Beschreibung

Die Cabernet-Trauben für Robert Mondavis Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve werden im Oktober von Hand in kleine Lesekistchen geerntet und sofort in die To Kalon Kellerei gebracht. Hier werden die Trauben an Lesetischen streng sortiert. damit nur kerngesundes. optimal gereiftes Lesegut in den Reserve gelangt. und dann die traditionelle Vergärung im Eichenholzfass gestartet. In To Kalon werden die Moste und Weine nicht mit Pumpen. sondern schonend mittels Schwerkraft transportiert und die Trauben in der traditionellen Korbpresse sanft gepresst. Während seiner ausgedehnten Maischestandzeit (37 Tage) kann der Wein den Beerenhäuten besonders sanftes Tannin entziehen und vollendet sich schließlich bei seiner rund 18-monatigen Reife in 100 % neuen Barriques aus französischer Eiche.

The 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve from the To Kalon Vineyard celebrates the 50th anniversary of the great Robert Mondavi and his extraordinary vision to create something special in the heart of Napa Valley. A beautifully polished wine. with a dense ruby/purple color. it is still tightly knit and showing high-quality oak. The wine is full-bodied and rich. with outstanding depth. ripeness and purity. There is plenty of backbone and tannin for 25-30 years of cellaring. The wine shows notes of chocolate and plenty of blackcurrant fruit and blackberry. This is a beauty and certainly a great reserve and worthy homage to the legendary Robert Mondavi. Give it another 2-4 years of cellaring. and drink it over the following 30 years.

Aromas of black currants. violets. lavender. and stone follow through a full body. chewy tannins and toned muscular structure. This is a Mondavi reserve that harkens back to the great years of the 1970s. A tribute to the 50th anniversary of the winery. Try in 2022.

The flagship wine, the 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon Estate from his vineyard high on Spring Mountain is a blend of 82% Cabernet Sauvignon, 15% Merlot, 2% Cabernet Franc and 1% Petit Verdot. It seems slightly more approachable and civilized for a young Togni wine, with a dense ruby/purple color, loads of blackcurrant, licorice, and graphite, some earth and spice, but very subtle earth nuances. It is full-bodied and rich, but the tannins are well-integrated and don’t scream as loudly as some vintages of Togni can. For Togni, this is probably one of his more forward and precociously styled Cabernets. It will probably approach drinkability in several years, but don’t discount its aging potential, as this easily has 20-25 years of cellaring potential.

Der Cardinale ist ein Napa Valley Rotwein der zum Imperium der Jackson Familie zählt. Das besondere ist. dass das Weingut Cardinale zwar als Gebäude im Oakville District beheimatet ist. bei der Frucht für den späteren Top Wein Cardinale aber verschiedenen Weinberge genutzt werden. Die Weinberge verteilen sich in den besten Appelationen des Nap Valley: Diamond Mountain District. Mount Veeder. Stags Leap. Howell Mountain. St. Helena. Spring Mountain District. Für den Cardinale 2014 Proprietary Red Wine verwendet der begnadete Christopher Carpenter aus 11 verschiedenen Weinbergen Cabernet Sauvignon des Napa Valley welche dann 88% der finalen Blend repräsentieren. Und aus den Weinbergen des Howell Mountain Districts stammen 12% Merlot in der Blend für den Cardinale 2014. Der Ausbau erfolgt über 19 Monate in 100% französischem Holz. der Neuholzanteil beträgt 94%. Die Abfüllung erfolgt ungeschönt und unfiltriert.

A magnificent wine made the by the brilliant winemaker Chris Carpenter. who also works for the Kendall-Jackson empire at Lakoya and a handful of other estates. this blend of 88% Cabernet Sauvignon and 12% Merlot is sourced from multiple vineyards owned by the Jacksons. from Veeder Peak to Spring Mountain to Howell Mountain. In 2014. it reminded me of a great vintage of Pontet-Canet from Pauillac. but slightly bigger than life. The inky purple color. the stunning nose of cedar wood. unsmoked cigar tobacco. graphite. crème de cassis and subtle new oak is followed by a multi-layered. profoundly concentrated. large-scaled wine with sensational levels of blackcurrant fruit moving toward blackberries. A wine of great intensity. silky tannins and adequate acidity. this is clearly one of the great. great wines of the vintage. and another tour de force in winemaking from Carpenter. It is a 15- to 20- year wine. but the window for drinking its is probably that big as well.

