Die Cuvee für den Jahrgang 2018 besteht aus 42% Cabernet Sauvignon. 40% Merlot und 18% Petit Verdot. Volle Konzentration mit leichter Aufhellung. Die Nase ist sehr betörend und verführerisch, reife Frucht, süssliche Würze, geröstete Nüsse, Sahnemokka. Am Gaumen super balanciert, dennoch stoffig und kompakt, überhaupt nicht anstrengend. Sehr sauberes und langes Finale.

Ein beeindruckender Bordeaux mit großer Klasse, Tiefe und Ausdruckskraft. Dieser Meyney zeigt eindrucksvoll, warum das Château zu den spannendsten Adressen im Médoc zählt. Schon in der Nase entfaltet sich ein intensives, vielschichtiges Bouquet von schwarzen Kirschen, Brombeeren, Cassis und Blaubeeren, begleitet von feinen Noten von Rauch, Espresso, Tabak, Gewürzkiste, Nelke, dunkler Schokolade, Praliné und einer dezenten kiesigen Mineralität. With a deep garnet-purple color, the 2019 Serilhan bursts from the glass with notes of ripe blackcurrants, boysenberries, black raspberries and cedar chest plus nuances of red roses, pencil lead and camphor. The medium-bodied palate shimmers with energy, featuring tons of crunchy black fruit and a finely grained texture, lifted by fantastic tension, finishing long and perfumed. Impressive!

It's incredibly impressive, and while it offers pleasure even today, it deserves 5-6 years of bottle age, and I can't imagine it not evolving for two decades.

Chateau Ormes de Pez 2019 Saint Estephe

The 2019 Ormes de Pez has an intense bouquet of blackberry, bilberry and a touch of hoisin, but none of the smoky elements that I commented upon from the barrel sample last year. Nicely delineated and certainly less rustic than past vintages. The palate is finely tuned with a touch of bitter cherry on the entry, quite peppery, and a little stricter than I expected at the moment, leading to a granular, almost truffly finish.

This shows lots of spice, such as cloves and nutmeg, together with dark berries and cherries and some plums. It’s structured and relatively dense, with lovely length and beauty. Needs time to open and come together. 50% merlot, 40% cabernet sauvignon with cabernet franc and petit verdot. Lovely now. Try after 2024.

Coming from the Cazes team, the 2019 Château Ormes De Pez is gorgeous and shines in the vintage. Pure crème de cassis, mulberries, leafy herbs, Asian spices, and lead pencil all emerge on the nose, and this medium to full-bodied 2019 has the vintage’s pure, focused, elegant style while staying ripe, supple, and textured. The balance is spot on, and it's going to hit maturity in roughly 8-10 years and have two decades of prime drinking.

The Cabernet is quite marked in the 2018. which is not a bad thing. it just means the wine is going to need time to be at its best. What really stands out. though. is the push and pull between the bright aromatics that this cool. clay-rich soil helped give in 2018. and the ripe. radiant fruit of the warm summer. That interplay makes for an absolutely compelling wine. Red cherry fruit. mint. dried flowers. cedar and tobacco add aromatic nuance to this highly expressive. vibrant Saint-Estèphe. The blend is 62% Cabernet Sauvignon. 37% Merlot and 1% Petit Verdot. Tasted two times.
