Kumeu River 2014 Village Pinot Gris
NEU ! Top Preis-Genuss

Kumeu auf seiner Website:
Made by Master of Wine Michael Brajkovich from sustainably grown Pinot Gris grapes that are hand-harvested and sorted in our Kumeu Vineyards then gently whole-bunch pressed. Fermented using local wild yeast with extended maturation on the yeast lees.

The aromas have typical peach and stone fruit notes tinged with the floral perfume that we have come to expect from Pinot Gris. The wine is lively, complex and lingers on the palate. Pinot Gris is a variety that goes particularly well with food, including quite intensely flavoured dishes. It is also one of the few wine styles that can handle the spiciness of chilli

Kumeu River 2014 Village Pinot Noir

NEU ! Top Preis-Genuss

Kumeu auf seiner Website:

In 1994, we established new plantings of Pinot Noir on our Kumeu River Estate. We chose only the best new planting material available from Burgundy and grafted onto extremely low vigour rootstocks to limit the yield and intensify the flavour of this wonderfully aristocratic grape variety.

The Kumeu River "Village" label is the second tier to our top Kumeu River label, and as such is a little lighter than the Kumeu River Pinot Noir.

This wine has a pretty Pinot aroma of ripe berries together with the maturation complexity gained from careful ageing in small oak barrels. The wine is delicate but the texture is smooth and velvety on the palate, with length of flavour and a lovely crisp finish.

Dog Point Sauvignon Blanc 2016 Weltklasse Sauvignon
TOP
Für uns die Sauvignon Blanc Referenz !

This wine offers a clear style contrast to Section 94, Dog Point's complex, barrel-aged Sauvignon Blanc (see the Branded and Other White Wines section). Hand-harvested at several sites in the Wairau Valley, it is lees-aged in tanks but handled without oak. The classy 2016 vintage (5 stars) is highly scented, very fresh and vibrant. Weighty, it has searching, ripe grapefruit/lime flavours, firm acid spine and a dry (3 grams/litre of residual sugar), lasting finish. Highly concentrated and tightly structured, it's a very harmonious wine, arguably the best vintage yet.

Really impressive complex and polished aromas here: dark cherries, earthy nuances, chocolate and spices. There are some grilled nuts too, as well as some perfume, which add further allure, making this really compelling. Lisa Perrotti Brown Dez. 2015:
The 2013 Chardonnay is a funked-up, full-on sulphide led wine, which is OK because there’s plenty of intense fruit to back-up the winemaking. The nose has a stuck-match and savory / minerally appeal supporting the ripe peach, passion fruit and spiced apple pie scents plus a nutty undercurrent. Medium-bodied, it fills the mouth with creamy, stone fruit and marzipan characters supported by a lively acid line and finishing with great persistence.

A beautifully judged, barrel-fermented sauvignon that's really complex but tightly integrated. It shows attractive lemons, limes and grapefruit as well as ripe peaches and green mangoes across some gently waxy, lanolin-like notes and dried grass. The oak is subdued and discreet, adding a neat, spicy and gently meaty savory thread. There's a wealth of flesh and weight below, as handy oak spices run through some crisp yet concentrated melon and papaya with a wash of lime juice. Great acidity, a smooth and supple texture and a succulent and flavorsome finish. Gently creamy. Drink now.

Cloudy Bay Sauvignon Blanc 2016 Marlborough
TOP

The 2016 Sauvignon Blanc Marlborough has a nose of fresh grass, bell peppers and pea pods over a core of grapefruit, green apples and lime zest. The light to medium-bodied palate is just a little lean in the middle, with appealingly youthful vitality, but it just doesn't have its typical intensity and persistence.

Greywacke Pinot Noir 2013 Marlborough
97-98 Punkte Raymond Chan
Marlborough Pinot Noir is severely under-recognised. Some superb bottlings have emerged over the years. Fromm, Villa Maria, Auntsfield, Saint Clair, TerraVin and Te Whare Ra to name a few. The Greywacke is another one up there. At present about 20% whole bunch. Maybe more can work well? Moderately dark ruby-red with slight purple hues. This has a full, deep nose of ripe dark raspberry and cherry fruit with an array of soft red fruits and florals, the faintest whole bunch herbal detail, some toasty oak spices. Full-flavoured and mouthfilling layers of flavour unfold. It isn't the ripest and darkest in fruit, but the interplay of soft red fruits, florals, herbs, spices and toasty oak is sensational to me. Soft and supple textures enhance the opulence and the wine carries effortlessly to a lush and exotic finish.

