The 2019 Tour de Termes is succulent, racy and so expressive. Blueberry jam, graphite, chocolate, licorice, spice and lavender infuse the 2019 with captivating depth. Tour des Termes shows off the more flamboyant side of Saint-Estèphe to great effect. All the elements are impeccably balanced here.

Displaying a deep garnet-purple color, the 2019 Tour des Termes charges out of the gate with bold expressions of cassis, raspberry pie and blueberry compote plus hints of chocolate box, licorice, camphor and rose hip tea. The medium-bodied palate features a racy line of freshness and well-managed, grainy tannins supporting the crunchy black fruit flavors, finishing with a lively lift.

Composed of 46% Cabernet Sauvignon, 46% Merlot, 6% Petit Verdot and 2% Cabernet Franc, the 2019 le Boscq sports a deep purple-black color and expressive notes of baked black cherries, warm cassis and blackberry preserves with touches of pencil lead, bouquet garni, cast-iron pan and woodsmoke. Medium to full-bodied, the palate delivers a good intensity of crunchy black fruits with a sturdy frame of grainy tannins and bags of freshness, finishing with a compelling herbal lift.

The 2019 Le Boscq is a dense, powerful wine. Inky dark fruit, charcoal, lavender, spice and tobacco add layers of nuance to this inky, beautifully resonant Saint-Estèphe. Rich, deep and racy, Le Boscq has a lot to offer. Today, it is shaping up to be one of the gems of the vintage. The 2019 is absolutely terrific and a potential sleeper of the vintage.

The 2019 Le Boscq has a splendid bouquet with blackberry, bilberry and light estuarine scents, as if they captured a whiff of the Gironde in the bottle. Good definition too. The palate is medium-bodied with crunchy black fruit, a little oaky on the entry though it seems better integrated towards the smooth finish, with a mouth-coating graphite aftertaste. Good potential.

The medium to full-bodied palate has a generous core of ripe black fruits with a slight touch of oak poking through and a firm backbone of ripe, grainy tannins, finishing with impressive length. 90-92+

The 2019 Meyney is well defined on the bouquet, leaning a little more towards the red side of the fruit spectrum with raspberry, wild strawberry and floral scents. The oak is neatly integrated. The palate is medium-bodied with grainy tannins. It has a citric element from start to finish, a taut line of acidity with light spicy notes towards the finish that shares the brininess of stablemate Grand Puy Ducasse. Very fine. Tasted twice with consistent notes.

The 2019 Lafon-Rochet, which was picked from 25 September to 5 October, requires a little coaxing from the glass, eventually unfurling with blackberry, bilberry, violet and light crushed stone/clayey scents that is quintessential Saint-Estèphe. The palate is medium-bodied with fine-boned tannins, fresh and saline in the mouth, old school in the best sense of that expression. No, it is not the most flamboyant Lafon-Rochet, but it is imbued with a sense of nobility and classicism that I much admire. Tasted three times with consistent notes.

The palate is ripe and succulent on the entry, yet there are genuinely very fine tannins here, lending this Saint-Estèphe a silky texture à la 2016 and a persistent, gratifying finish. Bon vin!

"The Merlots were so good this year that most have gone into the first wine, giving this a higher percentage of Cabernet Sauvignon than usual and making it a serious Dame de Montrose, with clear ageing potential. Elegant and balanced, with purity and juicy black fruits. It has that savoury Cabernet quality which is very Médocain, this is absolutely one to look out for, packed with estate signature. 30% new oak. 43% of total production. 4% Petit Verdot completes the blend. Lovely new label here also, with rose gold roses across it."

