Lavender, spice, blueberry, cedar and mint all grace a Saint-Émilion built more on finesse than power. The long, persistent finish, with its saline accents, adds to the wine's pedigree. The 2018 is beautifully done. The blend is 97% Merlot and 3% Cabernet Franc. Technical Director David Suire gave the 2018 lots 26-29 days on the skins fermented in cement, with manual pump-overs and punch-downs. New oak is 55%.

The 2018 Château Laroque checks in as almost all Merlot (there is 3% Cabernet Franc) that comes from an incredibly strict selection of just 41% of the total production. Brought up in a mix of new and used barrels, it's more about finesse than power, offering a gorgeous perfume of ripe black cherries, mulberries, cassis, violets, spring flowers, and chalky minerality. Medium to full-bodied, pure, and incredibly elegant on the palate, it builds nicely with time in the glass, has ultra-fine tannins, flawlessly integrated tannins, acidity and fruit, and a great finish. It's as classy as they come. Approachable today with a decant, it will drink nicely for 20 years or more. Readers looking for an impeccably made, classic, high-quality Saint-Emilion that doesn't break the bank should back up the truck for this beauty.

It's just an impeccably made, satisfying, classic Right Bank beauty to drink over the coming 10-12 years. Bravo!

The palate is where this really impresses, because its opulence is effortlessly counterbalanced by a bead of acidity that imparts freshness and tension. This is a multilayered Pavie-Macquin endowed with tremendous length on the aftertaste. Even after 60 seconds I can still feel this Saint-Émilion lapping upon my senses. Superb.

Technical Director Guillaume Pouthier turned out another stellar wine with the 2019 Les Carmes Haut-Brion. Elegant, polished and wonderfully nuanced to the core, the 2019 dazzles right out of the gate. Whole clusters enhance a whole range of Cabernet Franc inflections in a wine that is immediately seductive. On the palate, the 2019 is creamy and textured. Plum, blood orange, spice, mocha and dried herbs lend an exotic quality that is so alluring. The 2019 is a mysterious, totally seductive wine that no one who is serious about Bordeaux will want to miss. To be sure, Les Carmes is far from typical, but it is incredibly unique. Its longevity is likely to be measured in multiples of decades. Quite simply, I loved it.

The 2019 Les Carmes Haut-Brion has turned out very well in bottle. Mingling aromas of plums and cassis with notions of blood orange, warm spices and new oak, it's full-bodied, velvety and seamless, with an ample core of bright, succulent fruit that's framed by an elegantly muscular chassis of ripe, powdery tannins and lively acids. Concluding with a long, expansive finish, it's reminiscent of a more giving, extroverted version of Pouthier's superb 2016. As is now the rule at this address, some whole bunches were retained during maceration, and the wine saw a long élevage in a variety of vessels, from classic 225-liter Bordeaux barriques to foudres and amphorae. The blend is dominated by 42% Cabernet Franc, complemented by 31% Cabernet Sauvignon and the balance Merlot.

So ist es auch zu erklären. dass die Trauben in diesem warmen und sonnenreichen Jahrgang genügend Frische und feingliedrige Frucht aufweisen. Hier ist alles am rechten Fleck. ein grosser Genusswert aus dem Saint Emilion.

A terrific effort from an estate that was long one of Saint-Émilion's sleeping giants, the 2019 Laroque unwinds in the glass with aromas of cherries, licorice, loamy soil, rose petals and sweet tobacco. Medium to full-bodied, ample and layered, it's deep and concentrated, with succulent aids, powdery tannins and a seamless, integrated profile. It's well worth seeking out.

The Cabernet Franc-dominated 2018 Château Petit Gravet Aîné (there's 20% Merlot) comes from the upper plateau in Saint-Emilion and was raised in new French oak. It's handled its élevage nicely and has just subtle vanilla and spicy oak notes as well as impressive red, black, and blue fruits intermixed with notes of acacia flowers, spice box, forest floor, and tobacco. Tighter and more backward from bottle than barrel, it's medium to full-bodied and has a balanced, elegant texture, beautiful tannins, and a great finish. It needs 3-5 years of bottle age and should have two decades of overall longevity.

Von einem Weingut, das in letzter Zeit eine unglaubliche Erfolgsserie hatte – vor allem dank der Talente von Direktor David Suire – zeigt der 2020 Château Laroque den kühleren, kalksteinbetonten Stil des Terroirs auf wunderschöne Weise. Er präsentiert eine klare, fokussierte Stilistik mit dunklen (fast bläulichen) Beerenfrüchten, kreidiger Mineralität, Veilchen, Gewürzen und floralen Nuancen. Am Gaumen mittelkräftig, ist dieser fokussierte, gradlinige und bemerkenswert reine Saint-Émilion von großartiger Tiefe im Mittelgaumen und einem hervorragenden Abgang. Er sollte, wenn möglich, für solide 4–5 Jahre im Keller verborgen bleiben und wird eine Langlebigkeit von 30 Jahren haben. Wenn er schon bald getrunken wird, sollte er für eine Stunde in der Karaffe belüftet werden.

Der 2020 Laroque ist sehr gelungen und entfaltet Aromen von Kirschen, minzigen Brombeeren, Lakritz und Lorbeerblatt. Mittel- bis vollmundig, samtig und vielschichtig, mit guter Tiefe im Kern, kreidigen, aber fein strukturierten Tanninen und einem salinen Abgang. Eine weitere starke Leistung für diesen aufstrebenden Star aus Saint-Émilion.

Am Gaumen präsentiert er sich mittel- bis vollmundig, fleischig und vielschichtig, mit einem süßen Fruchtkern, geschmeidigen Tanninen und einem langen, mineralischen Abgang. Dieser Wein hat sich in der Flasche sehr schön entwickelt, und aufgrund seines niedrigen pH-Profils wird er wahrscheinlich von etwas Flaschenreife profitieren. 92+ Punkte.