Fruit from ‘Les Arbres’ a section in the lie of the forest, the whole bunches ‘crunched’ and warm-fermented in 600 L demi-muids to 14.5% alc. and 1.8 g/L RS, the wine aged 11 months in 40% new demi-muids, the wine undergoing batonnage with 75% MLF. Full, even, light golden yellow colour. The bouquet is full and broad with well-concentrated aromas of ripe apricots and savoury yellow stonefruit kernels, lifted by exotic yellow florals. This has great presence, the fruit stylishly reserved, growing subtly in creamy, nutty richness. Dry to taste and full bodied, a fulsome and mouthfilling array of flavours of ripe, exotic tropical fruits are lifted by exotic yellow florals with nutty and honied notes. This is rich and weighty with a rounded, near unctuous mouthfeel and soft textures. The generosity is enhanced by some alcohol power which leads to a soft, full, rich finish with exotic floral and stonefruit flavours. This is a full, rich, mouthfilling Viognier with exotic fruit flavours and underlying power. Match with Asian and Middle Eastern fare over the next 5+ years. Feb 2015 19.0-/20 Feb 2015

This latest release of James and Annie Millton’s ’Clos de Ste Anne’ collection may be the finest yet. They consider 2013 to be "possibly the best vintage in 30 years and all five of these wines will age for many years to come”. Indeed, the 2013 vintage is seen as one of the greats in the Gisborne, and north eastern North Island regions, and to date, the wines I’ve seen bear this out. The ‘Clos de Ste Anne’ wines are very special for the Milltons, as they are the produce from the single ‘Clos de Ste Anne’ estate, based on the original ‘Naboth’s Vineyard’ planted in 1981 to assess the potential of hillside vineyards in Gisborne. ‘Naboth’s’ was a completely different approach to the region’s existing vineyards which were planted on the flat land, primarily designed with high yields and ease of management in mind. Based on the unique character of the resultant wines, the Milltons extended the plantings in 1989, consolidating the varietal mix. ‘Naboth’s’ is now joined by ‘La Bas’, ‘La Cote’, ‘Les Arbres’, and ‘The Crucible’, and all these vineyards lie in the ‘Clos de Ste Anne’ estate which measures just over 12 ha.

The Clos de Ste Anne wines are particularly special for James Millton, as they are a tribute to his wife Annie. They are made with the greatest technical care, but also with the greatest love and inspiration to reflect their philosophies and experience of winegrowing for over three decades. Stylistically, the wines draw from the example of the world’s great wines, but they seek to capture the uniqueness of the Milton’s approach and the terroir of the site. Complexity and interest are aims in their making. Organic winegrowing, Millton being BioGro organic certified since 1989 and the adherence to biodynamics, Millton being Demeter certified since 2009, are all integral with the crafting of these wines, these concepts part of the Millton’s foundation. Here, I review the 2013 ‘Clos de Ste Anne’ collection, due for release at the start of March 2015.

16. Februar 2015:
Brilliant, light golden-hued straw-yellow colour lighter on edge. The nose is very elegant, tightly bound and refined in expression, with restrained aromas of white and yellow florals and stonefruits, along with nuances of pineapple, unveiling waxy mineral, wet stone and nutty detail. The aromatics grow in presence and depth with aeration. Bone-dry to taste and medium-full bodied, the intensity and depth of fruit confers an elegance of proportion. Tightly concentrated flavours of white and yellow stonefruits are subtly lifted by floral and honeysuckle notes and mineral suggestions. The palate features a fine-grained phenolic core of fruit extract, enlivened and driven by bright, lacy acidity. Some alcoholic power underlines the fruit which carries to a richly detailed, long lingering, dry finish. This is a fresh, elegantly concentrated, powerfully driven dry Chenin Blanc with stonefruit and mineral flavours. Serve with seafood and white meat dishes over the next 10 years.

Cloudy Bay Te Koko Sauvignon Blanc 2013 Marlborough

Another nicely groomed and balanced edition of this flagship wine. It has a layer of dried flowers, beeswax and dried wild grasses across more fruit-centered aromas like lime leaves, lime curd and subtly spicy French oak influence. The palate has a more savory start with hints of nougat, honey and passionfruit. Some pastry-like savory moments as it builds texture and weight before folding neatly into an attractive, pithy, lime-citrus finish. Drink now to 2020.

James Suckling 30.04.2014:

A moody pinot that has plenty of spice draped across the top of quite deep plum and dark cherry fruits, as well as an earthy, savoury note and a red cherry fruit note too, looks very promising and complex, finely fragrant and very composed. There's a layered, smooth build across the palate with a neatly phrased tannin structure that reads discreetly through deep fruit flavour that balances well through to a nut-ripe tannin flavoured finish, cherry pip tang to close.
