Coming from dismal yields of 12.5 hectoliters per hectare, the 2020 Château Haut-Brisson is shockingly good and another brilliant Right Bank that's going to represent a tremendous value. A blend of 90% Merlot and 10% Cabernet Franc brought up in just 35% new French oak, it has a sensational perfume of red and black cherries, leafy tobacco, chocolate, lead pencil shavings, and liquid violet-like nuances. Full-bodied, concentrated, and flawlessly balanced, it has ultra-fine tannins, remarkable purity, and a great finish. This wine comes from an 18-hectare vineyard that was purchased by Peter Kwok in 1997, only to be sold in 2020 to Bordeaux native Stéphane Schinazi. The soils here are a mix of fine gravel and granular, quartz-rich silt atop a deep clay subsoil. The farming has been certified organic since 2010, vinification spans just over three weeks in stainless steel, and the wine sees malolactic fermentation in tank and four months on lees before being moved into 35% new French oak, 35% second-fill, and the balance in third-fill barrels.

Composed of 90% Merlot and 10% Cabernet Franc, the 2020 Haut-Brisson has an alcohol of 13.8% and a pH of 3.65. It is being aged in French oak barrels, 35% new. Deep garnet-purple in color, it hits the ground running with open-knit notes of baked black cherries, mulberries and preserved plums, plus suggestions of chargrill, star anise and tar, with a touch of menthol. The medium-bodied palate practically quivers with tension, matched by a firm, grainy texture to support the intense crunchy black fruits, finishing long and savory.

Managing tannins is one of the lines that needed walking in 2020, and the warmer soils of Quinault compared to Cheval needed particular care. You find some traces of the solar nature of the summer on the nose, with eucalyptus, black pepper and rosemary spice, but there is freshness on the palate, well balanced and with density to the blackberry and black cherry fruits, finishing up with again the eucalyptus that is found in the aromatics, and a generous kick of spice. This is tightly structured, it is expertly handled but I would suggest looking to the 2019. Harvest September 3 to 23. 10 days over 30°C during that time.

Den Chateau Larcis Ducasse 2020 aus Saint Emilion beschreibt Jeb Dunnuck
TDer Grand Vin stammt aus einem winzigen 11,15 Hektar großen Weinberg, der seit 1893 im Besitz der Familie Gratiot ist. Er befindet sich an der südlich ausgerichteten Côte Pavie, zwischen Château Pavie und Château Bellefont-Belcier, und besteht aus Ton auf Kalksteinböden. Der Weinberg wird derzeit mit einer massalen Selektion und einer höheren Pflanzdichte neu bepflanzt. Die Trauben werden von Hand sortiert, die Vinifikation erfolgt ausschließlich in Beton und dauert vier Wochen, der Ausbau erfolgt in 50% neuem französischen Eichenholz. Eine normale Mischung aus 90% Merlot und 10% Cabernet Franc, erinnert mich der 2020 Château Larcis Ducasse an den 2005er und gehört zu den besten Weinen am rechten Ufer. Er hat ein brillantes Parfum von roten und schwarzen Früchten, weißen Trüffeln, blättrigem Tabak und asiatischen Gewürzen. Dies führt zu einem vollmundigen, konzentrierten, kraftvollen Larcis-Ducasse mit ultrafeinen, aber aufbauenden Tanninen, perfekter Balance, einem kompakten Mittelgaumen und einem großartigen Abgang. In 7-8 Jahren wird er beinahe perfekt sein (wahrscheinlich bewerte ich ihn um einen Punkt zu niedrig) und hat eine Gesamtlebensdauer von 30 Jahren. Mehrfach mit konstanten Ergebnissen verkostet

Eine schöne Leistung, die sinnlicher und nahtloser ist als Thienponts strukturierterer, düsterer Pavie Macquin. Der 2020 Larcis Ducasse entfaltet sich im Glas mit Aromen von Kirschen, Brombeeren, Lorbeerblatt, Rosenblättern und Lakritze. Mittel- bis vollmundig, vielschichtig und konzentriert, mit feinen Tanninen, lebhaften Säuren und einem geschmeidigen, fleischigen Profil, endet er mit einem langen, expansiven Abgang. Dies ist ein besonderer Erfolg im Jahr 2020. Unter der Leitung von Nicolas Thienpont und David Suire seit 2002 nimmt Larcis Ducasse einen 11 Hektar großen Block neben Pavie ein. Rund 15% des Weinbergs befinden sich auf dem Plateau am oberen Ende des Hangs, aber diese Parzellen werden derzeit umstrukturiert und tragen vorerst nur einen kleinen Teil zur Mischung bei, sodass es sich wirklich um einen "vin de coteaux" handelt—einen Wein von den Hängen. Der Larcis Ducasse 2020 ist ein echter Hingucker. Hell und vertikal im Gefühl, besitzt der 2020er eine enorme Energie, die zu seinem superklassischen Aufbau passt. Strahlen von Tannin und Säure geben dem Wein seine Form. Dunkle Kirsch- und Granatapfelfrucht treten hervor, mit einem Hauch von Blutorangensäure, die Frische verleiht. Graphit, getrocknete Kräuter, Menthol, Gewürze und Zeder treten mit etwas Überredung hervor, aber der 2020er ist sehr jung und sehr primär. Das verheißt natürlich eine großartige Zukunft. Der 2020er ist schlichtweg ein aufregender Larcis und eines der besten Angebote in ganz Bordeaux.

