A blend of 82% Merlot and 18% Cabernet Franc. the 2015 Hosanna had a medium garnet-purple color. charging out of the glass with an exotic perfume of smoked meats. truffles. sandalwood and Indian spices over a compelling core of cherry cordial. blackberry tart and blueberry compote plus suggestions of garrigue and rose hip tea. The full-bodied palate is absolutely laden with taut. muscular black and blue fruits. with a solid frame of grainy tannins and just enough freshness. finishing with languidly lingering licorice and spice flavors. Incredibly seductive and just plain delicious right now. hedonists can enjoy this captivating wine while it’s relatively young. while traditionalists can wait ten years and drink it over the next 25 years or more.

The 2015 Hosanna is a blend of 82% Merlot and 18% Cabernet Franc. Now Hosanna is usually quite exuberant on the nose at this early stage. however. this is a very different Hosanna - much more reserved and introverted. yet still complex with a melange of black fruit. undergrowth. truffle and brine aromas. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannin. plenty of truffle-tinged fruit. a lovely spicy edge and a persuasive peacock's tail finish that lingers long in the mouth while maintaining wonderful freshness. This is an outstanding Hosanna from the JP Moueix team. perhaps the first vintage to really convince me of its greatness since its debut.

War er nasal vielleicht zaghaft. so zeigt er im Gaumen Fülle und Aromatik. beim Schlürfen entwickelt sich ein richtig gehendes Cassis-Inferno. Komplex. aber nicht kompliziert. Irgendwie wird das ein Modell Immerschön. Also ganz toll bereits in der Jugend und dann lange gross im Alter.

The 2015 Vieux Château Certan is every bit as magnificent from bottle as it was from barrel. Rich. sumptuous and explosive in the glass. the 2015 is pure class. The flavors are deep and boldly sketched in this sumptuous. spectacularly ripe Pomerol. Inky blue/purplish fruit. spice. lavender. licorice and menthol all develop in the glass. but it is the wine's textural richness and intensity that stand out most. As good as the 2015 is today. it is going to need at least 15-20 years to be at its very best. Is there anything more I can ask of the 2015? No. there is not. This is a tremendous showing.

The 2015 Vieux Chateau Certan was bottled in mid-May as usual. This was one of the wines of the vintage out of barrel. and now it has a compelling bouquet with blackberry. smoke and iris. There is wonderful delineation here. a cerebral bouquet that is quite mercurial in the glass. traces of black truffle emerging with aeration. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannin and just a killer line of acidity. a Vieux Chateau Certan surfeit with energy and joie de vivre. It fans out in glorious. almost swaggering fashion with truffle and white pepper. a touch of truffle on the persistent finish. This is clearly destined to be one among the canon of legendary wines from the estate although it does deserve requisite cellaring. This is one of the wines of the vintage. Anticipated maturity: 2025 - 2055.

The 2018 Vieux Château Certan is a very pretty wine built more on elegance. finesse and aromatic nuance. Relative to the recent past. the 2018 shows a much more mid-weight structure and less of the creaminess of either 2015 or 2016. Much of that is attributable to a blend that includes 30% Cabernet Franc. Lavender. rose petal. mint and blueberry fruit all grace the 2018. Far from an obvious wine. the 2018 is going to need a number of years to be at its best. as it is a wine of total understatement and class. Fine beads of tannin support the understated finish. In 2018. VCC is a wine of refinement and subtlety more than anything else. I don't see the same visceral thrill as in a number of vintages of the recent past. Perhaps that will come in bottle.

Medium-bodied. the palate exudes polish and sophistication with bags of fragrance. freshness and energy. sporting exquisitely fine-grained tannins and finishing very long and minerally. The 2016 La Conseillante is a brilliant wine from the team led by Technical Director Marielle Cazaux. Polished and sophisticated. the 2016 possesses stunning vertical lift. with soaring aromatics that make a strong first impression. Silky and seductive on the palate. the 2016 is all about precision and energy in the early going. It is also one of the most quite. soft-spoken Pomerols of the vintage. Hints of blackberry. lavender. licorice and spice add nuance. but in 2016 La Conseillante stands out for its sublime balance and total sense of harmony. The 2016 spent 17 months in oak. 70% new. As gorgeous as the 2016 is. my impression is that the best is yet to come. Since arriving at La Conseillante. Cazaux has changed much in the farming of the property. including introducing cover crops and limiting yields. She also now works with no sulfites in winemaking and opts for lower temperatures in fermentation. In other words. the full results of all of that work is yet to be seen. For now. though. the 2016 Conseillante is a pretty special wine. Don't miss it. Tasted two times.

The aromas of violets and dark berries with licorice and sweet black tea are so attractive. What really impresses is the sweet fruit in the dense middle palate. So attractive. At the same time. there’s plenty of plush and ripe tannins that give the wine form and brightness. And it still remains bright on the finish. as the tannins roll on. A great Conseillante. Try after 2024.

Die Nase ist reich an dunklen Früchten, fantastisch diese etwas verspielte Würze in der Nase. Im Mund spielt er seine Komplexität voll aus. Unquestionably in the same league as Trotanoy, Le Gay, Lafleur, Hosanna, and the other leviathans of the region, its deep purple hue is followed by a gorgeously layered, multi-dimensional 2018 with full-bodied aromas and flavors of black raspberry and blackcurrant fruits intermixed with spring flowers, dried herbs, and a hint of white truffle. Medium to full-bodied, with stunning symmetry and balance, its tannins are ripe and polished, and it has nicely integrated acidity as well as a great finish. It should drink well for another 20-25 years.

As always, Feytit-Clinet is one of the most virile, potent wines of Pomerol and all of Bordeaux, for that matter. The blend is 92% Merlot and 8% Cabernet Franc. Tasted three times.
