Der Paleo 2017 Rosso aus der Region Bolgheri ist eine weitere Schöpfung im Le Macchiole Sortiment. Der Paleo Rosso 2017 von Le Macchiole ist ein aus 100% Cabernet Franc vinifizierter Rotwein, der stets ein paar Jahre brauch um zu voller Grosse aufzusteigen. Als erstes Weingut in der Bolgheri wagte es damals Le Macchiole einen reinen Cabernet Franc zu kreieren, den Paleo Rosso. Es passt sehr gut in die Philosophie des Weinguts Le Macchiole rebsortenreine Weine zu erzeugen. Neben dem Scrio einem reinen Syrah und dem Messorio einem reinen Merlot ist der Paleo Rosso der dritte im Bunde eben aus 100% Cabernet Franc. Sicherlich ist der Messorio der teuerste Wein im Portfolio, der wahre Star und auch der wohl wichtigste Wein bei Le Macchiole ist der Paleo Rosso. In einigen Jahren übertrumpft der Paleo dann auch den Messorio der oft mehr als das doppelte des Paleo kostet.

The Three Graces of Le Macchiole are Messorio, Scrio and Paleo (Merlot, Syrah and Cabernet Franc, respectively). Of these three top-tier releases, my favorite is the 2017 Paleo. This is an upright and direct expression of the grape that carefully sheds some dusty or mineral aromas before opening the way for determined black fruit, charred meat, spice and cured tobacco or cigar. There is quite a bit of oak, but it works beautifully against the natural intensity and rich concentration of the hot vintage. More unexpected are those pretty tones of lilac, blue flower and aniseed that add to the detailed rendering and complexity of the bouquet. This wine won my heart.

The 2017 Paleo Rosso is superb. It is also the wine in this range that seems to have handled the rigors of 2017 best. Then again, that is the magic of Cabernet Franc on the Tuscan Coast. The aromatics alone are so alluring. Sweet pipe tobacco, mocha, dried flowers, mint, sage and cedar give Paleo its aromatic lift. Some varietal character has been baked out because of the heat of the year. In exchange, readers will find a Paleo Rosso that will drink well with just a year or two in bottle. The 2017 was fermented in cement and aged for 14 months in French oak barrels, 90% new with light toast.

There is a gorgeous nuttiness to the 2015 Paleo. It is a highly aromatic expression of Cabernet Franc, with a bouquet of roses and some notes of red cherry. The vineyard team was careful in timing the harvest and fermentations to make sure the fruit did not come in too ripe and so they could maintain the natural freshness of the grapes. The oak used is moderately to highly toasted so they could get more of those nutty notes instead of the more common coffee or chocolate aromas we associate with barrique. It is aged for 22 months and the overall result is incredible.

Sweet floral and spiced notes soar out of the glass in a stunning wine endowed with fabulous depth in all of its dimensions. Cedar, mocha, rose petal, red plum and menthol are bright and beautifully sculpted. Paleo Rosso shows just how profound Cabernet Franc can be on the Tuscan Coast. This is a superb edition of the wine that. in my view, is the Macchiole flagship. The 2016 saw 30-35 days on the skins, followed by malolactic fermentation in cement and 18 months in French oak.

Messorio is a wine that beautifully reflects the characteristics of the vintage and is a very accurate measuring stick of how any single vintage will eventually perform both in terms of near-term accessibility and long-term cellar aging. That said, the Le Macchiole 2017 Messorio plays its strongest cards in terms of mouthfeel and texture, revealing a robust structure and firmly integrated tannins that come from both the richly concentrated fruit and the careful use of oak. The wine shows a heavy center of gravity and a solid base of dark fruit that is enhanced by caramel, brown sugar, spice and creamy blackberry preserves. It does offer immediate appeal, but I'd wait a few more years to give this 2017 Messorio more time to flesh out and evolve.

The 2017 Messorio (100% Merlot) is classy and polished to the core. It is also incredibly young and not at all forthcoming. Messorio is a wine that needs a surprising amount of time in bottle to truly shine. I expect that will be the case here as well. Today, the 2017 is all about fruit and density. Time in the cellar should allow for its aromatics to emerge more fully. Overall, though, this is a fairly restrained style, in keeping with the showing of 2017 Bolgheri reds more broadly. All the elements come together so gracefully in this striking wine. Production is down around 20%.

