saint Christoph, but I love the 2018. It's a fabulous effort from Technical Director Jérôme Aguirre and his team. Don't miss it.

Based on 80% Merlot and 20% Cabernet Franc raised in 40% new barrels (the balance is in second- and third-fill oak), it offers a full-bodied, incredibly pure, balanced style revealing subtle oak, terrific darker, almost blue fruits, lots of chocolate, leafy herb and mineral nuances, and gorgeous tannins. It's worth pointing out that this will be the last vintage made by the talented Jérôme Aguirre. This terrific Saint-Emilion will evolve for two decades.

In the past, this wine has had a glossy, slightly modern style (in a good sense), but the 2019 has an incredibly classic feel with its oak nicely integrated and just a liquid rock-like minerality on the finish. Poesia is a big, explosive Saint-Émilion, but it also possesses tremendous energy. Dark fruit, gravel, incense, spice and saddle leather open with a bit of coaxing. There is an exotic quality to Poesia in 2019 that is especially alluring. Brilliant.

The 2019 Larcis Ducasse is magnificent. Deep and beautifully layered, the 2019 offers tons of youthful resonance wrapped into a super-classic frame. There is a feeling of translucence here that is so beguiling. Sweet dark cherry, tobacco, cedar, menthol and dried flowers are some of the many aromas and flavors that take shape over time. Regal and refined, with an elegant, polished finish, Larcis is magnificent in 2019. Aging in equal parts barrique and 500L tonneaux (which are rare in Bordeaux) helps preserve vibrancy. Larcis Ducasse might be the single most under the radar wine in all of Bordeaux!

The 2019 Larcis Ducasse has turned out beautifully, wafting from the glass with aromas of cherries, wild berries, burning embers, spices and licorice. Full-bodied, sumptuous and enveloping, with a fleshy core of fruit, ripe tannins and succulent acids, it's a giving, generous wine that's softer and rounder than Pavie Macquin, its stablemate. This beautiful vineyard, managed by Nicolas Thienpont, is located on the limestone slopes of Saint-Émilion, sandwiched between Pavie and Bellefont-Belcier.

It's handled its élevage nicely and has just subtle vanilla and spicy oak notes as well as impressive red, black, and blue fruits intermixed with notes of acacia flowers, spice box, forest floor, and tobacco. Tighter and more backward from bottle than barrel, it's medium to full-bodied and has a balanced, elegant texture, beautiful tannins, and a great finish. It needs 3-5 years of bottle age and should have two decades of overall longevity.

Die im Durchschnitt 30 Jahre alten Reben stehen auf dem Kalksteinplateau der Cote Pavie mit Lehmauflage. So ist es auch zu erklären. dass die Trauben in diesem warmen und sonnenreichen Jahrgang genügend Frische und feingliedrige Frucht aufweisen. Hier ist alles am rechten Fleck. ein grosser Genusswert aus dem Saint Emilion.

Château Peymouton ist Teil des Anwesens von Château Laroque, einem historischen Grand Cru Classé von Saint-Émilion, das nur 3,5 km östlich des mittelalterlichen Dorfes liegt.

Château Laroque, eines der größten Anwesen der Appellation, stammt aus dem 12. Jahrhundert. Château Peymouton liegt auf einem Hochplateau des Anwesens (80-100 Meter über dem Meeresspiegel), das teilweise aus einer dünnen Schicht reichen Tons über Kalkstein und teilweise aus tiefem, dickem rotem Ton besteht. Diese Böden verleihen dem Wein Dichte und Struktur, der jedoch die Eleganz des Kalksteins bewahrt.

Château Peymouton wird von demselben Team geführt und genießt die gleiche Sorgfalt und Aufmerksamkeit wie Château Laroque. Die Weinlese erfolgt nach der individuellen Reife der einzelnen Parzellen und der Wein wird schonend vinifiziert, wobei besondere Sorgfalt auf den Ausdruck frischer Frucht gelegt wird.

From a beautifully situated hillside vineyard, sandwiched between Larcis Ducasse and Tertre Roteboeuf on either side, with holdings belonging to Pavie and Troplong Mondot on the plateau above, the 2019 Bellefont Belcier has turned out very well indeed. Offering up aromas of smoky berry fruit, loamy soil, subtle spices, black truffle and violets, it's full-bodied, velvety and seamless, with a vibrant, enveloping profile and a long, penetrating finish. This is a terrific effort, though given the thoughtful farming and program of replanting that is underway at this long-neglected estate, I suspect it only hints at what is to come as Jean-Christophe Meyrou and his team get to work.

