This is so fine and refined with citrus, crushed stone, lime stone and fresh mushroom. It’s medium-bodied with fine tannins that run the length of the wine. Minerally finish. Tight and racy. Drink after 2025, but already beautiful.

The 2019 Lassegue is a blend of 58% Merlot, 32% Cabernet Franc and 10% Cabernet Sauvignon. It is being aged in French oak barrels, 75% new. Displaying a deep garnet-purple color, the nose explodes with pristine, fantastically well-defined notes of Morello cherries, black raspberries and crushed black plums with hints of menthol, Sichuan pepper, cinnamon toast and red roses plus a waft of garrigue. The medium to full-bodied palate gives layer upon layer of elegantly styled black and red fruit flavors, supported by exquisitely ripe tannins and seamless freshness, finishing long with loads of baking spice and floral nuances.

Coming from the home estate of Pierre Seillan, who’s behind the incredible wines of Vérité in Sonoma, the 2019 Lassègue sports a deep purple color as well as a great nose of blueberries, mulberries, tobacco, dusty earth, and flowery incense. It’s an exotic, full-bodied Saint-Emilion with beautiful balance, plenty of ripe tannins, the vibrancy and freshness of the vintage, and a great finish. It’s a beautifully complex 2019 that’s going to evolve nicely for two decades or more.

The 2019 Fombrauge is one of the best wines I have tasted from this property in some time. It shows all the richness that is typical of Bernard Magrez's style but with less heaviness and a good deal of aromatic presence that helps balance things out. Sweet dark cherry, chocolate, leather, licorice and mocha build into the resonant, super-expressive finish. The 2019 is a classy Fombrauge.

The palate is medium-bodied, fleshy and generous, with succulent ripe tannins, a satiny texture and a gossamer finish that slips down the throat. Afford it 5–6 years and this should evolve into a lovely Saint-Émilion.

TThis estate has been delivering the goods for numerous vintages now, and the 2019 Château Tour Saint Christophe is another terrific wine. Ripe black cherries, black raspberries, graphite, new leather, and chalky minerality all define the nose, and it's medium to full-bodied, has a tight, straight, focused texture, ripe yet present tannins, and outstanding length. It doesn't have the mid-palate density or opulence of the 2018, but it’s more pretty, focused, and straight on the palate. Give bottles 4-5 years and enjoy over the following two decades.

This is a Saint-Émilion that is in for the long haul. Great potential.

The Cabernet Franc-dominated 2018 Château Petit Gravet Aîné (there's 20% Merlot) comes from the upper plateau in Saint-Emilion and was raised in new French oak. It's handled its élevage nicely and has just subtle vanilla and spicy oak notes as well as impressive red, black, and blue fruits intermixed with notes of acacia flowers, spice box, forest floor, and tobacco. Tighter and more backward from bottle than barrel, it's medium to full-bodied and has a balanced, elegant texture, beautiful tannins, and a great finish. It needs 3-5 years of bottle age and should have two decades of overall longevity.

Espresso,, lavender, dried rose petal and cedar linger on the complex, beautifully delineated finish. The 2019 is seriously impressive. It's as simple as that.

Chateau Badette 2019 Saint Emilion

Red and black currants, tobacco, new saddle leather, chocolaty oak, and Provençal herb notes all emerge from the 2019 Château Badette, a ripe, opulent, seamless 2019 with loads to love. Based on 85% Merlot, 10% Cabernet Franc, and 5% Petit Verdot, it has lots of background oak yet balancing fruit, good mid-palate depth, and a great finish. It's not for the old-school Claret lovers out there, but I suspect it will turn into a classic Saint-Emilion with 5-7 years of bottle age.

The Mangot 2019 Todeschini Distique 12 is a special cuvée that celebrates the 12 years (and counting) that the Todeschini brothers have been working together at this estate and which blends 40% Cabernet Franc, 40% Merlot and 20% Cabernet Sauvignon to deliver a more structured, concentrated wine than the regular Mangot blend. Exhibiting aromas of dark berries, baking chocolate, violets and plums, it's medium to full-bodied, ample and lively, with a deep core of fruit that's framed by fine, powdery tannins. This shows plenty of potential.

Another beautiful wine from the Lefévère family that does everything right, the 2019 Château Sansonnet has a textbook Saint-Emilion bouquet of chalky minerality, ripe red and black fruits, notes of truffle and flowers, medium to full body, and beautiful overall balance. In the past, this wine has had a glossy, slightly modern style (in a good sense), but the 2019 has an incredibly classic feel with its oak nicely integrated and just a liquid rock-like minerality on the finish. It's a gorgeous wine that will benefit from 2-4 years of bottle age and keep for over two decades.