Nase: Der 2018er Chinon vom Château de Coulaine zeigt die typische Finesse und Kühle des Cabernet Francs, die mich immer wieder aufs Neue fasziniert. Typisch ist sein Aroma, das an schwarze Johannisbeeren, Schlehe, Himbeere, Brombeere, grünen Paprika, rote Paprika gegrillt, Wacholder und Kamin erinnert. Ebenso deutlich sind auch die Anklänge von Holzrauch und Salmiakpastillen.

Mund: Am Gaumen wirkt er kraftvoll mit prägnanter Mineralität und erfrischender dunkler Fruchtfülle. Seine eindrückliche und zugleich reife Säure- und Tannin-Struktur verleiht im Gripp und Frische. Nie sattmachend, zeigt sich hier ein lebendiger und individueller Tropfen, der mit der typischen französischen und mediterranen Küche seinen perfekten Partner findet.

Made with organic Merlot grapes, the Petrolo 2019 Galatrona is soft and luscious, spreading evenly over the palate with elegance and sweeping intensity. The bouquet shows dark fruit, black cherry and sweet prune. Those dark fruit tones are woven into pretty layers of spice, leather and perfumed tobacco. I like the tight, compact, yet fundamentally rich quality that is part of the mouthfeel in this important vintage. This wine could be considered a bit lighter and more ethereal compared to recent past releases, but I found that all the wines in this batch of new releases go in this same direction.

Chateau Bellefont-Belcier 2019 Saint Emilion

BEST EVER für den Wineadvocate.
From a beautifully situated hillside vineyard, sandwiched between Larcis Ducasse and Tertre Roteboeuf on either side, with holdings belonging to Pavie and Troplong Mondot on the plateau above, the 2019 Bellefont Belcier has turned out very well indeed. Offering up aromas of smoky berry fruit, loamy soil, subtle spices, black truffle and violets, it's full-bodied, velvety and seamless, with a vibrant, enveloping profile and a long, penetrating finish. This is a terrific effort, though given the thoughtful farming and program of replanting that is underway at this long-neglected estate, I suspect it only hints at what is to come as Jean-Christophe Meyrou and his team get to work.

The 2019 Bellefont-Belcier is a wine of tremendous reserve. The 35% Cabernet Franc comes through in the wine's aromatic profile and overall feel. Readers will have to be patient, as the 2019 needs time to come together. It is a seriously impressive wine with tons of character. I have long admired Bellefont-Belcier for its potential. In the past, the tannins were simply overpowering, if the 2019 is any indication, that might be less of an issue going forward.

The 2019 Bellefont-Belcier was very impressive from barrel, and I have no reason to change that view in bottle. This is beautifully defined on the nose, which features vivacious red fruit laced with graphite and crushed stone. The palate is medium-bodied with finely chiseled tannins, fine tension and an almost pastille-like, graphite-tinged finish that lingers in the mouth. Superb.

The 2019 Pavie Macquin has turned out very well indeed, unwinding in the glass with aromas of blackcurrants, cherries, burning embers, black truffle and licorice, framed by a deft framing of new oak that's more discreet than was the case even a few vintages back. Full-bodied, layered and concentrated, it's deep and layered, with a strikingly vibrant core of fruit, powdery, chalky tannins and a long, penetrating, youthfully firm finish. Tasted alongside older vintages, it's clear that the Thienpont team have eased off extraction, which allows the quality of fruit that this fantastic vineyard produces to express itself all the more completely, delivering the finest Pavie Macquin since 1998.

Chateau Leoville Poyferre 2019 Saint Julien

The 2019 Léoville Poyferré is showing very well in bottle, wafting from the glass with aromas of crème de cassis and wild berries mingled with notions of licorice, loamy soil, cigar wrapper and smoke. Full-bodied, velvety and polished, it's broad and enveloping, with an ample core of fruit, ripe tannins and succulent acids, concluding with a long, precise finish. Invariably the most sumptuous of the three Léovilles, featuring some 35% Merlot, the 2019 is a terrific effort that will offer a wide drinking window.

