Weinregion Bordeaux:
Mit dem Bordeaux oder auch Bordelais verbindet man seit jeher qualitativ hochwertigste Weine und große Namen. Das Bordeaux ist für Qualitätswein das größte zusammenhängende Weinanbaugebiet weltweit. Die über 3000 Weingüter werden "Chateaux" genannt, wobei jedes Chateaux in der Regel nur einen Erstwein produziert, einige noch einen Zweitwein. (Einige Weingüter produzieren Erst- und Zweitwein in rot und weiß). Die Region ist bekannt für trockene, langlebige Rotweine, die je nach Anbaugebiet mal kräftiger oder sanfter ausfallen. Die Weine sind vor allem als gute Essensbegleiter zu verstehen.
Neben den Rotweinen ist das Bordelais auch für seine hochwertigen edelsüßen Sauternes bekannt.

Die Cuvee besteht aus 53% Cabernet Sauvignon, 44% Merlot, 3% Cabernet Franc

2020 beendete das Jahrzehnt auf einem Höhepunkt. Einer der besten frühreifenden Sorten Jahrgänge. Als Überflieger gelang es ihm, das Beste daraus zu machen Extreme Bedingungen, um die perfekte Balance zu erreichen. Das Jahr war geprägt von einem milden Winter mit einem frühen Wachstumszyklus. dann ein sonniger, feuchter Frühling mit gleichmäßiger Blüte. Der Sommer war heiß mit Hitzewellen vom 20. Juni bis 10. August und Rekordtemperaturen über 40°C. Trotz der Hitze litten die Reben nicht darunter Wasserstress. Die Fähigkeit des Bodens, Quell- und Winterwasser zu speichern, ist vorhanden machte den Unterschied in Ton-Kalkstein-Unterböden aus. Eine Regenperiode vor dem 15. August sorgte für willkommene Erleichterung. Im Vergleich zu „normalen“ Jahrgängen begann die Ernte zwei Wochen früher. Der Cabernet und Merlot sind unglaublich aromatisch. Die Säfte sind tief- gefärbt, konzentriert und reif, während die Qualität der Tannine gleich ist sehr vielversprechend. 2020 zählt zu den großen Jahrgängen. Es ist das perfekte Beispiel dafür Bordeaux-Know-how: ein sonniger, aber frischer Jahrgang mit Mineralität und Spannung und ein vielversprechendes Alterungspotenzial.

The 2020 Laffitte Carcasset is lively on the nose with blackberry and boysenberry fruit, quite minerally and very well composed. The oak here is neatly integrated. The palate is medium-bodied with fine-grain tannins, beautifully balanced and one of the freshest Cru Bourgeois that I came across in my tastings. This comes highly recommended.

Reminding me of the 2010 with its incredible stature and class (as opposed to the more opulently styled 2009), the 2016 Château Ducru-Beaucaillou is a legendary wine from the genius of Bruno Borie, who has managed this estate brilliantly since he arrived in 2003. A blend of 85% Cabernet Sauvignon and 15% Merlot brought up all in new oak, the 2016 has a mammoth bouquet of crème de cassis, espresso, camphor, crushed violets, toasty oak, and graphite. Full-bodied, concentrated, and backward on the palate, it nevertheless has perfectly integrated acidity and building tannins, a concentrated, layered texture, off-the-charts purity of fruit, and a finish that won't quit. Give this powerful, concentrated wine a solid 7-8 years of bottle age and enjoy it over the following 50 years or more.

The wine of the vintage in Saint-Julien, if not all of the Médoc, the 2019 Château Ducru-Beaucaillou is based on 80% Cabernet Sauvignon and 20% Merlot, aged in 100% new French oak, that hit a natural alcohol of 14.2% with a monster IPT (number of tannins) of 88. It's certainly one of the most concentrated Saint-Juliens, revealing a dense purple hue to go with a stacked bouquet of crème de cassis, freshly sharpened pencils, damp clay, tobacco, and hints of spring flowers. Concentrated, full-bodied, and powerful, it has incredible tannins, flawless balance, and a gorgeous finish. While most estates today are playing it safe and producing more ethereal, elegant wines that drink well right out of the gate, thankfully, this estate continues to make concentrated, powerful, age-worthy wines, and this heavenly beauty is as good as it gets! It will need a decade of bottle age to hit the early stages of maturity and will evolve for 50 years or more. Bravo to Bruno Borie!

The 60% new oak is neatly integrated. The palate shows real vivacity and tension on the entry and delivers crunchy black fruit, touches of blue fruit and a little iodine. Sappy from start to finish, this has a real saline tang that urges you back for another sip. There is definitely is more substance compared to previous vintages, and I wager that this represents the best Branaire-Ducru in recent years. 13.7% alcohol

This estate has been on fire in recent vintages, and the 2018 Château Léoville Barton is up there with the best of them. Based on 82% Cabernet Sauvignon and 18% Merlot that was brought up in 60% new French oak, this classic, flawlessly balanced, straight-up awesome Saint-Julien has loads of cassis and mulberry fruits as well as notes of freshly sharpened pencils, leafy tobacco, chocolate, and earth. Rich, medium to full-bodied, and concentrated on the palate, it has building tannins and healthy acidity, yet the fruit is pure, perfectly ripe, and wonderfully integrated with all the wine's components. As is normal with this cuvée, it closes down with extended air and is going to take a solid 8-10 years of bottle age to reach the early stages of maturity. It's going to evolve for 30-40 years in cold cellars.
