Die Cuvee für den Jahrgang 2018 besteht aus 42% Cabernet Sauvignon. 40% Merlot und 18% Petit Verdot. Volle Konzentration mit leichter Aufhellung. Die Nase ist sehr betörend und verführerisch. reife Frucht. süssliche Würze. geröstete Nüsse. Sahnemokka. Am Gaumen super balanciert. dennoch stoffig und kompakt. überhaupt nicht anstrengend. Sehr sauberes und langes Finale. Für uns klar über 2014.2015 aber nicht an den Best Ever Meyney 2016. welchen wir noch vor der Primeurwoche im Glas hatten. da fehlt einfach ein gutes Stück.

Technical Director Anne Le Naour has done a terrific job in reining in some of the excess weight and power of previous vintages, but without sacrificing richness. The 2018 Le Marquis de Calon-Ségur is a blend of 53% Merlot and 47% Cabernet Sauvignon (14.9% alcohol). It is anticipated to age for 17 months in barriques. 30% new. Deep purple-black in color. it gives up opulent scents of Indian spices. menthol and plum preserves with a core of crème de cassis. baked cherries and raspberry pie plus a hint of sandalwood. Big. rich. full-bodied and voluptuously fruited in the mouth. it has bags of black fruit preserves and exotic spices with a firm. plush frame. finishing long with a minty lift. “2018 was complicated to vinify because of the potentially high alcohols.” Laurent Dufau. Managing Director of Calon-Ségur and Capbern informed me. “Also. you had to be very gentle with extraction. You had to be soft. so as not to extract too much. The alcohol percentage of the Merlot was concerning—some came in at 16% potential alcohol! And the Cabernet Franc this year was amazing on this terroir.” Merlot was picked from September 19 to 25. The Cabernets came in September 26 to October 5. Petit Verdot came in on October 8th. Yields were pretty good here on average in 2018: 41 hectoliters per hectare. This year marks the final stages/completion of years of vineyard restructuring. new aging cellars and a gravity-fed vat room at Château Calon-Ségur. Most notably. they have been increasing vine density and slowly working on bringing more Cabernet Sauvignon rather than Merlot on line. as was the blend traditionally. No doubt about it. quality at Calon-Ségur has been on an upward trajectory in recent years!

Chateau Ormes de Pez 2019 Saint Estephe

The 2019 Ormes de Pez has an intense bouquet of blackberry, bilberry and a touch of hoisin, but none of the smoky elements that I commented upon from the barrel sample last year. Nicely delineated and certainly less rustic than past vintages. The palate is finely tuned with a touch of bitter cherry on the entry, quite peppery, and a little stricter than I expected at the moment, leading to a granular, almost truffly finish.

This shows lots of spice, such as cloves and nutmeg, together with dark berries and cherries and some plums. It’s structured and relatively dense, with lovely length and beauty. Needs time to open and come together. 50% merlot, 40% cabernet sauvignon with cabernet franc and petit verdot. Lovely now. Try after 2024.

Coming from the Cazes team, the 2019 Château Ormes De Pez is gorgeous and shines in the vintage. Pure crème de cassis, mulberries, leafy herbs, Asian spices, and lead pencil all emerge on the nose, and this medium to full-bodied 2019 has the vintage’s pure, focused, elegant style while staying ripe, supple, and textured. The balance is spot on, and it's going to hit maturity in roughly 8-10 years and have two decades of prime drinking.

It's incredibly impressive, and while it offers pleasure even today, it deserves 5-6 years of bottle age, and I can't imagine it not evolving for two decades.

That interplay makes for an absolutely compelling wine. Red cherry fruit. mint. dried flowers. cedar and tobacco add aromatic nuance to this highly expressive. vibrant Saint-Estèphe. The 2019 Echo De Lynch-Bages is the second wine of Château Lynch-Bages and it's beautifully done, with a more floral, perfumed, pretty style compared to the Grand Vin, yet it still brings plenty of structure. Red and black currants, sappy flowers, tobacco leaf, and gravelly earth all define the bouquet, and it's medium-bodied, has integrated acidity, gorgeous tannins, and a great finish. It's beautifully balanced and already accessible, yet will nevertheless benefit from 4-5 years of bottle age.

Die Trauben werden von Hand gelesen und in kleinen Behältern angeliefert. Nach anschließender kurzer Mazeration und sanfter Ganztraubenpressung wird der Most durch natürliche Sedimentation von den Trubstoffen geklärt. Die Gärung findet bei kontrollierter Temperatur im Edelstahltank statt. Der Ausbau erfolgt 6 Monate lang im Edelstahltank ohne biologischem Säureabbau auf der Feinhefe.

Die Sorte Sauvignon wird in Südtirol seit mehr als einem Jahrhundert angebaut. Der intensive Duft nach Brennnessel und Holunder und die Frische und Lebhaftigkeit im Mund sind typisch für diesen Wein. Die Mineralität und die frische Säure gleichen sich in den Aromen aus. Er passt gut zu Fischgerichten, Meeresfrüchten, Spargel und weißem Fleisch.

SIEUR D’ARQUES hat langjährige Erfahrung mit der Herstellung von Schaumweinen. denn der verbriefte Ort der ersten Versektung eines Weins ist die Abtei von St. Hilaire. nahe bei Limoux. Im Jahre 1531 erfreuten sich die dortigen Mönche an der per Zufall entdeckten "Blanquette de Limoux" und in dem Crémant "Grande Cuvée 1531" finden Händler einen der feinsten Crémants Frankreichs.

