Full-bodied. rich and decadent. it fills the palate with generous perfumed black and blue fruit layers with a seductive frame of velvety tannins and seamless freshness. finishing very long and very minerally.

The depth of fruit and length to this is spectacular with blackberry. wet earth. dark bitter chocolate and blueberry character. It’s full and powerful and absolutely seamless. Perhaps the greatest wine ever made here. 93% merlot and 7% cabernet franc.

The 2015 Trotanoy is a blend of 93% Merlot and 7% Cabernet Franc. It has a fragrant bouquet. unusually understated and introverted for Trotanoy. with tightly wound. gravel-scented black fruit. touches of dried orange peel and truffle in the background. The palate is medium-bodied with fine. tensile tannin. Again. this feels compact. dense. a coiled spring perhaps. but there is plenty of energy here. Perhaps in the long-term. the Hosanna and the La Fleur Petrus might be the picks from JP Moueix in this great Pomerol vintage. but Trotanoy always springs a surprise once in bottle. Trotanoy - an enigma eternal. but we would not want it any other way.

Die Legende lebt! Mit dem 2015er beweist der Trotanoy wieder einmal mehr. dass er zu den ganz grossen und unter den ganz Grossen zu den langlebigsten Pomerol gehört. Christian Moueix. der Besitzer dieses 7.2 Hektar kleinen Weingutes ist sonst in der Regel eher zurück haltend mit der Einschätzung seiner Crus. Aber hier fiel sehr bald der Begriff «trés grand». als wir über den Wein sprachen. Trotanoy ist kein spontaner Primeurwein. Meist ist in der Assemblage noch kein Presswein oder nur wenig davon drin. Der wird in der Regel erst während dem Ausbau integriert und gibt ihm dann den gewissen Zusatz-Kick. Und den muss man bei der Verkostung antizipiert dazu addieren. Das habe ich gemacht. Und bin bei der Maximalwertung gelandet. So wie schon beim 1961er. beim 1998er und beim 2009er!

Extrem dunkles Purpur mit lila und violetten Reflexen. Während andere Moueix-Pomerols mit intensiver Frucht anfingen. schöpfte dieser nasal barock anmutende Trotanoy seine Aromen eher aus der Tiefe und zeigte Trüffel-. Leder- und dezente Korinthenspuren. Erst im zweiten Nasenansatz kamen Brombeeren und Backpflaumen zum Zug. Er legte nach dem Einschenken permanent zu und ich liess mir gut drei Minuten Zeit ehe ich ihn in den Gaumen nahm. Im Gaumen erhaben. mächtig. hoch reife Tannine. aber trotzdem eine verlangende Adstringenz aufweisend. nachhaltiges Finale. Wer hier nicht warten kann. soll darauf verzichten.

The flavors are deep and boldly sketched in this sumptuous. spectacularly ripe Pomerol. Inky blue/purplish fruit. spice. lavender. licorice and menthol all develop in the glass. but it is the wine's textural richness and intensity that stand out most. As good as the 2015 is today. it is going to need at least 15-20 years to be at its very best. Is there anything more I can ask of the 2015? No. there is not. This is a tremendous showing.

The 2015 Vieux Chateau Certan was bottled in mid-May as usual. This was one of the wines of the vintage out of barrel. and now it has a compelling bouquet with blackberry. smoke and iris. There is wonderful delineation here. a cerebral bouquet that is quite mercurial in the glass. traces of black truffle emerging with aeration. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannin and just a killer line of acidity. a Vieux Chateau Certan surfeit with energy and joie de vivre. It fans out in glorious. almost swaggering fashion with truffle and white pepper. a touch of truffle on the persistent finish. This is clearly destined to be one among the canon of legendary wines from the estate although it does deserve requisite cellaring. This is one of the wines of the vintage. Anticipated maturity: 2025 - 2055.

