The deep garnet-purple colored 2016 Proprietary Red Wine is blended of 89% Cabernet Sauvignon and 11% Merlot. It opens with compelling chocolate box and licorice scents over a core of black and red currants. warm plums and baking spices with hints of cedar chest and pencil lead. The palate is full-bodied with layers of cassis and kirsch flavors framed by firm. grainy tannins and fabulous freshness. finishing long and spicy. 4.772 cases produced.

96 Punkte vom Vinous-Team für de Cardinale 2016 Napa ValleyAntonio Galloni am 31. Dezember 2018:

The 2016 Cardinale is distinctly aromatic and nuanced. In 2016. winemaker Chris Carpenter built Cardinale around a core of Spring Mountain fruit. Perhaps for that reason. Cardinale is a bit more refined in the early going than is often the case. Silky. fine-grained tannins and mid-weight structure frame expressive dark cherry. plum. chocolate and new leather. but it is really the wine's overall feel that stands out most. A dollop of Merlot adds to a feeling of openness in this super-expressive Cardinale from winemaker Chris Carpenter. A range of sites in Stags Leap. Howell Mountain. Diamond Mountain. Mt. Veeder and St. Helena round out the blend.

Possessing mere splashes of Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot, the 2015 Cabernet Sauvignon has a beautifully expressive crème de cassis nose with underlying black cherries, chocolate box, star anise and violets plus touches of pencil shavings and beef drippings. Medium to full-bodied, it delivers a quiet intensity of black fruits and restrained earthy layers supported by chewy tannins and plenty of freshness, finishing long with mineral and savory nuances. It has lovely elegance and depth. It needs another 2-3 years in bottle, then it should cellar gracefully over the next 20+ years. 1,000 cases were made.

The 2015 Ulysses brings together the richness of the year with a good bit of underlying support. Dark and powerful in the glass, but with silky tannins and striking purity of fruit, the 2015 is a wonderfully complete wine. Black cherry, plum, gravel, lavender and menthol give the 2015 many of its aromatic and flavor signatures. Readers will find much to admire in the 2015. The interplay of aromatics, fruit and structure places Ulysses among the finest wines of the vintage.

Aromas of dark fruit, such as blackberries and black olives, as well as black tea and tanned leather. Raspberries and lemon spices, too. Full-bodied, very tight and polished with beautiful tannins and a weave of fruit and acidity to beautifully buttress the whole wine. Balanced and bright for the vintage. Drink in 2020 and onwards.

Beschreibung für den Dominus 2013

Dominus 2013 captures the deep character of the Napanook Vineyard. and unfolds with magnificent dimension. Blue and purple fruit. violets and earth unite in a wine whose
aging potential is unlimited.
“In Napa. the 2013 vintage is. for me. the vintage of a lifetime.” - Christian Moueix

2 0 1 3 D O M I N U S Napa Valley
2013 was characterized by a very dry spring and a consistently warm summer/early fall. Only 6.4 inches of rainfall were recorded from January to June (versus 17.7 inches average).
Low reserves of soil water limited vine growth. While average temperatures remained warm throughout spring and summer. no heat spikes were recorded in July. August or September.
In terms of thermal time (growing degree days). the season was 18 days ahead of the norm at the beginning of harvest (September 10).
Blend:
Cabernet Sauvignon: 89%. Petit Verdot: 7%. Cabernet Franc: 4%

100 Punkte Vinous für den Dominus Estate 2013 Domius Napa Valley Christian MoueixAntonio Galloni für Vinous im Oktober 2015:

The 2013 Dominus overwhelms all the senses with its magnificent overall balance and towering intensity. Deep and nearly impenetrable in the glass. the 2013 boasts off the charts dry extract and overall power. Violets. smoke. black cherries. menthol. incense. crème de cassis and dark spices are some of the many signatures that take shape in the glass. Even better in bottle than it was in barrel. the 2013 is utterly magnificent. This is a remarkably vivid. nuanced wine considering its sheer size.

The aromas to this are multidimensional and fascinating with black truffles. bark. cloves. black currants. citrus. and even ginseng. Full-bodied. yet reserved and austere with chewy and powerful tannins that remain polished and refined. The flavors are more umami and savory. Then there are forest fruits and blood-orange undertones. The wine goes on for minutes. A wine to age for a lifetime. It's an experience to taste this. A new classic showing its history and tradition as a source of the greatest wines ever from Napa. A wine to enjoy forever.

Dominus 2013 Napa Valley mit 100 Parker PunktenRobert M. Parker Jr. 30. Oktober 2015:

The 2013 Dominus is. to my way of thinking. one of the most profound wines Christian Moueix has yet made in his rather brilliant winemaking history. both in France and in Napa Valley. This wine. with very low yields of only 3.500 cases and a final blend of 89% Cabernet Sauvignon. 7% Petit Verdot and 4% Cabernet Franc. offers up notes of cedar wood. forest floor. loamy soil and oodles of blackberry and blackcurrant fruit. Very opaque purple in color. super-pure and intense. this wine has low acidity. but ripe. noticeable tannins. This is a 30- to 40-year wine and a profound effort from this famous vineyard in Yountville. Drink it over the next 40+ years.

Philip Togni 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon Napa ValleyAntonio Galloni beschreibt den Philip Togni 2014 Cabernet Sauvvignon EstateDezember 2016 wie folgt:

Togni's 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon Estate is quite dark and powerful. but also very much medium in body. Graphite. smoke, savory herbs, mint, leather and a core of inky dark red and purplish fruit infuse this deep, beautifully layered Cabernet Sauvignon. The 2014 is a wine built on energy and aromatics that won't hit its stride until at least age ten.

94+ Punkte vom Wine Advocate für den Philip Togni 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley30th Dec 2016 Robert M. Parker Jr.:

The flagship wine, the 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon Estate from his vineyard high on Spring Mountain is a blend of 82% Cabernet Sauvignon, 15% Merlot, 2% Cabernet Franc and 1% Petit Verdot. It seems slightly more approachable and civilized for a young Togni wine, with a dense ruby/purple color, loads of blackcurrant, licorice, and graphite, some earth and spice, but very subtle earth nuances. It is full-bodied and rich, but the tannins are well-integrated and don’t scream as loudly as some vintages of Togni can. For Togni, this is probably one of his more forward and precociously styled Cabernets. It will probably approach drinkability in several years, but don’t discount its aging potential, as this easily has 20-25 years of cellaring potential.
