A warm & productive summer put plenty of flesh on this wine. The fruit is issued from Rippon’s mature vines, whose root hairs have invaded the schist rock below. Lurking towards the end of the first mouthful is substantial phenolic power and it soon starts to take charge of the wine… and give it its sense of place (Rippon)

Bracing minerals, sliced pears and apples, wet stones and a gently floral edge here. So pure and fresh. The palate has a succulent, powerfully aligned drive of fresh apple and pear flavors with a mouthwateringly fresh stream of acidity. More citrusy at the finish. From biodynamically grown grapes. Ein einnehmender, ein schöner Wein. So das Familienweingut aus Clare Valley. Zarte florale Aromen nach Zitronenblüten, saftige Limone und grüner Apfel, auch etwas exotische Gewürze. Langer, vibrierender Abgang. Die jüngsten Jahrgänge waren beim Wine Advocate ein sicherer Ü 90 Punktelieferant. Und den Jahrgang 2020 sah James Suckling bei 93 Punkten.

Grosset 2022 Springvale Clare Valley Riesling

Springvale, ein im Jahr 2000 unter anderem auch mit zwei deutschen Riesling-Klonen bepflanzter, sechs Hektar umfassender Weinberg in Watervale, Clare Valey, stellt schon eine Besonderhat dar. Ein Oberboden aus rotem Lehm von geringer Mächtigkeit über Kalkstein und mehrer hundert Millionen Jahre altem Schiefergestein. Der Boden bleibt unbearbeitet. Der hier wachsende Riesling ist äußerst robust und ergibt im Durchschnitt nur zweieinhalb Flaschen Wein je Rebstock.

Coiled. That's what this 2022 Springvale Riesling is. It's like a compressed spring, waiting for release. The fruit is from the Springvale vineyard and shows just how GOOD Australian Riesling is. This is textural and tight, with springboards of fruit blossom, chalk, pith and zest queued up. This is a wine that needs some time to emerge from itself, but it promises to be a superstar: Grosset has managed to wedge in some restraint and some austerity into the folds of the voluminous Clare fruit. Yikes. Awesome.

Tinker's Field, eine einzigartige Parzelle in Rippon, ist ein sanfter, nach Norden ausgerichteter Hang, der von einem alten Auswurfkegel aus grobem Schiefergestein gebildet wird. Tinker's Field beherbergt die ältesten Rebstöcke des Anwesens und ist nach dem visionären Gründer von Rippon, Rolfe Mills (Tink für seine Freunde), und dem Land, das er seit seiner Kindheit zu bewirtschaften träumte, benannt.

Aromas of cherries, dried strawberries, fresh flowers and orange peel. Yet, the nose remains subtle and complex. Medium to full body with firm, tight and linear tannins that are chewy and very fine-grained. Goes on for a very long time. From biodynamically grown grapes. Give this three or four years to soften. This is a muscular expression of the site in this warmer season. It’s immediately welcoming and open, but there’s plenty of time left to go. 13.5% alcohol, sealed under Diam.

They swarm through the mouth with buzzing energy and movement and seem to be seamlessly attached to the flavor at every juncture.
