Aromas of blackberries, walnuts, dark chocolate and dried violets. Some tar and dried tobacco, too. It’s medium-to full-bodied with firm, tightly knit tannins. Firm and structured, yet very fine. Try in 2026.

The 2019 Bellegrave (Pauillac) is showing nicely in bottle, offering up aromas of cassis and plums mingled with hints of pencil shavings and vanilla pod. Medium to full-bodied, velvety and seamless, it's elegantly layered, with powdery tannins, succulent acids and a lingering finish. This is a fine effort for this 8.30-hectare family-owned château.

The 2020 Bellegrave (Pauillac) displays a deep purple-black color and pronounced notes of warm cassis, stewed black plums and redcurrant jelly, plus hints of cedar chest, bouquet garni and unsmoked cigars. Medium-bodied, the palate is chewy and refreshing, delivering a modest fruit offering and a stewed tea finish.

The 2020 Bellegrave has a well-defined bouquet of blackberry, wild hedgerow and light iris petal scents, mint and cedar gently unfurling with aeration. The palate is medium-bodied with crunchy black fruit, a fine bead of acidity, cedar and graphite pinning it down as Pauillac and nowhere else on the finish. Good show!

Die Degustationsnotiz des Wine Advocate zum Reserve de la Comtesse 2020 Pauillac :

Composed of 47% Merlot, 43% Cabernet Sauvignon and 10% Petit Verdot, the 2020 Reserve de la Comtesse is redolent of cassis, redcurrant jelly and raspberry coulis, plus suggestions of chocolate box, lilacs and stewed tea, with a waft of unsmoked cigars. The medium-bodied palate delivers mouth-coating, juicy black fruits with a soft texture and seamless freshness, finishing long with a spicy kick. This is a very different style from the grand vin, possessing a more playful, upfront and effortlessly delicious character that truly draws you in!

90-92 Punkte vom Vinous-Team für den Chateau Pichon-Longueville Comtesse de Lalande 2020
Das meint die Vinous-Mannschaft um Antonio Galloni zum Chateau Pichon-Longueville Comtesse de Lalande:

The 2020 Réserve de Pichon Comtesse is very harmonious on the nose, featuring plenty of blackberry, wild strawberry and light touches of salted licorice and estuarine scents; this is going to be very seductive. The palate is medium-bodied with sappy black fruit and fine-grained tannins, not a powerful or deep Deuxième Vin, leading to a poised, quite spicy, peppery finish. This should give 12–15 years of drinking pleasure.

A little bit of an under-the-radar Pauillac, the 2020 Château Croizet-Bages exbibits attractive aromatics of sweet currants, cherries, new saddle leather, and cedar pencil. These carry to a medium-bodied, nicely balanced, elegant 2020 with ripe, polished tannins, terrific balance, and outstanding length. A beautiful wine, it already has some up-front appeal yet should benefit from 3-5 years of bottle age and have a good two decades of overall longevity.

A consistent Pauillac, the 2022 Château Fonbadet has textbook notes of both red and black currants as well as freshly sharpened pencils, tobacco, and some subtle earthy nuances. It's balanced, medium to full-bodied, has ripe, supple tannins, and a great finish. You certainly wouldn't know it comes from an extremely hot, dry vintage by tasting it. There's enough structure here to warrant 4-6 years of bottle age, but it's an outstanding wine in the making.

95 Punkte vergibt Jeb Dunnuck für den Le Petit Mouton de Mouton Rothschild 2019 PauillacJeb Dunnuck im April 2022:

The 2019 Le Petit Mouton De Mouton Rothschild is one heck of a second wine and has a rare level of depth and density. A blend of 68% Cabernet Sauvignon and 32% Merlot, it reveals a dense ruby/purple hue to go with textbook Pauillac notes of cedar pencil, smoke tobacco, spice box, blackcurrants, and graphite. Deep, rich, medium to full-bodied, and beautifully balanced, it's probably better than many vintages of the Grand Vin. I absolutely love its purity of fruit, balance, and structure. It needs a healthy decant if drinking any time soon and will benefit from 4-6 years of bottle age, but it will have over two decades of longevity. Just don't tell yourself it's a second wine and you'll think you're drinking the Grand Vin.

92 Punkte vom Wine Advocate für den Le Petit Mouton de Mouton Rothschild 2019 PauillacWilliam Kelley im April 2022:

The 2019 Le Petit Mouton is notably serious this year, offering up a rich bouquet of minty berries, cherries, licorice and toasty new oak. Medium to full-bodied, deep and concentrated, with a generous core of fruit, youthfully chewy tannins and a long, sapid finish, it will reward a bit of bottle age.

