Der 2019er La Dame de Montrose, den ich im Juni und September 2021 verkostet habe, hat ein frisches Bouquet von Maulbeeren, schwarzen Pflaumen und granitbedingter Frische, das ziemlich frühreif ist; im Hintergrund erscheinen Noten von Morcheln. Der Gaumen ist mittelkräftig mit feinkörnigen Tanninen, ziemlich strukturiert und fast Pauillac-artig, dank Adern von Graphit zum Finish hin, die durch die 48% Cabernet Sauvignon beigesteuert werden. Salziger Nachgeschmack, wenn auch nicht übermäßig lang, dies ist ein sehr vielversprechender Zweitwein.

Just as it was from barrel, the 2018 Duhart-Milon is a real powerhouse. Black cherry, gravel, spice, espresso and savory herbs infuse the 2018 with notable depth and power. A brooding, virile wine, the Duhart-Milon packs a serious punch. I would give it a few years to soften. The 2018 has really come together since en primeur. In fact, the bottled wine bears little semblance to the en primeur sample, which is a very good thing. There is real density and weight here, with all of the natural richness of the year.

The 2018 Duhart-Milon is composed of 65% Cabernet Sauvignon and 35% Merlot. With 14% alcohol, it has a deep garnet-purple color and a seductively ripe, opulent nose of plum preserves, blackberry pie and chocolate-covered cherries with hints of spice cake, potpourri, sandalwood and eucalyptus oil. Medium-bodied, it is jam-packed with rich, spicy black fruit preserves, with floral accents and a velvety texture, finishing long and fragrant. So. Good.

The grand vin represents 50% of the crop this year. Deep garnet-purple colored, it charges out of the gate with bold scents of baked plums, ripe blackcurrants and wild blueberries, followed by hints of cedar chest, pencil lead, bouquet garni and charcuterie, plus a waft of lilacs. The medium-bodied palate is beautifully crafted with its seamless freshness and firm, grainy tannins supporting the compelling, finely knit black fruits and savory nuances, finishing on a lingering fragrant-earth note. This will need a good 5 years to come around and should easily cellar for another 30 years or more.

The 2018 Château Pichon-Longueville Comtesse De Lalande is a monster of a wine with an almost Château Latour-like stature and structure, offering deep, backward, slightly reductive notes of blackcurrants, crushed stone, scorched earth, lead pencil shavings, and tobacco leaf. Based largely on Cabernet Sauvignon mixed with 23% Merlot, 5% Cabernet Franc, and 1% Petit Verdot, it's full-bodied, concentrated, and powerful on the palate, with masses of tannins, beautiful mid-palate density, and a great finish. As I've commented previously, the up-front, sexy style of the past (due to the larger Merlot content, I believe) has been replaced by a more regal, at times austere profile. Nevertheless, it's still its own wine and very Pichon Longueville Comtesse de Lalande in style. This 2018 is going to need 5-7 years of bottle age and will evolve for 40+ years.

Der Meyney 2023 wird von Antonio Galloni von Vinous mit 91-93/100 bewertet und präsentiert sich als hervorragend. Seidig und poliert zeigt der 2023er eine Seite von Meyney, die ich bisher nicht gesehen habe. Es gibt auch eine hervorragende Frische und allgemeine Lebendigkeit. Dunkle rote Pflaume, Blutorange, Kreide, Minze und getrocknete Kräuter sind alle wunderschön abgegrenzt. Am meisten bewundere ich die Anmut des Weins. Laut Neal Martin von Vinous erhält der Meyney 2023 eine Bewertung von 89-91/100. Überraschenderweise ist der 2023er Meyney auf der Nase eher zurückhaltend mit Aromen von Brombeere, Kirsche, einem Hauch von schwarzem Pfeffer und erdigen Nuancen. Er bleibt im Glas zurückhaltend, gewinnt aber an Reinheit. Am Gaumen mittelkräftig mit feinkörnigen Tanninen. Vielleicht etwas konservativ im Stil, er bleibt im Rahmen des Jahrgangs, fühlt sich aber stimmig an. Was fehlt, ist nur ein wenig Griff und Dichte im Abgang. Fein. Der Meyney 2023 wird als hervorragend und eigenständig beschrieben, mit seiner seidigen Textur, Frische und geschliffenen Eleganz. Tasted twice in Bordeaux in the early part of 2017. the 2014 Montrose replicated its showing at the property as part of the vertical in September 2016. It has that exquisite blackberry. cedar and blood orange scented nose that feels so effervescent even at this early stage. The palate is beautifully balanced with crisp. tensile black fruit. filigree tannin. perhaps in recent months developing a little more spiciness on the finish. It is just a beautiful. regal and complete Montrose that will give decades of drinking pleasure. Tasted February 2017.

Tasted at the château. the 2014 Montrose builds on the promise it showed in barrel with gorgeous blackberry. raspberry. cedar and orange sorbet scents that are extremely pure and refined. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannin. very precise acidity and layers of crisp black fruit laced with vanilla from the new oak at the moment. That will be subsumed in time. What you have here is a very precise. multi-layered. almost sensual Montrose that is going to delight many for years to come. This is highly recommended—one of the finest Left Bank wines this vintage. Tasted September 2016.

The palate is silky-smooth on the entry and very cohesive and harmonious. Though there is a little new oak to be subsumed, that will happen over the next 2–3 years. Showing great depth and composure on the finish, this is a wonderful Pauillac that will give 30 or 40 years of drinking pleasure.
