Eine Sensation in Flaschen - Eine grosse Überraschung bei unserer Verkostung am 07.11.2018 in Zürich im Dolder Grand auf der UGCB Verkostung des Jahrgangs 2016. Chateau Durfort Vivens 2016 Margaux, mann könnte es mit der Liebe auf den ersten Schluck beschreiben. Die bis dato höchste Intensität des Cabernet in diesem Wein, 94% purer Cabernet und deren wolllüstige Cassisfrucht die einem geradeaus ins Gesicht springt. Dann im Mund fängt der Wein an zu rocken, er ist wild und ungestüm und dennoch hat er eine so tolle Balance, man ist schier sprachlos. Wie geht das in so einem Wein. Der 2016er wird mir immer im Gedächtnis bleiben. Was danach folgte ist eine Elexiervariante mit dem 2018er. Diese Miniproduktion und dann gefolgt von gleich drei Traumjahren (2019,2020 UND 2021!) für diesen Wein, jeder Jahrgang einfach auf seine ganz spezielle Art und Weise eigenständig. Bitte kaufen Sie sich einmal eine Flasche von diesen Weinen die hier auf Durfort Vivens produziert werden, Sie werden es nicht bereuen.

This is really superb with beautiful density and ripe tannin texture. Full body and a round and polished texture. Rich and impressive but all in class. Made from biodynamic grapes. Almost all cabernet sauvignon.

There’s a very balanced feel to this wine with ripe blueberries and red plums. as well as dried flowers. The palate has a supple. smooth build of rich. blueberry and cassis flavor and a long. fine-tannin finish. A blend of 62% cabernet sauvignon. 36% merlot and 2% petit verdot. Drink or hold.

The 2017 Rauzan-Ségla is coming together very nicely. Soft and silky. the 2017 is a wine of pure and total finesse. Sweet red cherry and plum fruit. tobacco. cedar and licorice add pretty top notes. but more than anything else. the 2017 impresses with its statuesque elegance and total balance; nothing in particular stands out. For that reason. Rauzan-Ségla is the sort of wine that is easy to overlook. and yet all the elements of a top notch Left-Bank wine are present. Tasted three times.

The 2016 Malescot Saint Exupéry is fabulous. Powerful and explosive on the palate. the 2016 offers serious intensity. but it also appears to be holding back quite a bit of its potential. Moreover. what impresses me most is that in 2016. intensity is delivered more with finesse than with the brutish power that is such a signature of Malescot. Deep and resonant. but also remarkably polished. the 2016 Malescot is a winner. Hints of iron. smoke. cedar. tobacco and scorched earth add nuance. but it is the wine's sense of poise that is most remarkable. I loved it. Tasted three times.

Medium-bodied. the palate has a firm frame of grainy tannins with fantastic energy and depth. finishing on a lingering chocolaty note.

This is fantastic. offering lots of fresh tobacco and blackcurrants and undertones of hazelnuts and chocolate. Full-bodied with firm and chewy tannins. yet ever so polished and refined. One of the most structured St. Pierre’s in years. A blend of 73 per cent cabernet sauvignon. 21 per cent merlot and six per cent cabernet franc. Try from 2024.

The 2016 has enough density and pedigree to drink well for many years to come.

The Cabernet Franc was fantastic this year. so it was all used in the grand vin. The final blend is 55% Cabernet Sauvignon. 29% Merlot. 13% Cabernet Franc. 2% Petit Verdot and 1% Carménère. Deep garnet-purple colored. the 2016 Clerc Milon leaps from the glass with beautiful scents of chocolate-covered cherries. plum preserves and crushed blackcurrants with suggestions of lilacs. cardamom. underbrush and unsmoked cigars. Medium to full-bodied. the palate has a firm frame of finely grained tannins and seamless freshness lifting the perfumed fruit to a nice long finish.

Hot crushed stones and dark berries jump out of the glass. Full body. very dense fruit and powerful tannins. yet it remains agile and bright with beauty and energy. So muscular and toned. Truly outstanding Clerc for the future. Unwavering nature to this. Try after 2024.

The nose opens with beautiful floral notes of violets and lavender accented with earthy notions and sparks of crushed rocks over a core of kirsch. cassis and wild blueberries. Full-bodied. rich and seductive. it has layer upon layer of red. black and blue fruits intermingled with earth and mineral hints leading to a very long. perfumed finish.

Readers should be in no rush to drink the 2016. as it won't be close to ready to drink for at least a decade. and I say that as an eternal optimist. Black cherry. smoke. tobacco. cedar. gravel and incense add to the wine's decidedly somber personality.

Wonderful aromas of tobacco. sweet fruit and licorice follow through to a full body with ultra-fine tannins that caress every inch of your palate. Love the length and subtlety to this young wine. Gorgeous. Drink after 2024.

The 2016 Haut-Bailly was mightily impressive when tasted from barrel. Now. matured in 50% new oak and bottled at the end of April 2018 (they prefer to bottle before spring here). it has a very well defined bouquet of black fruit. graphite. crushed stone and light rose petal aromas that gain intensity with aeration. The palate is medium-bodied with quite grippy tannin. This Haut-Bailly feels pure and classic in style. offering well-judged acidity and a sophisticated. quite tensile finish that lingers long in the mouth. I suspect this might close down in a year or two and deserves perhaps 8 to 10 years in bottle to show what it can really do. The best Haut-Bailly in the modern era? For certain.

The 2016 is just as impressive from bottle as it was from barrel. maybe even more! Tasted three times.

Medium to deep garnet-purple colored. it sings of lifted red and black cherries. black raspberries and cassis with a rose hip tea and lilacs undercurrent plus sparks of tobacco. pencil shavings and tilled earth. The palate is medium-bodied. elegant and mineral laced with firm. fine-grained tannins and beautiful freshness. finishing with great length and depth.

The 2016 Rauzan-Ségla has an intense bouquet. one of the most perfumed that I encountered during my round of tastings. Violets infuse the ebullient black fruit. and traces of pencil lead emerge with time. The palate is medium-bodied. very pure and supple. displaying wonderful balance and a satiny texture that belongs in a lingerie shop. This is an utterly seductive Margaux. one of the finest in recent years as this estate continues its upsurge in quality. Few 2016s will dole out such inhibited pleasure.

The aromas of blackcurrants. sweet tobacco and sandalwood are tantalizing. Then it turns to subtle. dried fruit. Full-bodied with dense and powerful tannins. yet ending with finesse and vertical nature. Very deep. Power with finesse. Try after 2025.
