Chateau Hosanna Pomerol

Im Frühjahr 1999 erwarb J.P. Moueix das Chteau CERTAN GIRAUD von der gleichnamigen Familie. Das Haus wurde in zwei Teile geteilt, von denen ein weiter Teil wieder verkauft wurde. Die verbleibende Fläche , befindet sich auf dem berühmten Plateau des Pomerol , der verbleibende Teil würde in Chateau Hosanna benannt. Es liegt direkt Chateau Petrus zugewandt. Ebenfalls liegen die Weingärten zwischen Chateau Lafleur und Vieux Chateau Certan. Der rote Kiesboden hat Tonschichten, die Reben sind zwischen 25 bis 50 Jahren alt, mit einem Durchschnitt von 40 Jahren. Als Besonderheit kann man bei Hosanna den sehr hohen Anteil von Cabernet Franc nennen. Seit der Übernahme wurden im Weinberg umfangreiche Arbeiten durchgeführt, einschliesslich der Installation neuer Drainage und Brunnen. Chateau Hosanna verbindet stilistisch Eleganz mit Tiefe und konnte sich dank des zarten Cabernet Franc, eine Image des weiblichen Pendant zu Chateau Petrus erarbeiten.

Château Hosanna, a jewel-like vineyard of just 4.5 hectares, is located in the heart of Pomerol’s central plateau, adjacent to some of the most illustrious crus of the appellation: Château Lafleur to the north; Château Petrus to the east; Château La Fleur-Pétrus to the west; Vieux Château Certan to the south.
The vineyard of Château Hosanna has a long and rich history. Prior to its purchase by Ets. Jean-Pierre Moueix in 1999, Hosanna was known as Château Certan Giraud, considered one of the premier crus of Pomerol since the 1950’s. It was originally part of the de May family estate, who settled on Pomerol’s plateau in the 16th century and planted one of the appellation’s first vineyards there.
Only the highest plateau parcels of its previous incarnation were selected to form Château Hosanna. The vineyard enjoys a terroir of red gravel and clay on “crasse de fer” which is known for producing wines of great elegance, complexity, and power. Old Cabernet Franc vines, a significant portion of which date back to 1956, contribute a unique complexity to the cru.
A marriage of intensity, purity and balance, its silky touch has led some to describe Hosanna as the feminine counterpart to Trotanoy.

Close to perfection. this extraordinary blend of 80% Merlot and 20% Cabernet Franc seems to have hit all the high notes in 2012. Inky ruby/purple with stunning concentration. a multidimensional mouthfeel. skyscraper-like texture and fabulous purity of blue. red and black fruits. this is a tour de force from this estate owned by Christian Moueix. The potential complexity and sheer compelling quality of Hosanna is amazing. Aromatically. this may be the most profound wine of the vintage. Drink it over the next 15-20 years.

The 2019 Hosanna is fabulous, just as it was from barrel. Inky, rich and explosive, the 2019 possesses off the charts fruit intensity. As always Hosanna leans towards the dark side of black/blue fruit. An exotic mélange of tar, gravel, licorice, incense and spice builds in the glass, filling out the layers effortlessly. Soft contours give Hosanna its allure, but I would not be in any rush here. The balance of opulent fruit and structure makes for a super-compelling Pomerol.

Another beautiful Pomerol, the 2019 Château Hosanna comes from a small 11-acre vineyard composed of a mix of gravel and clay soils. Its deep ruby/plum color is followed by a terrific perfume of spiced red and black cherries, blueberries, leafy tobacco, damp earth, and chocolate. It gains richness and depth with time in the glass and is medium to full-bodied, has a plush, seamless texture, gorgeous tannins, and no hard edges. It epitomizes the elegance paired with opulence that only Pomerol seems capable of producing. This beauty is already impossible to resist (it needs a decant) yet will evolve for 30 years or more.

The 2019 Hosanna is a Pomerol that demands, and deserves, attention. The 2016 Hosanna is composed of 85% Merlot and 15% Cabernet Franc. Medium garnet-purple colored. it comes spilling out of the glass with the most beautiful floral perfume of lilacs and lavender over a core of black and red cherries. black raspberries and cedar chest plus hints of tobacco and chocolate mint. Medium to full-bodied. the palate is elegantly styled with beautiful floral and cherry layers framed by velvety tannins. finishing long and fragrant.

Such a polished wine from the outset. This has a very deep thread of dark plums. black stones and dark cocoa powder. running from nose to palate. The finish is swathed in rich and plush tannins and delivers profound depth with unblemished fruit purity. Stunning Pomerol. Try from 2023.

