96 Suckling Punkte für den Chateau Malescot Saint Exupery 2019 MargauxJames Suckling über den Chateau Malescot Saint Exupery 2019 Margaux:

16 Jan, 2022 – Sweet currant and berry aromas with hints of blackcurrants, black cherries and flowers. It’s full-bodied and layered with beautifully polished tannins that last for minutes. Tight and very focused. This needs at least six or seven years to open. Try after 2027.

96 Punkte vom Vinous-Team für den Chateau Malescot Saint Exupery 2019 MargauxAntonio Galloni (Vinous) bewertet den Chateau Malescot Saint Exupery 2019 Margaux:

The 2019 Malescot St. Exupéry is quite possibly the most elegant wine I have tasted here. Plush and radiant, the 2019 possesses notable depth with plenty of supporting structure beneath surprisingly tamed tannins. Gravel, dark red cherry/plum, spice, leather and dried flowers build over time. The 2019 is a magical wine endowed with tremendous character. Don't miss it.

96 Punkte vom Vinous-Team für den Chateau Malescot Saint Exupery 2019 MargauxUnd Neal Martin (Vinous) zum Chateau Malescot Saint Exupery 2019 Margaux:

The 2019 Malescot Saint Exupéry has a well-defined bouquet, although it does not quite possess the intensity that it showed from barrel. Touches of licorice and allspice gently unfold with time. The palate is medium-bodied with sappy black fruit, and lightly spiced with white pepper and clove toward the detailed, persistent finish. This is a serious Margaux that deserves time in bottle.

96 Punkte vom Falstaff für den Chateau Malescot Saint Exupery 2019 MargauxDer Chateau Malescot Saint Exupery 2019 Margaux am Gaumen der Falstaff-Verköstiger:

Dunkles Rubingranat, opaker Kern, violette Reflexe, zarte Randaufhellung. Zart blättrig unterlegte schwarze Waldbeeren, Lakritze, Orangenzesten, kandierte Mandarinenschalen.

92-94 Punkte.

This is the most powerful Phelan Segur I have ever tasted. A solid core of dense fruit and layered tannins that are so refined and polished. Remains fresh. energetic and bright. Yet. there’s plenty of harmony and balance.

Lively. with juicy plum and black cherry fruit. supported by tobacco and toast accents in the end. An alluring whiff of incense swirls through the slightly dusty finish.

The 2018 Phelan Segur is a blend of 57% Cabernet Sauvignon and 43% Merlot. harvested from September 14 to October 4. The wine comes in at 14% alcohol. 3.8 pH and has an IPT (total polyphenol index) of 77. Deep purple-black in color. it springs from the glass with bright. vibrant notes of raspberry preserves. kirsch and ripe blackcurrants with hints of rose petals. tilled black soil. spice cake and warm plums plus a waft of star anise. Medium to full-bodied with a solid backbone of grainy tannins and seamless freshness. the palate sports a taut. muscular fruit profile with loads of bright red fruit sparks and a long. earthy finish.

91-94 Punkte vom Vinous-Team für den Chateau Phelan Segur 2018 Saint EstepheAntonio Galloni bewertet den Chateau Phelan Segur 2018 Saint Estephe wie folgt:

The 2018 Phelan Segur is another in a strong series of wines from this re-born property. Deep and persistent on the palate. the 2018 has a lot to offer. Dark cherry. plum. graphite. menthol. spice and licorice all build in a super-expressive. delineated yet dense Saint-Estèphe loaded with personality. The 2018 finishes with serious intensity and structure. Technical Director Fabrice Bacquey opted for cooler macerations and short cuvaisons. especially for the Merlots. as the fruit was especially rich and the wines extracted easily. while the Cabernets were fermented more or less as usual. Yields were 49 hectoliters per hectare. a bit higher than the 20-year average of 44 and inline with other recent vintages such as 2015. 2016 and 2017. The blend is 57% Cabernet Sauvignon and 43% Merlot. Tasted three times.