In some tastings, the 2019 has come across as quite powerful, while in other moments it shows greater finesse. Either way, the 2019 is positively stunning. I very much admire its energy and persistence. Tasted three times.

The 2019 Léoville-Poyferré has the quintessential "LP" bouquet of perfumed blackberry, black plum, perhaps less tobacco than last year but still those hints of desiccated orange peel. It is perhaps less luxuriant than I found this last year from barrel and has become slightly more linear, displaying a touch more breeding and precision. It fans out wonderfully on the finish, completing a fabulous Saint-Julien with huge potential. 14.18% alcohol

Delivers ample structure in the guise of a cold cast iron note buried underneath the showy fruit, with a flash of violet for treble in the background. Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. Best from 2025 through 2040. 15,000 cases made.

Kraftvoll, sauber und komplex

Der gelungene Einstiegs-Monastrell von der Gil-Estate. Die Trauben für den Juan Gil Monastrell Yellow Label Jumilla DOP 2021 stammen aus den Weinbergen rund um der Kellerei auf einer Höhe von 700 Metern nordöstlich von Jumilla. Dieser Wein hat eine intensive und lebendige kirschrote Farbe. In der Nase ausgestattet mit sehr attraktiven Fruchtaromen, Noten von reifen Früchten aber auch Anklängen an neues Holz. Im Mund gut strukturiert, lebendig und schmackhaft, vollmundig, ausgewogen, mit einem angenehmen Abgang und sehr gutem Nachhall.

Der Jahrgang 2021 wurde noch nicht bewertet, aber die 89 Punkte von James Suckling für den 2020er Etiqueta Amarilla sind in diesem Preissegment schon beachtlich. Der Kritiker schreibt im Januar 2022: "Brombeeren, Pflaumen, Borke, Pilze und süße Gewürze in der Nase. Er ist mittel bis vollmundig mit geschmeidigen Tanninen. Weich und würzig."

Allein die Farbe, mit welcher der Bodegas Borsao Zarihs 2019 ins Glas geht, ist betörend: ein tief dunkles Purpurrot mit Violettreflexen. In der Nase unverkennbar Shiraz, intensive Aromen von dunklen Früchten und Backpflaumen, zu denen sich leichte Kaffeeröstaromen gesellen, abgerundet von einem Hauch Vanille, welcher sich mit etwas Zeit im Glas zu einer delikaten Note dunkler Schokolade entwickelt. Beim ersten Schluck merkt man es dann, den Syrah, den anderen Stil: festes Tannin trotz weicher Textur. Noten von Süßholz und - ganz zart - ein wenig Leder. Der Bodegas Borsao Zarihs 2019 schlägt die Brücke zweier Weinstile aus einer Rebsorte. vereint alte und neue Welt in sich und begeistert mit dem Besten von beiden.

Fakten zum Wein:
Der Bodegas Borsao Zarihs 2019 ist der fünfte Jahrgang des erfolgreichen Kooperationsprojekts von José Luis Chueca (Bodegas Borsao) und Chris Ringland. einer der Winzerikonen aus Übersee, besonders umtriebig in Australien. Name und Etikett spiegeln die unterschiedliche Typizität und die verschiendene Bezeichnung der Traube Syrah (in Frankreich und ges. alte Welt) / Shiraz (in Australien und ges. neue Welt) wider. Typisch für den Syrah der alten Welt ist die rauchige, leicht animalische Note mit Aromen von Süßholz. Leder und die kernige Struktur, Kaffeearomen. Noten von Dörrobst wie Backpflaumen, die weiche Textur und die Vanillenote des neuen Holzes spiegeln die Oppulenz des Shiraz der neuen Welt wider. Der Bodegas Borsao Zarihs 2019 - ein hervorragend gelungenes Projekt, zwei Stile perfekt in einem Wein zu vereinen, der mit allen Faccetten begeistert.

