There is an exotic quality to Poesia in 2019 that is especially alluring. Brilliant.

Dark cherry. plum. lavender. spice and licorice all meld together in sumptuous Saint-Émilion that will drink well right out of the gate. Sweet floral notes resonate on the effortless finish. Tasted next to Barde-Haut. Poesia offers a touch more freshness. Hélène Garcin-Lévêque and Patrice Lévêque turned out a gorgeous set of 2019s. The wines are deep. ample and so expressive. Readers who want to understand the diversity of Saint-Émilion will find that in Barde-Haut and Poesia. two wines that really capture the personality of the vintage in these two districts.

The 2019 Larcis Ducasse is magnificent. Deep and beautifully layered, the 2019 offers tons of youthful resonance wrapped into a super-classic frame. There is a feeling of translucence here that is so beguiling. Sweet dark cherry, tobacco, cedar, menthol and dried flowers are some of the many aromas and flavors that take shape over time. Regal and refined, with an elegant, polished finish, Larcis is magnificent in 2019. Aging in equal parts barrique and 500L tonneaux (which are rare in Bordeaux) helps preserve vibrancy. Larcis Ducasse might be the single most under the radar wine in all of Bordeaux!

Château Peymouton ist Teil des Anwesens von Château Laroque, einem historischen Grand Cru Classé von Saint-Émilion, das nur 3,5 km östlich des mittelalterlichen Dorfes liegt.

From holdings just across the border from Pomerol characterized by predominantly sandy-clay soils, the 2019 Grand Corbin-Despagne offers up aromas of plums, sweet berries and cherries mingled with raw cocoa, cigar wrapper, licorice, violets and spices. Medium to full-bodied, ample and succulent, with fine concentration, lively acids and ripe, powdery tannins, it's a beautifully balanced classic that will age with grace. François Despagne is the seventh generation of his family to steward this 28-hectare Saint-Émilion estate, located just across the border from Pomerol, and he is intent on bringing it back to the heights of which anyone who has tasted vintages such as 1929 or 1961 know it is capable.

Returning to the estate after some years researching wine microbiology, he dug 150 soil pits—discovering that the historic delimitation of parcels on the estate corresponded precisely to the underlying geology. Soils are thin sand over blue clay, and replanting favors Cabernet Franc (with an in-house massale selection)—which represented about 60% of the surface area before the 1956 frosts and subsequent replanting. Despagne has converted to organic and biodynamic farming, reducing yields, and that is translating to new levels of depth and concentration. In the winery and cellar, however, the approach is rather classical, with a tendency to work more reductively and preserve better purity of fruit (Thomas Duclos consults), emphasizing seamlessness and depth over extraction and impact. This is an estate to watch.

The bouquet has tightened up since I tasted the barrel sample (also at the château, in summer 2021): blackberry, raspberry and cedar are now accompanied by just a touch of peppermint. The palate is medium-bodied, taut and fresh, with sappy red fruit, fine acidity and a vibrant, harmonious finish. The 2017 Rauzan-Ségla is coming together very nicely. Soft and silky. the 2017 is a wine of pure and total finesse. Sweet red cherry and plum fruit. tobacco. cedar and licorice add pretty top notes. but more than anything else. the 2017 impresses with its statuesque elegance and total balance; nothing in particular stands out. For that reason. Rauzan-Ségla is the sort of wine that is easy to overlook. and yet all the elements of a top notch Left-Bank wine are present. Tasted three times.