Quite the bottle here! Spices. such as nutmeg and cinnamon. as well as dried meat and plums with cedar and sandalwood. Full body. Deep and dense in the center palate and a long. long finish. Shows finesse and tightness. Very polished tannins. Long and ethereal. Try after 2023

98+ Punkte vom Wine Advocate für den Chateau Cos d Estournel 2017 Saint EstepheLisa Perrotti Brown bewertet den Chateau Gloria 2017 Saint Julien im März 2020:

Composed of 66% Cabernet Sauvignon. 32% Merlot. 1% Petit Verdot and 1% Cabernet Franc. yields for the grand vin in 2017 were 43 hectoliters per hectare. and it was aged in 60% new oak. It came in at an alcohol of 13% and an IPT of 68. Deep garnet-purple colored. the 2017 Cos d'Estournel needs a little coaxing to unfurl. revealing beautiful expressions of preserved plums. boysenberries. blackcurrant pastilles and wild blueberries with hints of Indian spices. menthol. lilacs and mossy tree bark plus a compelling suggestion of iron ore.

Medium to full-bodied. the palate has a solid backbone of firm. grainy tannins and well-knit freshness supporting the tightly wound blue and black fruits layers. finishing long and fragrant. This wine will need a good 5-7 years in bottle before it begins to blossom and should go on for at least another 40 years. I expect this wine to be a blockbuster of a head-turner when I come back and taste it at 10 years of age!

95 Punkte vom Vinous-Team für den Chateau Cos d Estournel 2017 Saint EstepheAntonio Galloni von Vinous bewertet im März 2020 wie folgt:

A bold. dramatic wine. the 2017 Cos d'Estournel is seriously impressive today. Time in barrel has done wonders for the 2017. a wine that has really gained depth in élevage. Black cherry. chocolate. spice. new leather. licorice. smoke and incense infuse the 2017 with tons of character. with the 60% new oak very well judged. In 2017. Cos has a level of textural resonance that eludes many Saint-Estèphes. The blend is 66% Cabernet Sauvignon. 32% Merlot. 1% Petit Verdot and 1% Cabernet Franc.

95 Punkte vom Vinous-Team für den Chateau Cos d Estournel 2017 Saint EstepheNeal Martin von Vinous bewertet im Februar 2020 wie folgt:

The 2017 Cos d’Estournel showed extremely well from barrel and likewise in bottle. continuing this estate’s strong run of form since the 2014 vintage. You instantaneously fall in love with the nose that bursts forth with blackberry. raspberry coulis. crushed stone. iodine and pressed iris petal. The 60% new oak is beautifully integrated. Quintessentially Cos d’Estournel. The palate is medium-bodied with supple black fruit laced with black truffle and graphite. quite Pauillac-like in style. which is no surprise given its location. This is very focused and perhaps understated compared to the 2016. yet its freshness and vivacity are undeniable. "Streamlined. cool and linear" I wrote at en primeur... I have no reason to alter that sentiment.

The second wine from Calon Ségur, the 2018 Le Marquis De Calon Segur shows the ripe, sexy side to the vintage and has terrific blackcurrant and red plum-like fruits as well as lots of tobacco and cedary spice aromas and flavors. Close to an even split of Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon, this full-bodied, gorgeously texture, balanced Saint-Estate should be snatched up by readers. It's in the running for the top second wine of the vintage!

92-94 Punkte vom Wine Advocate für den Le Marquis de Calon Segur 2018 Saint EstepheLisa Perrotti Brown bewertet den Le Marquis de Calon Segur 2018 Saint Estephe wie folgt:

The 2018 Le Marquis de Calon-Ségur is a blend of 53% Merlot and 47% Cabernet Sauvignon (14.9% alcohol). It is anticipated to age for 17 months in barriques. 30% new. Deep purple-black in color. it gives up opulent scents of Indian spices. menthol and plum preserves with a core of crème de cassis. baked cherries and raspberry pie plus a hint of sandalwood. Big. rich. full-bodied and voluptuously fruited in the mouth. it has bags of black fruit preserves and exotic spices with a firm. plush frame. finishing long with a minty lift. Definitely one for the hedonists! und vergibt ihm 92-94 Punkte.

