Wild cherry, smoke, leather, licorice, tobacco and incense are all jam packed into the wine's mid-weight frame. There is plenty of richness and overall intensity, but the contours are a bit chunky. Tasted two times.

Now in bottle, here is the Pessac-Léognan I know, with ample blackberry, cedar, black olive and light marine scents on the nose. The palate is medium-bodied with sappy black fruit, quite fleshy but still nicely structured, and showing fine backbone on the sappy, white-pepper- and sage-tinged finish. Now this is promising.

The 2016 Le C des Carmes Haut-Brion comes from vines located in the clos over towards Martillac, rather than the vines in the original Les Carmes Haut-Brion vineyard in the Bordeaux suburbs, known as "Le Clos des Carmes Haut-Brion" up until the 2013 vintage. It is a blend of 51% Merlot, 48% Cabernet Sauvigon and 1% Petit Verdot, matured in 30% new oak and the remainder one year old barrels. This includes 25% whole berry fruit. It offers plenty of brambly black fruit on the nose, crushed violets, fresh fig and a touch of spice that opens nicely in the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannin, neatly integrated oak, a little plushness on the entry thanks to the Merlot, and then it dovetails into a more structured, gently grippy, chalk-textured finish with attractive black fruit. Give this two or three years in bottle just to shave off a little abrasiveness and you will have a fine Pessac-Léognan.

William Kelley: Wie ich Anfang dieses Jahres schrieb, hat sich der 2019er Tronquoy-Lalande wunderschön entwickelt und zeigt sich weiterhin sehr gut. Er bietet einladende Aromen von wilden Beeren, Gewürzen, Rosenblättern und Cassis. Mittel bis vollmundig, vielschichtig und sinnlich, mit lebendigen Säuren, reifen Tanninen und einem langen, lebhaften Abgang, erinnert er an einen etwas sonnenverwöhnteren und extrovertierten Bruder des großartigen 2016er Jahrgangs an dieser Adresse. Wie ich Anfang dieses Jahres schrieb, ist Tronquoy-Lalande ein Weingut, das viel bekannter sein sollte. Dies war der zweite Weinberg, der in Saint-Estèphe bepflanzt wurde, nach dem Clos von Calon-Ségur, aber sein royalistischer Besitzer nahm aufgrund seiner Ablehnung von Napoléon III. nicht an der Klassifikation von 1855 teil. Der Weinberg selbst besteht aus einem einzigen 30 Hektar großen Block auf einem acht Meter tiefen Kiesrücken direkt hinter den Châteaux Meyney und Montrose. Mit dem Jahrgang 2021 bio-zertifiziert, hat Tronquoy-Lalande niemals Herbizide gesehen; und nach der Übernahme durch Olivier und Martin Bouygues im Jahr 2006 wurde die Kellerei mit Input des verstorbenen Jean-Philippe Delmas neu gestaltet und mit zweistufigen Edelstahltanks nach dem Modell von Château Haut-Brion ausgestattet. Sowohl William Kelley vom Wineadvocate als auch Antonio Galloni von Vinous haben das Chateau Franc Mayne im JG 2020 dramatisch aufgewertet gegenüber den verhaltenen Fassproben. Bei Parker ging es von 91-93 rauf auf glatte 94 Punkte und bei Antonio Galloni von Vinous sogar noch dramatisch mehr. Von 89-91 Punkten als Fassmuster auf glatte 96 Punkte, es gibt sehr wenige Weine die das überhaupt jemals geschafft haben. Auffällig ist das sich beim Chateau Franc Mayne viele Verkoster einig sind, dass die jüngst erzeugten Qualitäten hier massiv nach oben zeigen,

Auch ich konnte den Franc Mayne 2020 auf der Prowein in Düsseldorf nachverkosten und ich kann Ihnen versichern es ist kein Zufall, dass die Verkoster das Weingut neu und höher bewerten. Es geht hier wirklich bergauf, wollen wir hoffen, dass die Preise nicht so kometenhaft steigen wie die gebotene Qualität.

Ripe black cherries, chocolaty herbs, licorice, and graphite are just some of its nuances, and it's medium to full-bodied, with a round, layered texture, ripe tannins, and a great finish. Drink it over the coming decade.

