A great effort, the 2022 de la Dauphine is a blend of 80% Merlot and 20% Cabernet Franc. It reveals aromas of spices, dark berries and licorice, followed by a juicy, tense and medium-bodied palate built around a nice calcareous texture and a fresh, fruity finish.

La Dauphine is now one of the top wines from Fronsac. Drink from 2025-2038.

The 2022 Château La Dauphine is terrific, and certainly worth the effort to track down. Sporting a dense purple hue as well as fabulous aromatics of cassis, black cherries, spring flowers, and some leafy herb nuances, it hits the palate with medium to full-bodied richness, a layered, elegant mouthfeel, and outstanding length. This impeccably made Fronsac will have 10-15 years of prime drinking.

Das Chateau Mangot ist mit dem neuen Jahrgang jetzt ein Saint Emilion Grand Cru Classe, ein herzlichen Glückwunsch dazu. Die unaufhaltsame Gipfelfahrt dieses Bio zertifizierten Weingut scheint unaufhaltsam. Mit dem JG 2022 erreicht Mangot der Familie Todeschini wohl eine bisher noch nie erreichte Qualität. Die Internationale Presse ist ebenfalls begeistert von dieser gebotenen Qualität. William Kelley (Wineadvocate) hat den Chateau Mangot in seinem Tastingreport einfach mal zu wahrscheinlich besten Kauf der Kampagne für den JG 2022 ausgelobt. Bereits der JG 2020 erhielt von Ihm 94 Punkte, aber mit dem jungen 2022iger haben wir hier einen Wein, der diese Spitzenleistung sogar noch übertrumpfen könnte.

Chateau Cantin 2022 Saint Emilion Grand Cru

Eine kurze Einschätzung zu dem Chateau Cantin 2022:

Leider habe ich dieses Chateau nicht bei den Primeur Proben verkosten können, aber ich möchte gerne auf die besondere Gelegenheit hinweisen, in Zeiten von spürbar steigenden Preisen ist es anscheinend trotzdem möglich einen sehr guten Einkauf zu machen. Aus der Region Saint Christophe des Bardes aus der so viele Super Weine in den letzten Jahren hervorkamen liegt auch eben dieses Weingut Cantin. Wenn man also zwischen den Weingütern Chateau Tour Saint Christophe, Chateau Laroque (93-94 Punkte Suckling) und Chateau Mangot (94-95 Punkte Suckling) eine Linie ziehen würde könnte man von Mangot aus über Chateau Cantin wieder zurück nach Tour Saint Christophe (95-96 Punkte Suckling) einen Bereich eingrenzen und man würde schnell feststellen, das es ganz logisch ist, dass auch das Chateau Cantin ein wunderbares Terroir besitzt und einfach teil des Epizentrums für smart Buys in Saint Emilion ist. Was macht Chateau Cantin 2022 so reizvoll? Nachdem das Chateau Mangot, Tour Saint Christophe sowie Chateau Laroque die Preise um gute 20 Prozent angehoben haben ist bei Cantin ein Preis unter 20€ en Primeur noch immer möglich, einfach sagenhaft günstig für so eine tolle Bewertung bei James Suckling. Sie haben recht, die Verkostungsnotizen von eben diesem James Suckling könnten etwas ausführlicher sein, aber er liegt oft in seiner vergleichenden Einschätzung gar nicht so verkehrt, beherzigt man dies nun, ist eigentlich Kaufalarm ausgelöst. Ich jedenfalls bin froh diese Entdeckung für Sie gemacht zu haben, gerne geschehen

Die Nase zeigt sich im Vergleich zu Tour Saint Christophe hellberiger, das wirk verspielter. Klare fruchtige Nase, mit schöner Cassis im Hintergrund.
Im Mund ist er erstaunlich raumgreifend, das ist vibrierend und total elegant, dennoch saftig und mit sehr guter aromatischer Mitte. Der Wein hat eine super Balance gefunden, seine Säure startet zunächst präsent und transportiert die dunkler werdende Frucht wunderbar in sein langes Finale. Das hat Schliff, Präzision und Finesse, der vielleicht eleganteste Belcier bisher, sehr gelungen.

This estate's renaissance continues, and the 2022 Bellefont Belcier is both the finest and most elegant wine that the team has produced today. Mingling aromas of plums and sweet berries with notions of rose petals and bay leaf, it's medium to full-bodied, with a deep core of vibrant fruit, beautifully refined tannins and a suave, seamless profile. Readers will remember that this derives from a beautifully situated hillside vineyard, sandwiched between Larcis Ducasse and Tertre Roteboeuf on either side, with holdings belonging to Pavie and Troplong Mondot on the plateau above. Die Nase ist in diesem Jahr wieder eine Nuance feiner, noch weniger Schwarzfruchtig, aber im Kern steht eine schwarze süsse Kirsche, begleitet von guter Würze die vom Cabernet Franc kommen wird, eine Kühle begleitet das Nasenbild und macht den Wein tiefgründig und sehr interessant. Man kann den Kalkstein riechen der dem Wein in diesem Jahrgang seinen Character gibt. Im Mund ist der Wein dann wie gewohnt mit tollem Extrakt, einer sehnig - fleischigen Art. Sein Tannin ist wunderbar tragend im langen Mundgefühl. Im Nachgeschmack trumpft dann wieder der Cab. Franc auf, einfach faszinierend diese kühle zart würzige Art. Das wird sehr gut reifen, wobei ich glaube, dass es auch viele Fans für den frühen Genuss geben wird.

Chateau Laroque 2022 Saint Emilion

Die Nase ist dunkel und kraftvoll, mit einem sehr präsent kirschigen Kern, umrahmt von kleinen dunklen Waldbeeren, eine steinig kühle Nuance kommt ins Spiel, auch ein feiner Schokotouch. Erstaunlich wie konstant der Wein sich über die Jahrgänge hinweg zeigt. Im Mund ist er saftig bis fleischig, das Tannin ist ganz harmonisch abgestimmt, die Kirsche ist auch im Mund sehr präsent. Er hat alle Anlagen die es braucht, der Ausbau sollte einen schon früh zugänglichen Laroque hervorbringen.

Clearly one of the new superstars in the appellation, Château Laroque is located on the cooler, eastern edge of Saint-Emilion and consists of pure, classic upper plateau limestone soils. The estate covers a whopping 54 hectares, which gives director Davie Suire ample flexibility when putting together the Grand Vin. Looking at the 2022 Laroque, it's a blend of 98% Merlot and 2% Cabernet Franc from healthy yields of 41 hectoliters per hectare, representing just 45% of the total production, and it will spend 16-18 months in 50% new French oak. This deep purple-hued beauty offers a classic Saint-Emilion bouquet of crème de cassis, graphite, tobacco, and a liquid rock-like sense of minerality. It’s medium to full-bodied, has incredible purity, and ultra-fine tannins. It’s unquestionably another beautiful vintage for this chateau that readers will love.

I was blown away by the quality of the 2022 Château Barde-Haut, and this 80/20 split of Merlot and Cabernet Franc does everything right in the vintage. Revealing a deep purple hue as well as stunning aromatics of cassis, spring flowers, black cherries, and truffle, it hits the palate with medium to full-bodied richness and delivers fine-grained tannins and flawless balance. Pure, bright, and lively, yet also deep, concentrated, and textured, it's a brilliant bottle of wine in the making.