Die Sekttradition in Limoux geht zurück auf das Jahr 1531. als dortige Mönche das Prinzip der Versektung entdeckten. Langsame Traubenreifung in kühleren Lagen um Limoux bewahren Struktur und Säure in den Trauben und machen sie somit geeignet zur Versektung. Die Trauben für den Première Bulle wurden handgelesen. es erfolgte eine traditionelle Flaschengärung mit insgesamt 24monatiger Hefelagerung. Der Sekt besitzt eine blassgelbe Farbe mit grünen Reflexen. Das feine und anhaltende Mousseux ist sehr gut in den Wein eingebunden. In der Nase wie am Gaumen finden sich vordergründig Noten nach weißen Blüten und gelbem Steinobst. Die Säure wirkt trotz aller Harmonie im Wein angenehm belebend. Im Geschmack viele frische Aromen wie Zitrus und Birne bei mittlerem Körper. Im Abgang Anklänge von Röstaromen mit einem frischen Finale. Viel Brombeeren, Bleistift, dunkle Erde und schwarze Johannisbeeren. Hell und klar. Vollmundig mit viel Frucht, doch eingerahmt und strukturiert mit einem tiefen und intensiven Abgang. Er zieht sich lange hin. Der beste Tronquoy aller Zeiten. Eine Mischung aus 59 % Cabernet Sauvignon, 35 % Merlot und 6 % Petit Verdot. Braucht fünf bis sechs Jahre, um sich zu öffnen.

Der 2022 Tronquoy hat sich deutlich besser entwickelt, als ich erwartet hatte – er strotzt nur so vor Aromen von dunklen Beeren, Cassis, Zigarrenkiste und schön eingebundenem neuem Eichenholz. Am Gaumen zeigt er sich mittel- bis vollmundig, vielschichtig und elegant kraftvoll, mit dichter und eindringlicher Struktur. Dieser Wein ist definitiv eine Suche wert.

Der Tronquoy 2022 enthält dieses Jahr mehr Cabernet Sauvignon aufgrund des ertragreichen Merlot, was zu einem beeindruckenden Saint-Estéphe führt. Es war ein beeindruckender Saint-Estéphe aus dem Fass. Jetzt hat es einen sehr intensiven Strauß Brombeere, Himbeer-Coutlis, verwelkte Veilchen und ein leichtes Honigaroma. Das ist gut definiert, meilenweit entfernt von dem Tronquoy, den ich vor einem Jahrzehnt probiert habe. Der Bate ist mittelkräftig und sehr ausgewogen, mit pulverförmigen Tanninen und einem Salzfaden, der ihm eine sükunige Persönlichkeit verleiht. Es gibt einen echten Charakter in diesem Wein, obwohl ich schlage vor, ihm drei bis fünf Jahre in der Flasche zu geben, bevor er brodeln. Hervorragend.

Dieser Wein ist intensiv und vielschichtig, mit reifen dunklen Beeren, Zedernholz, Kochgewürzen und einem Hauch von Lakritze und nassen Steinen. Er ist vollmundig, breit und strukturiert, mit beeindruckender Tiefe und Fruchtkonzentration. Die Tannine sind reif und gut integriert und ziehen sich über die gesamte Länge des Weins, was zu einem strukturierten, fest gewundenen Abgang führt. Lang und anhaltend.

Eine kurze Einschätzung zu dem Chateau Cantin 2022:

Leider habe ich dieses Chateau nicht bei den Primeur Proben verkosten können, aber ich möchte gerne auf die besondere Gelegenheit hinweisen, in Zeiten von spürbar steigenden Preisen ist es anscheinend trotzdem möglich einen sehr guten Einkauf zu machen. Aus der Region Saint Christophe des Bardes aus der so viele Super Weine in den letzten Jahren hervorkamen liegt auch eben dieses Weingut Cantin. Wenn man also zwischen den Weingütern Chateau Tour Saint Christophe, Chateau Laroque (93-94 Punkte Suckling) und Chateau Mangot (94-95 Punkte Suckling) eine Linie ziehen würde könnte man von Mangot aus über Chateau Cantin wieder zurück nach Tour Saint Christophe (95-96 Punkte Suckling) einen Bereich eingrenzen und man würde schnell feststellen, das es ganz logisch ist, dass auch das Chateau Cantin ein wunderbares Terroir besitzt und einfach teil des Epizentrums für smart Buys in Saint Emilion ist. Was macht Chateau Cantin 2022 so reizvoll? Nachdem das Chateau Mangot, Tour Saint Christophe sowie Chateau Laroque die Preise um gute 20 Prozent angehoben haben ist bei Cantin ein Preis unter 20€ en Primeur noch immer möglich, einfach sagenhaft günstig für so eine tolle Bewertung bei James Suckling. Sie haben recht, die Verkostungsnotizen von eben diesem James Suckling könnten etwas ausführlicher sein, aber er liegt oft in seiner vergleichenden Einschätzung gar nicht so verkehrt, beherzigt man dies nun, ist eigentlich Kaufalarm ausgelöst. Eine großartige Leistung eines Weinguts, das lange Zeit als schlafender Riese von Saint-Émilion galt. Der 2019 Laroque entfaltet im Glas Aromen von Kirschen, Lakritz, lehmiger Erde, Rosenblättern und süßem Tabak. Mittel- bis vollmundig, großzügig und vielschichtig, zeigt er Tiefe und Konzentration mit saftigen Säuren, pudrigen Tanninen und einem nahtlosen, harmonischen Profil.
