“2018 was complicated to vinify because of the potentially high alcohols.” Laurent Dufau. Managing Director of Calon-Ségur and Capbern informed me. “Also. you had to be very gentle with extraction. You had to be soft. so as not to extract too much. The alcohol percentage of the Merlot was concerning—some came in at 16% potential alcohol! And the Cabernet Franc this year was amazing on this terroir.” Merlot was picked from September 19 to 25. The Cabernets came in September 26 to October 5. Petit Verdot came in on October 8th. Yields were pretty good here on average in 2018: 41 hectoliters per hectare. This year marks the final stages/completion of years of vineyard restructuring. new aging cellars and a gravity-fed vat room at Château Calon-Ségur. Most notably. they have been increasing vine density and slowly working on bringing more Cabernet Sauvignon rather than Merlot on line. as was the blend traditionally. No doubt about it. quality at Calon-Ségur has been on an upward trajectory in recent years!

It's incredibly impressive, and while it offers pleasure even today, it deserves 5-6 years of bottle age, and I can't imagine it not evolving for two decades.

Dark cherry. plum. graphite. menthol. spice and licorice all build in a super-expressive. delineated yet dense Saint-Estèphe loaded with personality. The 2018 finishes with serious intensity and structure. Technical Director Fabrice Bacquey opted for cooler macerations and short cuvaisons. especially for the Merlots. as the fruit was especially rich and the wines extracted easily. while the Cabernets were fermented more or less as usual. Yields were 49 hectoliters per hectare. a bit higher than the 20-year average of 44 and inline with other recent vintages such as 2015. 2016 and 2017. The 2016 Tronquoy-Lalande has turned out beautifully. Dark. supple and mysterious. the 2016 is quite brooding in this vintage. Black cherry. grilled herbs. plum. chocolate. leather and gravel all run through this virile. potent Saint-Estèphe. The Tronquoy has gained quite a bit of structure and vertical depth in aging. whereas during en primeur it was a more supple wine.

Die perfekt ausgereiften Chardonnaytrauben wurden für den Hard Chardonnay von Hand gelesen. Die Vergärung fand zu 20% im neuen und zu 80% im gebrauchten 225L Aßmann Barrique statt. Nach der Spontangärung, also mit Weintraubeneigenen Hefen, folgte eine 22 monatige Veredlung auf der Feinhefe statt. Die Reifung auf eben diesen Hefen verleiht auch dem Hard Chardonnay eine reichhaltige Komplexität und tiefe Struktur. Der Hard Chardonnay wurde anschliessend ohne weitere Filtration abgefüllt, ein kleines Depot ist somit eine natürliche Erscheinung und Zeugnis einer ursprünglichen und unverfälschten Winzerkunst.

Im Duft eine markante Feuersteinaromatik, welche durch die Kalkböden zu dieser Ausprägung gelangt, dazu gelbes Steinobst, auch Orangenzesten, sortentypische florale Akzente und zartes Holz sind Komponenten, die Hans Peter Ziereisen hier in diesem Wein zusammenführt. Das Idealbild eines Chardonnay wie es in dieser Preisklasse nie aus dem hochpreisigeren Burgund kommen kann.  Man kann es nicht oft genug erwähnen, aber was hier auf die Flasche gefüllt wird und zu sehr fairen Preisen vermarktet wird, ist schlicht und ergreifend überragend.
 

Wie bei den Resbortenweinen im Hause Von Winning üblich. sofern man nicht von Riesling spricht. werden diese in Kategorien unterteilt: II steht für die einfachen. trinkigen Weine. die Spaß machen sollen und jugendlich am ehesten zu genießen sind. Die Weine der Kategorie I hingegen sind komplexe. vielschichtige Weine. die von Lagerung profitieren und sich erst nach Jahren Faschenreife an dem Punkt zeigen. an dem Winzergenie Stefan Atman sie haben will. Der Weingut Von Winning Chardonnay I 2019 ist stilistisch ganz klar im Burgund einzuordnen - leicht nussige Aromen treffen auf subtil eingebundenes Holz. feinste Säure. ein eleganter aber doch packender Wein. der schon erstklassig Speisen begleitet. für den großen Soloauftritt allerdings noch etwas reifen sollte.