Er versprüht direkt eine sehr angenehme und reife dunkelbeerige Frucht, sehr tiefgründig und von Blaubeere über Cassis zu Schwarzkirsche. Auch eine mineralische Kühle ist wahrzunehmen. Etwas Graphit ist auch im Spiel. Im Mund saftig, fleischig und kraftvoll, die Tannine sind reif und doch stützend. Tolle Aromatik und saftigkeit bei aller Kraft, ist er animierend und trinkig. Ein aromatischer langer Nachhall.

Antonio Galloni von Vinous lobt den 2023 Hosanna als einen klassischen Wein dieses Weinguts. Er erwähnt die reiche und überschwengliche Natur des Weins mit dunklen Fruchtaromen, Mokka, neuem Leder, Lakritze und Schokoladennoten. Galloni hebt die texturale Breite, Fülle und den dunklen Geschmacksprofil hervor, die von alten Reben aus den 1950er Jahren stammen. Ein Teil der Fläche wurde Anfang der 2000er Jahre neu bepflanzt.

James Suckling ist begeistert, die strukturierten und spritzigen Aromen von dunklen Früchten wie Brombeeren und Blaubeeren. Er lobt die energetischen Tannine und den endlos langen Abgang des Weins. Suckling erwähnt, dass 74% Merlot und 26% Cabernet Franc für diesen Wein verwendet wurden.

Jeff Leve vergibt 95-97 Punkte und hebt die Aromen von schwarzen Pflaumen, schwarzen Himbeeren, schwarzen Kirschen, Blumen und dunkler Schokolade hervor. Auf dem Gaumen beschreibt er den Wein als üppig, lebhaft, sinnlich und reich mit einer ernsthaften Geschmackstiefe, Konzentration und Länge. Leve sieht den 2023 Hosanna als einen seiner favorisierten Jahrgänge an und empfiehlt, den Wein von 2029-2055 zu trinken.

Für Jeb Dunnuck ist der Château Hosanna 2023 eine der Juwelen des Jahrgangs. Er lobt die Aromen von Cassis, Maulbeeren, würzigem Eichenholz, Graphit und floralen Noten. Dunnuck lobt die mittelvolle bis vollmundige Reichhaltigkeit, die nahtlose Textur, die ultrafeinen Tannine und den großartigen Abgang des Weins. Der 2021er Hosanna bietet eine solide Darbietung in der Flasche, vermengt Aromen von Cassis und minzigen Heidelbeeren mit Vorstellungen von Backschokolade, Lakritze und Bleistiftspänen. Mittel- bis vollmundig, fleischig und geschichtet, ist er für den Jahrgang vergleichsweise reichhaltig, mit süßen, pudrigen Tanninen und einem würzigen Abgang.

Eines meiner Lieblings-Châteaus, der 2021er Château Hosanna besteht zu 75% aus Merlot und zu 25% aus Cabernet Franc von 4,5 Hektar blauen Tonerdeböden im Herzen von Pomerol. Geerntet zwischen dem 24. September und dem 6. Oktober, präsentiert er sich in einem lebhaften, undurchsichtigen Purpurton mit schönen schwarzen und blauen Früchten, Eisen, Graphit und feuchter, erdiger Aroma- und Geschmacksnoten. Er ist reichhaltig, mittelschwer und verfügt über eine gute Konzentration sowie reife, aber zunehmende Tannine. Dieser quintessentielle Pomerol verdient 4-5 Jahre Flaschenalterung und wird in den folgenden 15-20 Jahren glänzen.

Dunkles Rubingranat, violette Reflexe, dezente Randaufhellung. Reife Herzkirschen, ein Hauch von Edelholz, Nuancen von Preiselbeeren und zarter Lakritze. Hey, auch bei Hosanna zeigt sich die Nase mit vielen dunklen Früchten und kleinen Waldbeeren mit einer gewissen Reserviertheit. Im Mund hat er dann eine fast schon unerwartete Eleganz. Seine Tannine wirken geschliffen, bis poliert. Das ist total in der Balance. Sein Körper ist mittelkräftig bis voll. Sein Ausklang ist aromatisch und lang. Er behält sich seine feine und saftige Struktur bei, ein vom Stil her überraschender Hosanna, wenn man die Jahrgänge 2019 und 2020 mit diesem 2022iger vergleichen möchte.

This carries to a full-bodied, rich, concentrated, firm Hosanna with plenty of tannins, good mid-palate depth, and outstanding length. I don't see this matching the truly great vintages from this château, but it's clearly an impressive Pomerol.
