The 2019 Haut Brisson was picked 27 September until 5 October at 41hl/ha and fermented in stainless steel with sulphur addition. It has a lovely. very pure bouquet. an equal measure of red and black fruit laced with a judicious amount of new oak. Just a dab of Thai fish oil in the background. The palate is actually a different kettle of fish: much edgier than the bouquet intimates with striking acidity and tension. a little gritty in texture and charcoal-like towards the finish. This is a fascinating Saint-Émilion. maybe a tad different to the Haut Brisson that I am accustomed to. I am fascinated to see which way it goes after bottling.

This estate makes an incredibly classic, elegant Saint-Emilion. The 2018 Château Beau-Séjour Bécot is based on 80% Merlot, 15% Cabernet Franc, and the rest Cabernet Sauvignon that was brought up in 65% new French oak. Coming from a beautiful terroir on the upper plateau, it reveals a deep purple/ruby color as well as perfumed cassis and mulberry fruits intermixed with ample spring flowers, chalky minerality, violets, and graphite. Medium to full-bodied and nicely concentrated on the palate, it has terrific mid-palate depth, flawless balance, background oak, and polished yet significant tannins. If you want to know what limestone soil gives to a wine, try this! It has the polish and balance to offer pleasure today, yet the cellar will be your friend. This warrants 5-7 years of bottle age and will have 30+ years of prime drinking.

Inky red/purplish fruit, lavender, rose petal, mint and blood orange gradually open in the glass, all framed by veins of chalky minerality. The 2018 is a fabulous wine in the making, but readers have to be patient. Time in a decanter or simply in the glass helps to bring out the wine's considerable depth.

The Cabernet Franc-dominated 2018 Château Petit Gravet Aîné (there's 20% Merlot) comes from the upper plateau in Saint-Emilion and was raised in new French oak. It's handled its élevage nicely and has just subtle vanilla and spicy oak notes as well as impressive red, black, and blue fruits intermixed with notes of acacia flowers, spice box, forest floor, and tobacco. Tighter and more backward from bottle than barrel, it's medium to full-bodied and has a balanced, elegant texture, beautiful tannins, and a great finish. It needs 3-5 years of bottle age and should have two decades of overall longevity.

Chateau Badette 2019 Saint Emilion

Red and black currants, tobacco, new saddle leather, chocolaty oak, and Provençal herb notes all emerge from the 2019 Château Badette, a ripe, opulent, seamless 2019 with loads to love. Based on 85% Merlot, 10% Cabernet Franc, and 5% Petit Verdot, it has lots of background oak yet balancing fruit, good mid-palate depth, and a great finish. It's not for the old-school Claret lovers out there, but I suspect it will turn into a classic Saint-Emilion with 5-7 years of bottle age.

The Mangot 2019 Todeschini Distique 12 is a special cuvée that celebrates the 12 years (and counting) that the Todeschini brothers have been working together at this estate and which blends 40% Cabernet Franc, 40% Merlot and 20% Cabernet Sauvignon to deliver a more structured, concentrated wine than the regular Mangot blend. Exhibiting aromas of dark berries, baking chocolate, violets and plums, it's medium to full-bodied, ample and lively, with a deep core of fruit that's framed by fine, powdery tannins. This shows plenty of potential.

Coming from dismal yields of 12.5 hectoliters per hectare, the 2020 Château Haut-Brisson is shockingly good and another brilliant Right Bank that's going to represent a tremendous value. A blend of 90% Merlot and 10% Cabernet Franc brought up in just 35% new French oak, it has a sensational perfume of red and black cherries, leafy tobacco, chocolate, lead pencil shavings, and liquid violet-like nuances. Full-bodied, concentrated, and flawlessly balanced, it has ultra-fine tannins, remarkable purity, and a great finish. This wine comes from an 18-hectare vineyard that was purchased by Peter Kwok in 1997, only to be sold in 2020 to Bordeaux native Stéphane Schinazi. The soils here are a mix of fine gravel and granular, quartz-rich silt atop a deep clay subsoil. The farming has been certified organic since 2010, vinification spans just over three weeks in stainless steel, and the wine sees malolactic fermentation in tank and four months on lees before being moved into 35% new French oak, 35% second-fill, and the balance in third-fill barrels.