While not as exuberant as the aromatics, this is nicely detailed and quite poised on the finish. No, I still cannot pronounce its name, but this Castillon Côtes de Bordeaux is well worth seeking out.

Medium to full-bodied, layered and concentrated, with lively acids, powdery tannins and a mineral finish, it's intelligently matured in tank and large-format oak as well as small barriques.

Dieser schöne Wein (eine Mischung aus 75% Merlot, 20% Cabernet Franc und 5% Cabernet Sauvignon) hat ein echtes Potenzial, sich im Keller zu verbessern.

Der Montlandrie 2019 war eines der verborgenen Juwele in Durantous Sortiment dieses Jahrgangs. Jetzt in der Flasche behält er ein wunderbar ausdrucksvolles, lebhaftes Bouquet aus schwarzen und roten Früchten und Andeutungen von Veilchen und zerstoßenem Stein. Der Gaumen ist mittelkräftig, mit geschmeidigen, sehr feinen Tanninen und einer perfekten Linie der Säure. Intensiv, doch feinsinnig, führend zu einem seidig-glatten Abgang. Lange ist es her, dass uns ein "kleiner" Bordeaux so sehr begeistert hat wie dieser 2020iger Chateau Marjosse. Schon in den Primeurproben stach dieser Wein mit einer sehr guten Leistung heraus. Jetzt,nachdem wir die ersten abgefüllten Flaschen im Laden haben, konnten wir unser Interesse nicht zügeln und haben direkt verkostet. Unglaublich kompakte Aromatik, viel dunkle Frucht, auch etwas kühl Würziges zeigt sich im Hintergrund. Klar ist bei diesem Wein der Merlot tonangebend, eben mit dieser fast schon verschwenderischen Frucht, durch einen guten Anteil an Cabernet Franc verfügt der Wein über Frische, Tannin und würzige Tiefe. Cabernet Franc, der heimliche Star am rechten Ufer des Bordeaux. Wenn sich dann auch noch einer der erfahrendsten und besten Winemaker verantwortlich zeigt, muss am Ende schon was gutes bei rauskommen. Aber "gut" wäre bei diesem Wein eine wirkliche Untertreibung. Bitte verpassen Sie diesen Wein nicht, denn was kann es Schöneres geben, als sorgenlos eine Flasche nach der anderen öffenn zu können ohne sich Sorgen um das Weinbudget machen zu müssen.

Medium garnet-purple in color, the 2020 Marjosse Rouge needs a little coaxing to reveal notes of cast-iron pan, crushed rocks, and dusty soil over a core of red plums, blackberry preserves, and mulberries, plus a hint of bay leaves. Medium to full-bodied, the palate is tightly knit with fine-grained tannins and bold freshness supporting the nuanced black and red fruits, finishing long and minerally.

The 2020 Langoa Barton has turned out superbly in bottle, offering up generous aromas of black cherries, crème de cassis, licorice and pencil shavings deftly framed by classy new oak. Medium to full-bodied, deep and fleshy, its concentrated core of ripe but vibrant fruit is framed by sweet, powdery tannins and lively acids. Beautifully balanced, it's somewhat more open out of the gates than the excellent 2019 and will offer an especially broad drinking window.t add a grippy, juicy feel to the finish, while an iron note adds cut and drive. Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Cabernet Franc. Best from 2026 through 2036. 6,400 cases made.

Tasted on multiple occasions, the 2020 Château Langoa Barton comes from a mix of different sites in Saint-Julien, which makes it a great representation of the vintage and appellation. The blend is 53.5% Cabernet Sauvignon, 38% Merlot, and the rest Cabernet Franc. It exhibits a deep ruby/purple hue to go with a beautiful bouquet of red and black cherries, currants, leafy tobacco, and cedar pencil, with a touch of damp earth that emerges with time in the glass. Medium to full-bodied, balanced, and elegant on the palate, it has plenty of mid-palate depth and richness, velvety tannins, and a great finish. This plush, up-front, expansive, wonderfully textured Saint-Julien will benefit from just a few years of bottle age and cruise for two decades. It's the finest example from this château I've tasted. Bravo!