Der Jahrgang 2019 wurde noch nicht bewertet. Zum 2017er Zarihs vermerkte Josh Raynolds für Vinous im Februar 2021: "Gesättigtes Violett. Dunkle Beeren, kandierte Lakritze, Vanille und ein würziger Akzent von schwarzem Pfeffer in der von Eiche gewürzten Nase. Geschmeidig und ansprechend süß, mit Aromen von reifen Brombeeren und Kirschlikör, die von Andeutungen von Vanille und Blumenpastillen begleitet werden. Breit, fleischig und ansprechend marmeladig, im Abgang sehr lang und weich, mit einer wiederkehrenden Vanillenote und sich langsam aufbauenden Tanninen."

James Suckling bewertet den Bodegas Borsao Zarihs 2018 im September 2022 wie folgt:

Sweet coffee, chocolate and smoke to the tarry black cherries. A full-bodied syrah with firm tannins that provide some chew to the back of the palate, before a slightly warming finish. Give it one more year to come around. The woody sweetness and tannins are a little dominating now. Drink in 2024.

A lightly jammy garnacha, offering plenty of fruit with some chocolate. It’s full-bodied with some firmness. Nicely layered with a lightly smoky undertone. Drink now.

I tasted two vintages from the flagship oaked Garnacha, the youngest of which was the 2018 Tres Picos Garnacha. But unfortunately, I found both vintages (this and the warmer 2017) to be overtly oaky, with aromas that masked the personality of the grape and gave them an international profile of toast, spice and smoke and a palate with similar flavors plus a bitter twist in the finish. I'd much rather drink the young unoaked Borsao Tinto Selección than this one. The technical data mentions that it spent about six months in new French oak and has 15% alcohol. 200,000 bottles.

Josh Raynolds im Februar 2021:

Bright violet. Oak-spiced dark berries, licorice and mocha on the nose; a smoky nuance emerges with air. Broad, sweet and well-concentrated, offering cherry-vanilla, cola and blackberry flavors that show no rough edges. Closes with repeating oak-spice character and strong tenacity and supple tannins lending grip. There's a lot of oak here but there's plenty of fruit as well.

Der Bodegas Borsao Tres Picos 2018 bekommt satte 20 - 25 Tage Mazerationszeit. um noch die feinsten Aromen herauszuarbeiten. Nach abgeschlossener Fermentation geht es für 5 Monate in neue französische. speziell bordelaiser. Eiche. Die Reben entstammen einem in den Bergen hoch gelegenen. alten Garnachaweinberg. und bringen bedingt durch ihr Alter nur recht geringe Erträge. Die Intensität. die Qualität und das einstimmige Urteil der Weinwelt nach Degustation machen diesen Wein im Preis/Genuss-Verhältniss zu einem der Besten der Welt.

Villa Cerna Primocolle Chianti Classico DOCG 2020

Grandioses Chinati Classico Schnäppchen

Der Primcolle Chianti Classico 2020 wurde größtenteils aus Sangiovese gekeltert und mit der autochthonen Rebsorten Colorino verfeinert. Nach der schonenden Gärung und einer Reifezeit von 9 Monaten im Eichenfass und weiteren 3 Monaten auf der Flasche wird der Wein von der Villa Cerna freigegeben. Die sorgsame Vinifizierung merkt man dem Wein insbesondere anhand seiner markanten Aromen an. Dunkle, reife Kirschen treffen hier auf intensiv blumige Töne, die u.a. an Veilchen erinnern. Bruce Sanderson spricht für den Wine Spectator von "Eukalyptus, Salbei und Menthol sowie Aromen von Kirsche und Lakritze."
Dank des wohlbemessenen Fassausbaus erkennt man zudem edle Kakaonoten. Am Gaumen zeigt sich das Tanningerüst sehr feinkörnig und gut in die Gesamtstruktur integriert. "Schlank und ausgewogen im Mund mit seidigen Tanninen, präsentiert sich der Wein mit einer vibrierenden Frische und einem langen, saftigen Abgang," so sieht es Jens Priewe im Weinkenner. Und mit etwas Zeit im Glas und zum Abgang hin wandelt sich die schöne, saftige Frucht hin zu Himbeeren und Likörkirschen.

In jedem Fall haben Sie hier einen Wein für viele Gelegenheiten. Ob als Solist zum Zurüklehnen und Entspannen oder als Speisenbegleiter mit Freunden - z.B. zu gegrilltem oder geröstetem rotem Fleisch. Wurstwaren oder Käse.
