As good as the 2015 is today. it is going to need at least 15-20 years to be at its very best. Is there anything more I can ask of the 2015? No. there is not. This is a tremendous showing.

The 2015 Vieux Chateau Certan was bottled in mid-May as usual. This was one of the wines of the vintage out of barrel. and now it has a compelling bouquet with blackberry. smoke and iris. There is wonderful delineation here. a cerebral bouquet that is quite mercurial in the glass. traces of black truffle emerging with aeration. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannin and just a killer line of acidity. a Vieux Chateau Certan surfeit with energy and joie de vivre. It fans out in glorious. almost swaggering fashion with truffle and white pepper. a touch of truffle on the persistent finish. This is clearly destined to be one among the canon of legendary wines from the estate although it does deserve requisite cellaring. This is one of the wines of the vintage. Anticipated maturity: 2025 - 2055.

Simply put. this is one of the best L’Eglise-Clinet wines I have tasted in recent years. Stunning.

Seit 2009 ist eine Auswahl von Kiesparzellen im nordöstlichen Teil des Weinguts dem Espérance de Trotanoy gewidmet, einem Wein, der nach nur wenigen Jahren des Kellerns fruchtbetont und zugänglich ist, aber die Tiefe beibehält. Komplexität und Konzentration des Geschmacks, die für Trotanoys Terroir charakteristisch sind. Der Trotanoy-Weinberg, der sich in einem der am besten exponierten Gebiete des Plateaus befindet und teilweise von den dramatischen Frösten von 1956 verschont bleibt, fällt sanft nach Westen ab. Der Boden ist eine sehr dichte Mischung aus Ton und Kies, die dazu neigt, sich zu verfestigen, wenn sie nach dem Regen zu einer fast betonartigen Härte austrocknet, daher der Name „Trot-Anoy“ - „zu mühsam“, um sie zu kultivieren. Der Boden am höchsten Punkt der Exposition enthält einen guten Anteil an Kies, der mit abnehmender Höhe zunehmend von Ton dominiert wird. Unter diesem Ton befindet sich ein Untergrund aus rotem Kies und eine undurchlässige Schicht aus hartem, eisenreichem Boden, die als „Crasse de Fer“ bekannt ist. Von einem Weingut, das in letzter Zeit eine unglaubliche Erfolgsserie hatte – vor allem dank der Talente von Direktor David Suire – zeigt der 2020 Château Laroque den kühleren, kalksteinbetonten Stil des Terroirs auf wunderschöne Weise. Er präsentiert eine klare, fokussierte Stilistik mit dunklen (fast bläulichen) Beerenfrüchten, kreidiger Mineralität, Veilchen, Gewürzen und floralen Nuancen. Am Gaumen mittelkräftig, ist dieser fokussierte, gradlinige und bemerkenswert reine Saint-Émilion von großartiger Tiefe im Mittelgaumen und einem hervorragenden Abgang. Er sollte, wenn möglich, für solide 4–5 Jahre im Keller verborgen bleiben und wird eine Langlebigkeit von 30 Jahren haben. Wenn er schon bald getrunken wird, sollte er für eine Stunde in der Karaffe belüftet werden.

Fleischige dunkle Pflaume, Kies, Gewürze, Menthol, Lakritze und Pfeifentabak geben den 2020 Tonnen Nuancen. Laroque ist personifizierter. Der Winzer David Suire macht hier wichtige Arbeit.

It's another outstanding wine from this château.

The 2019 Lafleur-Gazin has become more refined and focused on the nose of ample black cherry, raspberry and plummy fruit, touches of pressed violets and rose petals percolating through with aeration. The palate is medium-bodied with pliant tannins, fresh acidity, a slightly lactic texture and veins of dark chocolate complementing the finish. This will need time in bottle, but it should end up a fine Pomerol.
