The 2019 Charmail has an understated bouquet that unfolds with aeration, revealing pretty red berry fruit, rose petal and crushed stone. I admire the focus here. The palate is rounded, sweet and nicely poised, with nice grip. A little oak toward the finish suggests this will age with style. Very fine.

The 2019 Charmail. a recently elected Cru Bourgeois Exceptionnel. has a fragrant raspberry and wild strawberry bouquet with traces of damp moss/sous-bois. It is very well defined and "natural". The palate is fresh on the entry with breezy red berry fruit. well judged acidity. not powerful but bright and vivacious. Classic Haut-Médoc. probably quite approachable. but there is breeding here.

Deep garnet-purple colored. the 2019 Charmail rolls out of the glass with notions of plum preserves. baked cherries and fruitcake plus hints of spice box. gingerbread and pencil shavings. Medium to full-bodied. the palate has bags of spicy black fruit preserves on offer with a fine-grained frame and just enough freshness. finishing long and harmonious. Nicely done!

One of those wines that punches well above its price point, the 2018 Château Charmail comes from the northern part of the Médoc and is a mix of Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, and Petit Verdot brought up in mostly used barrels. Beautiful darker currants and cassis fruits as well as tobacco, chocolate, and damp earth give way to medium to full-bodied 2018 with a plush, rounded texture, a terrific mid-palate, silky tannins, and a great finish. It's a gorgeous wine and I think even a step up over the 2016. Enjoy bottles any time over the coming 10-12 years.

The 2019 Plince is a burly, rustic Pomerol. There is certainly a good bit of depth, but the tannins are coarse and very much present in the wine's overall feel. Dark cherry, plum, leather, licorice and game build into the hearty, resonant finish.

The 2019 Plince has a well-defined nose of blackberry, blueberry and quite potent incense/potpourri aromas that flourish with aeration. The palate is medium-bodied with firm tannins, and quite strict and linear, perhaps displaying just a bit of hardness toward the briny finish. Afford this 3–4 years in bottle – it has more to give.