A great vintage ending in “9”
2019 marked an important step in the progression of our environmental approach, which now concerns the entire vineyard. This year, the good climatic conditions combined with our “green” farming methods enabled us to obtain a beautiful harvest combining quality and quantity. A great vintage ending in “9” and one of the hottest of the past decade. The exceptionally mild and dry winter was marked by temperatures above average for the season. On 13 and 14 April, our vineyard, which benefits from the moderating influence of the estuary, was
spared from frost. The rains in the two first weeks of June led us to fear the development of disease but the vines remained in very good health and we maintained our environmental course. During the two heatwaves in June and July, our clay soils and their great capacity to regulate water allowed the vines to avoid water stress. Full flowering, uniform and quick, took place during the first
week of June. The first signs of colour change appeared from 30 July. A uniform veraison followed, slowed down by cool and rainy weather in August.
Despite some intermittent rain harvest took place under good conditions from 19 September to 8 October. Our intra-plot picking followed by tailor-made vinification allowed us this year to obtain 80 batches of free-run wine and 7 batches of press wine for our blends. The high quality of the Merlot batches allowed us this year, as in 2009, to increase the proportion of this grape variety in the final blend to 30%.

The first tastings suggest a vintage very close to the 2016 with a beautiful structure of ripe, precise, concentrated tannins placing it among the great vintages of Montrose.

The 2019 Le Marquis de Calon Ségur is a stunning wine. Dark cherry, blackberry jam, plum, gravel, menthol, licorice, inky spice and new leather meld together in a Saint-Estèphe that is rich, unctuous and potent to the core. In the glass, the 2019 is virile and expansive, with tremendous depth, persistence and aromatic breadth. Not a timid wine, the 2019 packs plenty of punch and 15.1% alcohol that is remarkably well-integrated.

The 2019 Les Pagodes de Cos has an intriguing bouquet that takes time to settle in the glass. When it finally does, it reveals well-defined blackberry, raspberry and briary aromas, a touch of undergrowth/damp moss too. Where it really delivers is on the elegant palate framed by fine-boned tannins and a fine bead of acidity. A Pauillac-like, pencil lead tinged finish, that dare I say, is reminiscent of Lafite-Rothschild! This is well worth seeking out.

Harvest for the grand vin began on the 23rd of September and finished on the 7th of October. Composed of 65% Cabernet Sauvignon and 35% Merlot (with no Petit Verdot or Cabernet Franc this year), yields for this wine in 2019 were 43 hectoliters per hectare, and it is aging in 55% new oak. It came in at an alcohol level of 14.02% and an IPT of 67. Medium to deep garnet-purple colored, the 2019 Cos d'Estournel soars out of the glass with vibrant black raspberries, Black Forest cake and crushed blackcurrants scents plus nuances of red roses, wild sage, dark chocolate and cast-iron pan with a waft of woodsmoke. The medium to full-bodied palate is taut, muscular and built like a skyscraper, with firm, grainy tannins and seamless freshness supporting the concentrated black fruit flavors, finishing with incredible length and depth. This wine so beautifully, clearly captures the juxtaposition between the periods of dry heat and those hallelujah moments of refreshing rain - the hallmarks of this great vintage. It's a vinous masterpiece in the making.

A very powerful and structured Cos. It’s full and layered, but not overpowering in terms of fruit. It’s more about the abundant, very fine tannins. It’s a classic wine with historical grip and power. Real Bordeaux. Sophisticated and provocative.

96-98 Punkte vom Vinous-Team für den Chateau Cos d Estournel 2019 Saint Estephe Neal Martin bewertet den Chateau Cos d Estournel 2019 Saint Estephe im Mai 2020:

The 2019 Cos d'Estournel was picked from 23 September to 7 October at 43hl/ha and matured in a judicious 55% new oak. It marks a serious and tangible upgrade over the Les Pagodes as you would expect: far more intensity, more fruit and complexity. It delivers gorgeous, very pure scents of blackberry, raspberry, crushed stone and just a hint of truffle. The palate is medium-bodied with fine-grain tannins, pitch perfect acidity and a satin-like texture. One of the most harmonious Cos d'Estournel that I have encountered in barrel and, though it is not quite touching the same ethereal level, it reminds me of the 2016 towards the finish. Utterly divine.