Dahinter steckt das Winzergenie Michel Coudroy. der auch für die unfassbaren Qualitäten von Haut-Tropchaud verantwortlich ist. Wie auch bei diesem Projekt gilt hier: ein höchstmaß an Qualität zum erstaunlich fairen Preis. Wie das kommt? Nun ja. da Sie vermutlich noch nie von l'Art de Maison Neuve 2018 Montagne Saint-Emilion gehört haben. erscheint es nur logisch. dass man auf Marketing. Bemusterungen etc. keinen zu großen Wert legt und lieber die Qualität für sich sprechen lässt - darum sagen wir: unbedingt probieren!

Der Chateau Saint Roch nature red sans sulfites 2019 wird aus Trauben von circa 65 Jahre alten Reben gekeltert. Diese befinden sich, wie fast alle Rebparzellen des Chateau Saint Roch, in Höhenlagen. Geerntet wird von Hand, vergoren im offenen Tank unter Batonnage und zur Reifung geht es in gebrauchte, große Holzfuder. Nach der Abfüllung wird der Chateau Saint Roch nature red sans sulfites 2019 nicht geschwefelt! Schwefel in Wein ist für viele Menschen, gerade mit Migräne, ein Thema, da Schwefel hier triggern könnte. Auch wenn kein Wein ansatzweise die zulässigen Höchstwerte nach der Schwefelung erreicht, gibt es hier doch Wechselwirkungen - die vielleicht auch nur Kopfsache sind. Schwefel wird in Wein zur Stabilisation und Haltbarmachung eingesetzt. Ebenso pusht Schwefel ein wenig die Primärfucht. Der Chateau Saint Roch nature red sans sulfites 2019 zeigt allerdings auch nur mit dem natürlich enthaltenen Schwefel eine überzeugende Nase von Frucht, Gewürzen und Anklängen von Zartbitterschokolade. Am Gaumen saftig, komplex, mineralisch und mit samtigen Gerbstoffen. Seien Sie offen für Neues. Es lohnt sich!

A rich. fruity wine with lots of fine tannins and mineral undertones with some flowers. Medium body. pure fruit and a full finish. Drink now or hold. A blend of 55% cabernet sauvignon. 39% merlot. 3% cabernet franc and 3% petit verdot.



 

"Perfekte Balance zwischen Strenge und Fülle"

Der Tasca Regaleali Rosso 2021 wird mit der am meisten angebauten Rebsorte im Betrieb erzeugt, der Nero d’Avola, eine nicht ganz leichte Rebsorte. Um sie wirklich zu verstehen und von den anderen zu  unterscheiden, müssen die Leute von Tasca d'Almeritain in den Weinberg und die Aromalinie der Reben ziehen.Im Mittelpunkt steht die Reife des Weins. Zuerst schmeckt der Nero d’Avola herb und kräftig. Danach folgt ein Abgang mit Nuancen von reifem und konzentriertem Obst. Die Höhe der Weinberge von über 500 m und die Reifung in großen Fässern machen ihn zu einem frischen und angenehmen Wein. Nach nunmehr 65 Weinlesen nähert man sich dem Ziel, der Eleganz und eben der perfekten Balance zwischen Strenge und Fülle.

Weingut
Es war einmal in Sizilien..... Die Geschichte der Familie Tasca aus Palermo könnte auch aus einem Märchen stammen. Es begann im frühen 18. Jahrhundert, als die Familie das Gut REGALEALI kaufte. Hier gab es nur Oliven und einige Obstbäume. Es wurde der zweite Wohnsitz der „Tascas“, die neben ihrem Hauptwohnsitz VILLA TASCA in Palermo auch noch die VILLA CAMASTRA - wo Richard Wagner zeitweise an seinem Meisterwerk “Parsifal” schrieb - besaßen. In dieser Zeit investierte niemand in Sizilien in Landwirtschaft und Weinbau. Obwohl das Engagement mit einigen Schwierigkeiten begann, gab der Erfolg dem Conte Tasca recht. Die mikroklimatischen Bedingungen waren in dieser Region besonders günstig und die Reben gediehen prächtig. Heute gehört Tasca d’Almerita zu den ersten Adressen Siziliens. Neben den einheimischen Rebsorten wie Inzolia und Catarratto sowie Nero d’Avola und Perricone, werden auch Weine aus den traditionellen Rebsorten Chardonnay, Sauvignon, Merlot und Cabernet Sauvignon mit weltweitem Erfolg angebaut.
