I love the deep and complex nose. in which the cassis and mint of cabernet sauvignon are beautifully married to the more generous blackberry of ripe merlot and the vanilla and toasty notes from the oak are marvelously integrated. On the palate it creeps up on you slowly; the first impression is ripe yet delicate. then the fine-grained tannins charge through and light up the sky. Very long finish. Drink or hold.

The 2016 Malartic-Lagraviere is a blend of 53% Cabernet Sauvignon. 40% Merlot. 4% Cabernet Franc and 3% Petit Verdot picked between 13-20 October at 46 hectoliters per hectare. It is matured in 80% new oak and the remainder one year old. It has a very composed and pure bouquet with blackberry. mint and just a touch of blueberry. the new oak neatly integrated and menthol developing with time. The palate is very well balanced with crisp acidity. fine structure and a keen line of acidity; this is a pixelated Pessac-Léognan that exudes style and panache. There is an effortless nature to this wine and it feels so persistent in the mouth that you cannot wait to take another sip. This is (another) impressive release from the bonny Bonnie family and do not be surprised if it eventually surpasses the outstanding 2015.

50 % Cabernet Sauvignon. 47 % Merlot. 2 % Petit Verdot. 1 % Cabernet Franc. Extrem dunkles Purpur mit lila und violetten Reflexen. Extrem dunkelbeerig mit vielen Rauchnuancen. Lakritze. dunklen Edelhölzer. Guinness-Biermalz und Black Currant im ersten Ansatz. Nach ein paar Minuten kommt eine feine Zimtnuance zum Tragen. Heidelbeerenmark und Tahiti-Vanilleschote. Mit der Gefahr. dass ihn Haut-Brion oder Mission einmal ein- möglicherweise überholen werden. Aber vor 20 Jahren wird dies nicht der Fall sein!

The 2016 Latour-Martillac has come together very nicely during its aging. Black cherry. plum. leather. licorice. spice and chocolate give the 2016 much of its racy. extroverted feel. Deep. dark and quite powerful. the 2016 is showing beautifully today. The oak could use a bit more time to fully come together. but that is a relatively small critique for a wine that delivers so much pleasure.

Der C des Carmes Haut Brion ist einfach ein fantastischer Weinwert. Jeder redet zwar über das Chateau Les Carmes Haut Brion, aber ein weiterer Teil der unglaublichen Erfolgsgeschichte die hier im Zusammenhang steht, haben noch zu wenige auf dem Radar! Diesen ebenso unglaublich guten Wein der sich von einem Hoch zum anderen hangelt, dürfen Sie einfach nicht verpassen. Er nicht en Primeur vermarktet und stritt demzufolge erst später in Erscheinung, dennoch wird er immer zu den Primeursproben gezeigt. Oft verlassen wir das Weingut mit einem breiten Grinsen und freuen uns auf den nächsten Release des C des Carmes. Denn was man hier für deutlich unter 40€ bekommt ist immer eine wahre Freude für die Geschmackspapillen. Genuss wird bei diesem feinen und so balancierten Pessac Leognan gross geschrieben. Die Cuvee besteht aus zwei drittel Cabernet und 1 drittel Merlot, mit Varianzen in den Jahrgängen. Der Ausbau erfolgt über 20% in neuen Fässern und die 80% in gebruachten Fässern. Und wenn ich Ihnen jetzt noch verrate, dass sich das selbe Team um diesen Wein kümmert wie es das auch bei Chateau Carmes HAut Brion tut, sollten Sie mir versprechen, nicht zu viel die Werbetrommel für diesen Geheimtipp zu trommeln, denn sonst kann es das bald gewesen sein mit dem Bargain Tipp aus Pessac.

Beautiful fragrance to the nose, perfumed and delicate yet so expressive, nothing out of balance with cherries and violets bursting out of the glass. Gorgeous smooth mouthfeel with some milk chocolate dusting on the fruit, tannins are delicate and softly mouth filling with a lovely salinity to the palate - creamy and unctuous but at the same time there's lots of acidity. This has a verticality to it, layered but with an aerial quality too, the flavours just glide across the palate with lift on the finish - so satisfying and drinkable. Just a glorious, shining, bright, velvety, succulent glass of wine. Pure elegance. A blend of 55% Cabernet Sauvignon, 44% Merlot and 1% Petit Verdot, 3.55pH. Drinking Window 2022 - 2046

Smoke. tobacco. cedar. licorice and leather add aromatic nuance. but it is the wine's textural depth that stands out most. La Parde is a second wine that overdelivers. big time.

The 2016 Branaire-Ducru is powerful. dense and explosive to a degree that is surprising for a wine that is typically much more sensual. There is lovely definition throughout. but readers will have to be patient to catch the 2016 at its very best. Hints of leather. smoke. tobacco and dried flowers begin to open up in the glass. but the 2016 is quite reticent at this stage. In two tastings I found the 2016 unusually closed. Needless to say. it will be interesting to see what time brings.

What a fabulous white Bordeaux from the estate. certainly one of the best that I have ever encountered.

The Tronquoy has gained quite a bit of structure and vertical depth in aging. whereas during en primeur it was a more supple wine.

The palate is medium-bodied with dense tannin. grippy in the mouth. and quite voluminous. with perhaps more density on the solid. almost broad-shouldered finish compared to the Clerc-Milon. This fulfills all my expectations from my barrel tasting and is quite simply one of the best d’Armailhac wines ever made.

Dark red plum. licorice. spice. iron. game and scorched earth all give d'Armailhac its distinctive savory flavor profile that is quite appealing.