“2018 was complicated to vinify because of the potentially high alcohols.” Laurent Dufau. Managing Director of Calon-Ségur and Capbern informed me. “Also. you had to be very gentle with extraction. You had to be soft. so as not to extract too much. The alcohol percentage of the Merlot was concerning—some came in at 16% potential alcohol! And the Cabernet Franc this year was amazing on this terroir.” Merlot was picked from September 19 to 25. The Cabernets came in September 26 to October 5. Petit Verdot came in on October 8th. Yields were pretty good here on average in 2018: 41 hectoliters per hectare. This year marks the final stages/completion of years of vineyard restructuring. new aging cellars and a gravity-fed vat room at Château Calon-Ségur. Most notably. they have been increasing vine density and slowly working on bringing more Cabernet Sauvignon rather than Merlot on line. as was the blend traditionally. No doubt about it. quality at Calon-Ségur has been on an upward trajectory in recent years!

für den Tronquoy-Lalande 2016Antonio Galloni Januar 2019:

Black cherry. grilled herbs. plum. chocolate. leather and gravel all run through this virile. potent Saint-Estèphe.

Aromas of currants and fresh herbs, such as bay leaf and basil, follow through to a full body with layers of ripe tannins and a chewy finish. This is just a baby now and needs three or four years to come around. Try after 2024.

97+ Punkte vom Wine Advocate für den Le Macchiole Paleo 2017 Toscana Cabernet FrancMonica Larner über den Paleo Rosso 2017 von Le Macchiole im Oktober 2020:

The Three Graces of Le Macchiole are Messorio, Scrio and Paleo (Merlot, Syrah and Cabernet Franc, respectively). Of these three top-tier releases, my favorite is the 2017 Paleo. This is an upright and direct expression of the grape that carefully sheds some dusty or mineral aromas before opening the way for determined black fruit, charred meat, spice and cured tobacco or cigar. There is quite a bit of oak, but it works beautifully against the natural intensity and rich concentration of the hot vintage. More unexpected are those pretty tones of lilac, blue flower and aniseed that add to the detailed rendering and complexity of the bouquet. This wine won my heart.

96 Punkte vom Vinous-Team für den Le Macchiole Paleo 2017 Toscana Cabernet FrancAntonio Galloni zum Paleo 2017 im Januar 2021:

The 2017 Paleo Rosso is superb. It is also the wine in this range that seems to have handled the rigors of 2017 best. Then again, that is the magic of Cabernet Franc on the Tuscan Coast. The aromatics alone are so alluring. Sweet pipe tobacco, mocha, dried flowers, mint, sage and cedar give Paleo its aromatic lift. Some varietal character has been baked out because of the heat of the year. In exchange, readers will find a Paleo Rosso that will drink well with just a year or two in bottle. The 2017 was fermented in cement and aged for 14 months in French oak barrels, 90% new with light toast.

97 Sucklingpunkte für den Le Macchiole Messorio 2017 Toscana MerlotJames Suckling beschreibt über den Messorio 2017 von Le Macchiole im August 2020:

This wine shows beautiful clarity and class on the nose with roses, tar, currants, green and black olives and plums. It’s exceptionally fine-tannined with such polish and finesse. So sophisticated and intense for this vintage. Long, chewy finish, yet this is mouth-filling and caressing. Pure merlot. Try after 2024.

95 Puntke vom Wine Advocate für den Le Macchiole Messorio 2017 Toscana MerlotMonica Larner über den Messorio 2017 von Le Macchiole im Oktober 2020:

Messorio is a wine that beautifully reflects the characteristics of the vintage and is a very accurate measuring stick of how any single vintage will eventually perform both in terms of near-term accessibility and long-term cellar aging. That said, the Le Macchiole 2017 Messorio plays its strongest cards in terms of mouthfeel and texture, revealing a robust structure and firmly integrated tannins that come from both the richly concentrated fruit and the careful use of oak. The wine shows a heavy center of gravity and a solid base of dark fruit that is enhanced by caramel, brown sugar, spice and creamy blackberry preserves. It does offer immediate appeal, but I'd wait a few more years to give this 2017 Messorio more time to flesh out and evolve.

95 Punkte vom Vinous-Team für den Le Macchiole Messorio 2017 Toscana MerlotAntonio Galloni im Januar 2021:

The 2017 Messorio (100% Merlot) is classy and polished to the core. It is also incredibly young and not at all forthcoming. Messorio is a wine that needs a surprising amount of time in bottle to truly shine. I expect that will be the case here as well. Today, the 2017 is all about fruit and density. Time in the cellar should allow for its aromatics to emerge more fully. Overall, though, this is a fairly restrained style, in keeping with the showing of 2017 Bolgheri reds more broadly. All the elements come together so gracefully in this striking wine. Production is down around 20%.