Der Othello 2015 Napa Valley ist der Einstieg in die Welt der Dominus - Weine. Er ist so etwas wie der "Le Volte" bei Ornellaia. Ein Drittwein der schon einiges von seinen grösseren Brüdern verrät und so manches gemeinsam hat. Der Othello ist noch relativ jung auf dem Internationalen Markt. der Othello wird seit dem Jahrgang 2006 produziert. ursprünglich auf dem Asiatischen Markt vermarktet. wird er nun auch bei uns viel Freude bereiten. Der 2012er Othello ist der erste Jahrgang der auch auf dem Euroäischen Markt verfügbar ist. Mit dem Kracherjahrgang 2013 erhielt er einen super Nachfolger. der allerdings etwas Zeit brauchen wird um seine Kanten zu glätten. Er geizt nicht mit seinen Reizen. Wie im Bordeaux auch verwendet Christian Moueix die klassischen Bordeauxrebsorten in dieser Blend. 86% Cabernet Sauvignon. 8% Cabernet Franc und 6% Petit Verdot. Die Trauben werden per Hand gelesen. bei behutsamen überpumpen findet die schonende Extraktion statt. Der Ausbau erfolgt dann über 14 Monate iin Französischen Fässern.

The 2014s. where the production of Napanook was only 2.200 cases and Dominus slightly more than the 2015 at 4.000 cases. was another early harvest. although somewhat later than 2015. The 2014 Dominus. which is 86% Cabernet Sauvignon. 7% Cabernet Franc and 7% Petit Verdot really struts its stuff. Moueix’s belief in dry farming seems to be paying off with stronger and stronger vintages, each successive year, and the 2014 is a sexy, opulent, layered, multidimensional wine with notes of red and blackcurrant, cedar wood, tobacco leaf, spice box and licorice. The color is a dense plum/ruby/purple, much like the Napanook. This is a beauty that is already drinking gorgeously – as most 2014s are – and will continue to evolve for 25 or so years.

The 2014 Dominus is endowed with tons of depth, power and muscle. Black cherry, plum, smoke, menthol, licorice, chocolate, dried herbs and dark spices are all pushed forward. Deep, pliant and exquisitely layered, the 2014 possesses tons of concentration and mid-palate depth. Like so many wines in this vintage, the 2014 comes across as a hybrid of 2013 and 2012. I very much like the energy and focus in this wine. This is a fabulous wine in every way. With time in the glass, the flavors gain in brightness and focus. There is certainly much to look forward to.

Bottled in January 2019, the 2016 Insignia is a blend of 84% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Petit Verdot, 3% Cabernet Franc and 1% Malbec, aged for 24 months in 100% new French oak barrels. Deep garnet-purple colored, the nose is a little reticent to begin, needing a fair bit of coaxing to reveal beautifully beguiling notions of wild blueberries, warm blackberries, black currant cordial, cloves and cedar chest with nuances of camphor, yeast extract, charcuterie and candied violets. Medium to full-bodied, the palate has fantastic elegance and depth, revealing loads of subtle floral, black fruit and earthy layers with a firm, very finely grained texture and seamless freshness, finishing with epic length. 13,400 cases were made.

A barrel sample made up of 84% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Petit Verdot, 3% Cabernet Franc and 3% Malbec to be aged for 24 months in 100% new French oak, the 2016 Insignia Proprietary Red Wine has a deep garnet-purple color and is a little reticent at this still nascent stage (to be bottled in January 2019), opening out to reveal chocolate-covered cherries, wild blueberries and black raspberries with touches of underbrush, cedar chest and bouquet garni plus a hint of grilled meat. Medium to full-bodied, the palate springs forth with exciting energy, offering loads of red and black fruit layers and compelling herbal sparks, featuring a firm, fine-grained backbone and bags of freshness lifting the finish. 13,500 cases are expected to be made.

Lovely density and intensity with dark berries, blueberries and inky undertones with hints of spice, chocolate and walnuts. Medium to full body, fine tannins and a flavorful finish. The texture and length are fantastic here. Complex. Hints of smoky wood at the end. This needs three to five years more in bottle age. Exciting wine. Try after 2022.

The 2016 Insignia has turned out beautifully. Silky, layered and positively striking, the 2016 is magnificent. In this vintage. Insignia is especially silky. refined and understated, which is unusual for this wine that has often been more bombastic. Readers will have to be patient with the 2016, as it needs at least several years in bottle to be at its very best, but this is all finesse and class.

The clarity and precision to this wine are phenomenal with blackcurrants, floral notes, blueberries, and orange peel. Complex and subtle with grace and stature. Full body, ultra-polished and refined tannins and bright acidity. The wine needs three to four years to open on the palate, but already it has a caressing quality to it.

Jede dieser Lagen bringt hier ihre individuelle Klasse ein, wodurch die Aromenstrukturen unterschiedlicher Höhenlagen zur Geltung kommen können. Die stabilen Sonnenstunden in Sommer und Herbst ermöglichten einen reifen, fruchtbetonten Wein von hoher Intensität.

Der Louis M. Martini Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2018 entfaltet auf Grundlage der markant kraftvollen Gerbstoffe ein weiches Aromenerlebnis von satter Kirsche und wilden Brombeeren. Der ausgiebige Holzkontakt bereichert dies um einen Hauch von Zeder und frischen Kräutern. Am Gaumen geben sich die Tannine dieses Cabernets vollmundig und elegant. All diese Eindrücke halten im Abgang enorm lange an und klingen harmonisch aus.