Ziereisen MUS 21 Grauer Burgunder 2021 bisher Musbrugger

Info: Änderung der Bezeichnung seitens des Weingut, fortan lesen Sie nicht mehr "Musbrugger", sondern "MUS 21" auf dem Etikett.

Mineralisch, geradlinig, präzise

Wie bei Ziereisen üblich genossen auch die Trauben für den MUS 21 aus der Rebsorte Grauer Burgunder eine sehr feinfühlige Behandlung. Neben der Handlese von über 40 Jahre alten Rebstöcken finden sich die Trauben im Anschluss in einer traditionellen Korbpresse wieder. Diese ermöglicht ein betont schonendes Abpressen. Dem folgt eine langsame Spontanvergärung mit eigenen Weinbergshefen in einem großen Holzbehälter. Im Anschl uss erhält der Weißwein einen biologischen Säureabbau und ganze 20 Monate Reifezeit in Holzfässern aus heimischer Eiche. Dabei handelt es sich um bereits gebrauchte Fässer, wodurch der Holzton sehr angenehm mit den anderen Noten verwoben wird.

All das dankt der Wein dem Weingenießer mit einem ebenso komplexen wie terroirgeprägten Weinerlebnis. Man erkennt feine Eindrücke von Boskop-Apfel, Birnen und Aprikosen. Dank der oxidativen Reife werden diese fruchtigen Eindrücke aber sehr gekonnt begrenzt und schaffen Raum für interessante Reifetöne. Diese erinnern an Gebäck, einen feinen Holzton und als Konterpart auch an helle Blüten. Am Gaumen ist er angenehm mineralisch und schmelzig. Natürlich eignet er sich auch ideal als Speisenbegleiter - z.B. zu sommerlichen Salaten mit nussig-cremigem Einschlag und gehaltvollen Gerichten vom Kalb. Wir sagen: Ein Grauer Burgunder wie man ihn sich schöner nicht wünschen kann!

Vom Jahrgang 2020, damals noch unter der Bezeichnung Musbrugger, war Stephan Reinhardt vom RPWA voll des Lobes: "Der Grauer Burgunder Musbrugger 2020 von fast 50 Jahre alten Grauburgunder-Rebstöcken, der etwa 20 Monate auf der Hefe lag, bietet ein reines, tiefes und gehaltvolles Bouquet mit Aromen von reifen Früchten, die sich mit Noten von zerstoßenen Steinen, Kräutern, Haferflocken, feinen Tanninen und einem Hauch von neuem Eichenholz vermischen. Am Gaumen ist dieser Grauburgunder vollmundig, dicht und konzentriert, intensiv und kraftvoll, mit feinen Tanninen und einer eleganten, mineralischen Säure. Er ist sehr, sehr lang und salzig, mit trocknenden Tanninen, aber einem reichen Extrakt und einem komplexen Nachgeschmack." 95 Punkte gab es im November 2022.

Sweet dark cherry, chocolate, leather, licorice and mocha build into the resonant, super-expressive finish. The 2019 is a classy Fombrauge.

The 2019 Fombrauge, which was bottled in spring 2021, retains the opulence that I found from barrel, still showing that heady mixture of blackberry, blueberry and a touch of cooked meat, if perhaps just requiring a little more delineation. The palate is medium-bodied, fleshy and generous, with succulent ripe tannins, a satiny texture and a gossamer finish that slips down the throat. Afford it 5–6 years and this should evolve into a lovely Saint-Émilion.

Beim Trinken kommt seine Komplexität zum Vorschein. In der Nase zeigt er einen Hauch von reifen Früchten, Pfirsichen, gelben Äpfeln, fleischigen Rosen mit frischen und Balsamico-Noten. Am Gaumen ist er gut strukturiert. Begleitet von guter, den Gaumen reinigender Säure und der charakteristischen Würze, die von feinen Düften begleitet wird.
