Den Quinta do Noval 2016 Late Bottled Vintage Port unfiltered verkostete Mark Squires im August 2022: "Der 2016 Unfiltered Late Bottled Vintage Port ist ein Verschnitt aus typischen Rebsorten wie Touriga Nacional, Touriga Franca, Tinta Roriz, Tinto Cão und Sousão, der fünf Jahre lang in Fässern reift. Dieser traditionelle LBV wird mit einem langen Korken und 92 Gramm Zucker geliefert (der 2015er wurde nicht veröffentlicht). Ein weiterer hervorragender LBV von einem der besten Erzeuger der Region, der vor Aromen von Erdbeeren und Kräutern nur so strotzt. Er hat eine feine Konzentration und eine angemessene Tanninunterstützung. Von der Kraft her ist er in diesem Jahr ein wenig zurückhaltend. Er sollte gut altern (das tun sie immer) und auf dem Weg dorthin an Komplexität gewinnen, was alles ist, was jetzt noch fehlt."

The 2016 Pintas Vintage Port is a field blend from old vines coming in with 100 grams of sugar. A big mouthful, this is sexy. sweet and powerful, although the fruit is winning out just now. Let it sit in the glass and you feel the tannins, though. It is firm on the finish. This has a long way to go in the cellar, but it is so expressive that I will not blame you for drinking it young. That would be a mistake. though—and it is going to close down. So, it's pretty much now or come back around 2027 or so. I suspect. When this young pup rounds into form. I suspect it will be a star. Let's be just a little conservative right now.

EIne wirkliche Spezialität ist der weisse Portwein aus den traditionell im Douro wachsenden Rebsorten. Der Character des weissen Portwein kann sich gut mit einem weichen und runden Stil mit einer reifen Frucht beschreiben lassen. Ein köstlicher Aperitif, kann aber auch als Begleiter vieler Desserts ein Genuss sein.

The 2019 Pintas Vintage Port is a field blend from more than 40 different grapes from very old vines (around 90 years). It comes in with 108 grams of residual sugar and was bottled in May 2021 after 19 months in old chestnut casks. Wine & Soul has gradually made itself into a top Port producer, easily competing with the old and big names. This is another great example, a fine companion to some brilliant ones in the last few vintages. Which is the best? This has a pretty good chance of claiming that prize, but let's come back around 2035 for a better view. In the meanwhile, it looks like one of the finest 2019s I have seen. Intensely powerful, this is a very different style, happily, than the producer's table wines.

With table wines, they avoid rusticity and make polished wines. That's not to say this is too astringent, but this Port lets it all hang out, with some old-school power and intensity. The beautiful fruit is pretty fine too, and it smells great. To be sure, it is a little subdued by the pure power today. A few days later, the lovely fruit asserts itself more. A few more days (six days from the first pour), it had hardly budged again. If someone told me that it had just been opened an hour earlier, that would've been believable. It then adds fine mid-palate finesse, never seeming ponderous but always seeming deep. This is going to need at least a decade of cellaring. That just gets you to approachability, as I don't think it will be close to ready at that point. This is all about potential, but it is so brilliant on so many levels that it makes me want to lean up on it right now. To be sure, there's a lot left to prove.

Fonseca Porto Late Bottled Vintage unfiltered 2016

Ein kraftvoller und kompromissloser unfiltrierter Late Bottled Vintage, der jede Nuance von Aroma und Geschmack bewahrt.

Tiefes, dunkles Purpurrot mit leuchtend rotem Rand. Reichhaltiges, üppiges und stark parfümiertes Bouquet. Noten von Brombeeren, Wildpflaumen, Loganbeeren, Lakritze und eine wunderbare Spannung. Moltebeeren sorgen für eine zusätzliche Schicht weicher, praller Früchte, eine Mischung aus Himbeeren und roten Johannisbeeren, mit einem Hauch blumiger Süße. Am Gaumen Gewürze, Brombeeren, Assam-Tee mit Spuren von Bitterschokolade, Kakao und einem verführerischen Hauch von Kräutern. The 2016 Late Bottled Vintage Port was bottled in May 2022 with 102 grams of residual sugar and a bar-top cork. It is a field blend aged for 72 months in wood. This is unfiltered, alone among the Fladgate Group's LBVs. Easily the most expressive of the Group's LBVs, this is still made in an accessible, easy fashion without big tannins or a lot of depth, and it is not supposed to be a wine to be held and aged a long time. In the long run, therefore, it isn't really much of a step up, if at all. Key trade-offs here, though, as with its siblings, are a great price point, lots of flavor and immediate accessibility. It is very elegant.