The 2019 Bellefont-Belcier is a wine of tremendous reserve. The 35% Cabernet Franc comes through in the wine's aromatic profile and overall feel. Readers will have to be patient, as the 2019 needs time to come together. It is a seriously impressive wine with tons of character. I have long admired Bellefont-Belcier for its potential. In the past, the tannins were simply overpowering, if the 2019 is any indication, that might be less of an issue going forward.

Philipponnats NV Réserve Perpétuelle Brut – ehemals Brut Royale Réserve – besteht zu 44 % aus Weinen des Jahrgangs 2021 und zu 56 % aus Reserveweinen, die in ständiger Reserve gehalten werden. Er eröffnet mit einem einladenden Bouquet von reifen Pfirsichen, roten Beeren, Birnen und Gebäck. Am Gaumen präsentiert er sich mittelkräftig bis vollmundig, körperreich und strukturiert, mit einem großzügigen, einhüllenden Charakter, der von einer lebendigen Säure belebt wird. Während der Basisjahrgang hauptsächlich im Edelstahltank vinifiziert wird, reifen die Reserveweine in Eichenfässern und durchlaufen eine teilweise malolaktische Gärung. Diese Abfüllung wurde im Dezember 2024 mit einer Dosage von acht Gramm pro Liter degorgiert.

Jedes Jahr wird die Cuvée mit einem neuen Jahrgang angereichert, der zwei Drittel der Cuvée ausmacht. Hinzu kommt die stetig wachsende Summe der vergangenen Lese – ein Drittel der Cuvée. Nach der Assemblage wird ein Drittel der Cuvée in Eichenfässer gefüllt und reift dort bis zur nächsten Lese weiter. Dann wird sie erneut verschnitten, um einen neuen Zyklus dieser fortwährenden Erneuerung zu vollenden.

Weinbereitung: Erste Pressung der Trauben aus dem Herzen der Champagne, vorwiegend Grand und Premier Cru Pinot Noir aus der Gegend um Mareuil-sur-Ay. Traditionelle Vinifizierung in Tanks und Eichenfässern, um vorzeitige Oxidation zu vermeiden. 23 % der Weine des Jahrgangs 2020 wurden nicht malolaktisch vergoren. Unsere Reserveweine reifen in Fässern, um ihnen eine erhabene Tiefe und Patina zu verleihen. Sie sind ein Schatz, den das Haus jedes Jahr neu verschnitten und erneuert, indem sie in die neue Ernte eingearbeitet werden. So wird die Komplexität erhöht, ohne die Mineralität zu verändern. Der neu erschienene NV Brut Rosé von Philipponnat, der auf dem Jahrgang 2021 basiert und im November 2024 degorgiert wurde, ist der Nachfolger des Rosé Royale Réserve. Seine zarte Farbe und sein lebhafter Charakter mit Noten von roten Früchten verdankt er einer Mischung aus 6 % stillem Rotwein und einem Rosé de Saignée, der aus reifen Trauben aus Clos des Goisses und Les Riceys gewonnen wird. Er steigt mit Noten von Waldbeeren, Brioche, Kirsche und Geißblatt aus dem Glas empor. Am Gaumen ist er mittel- bis vollmundig, reichhaltig und fleischig, mit einem großzügigen Fruchtkern, einer saftigen und dennoch lebendigen Säure und einem duftenden, zart nach Grapefruit schmeckenden Abgang. Seine Dosage von neun Gramm pro Liter ist zu Beginn der Verkostung nicht sofort erkennbar, doch wenn sich der Wein leicht erwärmt, wirkt sich die Süße weniger schmeichelhaft auf den Gesamteindruck aus. Die Assemblage besteht aus 68 % Pinot Noir, 30 % Chardonnay und 2 % Pinot Meunier.

Die Verkostungsnotiz des Champagnerhauses: Aussehen: Lachsrosa mit kupferroten Reflexen. Feine, cremige und anhaltende Perlage. Duft: Zunächst rote Früchte, mit Noten von Kirschen und Walderdbeeren. Mit der Zeit entfalten sich Anklänge von Zitrusfrüchten und Grapefruitschale. Geschmack: Elegant und rein am Gaumen. Der Abgang ist vollmundig und reichhaltig, getragen von einer angenehmen Säure und einer leichten Adstringenz, die die Fruchtaromen hervorhebt.