Concentrated, full-bodied, and flawlessly balanced, it has perfectly integrated oak, an incredible sense of minerality, good acidity, and a great finish. It's going to need a solid decade of bottle age but will evolve for 30-40+ years in cold cellars. The Château deserves far more attention in the market today as they’re consistently producing some of the greatest wines in a vintage.

The palate is fleshy and open on the entry, framed by distinctly malleable tannins and a plush yet controlled finish with a dash of white pepper and sage. I suspect that this Saint-Émilion will drink earlier than its peers, yet it has the substance to give up to 15, possibly 20 years of drinking pleasure.

Sowohl William Kelley vom Wineadvocate als auch Antonio Galloni von Vinous haben das Chateau Franc Mayne im JG 2020 dramatisch aufgewertet gegenüber den verhaltenen Fassproben. Bei Parker ging es von 91-93 rauf auf glatte 94 Punkte und bei Antonio Galloni von Vinous sogar noch dramatisch mehr. Von 89-91 Punkten als Fassmuster auf glatte 96 Punkte, es gibt sehr wenige Weine die das überhaupt jemals geschafft haben. Auffällig ist das sich beim Chateau Franc Mayne viele Verkoster einig sind, dass die jüngst erzeugten Qualitäten hier massiv nach oben zeigen,

Auch ich konnte den Franc Mayne 2020 auf der Prowein in Düsseldorf nachverkosten und ich kann Ihnen versichern es ist kein Zufall, dass die Verkoster das Weingut neu und höher bewerten. Es geht hier wirklich bergauf, wollen wir hoffen, dass die Preise nicht so kometenhaft steigen wie die gebotene Qualität.

Beschreibung zum Weingut Clos Apalta

Das Weingut liegt 170 Kilometer südwestlich von Santiago im Colchagua-Tal. Der Weinberg liegt in Nord-Süd-Ausrichtung. was in Chile eher selten vorkommt. Der Fluss Tinguiririca liegt auf einer Seite und die Hügel der Küstenkordilleren umgeben den Weinberg wie ein Hufeisen auf der anderen Seite. Beide Faktoren sind somit maßgeblich an der Bildung dieses einzigartigen Terroirs beteiligt. Diese Geographie ist verantwortlich für die Bedingungen. die ein Gleichgewicht für die Reben und eine langsame Reifung der Trauben gewährleisten. Bei Sonnenaufgang und Sonnenuntergang blockieren die Kordilleren die Sonnenstrahlen. wodurch die Reben keinem intensiven Sonnenschein ausgesetzt sind und der Fluss einen kühlenden Einfluss auf das Klima hat. Der Boden ist sehr vielfältig. der Clos Apalta stammt aus kolluvialen Granitböden. die leicht mit Tonschichten durchsetzt sind.

The second wine from Clos Apalta, the 2020 Le Petit Clos, was produced with the grapes from younger vines and in a different proportion than in the grand vins; it's a blend of 40% Carmenere, 38% Cabernet Sauvignon, 19% Merlot and 3% Petit Verdot from their granite soils in the warm Apalta valley from a warm and ripe year. The wine has the lush and ripe signature, with 15% alcohol, decadent and showy, with a nose of violets and camphor, ripe berries, herbs and spices and integrated oak. It fermented with indigenous yeasts, with five to six weeks of maceration, manual punch-downs and malolactic in French oak barrels. The élevage was 26 months in 53% new oak and 47% second use oak. It has the velvety tannins from a warm vintage—fine-grained and abundant—with a long finish with a bitter twist.77,580 bottles produced. It was bottled in July 2022.

Apalta is located at 170 Kilometers South West from Santiago in the Colchagua Valley. The Vineyard is situated on a North to South exposure. which is quite rare in Chile. The Tinguiririca river rests on one side and the hills from the Coastal Cordillera surround the vineyard like a horseshoe on the other. They are both integral in forming this unique terroir. This geography is responsible for the conditions that ensure balance for our vines and a slow ripening for the grapes. At sunrise and sunset. the Cordillera block the sun’s rays. limiting the vines exposure to intense sunshine and the river has a cooling influence on the climate. There is much diversity in the soil. and our Clos Apalta comes from colluvial granitic soils. lightly textured with layers of clay.

The 2018 Le Petit Clos, a second wine born in 2014, was produced with a blend of 53% Carmenere, 32% Cabernet Sauvignon, 12% Merlot and 3% Petit Verdot from organically and biodynamically certified vineyards even if the bottled doesn't carry the seals. It's ripe and powerful with the Apalta signature, earthy and stony. It fermented with indigenous yeasts in oak vats and matured in French barriques for some 22 months.
