Die Nase wirkt fast wie auch bei Valandraud, aber nicht ganz so laut und röstig. Vielmehr sind es kleine Akzente von Kirsche und roter Johannisbeere die den Wein frischer und vitaler wirken lassen. Das Holz wirkt sehr behutsam eingesetzt im Vergleich zu einigen Jahren zuvor, als wenn man etwas auf die Bremse treten wollte. Genügend Struktur ist vorhanden, der Mund öffnet sich sehr raumgreifend, die Tannine sind reif und feingliedrig, die Säure frisch. Guter saftiger Ausklang, mit Vitalität, fast tänzerisch.

A blend of 92% Merlot, 5% Cabernet Franc, and 3% Cabernet Sauvignon, it has a pure, well-oaked, yet balanced and textured style carrying beautiful red and black fruits as well as some floral, spicy background nuances. Medium to full-bodied on the palate, the tannins are ripe and nicely integrated, the balance is spot-on, and it has a great finish. I was able to taste this on multiple occasions and it always impressed.

Chateau Cantin 2022 Saint Emilion Grand Cru

Eine kurze Einschätzung zu dem Chateau Cantin 2022:

Leider habe ich dieses Chateau nicht bei den Primeur Proben verkosten können, aber ich möchte gerne auf die besondere Gelegenheit hinweisen, in Zeiten von spürbar steigenden Preisen ist es anscheinend trotzdem möglich einen sehr guten Einkauf zu machen. Aus der Region Saint Christophe des Bardes aus der so viele Super Weine in den letzten Jahren hervorkamen liegt auch eben dieses Weingut Cantin. Wenn man also zwischen den Weingütern Chateau Tour Saint Christophe, Chateau Laroque (93-94 Punkte Suckling) und Chateau Mangot (94-95 Punkte Suckling) eine Linie ziehen würde könnte man von Mangot aus über Chateau Cantin wieder zurück nach Tour Saint Christophe (95-96 Punkte Suckling) einen Bereich eingrenzen und man würde schnell feststellen, das es ganz logisch ist, dass auch das Chateau Cantin ein wunderbares Terroir besitzt und einfach teil des Epizentrums für smart Buys in Saint Emilion ist. Was macht Chateau Cantin 2022 so reizvoll? Nachdem das Chateau Mangot, Tour Saint Christophe sowie Chateau Laroque die Preise um gute 20 Prozent angehoben haben ist bei Cantin ein Preis unter 20€ en Primeur noch immer möglich, einfach sagenhaft günstig für so eine tolle Bewertung bei James Suckling. Sie haben recht, die Verkostungsnotizen von eben diesem James Suckling könnten etwas ausführlicher sein, aber er liegt oft in seiner vergleichenden Einschätzung gar nicht so verkehrt, beherzigt man dies nun, ist eigentlich Kaufalarm ausgelöst. There is intensity, richness, and concentration, as well as weightlessness on the palate. With this wine, the seamless finish must be felt, as well as tasted. This marks the highest percentage of Cabernet in the blend and with 17% press wine in the blend, it is the highest portion of press wine as well. 14.5% ABV, 3.7 pH. Super perfumed on the nose. Sharp, just shy of sour blackcurrant and black cherry on the nose and palate, vibrant. Lovely crushed stone and powdery texture to the tannins - they're prominent giving some tightness on the mid palate with a liquorice and dark chocolate edge to the frame towards the finish. Serious but well worked, lean but detailed, just a bit tense right now though does feel sculpted with a cool minty freshness on the finish. Tasted twice and kept the higher score. I think one of the legendary wines in the vintage will be the 2022 Château Les Carmes Haut-Brion, which comes from a tiny vineyard not far from Haut-Brion and is based on 40% Cabernet Franc, 34% Cabernet Sauvignon, and the rest Merlot, vinified with 70% whole clusters, and aged 70% in new barrels, 20% in foudre, and 10% in amphora. Despite mostly being not destemmed, you wouldn't know it by tasting it. It has a classic bouquet of ripe blackberries, cassis, leafy herbs, graphite, and violets, while in contrast, the C Des Carmes Haut-Brion, which is vinified with just 30% stems, is clearly marked more by its stems. Full-bodied, concentrated, beautifully balanced, and with a rare mix of purity, freshness, and power, it's going to rival the 2018 as one of the finest vintages ever produced from this address. It's worth noting this estate has a unique terroir in Pessac that includes some limestone in the soils, and this worked particularly well in 2022. Don't miss this wine.

Die Nase zeigt sich im Vergleich zu Tour Saint Christophe hellberiger, das wirk verspielter. Klare fruchtige Nase, mit schöner Cassis im Hintergrund.
Im Mund ist er erstaunlich raumgreifend, das ist vibrierend und total elegant, dennoch saftig und mit sehr guter aromatischer Mitte. Der Wein hat eine super Balance gefunden, seine Säure startet zunächst präsent und transportiert die dunkler werdende Frucht wunderbar in sein langes Finale.
