Tasted two times.

Now in bottle, here is the Pessac-Léognan I know, with ample blackberry, cedar, black olive and light marine scents on the nose. The palate is medium-bodied with sappy black fruit, quite fleshy but still nicely structured, and showing fine backbone on the sappy, white-pepper- and sage-tinged finish. Now this is promising.

The 2016 Le C des Carmes Haut-Brion comes from vines located in the clos over towards Martillac, rather than the vines in the original Les Carmes Haut-Brion vineyard in the Bordeaux suburbs, known as "Le Clos des Carmes Haut-Brion" up until the 2013 vintage. It is a blend of 51% Merlot, 48% Cabernet Sauvigon and 1% Petit Verdot, matured in 30% new oak and the remainder one year old barrels. This includes 25% whole berry fruit. It offers plenty of brambly black fruit on the nose, crushed violets, fresh fig and a touch of spice that opens nicely in the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannin, neatly integrated oak, a little plushness on the entry thanks to the Merlot, and then it dovetails into a more structured, gently grippy, chalk-textured finish with attractive black fruit. Give this two or three years in bottle just to shave off a little abrasiveness and you will have a fine Pessac-Léognan.

Der strohgelbe und feinperlige Pol Roger Brut Réserve ist in der Nase intensiv und verströmt zunächst fruchtige Aromen von Birne und Mango, die schnellergänzt werden von Geißblatt und weißem Jasmin, begleitet auch von Vanille- und Brioche-Noten. The youthful, flashy exuberance of this wine is impossible to miss. The Tua Rita 2019 Rosso dei Notri offers pronounced primary fruit that bursts out of the glass with immediate directness and frankness. This is a blend of 30% Sangiovese, 30% Cabernet Sauvignon, 20% Syrah and 20% Merlot. Although it's not declared, there's a tiny touch of Cabernet Franc in there as well that grounds the wine with an extra point of darkness and richness. Most of the blending components do not see oak, but those that do (like the Merlot) go through a brief three months in declassified barrique (hand-downs from Tua Rita's top wines). This estate practices a clever pre-harvest harvest. Some of the fruit from across the various parcels is harvested about 10 days earlier. That fruit, with its extra freshness and acidic brightness, goes into this wine. Indeed, some 150,000 bottles are produced, so this is the bread-and-butter bottle from the estate. The best clusters are left on the vines to mature fully before the second harvest, and that fruit goes into Tua Rita's benchmarks. Doing two harvests in this manner preserves the character of the best fruit on the one hand and creates this entry-level offering on the other. This easy red is a great match to a platter of Italian salumi and cheeses. This wine will be released in June 2020, and it offers terrific value.

"Solèr" ist ein venezianisches Dialektwort und bedeutet soviel wie Dachboden, Kornkammer. Dort wurden einst die besten Trauben von den Weinbauern getrocknet. De Stefani greift auf diese alte Tradition zurück und trocknet einen Teil der Trauben, wodurch dem Wein Milde und ein Anklang nach Lakritz verliehen wird. Im Glas zeigt sich der De Stefani Soler IGT Veneto rosso 2018 mit intensiver rubinroter Färbung und fruchtigem Duft nach sehr reifen Früchten, nach eingelegten Pflaumen, nach Veilchen und würzigen Noten.
