The deep garnet-purple colored 2018 Cote de Baleau offers up notions of raisin cake, prunes and Chinese five spice with touches of tobacco and fallen leaves. Rich, full-bodied and very spicy in the dried berry-laced mouth, it has a chewy texture and lively lift on the finish.

The 2018 Cote de Baleau is a very pretty, understated wine built on precision and nuance. Sweet floral and spice notes add character to a nuanced, pleasant Saint-emilion that will drink well pretty much on release. This is very nicely done. The purity of the flavors is striking. Tasted two times.

Chateau Pindefleurs 2018 Saint Emilion mit 92-94 Punkte von SucklingJeb Dunnuck
Sweet crème de cassis, black raspberries, kirsch, and spicy oak emerge from the 2018 Château Pindefleurs, which is 90% Merlot and 10% Cabernet Franc from more gravelly clay soils. Elegant, medium to full-bodied, and seamless, it hits the palate with a light, graceful texture, no sensation of weight or heaviness, and sweet tannins. It’s another finesse-driven, beautiful Saint-Émilion that’s going to represent a smoking value.

96 Punkte bei Jeb Dunnuck Chateau Beau Sejour Becot 2018 Saint EmilionJeb Dunnuck im März 2021:
This estate makes an incredibly classic, elegant Saint-Emilion. The 2018 Château Beau-Séjour Bécot is based on 80% Merlot, 15% Cabernet Franc, and the rest Cabernet Sauvignon that was brought up in 65% new French oak. Coming from a beautiful terroir on the upper plateau, it reveals a deep purple/ruby color as well as perfumed cassis and mulberry fruits intermixed with ample spring flowers, chalky minerality, violets, and graphite. Medium to full-bodied and nicely concentrated on the palate, it has terrific mid-palate depth, flawless balance, background oak, and polished yet significant tannins. If you want to know what limestone soil gives to a wine, try this! It has the polish and balance to offer pleasure today, yet the cellar will be your friend. This warrants 5-7 years of bottle age and will have 30+ years of prime drinking.

The 2018 Beau-Séjour Bécot has really closed down since I tasted it en primeur. Inky red/purplish fruit, lavender, rose petal, mint and blood orange gradually open in the glass, all framed by veins of chalky minerality. The 2018 is a fabulous wine in the making, but readers have to be patient. Time in a decanter or simply in the glass helps to bring out the wine's considerable depth.

The Mangot 2019 Todeschini Distique 12 is a special cuvée that celebrates the 12 years (and counting) that the Todeschini brothers have been working together at this estate and which blends 40% Cabernet Franc, 40% Merlot and 20% Cabernet Sauvignon to deliver a more structured, concentrated wine than the regular Mangot blend. Exhibiting aromas of dark berries, baking chocolate, violets and plums, it's medium to full-bodied, ample and lively, with a deep core of fruit that's framed by fine, powdery tannins. This shows plenty of potential.

The Cabernet Franc-dominated 2018 Château Petit Gravet Aîné (there's 20% Merlot) comes from the upper plateau in Saint-Emilion and was raised in new French oak. It's handled its élevage nicely and has just subtle vanilla and spicy oak notes as well as impressive red, black, and blue fruits intermixed with notes of acacia flowers, spice box, forest floor, and tobacco. Tighter and more backward from bottle than barrel, it's medium to full-bodied and has a balanced, elegant texture, beautiful tannins, and a great finish. It needs 3-5 years of bottle age and should have two decades of overall longevity.

The medium to full-bodied palate is juicy and plush, featuring loads of fragrant earth nuances to back up the ripe red and black berry layers and bags of freshness, finishing long and perfumed. The 2019 Côtes du Roussillon Bastide Miraflors is a blend of 70% Syrah (vinified as whole bunches and aged in 20% new demi-muids) and 30% Grenache (destemmed and aged in concrete). Hints of peppery spice, vanilla and woodsmoke accent the blueberry-scented nose, while the full-bodied palate is ripe, supple and concentrated, adding hints of black cherries, chocolate and licorice on the long finish. The 2015 Malartic Lagraviere has enjoyed a fine run of form in recent vintages. This is a blend of 52% Cabernet Sauvignon and 35% Merlot with smaller portions of Petit Verdot and Cabernet Franc. It has a comparatively flamboyant bouquet for the appellation with scents of raspberry, crushed strawberry, cedar and a touch of graphite that lends it a Pauillac-like veneer. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannin, crisp acidity, more black than red fruit infused with pencil lead and smoke. It fans out wonderfully toward the finish, completing a wonderful Malartic Lagravière that will age with panache.

Etiqueta Azul 2019 Juan Gil Blue Label Jumilla 2019

The wine is ripe, oaky and heady (15.5% alcohol), but I felt a change in the oak, which seemed more integrated. When I asked Miguel Gil, he told me they had changed the toast, using less toasted barrels, from medium+ to medium, and that shows in the wine. They still believe this wine should have new oak to give it aging potential. They have also introduced optical sorting of the grapes and eliminate the raisins (by shape) and the unripe grains (by color), and that adds precision and cleanliness. 30.000 bottles were produced. It was bottled in June 2021.

A sleek and layered red, featuring a concentrated range of blackberry coulis, fig cake and mocha notes, with aromatic accents of candied violet, dried thyme and minerals. Balanced and fresh, with juicy acidity and sculpted tannins that create a firm impression on the spiced finish. Monastrell, Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah. Best from 2024 through 2029. 5,000 cases made, 1,500 cases imported. - AN

Bodegas Atalaya Juan Gil Alaya Tierra DO Almansa 2020

92+ Punkte vom Wine Advocate für den Bodegas Atalaya Juan Gil Alaya Tierra DO Almansa 2020Der Bodegas Atalaya Juan Gil Alaya Tierra DO Almansa 2020 am Gaumen von Luis Gutiérrez (29. April 2022):

The perfect Mediterranean vintage of 2020 delivered a 2020 Alaya Tierra that is very complete and powerful in its style, but with balance and depth and the clout to take the 15 months in new barriques. The wines from 2020 have more acidity and are a little less concentrated and especially balanced. This has 15% alcohol (the 2018 and 2018 had 15.5% and the 2017 had 16%). It has a little more balance and freshness, and despite the fact that the wine is very young and still marked by the élevage in barrel, it should come around with a little more time in bottle. A powerful, full-bodied, full-throttle Garnacha Tintorera. 18,000 bottles produced. It was bottled in March 2021.

Langanhaltendes Finale. 2024-2039

90 Sucklingpunkte für den Chateau Lousteauneuf 2019 Medoc, James Suckling im Dezember 2021:

Vibrant young red with dark-berry, walnut and crushed-stone aromas and flavors. It’s medium-bodied with chewy tannins and a slightly austere finish. Partially made in amphora. Petit verdot and merlot. Best after 2023.