Weinbereitung: Traditionelle Weinbereitung in Tanks und Holzfässern (13,8 %), um vorzeitige Oxidation zu vermeiden. 25 % der Weine des Jahrgangs 2021 wurden ohne malolaktische Gärung hergestellt. Der Pinot Noir (Stillwein) und der Rosé de Saignée aus Mareuil-sur-Ay und Les Riceys wurden durch Mazeration gewonnen und zu 7 bis 8 % für einen zartfarbigen Rosé mit ausgeprägt fruchtigem Aroma verwendet. Eine moderate Dosage (9 g/l) sorgt für die Balance zwischen Frische, Fruchtigkeit und Weinigkeit, ohne den Charakter oder die Reinheit des Weins zu verfälschen.

Ausbau: Die Reifung auf der Hefe in den Kellern des Hauses erfolgte bei einer konstanten Temperatur von 12°C für drei bis vier Jahre – deutlich länger als die gesetzlich vorgeschriebene Mindestreifezeit von fünfzehn Monaten.

William Kelley: Wie ich Anfang dieses Jahres schrieb, hat sich der 2019er Tronquoy-Lalande wunderschön entwickelt und zeigt sich weiterhin sehr gut. Er bietet einladende Aromen von wilden Beeren, Gewürzen, Rosenblättern und Cassis. Mittel bis vollmundig, vielschichtig und sinnlich, mit lebendigen Säuren, reifen Tanninen und einem langen, lebhaften Abgang, erinnert er an einen etwas sonnenverwöhnteren und extrovertierten Bruder des großartigen 2016er Jahrgangs an dieser Adresse. Wie ich Anfang dieses Jahres schrieb, ist Tronquoy-Lalande ein Weingut, das viel bekannter sein sollte. Dies war der zweite Weinberg, der in Saint-Estèphe bepflanzt wurde, nach dem Clos von Calon-Ségur, aber sein royalistischer Besitzer nahm aufgrund seiner Ablehnung von Napoléon III. nicht an der Klassifikation von 1855 teil. Der Weinberg selbst besteht aus einem einzigen 30 Hektar großen Block auf einem acht Meter tiefen Kiesrücken direkt hinter den Châteaux Meyney und Montrose. Mit dem Jahrgang 2021 bio-zertifiziert, hat Tronquoy-Lalande niemals Herbizide gesehen; und nach der Übernahme durch Olivier und Martin Bouygues im Jahr 2006 wurde die Kellerei mit Input des verstorbenen Jean-Philippe Delmas neu gestaltet und mit zweistufigen Edelstahltanks nach dem Modell von Château Haut-Brion ausgestattet. Unter der fähigen Leitung von Yves Delsol, der seit 30 Jahren auf dem Weingut arbeitet und somit jedes Detail kennt, ist der Stil nahtlos, komplex und konzentriert, mit einer strukturellen Eleganz, die die Qualität dieser Kiesböden mehr widerspiegelt als irgendwelche Stereotypen der Rustikalität von Saint-Estèphe. Tatsächlich wird dieses Weingut bei jeder Überarbeitung der Klassifikation von 1855 eindeutig den Status eines klassifizierten Wachstums gewinnen. Tronquoy-Lalande wird nicht en primeur verkauft, und Leser können alle hier bewerteten Jahrgänge auf dem Markt finden.

Immer eine leicht Merlot-lastige Mischung, die viel Cabernet Sauvignon sowie kleine Mengen Petit Verdot und Cabernet Franc enthält, bietet der tief purpurfarbene 2019er Château Tronquoy-Lalande einen kraftvollen, mittel- bis vollmundigen, konzentrierten Stil, der beim Lagern belohnt wird. Mit vielen roten und schwarzen Johannisbeerfrüchten sowie Zedernholz-, Eisen- und schokoladigen Aromen hat er eine hervorragende Gesamtausgewogenheit, einen dezenten Eichenton, reife Tannine und einen großartigen Abgang. Es lohnt sich auf jeden Fall, ihn zu suchen, und er kommt dem 2018er Jahrgang nahe.
