Otherwise this is a thoroughly enjoyable Pessac-Léognan.

The palate is medium-bodied with sappy black fruit, quite fleshy but still nicely structured, and showing fine backbone on the sappy, white-pepper- and sage-tinged finish. Now this is promising.

The 2019 Dalem offers almost Burgundian purity on the nose, where blackberry, bilberry, crushed stone and pressed iris petal commingle. The palate is beautifully proportioned and quite saline, with fine tannins and an almost pixelated finish, which delivers superb grip and density. This is an outstanding Fronsac that will live long in the bottle. Excellent.

Readers looking for a smoking deal in the vintage should grab bottles of the 2019 Château Dalem. This rich, medium to full-bodied, mouth-filling effort has lots of ripe darker cherry and blackberry fruit as well as tobacco, cedar pencil, and violet nuances. Rich, textured, balanced, and with a real sense of purity and class, it's ideal for enjoying over the coming 10-12, if not 15 years or so.

The 2019 Rauzan-Ségla is a wine that I did not taste en primeur. Picked from September 12 to October 9 and matured in 60% new oak, it has a gorgeous, seductive bouquet of pure blackberry, bilberry, crushed iris petals and just a hint of licorice. The palate is medium-bodied with fine-grained tannins and good cohesion and depth. The oak is seamlessly integrated on the finish, which lingers like a temptress. Two samples tasted, the second demonstrating a little more salinity on the aftertaste. This will be irresistible.

The black fruits burrow downwards through the palate at first. keeping things pretty closed. everything holding its breath. before the fruit opens. There is the precision of Rauzan Ségla that is reminiscent of the 2016. less of the immediate voluptuous impact of 2018 but the density becomes extremely clear in the glass. A serious Rauzan. cassis and cedar. still with a rinse of iris flowers to give it the Margaux touch. 3.73pH. 50/50 1st and 2nd wine. A yield of 42l/ha.

The 2020 Durfort Vivens has turned out beautifully, unwinding in the glass with aromas of dark cherries and berries mingled with hints of licorice, baking chocolate and mint. Medium to full-bodied, deep and fleshy, it's layered and concentrated, with lively acids and broad structural shoulders, its generous endowment of powdery tannin asserting itself on the youthfully firm finish. Extrem duftend und floral mit Noten von Lavendel, Flieder und Veilchen, die die süßen, reifen Beeren wie Brombeeren und schwarze Johannisbeeren begleiten. Auch Anklänge von Schiefer und Graphit. Vollmundig, dabei jedoch perfekt ausgewogen und raffiniert, mit ultrafeinen Tanninen, die minutenlang anhalten. Frische Kräuter wie Lorbeerblatt und Zitronengras betonen die dunklen Fruchtnoten. Die Qualität der Tannine ist exquisit, mit wunderbarer Eleganz und Feinheit. Hält Minuten lang an. Bereits jetzt herrlich zu genießen, doch besser ab 2026.

Tief granat-purpurfarben, entfaltet der 2018er Opus One aus dem Glas strahlende, kraftvolle Noten von Boysenbeeren, warmer Cassis und reifen, saftigen schwarzen Pflaumen, ergänzt durch Nuancen von Flieder, Oolong-Tee, Zimtstange, aufgelockerter Erde und schwarzen Trüffeln. Mittel- bis vollmundig zeigt der Gaumen dicht gepackte, präzise Schichten von knackigen schwarzen Früchten, unterstützt von festen, körnigen Tanninen und fantastischer Frische. Der 2018er Opus One ist unglaublich elegant und geschliffen. Seidige Tannine und schwebende, duftende Aromen verstärken den Eindruck von Finesse, der den 2018er im Vergleich zu einigen vorhergehenden Jahrgängen deutlich unterscheidet. Es wird interessant sein zu beobachten, ob der 2018er mit ein wenig Zeit in der Flasche an Körper gewinnt. Es ist selten, dass ein Opus One in diesem Stadium so zugänglich ist