From holdings just across the border from Pomerol characterized by predominantly sandy-clay soils, the 2019 Grand Corbin-Despagne offers up aromas of plums, sweet berries and cherries mingled with raw cocoa, cigar wrapper, licorice, violets and spices. Medium to full-bodied, ample and succulent, with fine concentration, lively acids and ripe, powdery tannins, it's a beautifully balanced classic that will age with grace. François Despagne is the seventh generation of his family to steward this 28-hectare Saint-Émilion estate, located just across the border from Pomerol, and he is intent on bringing it back to the heights of which anyone who has tasted vintages such as 1929 or 1961 know it is capable.

Returning to the estate after some years researching wine microbiology, he dug 150 soil pits—discovering that the historic delimitation of parcels on the estate corresponded precisely to the underlying geology. Soils are thin sand over blue clay, and replanting favors Cabernet Franc (with an in-house massale selection)—which represented about 60% of the surface area before the 1956 frosts and subsequent replanting. Despagne has converted to organic and biodynamic farming, reducing yields, and that is translating to new levels of depth and concentration. Les Grèves gehört mit seinen, hauptsächlich mit Pinot noir bepflanzten, rund 31 Hektar zu den größten der 44 Premier-Cru-Lagen in der burgundischen Appellation Beaune. Die Rotweine aus diesen nördlichen Rebflächen des Städtchen Beaune sind dabei oft etwas intensiver und kräftiger als die eher weichen und vollmundigen Weine aus dem südlichen Gemeindegebiet. Im Glas, so das Bureau Interprofessionnel des Vins de Bourgogne (BIVB), verströmen sie Aromen von schwarzen (schwarze Johannisbeere, Brombeere) und roten Früchten (Kirsche, Stachelbeere) sowie von Humus und Gestrüpp. Wenn er älter ist, duftet er nach Trüffel, Leder und Gewürzen. In seiner Jugend verzaubert er den Gaumen mit dem Geschmack knackig-frischer Trauben. Fest, aufrecht und saftig, entwickelt er sich mit der Zeit und zeigt eine solide und absolut überzeugende Struktur.

Die Domaine Thomas Morey befindet sich in Chassagne-Montrachet. Thomas und seine Frau Sylvie bewirtschaften rund 13 Hektar in den Appellationen Chassagne-Montrachet, Puligny-Montrachet und Bâtard-Montrachet, Maranges, Santenay, Saint-Aubin und Beaune. Die Moreys sind in der 10. Generation Winzer in Chassagne. 2006 haben sie beschlossen, sich selbstständig zu machen. 2014 entschlossen sie sich, den Betrieb biologisch zertifizieren zu lassen. One of those wines that punches well above its price point, the 2018 Château Charmail comes from the northern part of the Médoc and is a mix of Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, and Petit Verdot brought up in mostly used barrels. Beautiful darker currants and cassis fruits as well as tobacco, chocolate, and damp earth give way to medium to full-bodied 2018 with a plush, rounded texture, a terrific mid-palate, silky tannins, and a great finish. It's a gorgeous wine and I think even a step up over the 2016. Enjoy bottles any time over the coming 10-12 years.

Juliénas, bereits seit 1938 mit eigenem Appellationsstatus versehen, ist einer der nördlichsten Crus des Beaujolais. Bottière ist ein wunderschönes Terroir! Dies ist ein Rückgriff auf den klassischen Beaujolais aus einer anderen Zeit. Vergoren mit 100% ganzen Trauben, Kohlensäure-Maischung und langsamer Pressung. Der Ausbau erfolgte in burgundischen Fässern. Ein leuchtender, heller Wein mit delikaten Aromen, die dazu einladen, diesen Nektar zu kosten.

Bei dem Bret Brothers La Bottière 2020 Beaujolais AOC Juliénas handelt es sich um einen Wein aus der Serie der "Cuvée Zen", die das Weingut im Bereich der Rotweine seit 2019 produziert. Diese "Zen"-Philosophie verlangt von den beiden Brüdern Jean-Guillaume und Jean Philipp besondere Hingabe an und Konzentration auf den Prozess des Weinmachens. Denn während der Weinbereitung, so erläutern die Beiden, wird keinerlei Schwefel verwendet. Erst mit Flaschenabfüllung wird eine minimale Menge zugesetzt. Das Ergebnis sind offene und ausdrucksstarke Weine. Mit den Worten der Brets gesprochen: "Sie vibrieren mit einer fast magischen Energie".

The blackberry and roasted-hazelnut aromas are very intense. Full body, round and juicy tannins and a rich, flavorful finish. Lots going on here. Very well done. A blend of 51 per cent merlot, 42 per cent cabernet sauvignon and seven per cent petit verdot. Better in 2022.