50 % Cabernet Sauvignon. 47 % Merlot. 2 % Petit Verdot. 1 % Cabernet Franc. Extrem dunkles Purpur mit lila und violetten Reflexen. Extrem dunkelbeerig mit vielen Rauchnuancen. Lakritze. dunklen Edelhölzer. Guinness-Biermalz und Black Currant im ersten Ansatz. Nach ein paar Minuten kommt eine feine Zimtnuance zum Tragen. Heidelbeerenmark und Tahiti-Vanilleschote. Das Aromenpaket ist in sich gekehrt und bleibt noch etwas im Innern obwohl der Wein gleichfalls auch verschwenderische Ansätze zeigt. Ausgeglichene. royale Adstringenz aufweisend. cremiges Extrakt mit massiver. aber nicht überladener Konzentration. bleibt blaubeerig und hat in sich eine nicht erklärbare Faszination. Trotz der absolut modernen Vinifikation bleibt er irgendwie klassisch. Nach dem Spucken blieb er minutenlang im Gaumen zurück. Und mir blieb dabei förmlich die Spucke weg. Das war mein grösster Pape-Clément als Jungweinprobe. Fünf Mal verkostet. Er ist momentan der beste Pessac-Léognan. Mit der Gefahr. dass ihn Haut-Brion oder Mission einmal ein- möglicherweise überholen werden. Aber vor 20 Jahren wird dies nicht der Fall sein!

The 2019 La Fleur-Pétrus has an entrancing bouquet that demands your attention, delivering a mixture of red and black fruit, licorice, fresh fig and potpourri. The oak here is beautifully integrated. The palate is very harmonious, with ripe, succulent tannins that frame the concentrated black cherry and red plum fruit, and a dash of white pepper and sage, fanning out wonderfully toward the finish. It’s almost like a slightly toned-down version of the Hosanna. This exceeds my expectations. A brilliant Pomerol.

The 2019 Château La Fleur-Pétrus is a stunning example of what makes a great Pomerol – richness without weight, incredible elegance, complexity, and length, all of which it has in abundance. Giving up darker, powerful aromatics of blackcurrants, darker cherries, tobacco, chocolate, and just hints of spring flowers, it hits the palate with full-bodied richness, a layered, concentrated, incredibly sexy mouthfeel, perfect tannins, and a great finish. It's one of the most opulent, seamless, impressive wines in the vintage, although it needs at least 7-8 years of bottle age. It should be a 30- to 40-year wine. Bravo!

The 2019 La Fleur-Pétrus is pure and total seduction. Trotanoy and perhaps also Hosanna have traditionally been viewed as more exclusive Pomerols in the Moueix portfolio. The more time passes, the less I share that view. Sure, La Fleur-Pétrus does not have the mystique associated from a small single vineyard - as many Pomerols do - and yet there is no denying the elegance and class here. Bright red fleshed fruit, blood orange and exotic spice race across the palate, framed by silky, plush tannins that wrap it all together. La Fleur-Pétrus is fabulous. That's all there is to it.

Relative to the recent past. the 2018 shows a much more mid-weight structure and less of the creaminess of either 2015 or 2016. Much of that is attributable to a blend that includes 30% Cabernet Franc. Lavender. rose petal. mint and blueberry fruit all grace the 2018. Far from an obvious wine. the 2018 is going to need a number of years to be at its best. as it is a wine of total understatement and class. Fine beads of tannin support the understated finish. In 2018. VCC is a wine of refinement and subtlety more than anything else. I don't see the same visceral thrill as in a number of vintages of the recent past. Perhaps that will come in bottle.

The 2016 La Conseillante is a brilliant wine from the team led by Technical Director Marielle Cazaux. Polished and sophisticated. the 2016 possesses stunning vertical lift. with soaring aromatics that make a strong first impression. Silky and seductive on the palate. the 2016 is all about precision and energy in the early going. It is also one of the most quite. soft-spoken Pomerols of the vintage. Hints of blackberry. lavender. licorice and spice add nuance. but in 2016 La Conseillante stands out for its sublime balance and total sense of harmony. The 2016 spent 17 months in oak. 70% new. As gorgeous as the 2016 is. my impression is that the best is yet to come. Since arriving at La Conseillante. Cazaux has changed much in the farming of the property. including introducing cover crops and limiting yields. She also now works with no sulfites in winemaking and opts for lower temperatures in fermentation. In other words. the full results of all of that work is yet to be seen. For now. though. the 2016 Conseillante is a pretty special wine. Don't miss it. Tasted two times.