21 Jan, 2022 – A luscious red with redcurrant, chocolate, plum and hazelnut. Rather opulent on the nose. Full-bodied and very structured with chewy tannins that are intense and powerful. This needs time to come together and soften. 68% cabernet sauvignon and 32% merlot. Better after 2027

The 2019 Le Petit-Mouton is flat-out gorgeous. The energy, tension and delineation here are all first class. There is no doubt in my mind that in a previous era, this could have been a First Growth wine. Maybe not in a truly great vintage, but certainly in anything less than that. Bright red-toned fruit, rose petal, mint and blood orange all run through the 2019, lending notable depth to play off the wine's freshness. I am every bit as excited about the Petit Mouton as I was en primeur. It is a fabulous wine in every way. Wow!

94 Punkte vom Vinous-Team für den Le Petit Mouton de Mouton Rothschild 2019 PauillacUnd Neal Martin )Vinous) zum Le Petit Mouton de Mouton Rothschild 2019 Pauillac:

The 2019 Le Petit Mouton clearly retains its bold bouquet of bravura scents of blackberry, blood orange, and touches of cassis and violet petals, the 50% new oak seamlessly integrated over 18 months. The palate is silky-smooth on the entry, deep and displaying fine grip. This is definitely one of the most seductive Le Petit Mouton releases in recent years. It tightens a little toward the graphite-tinged finish, so afford it more time in bottle than I originally predicted. Superb.

Château Batailley 2021 Pauillac
Die Bewertung für den Chateau Batailley 2021 Pauillac Grand Cru Classe vom Wine Cellar Insider lautet wie folgt.JEFF LEVE
92-94

Tiefdunkles Rubingranat, opaker Kern, violette Reflexe, zarte Randaufhellung.

The aromas to this are really amazing, with a potpourri of spices and dried flowers, as well as redcurrants, sweet plums and even some peaches. Full-bodied with layers of ripe fruit and ultra-fine tannins that spread across the palate in an encompassing yet always elegant and pure way. It’s succulent and unadulterated. Like crushed, perfectly ripened grapes. The length is rather endless. The tannins build. Fabulous young red. 35% in amphora and the rest in 50% new oak and 15% one-year oak. 65% cabernet sauvignon and 30% merlot, the rest cabernet franc and petit verdot. From biodynamically grown grapes. Try after 2028, but an absolute joy to taste now.

96 Punkte vom Vinous-Team für den Chateau Pontet Canet 2019 PauillacAntonio Galloni (Vinous) bewertet den Chateau Pontet Canet 2019 Pauillac:
The 2019 Pontet-Canet was so effusive and generous en primeur. Today, though, it is quite reticent. That won't be an issue for those who can be patient, but patience indeed will be the key here. Dark red fleshed fruit, tobacco, cedar, spice, kirsch, mint and blood orange gradually open with a bit of coaxing. Imposing tannins wrap it all together. The 2019 is a drop-dead gorgeous beauty, but it needs time.

94 Punkte vom Vinous-Team für den Chateau Pontet Canet 2019 PauillacUnd Neal Martin (Vinous) zum Chateau Pontet Canet 2019 Pauillac:
The 2019 Pontet Canet was picked from September 23 until October 10, finishing with the Petit Verdot, and bottled in mid-June/July. My sample, tasted at the property, was decanted. Matured in 50% new oak and 35% concrete amphora, this is endowed with an intense, enveloping bouquet of opulent blackberry and boysenberry fruit laced with crushed violet and light fig aromas, becoming more floral with aeration and revealing crushed violet petals. The palate is medium-bodied with layered black fruit, cracked black pepper, hints of pencil lead and a splash of soy. This is one of the most powerful Pauillac wines that I encountered this vintage, very juicy and with plenty of rondeur on the very spicy finish. This should give three decades of drinking pleasure.

Very lush out of the gate, with waves of gently mulled plum, blackberry and black currant fruit that roll through slowly, lined with alder, sweet tobacco, worn cedar and singed savory notes. Delivers a late tug of iron that's well-buried on a finish marked by lingering perfume, resulting in an end impression of a rich wine that's very light on its feet. Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. Best from 2023 through 2036.

The 2019 Echo de Lynch-Bages, matured in one-year-old barrels for 12 months, has a crisp blackberry, briar and cedar bouquet with touches of mint, quite vibrant and lively. The medium-bodied palate offers succulent tannins and mulberry and black plum flavors intermingling with black truffle and white pepper. Maybe just a little abrupt on the finish at the moment, but that will fill out in time.

The 2019 Echo De Lynch-Bages is the second wine of Château Lynch-Bages and it's beautifully done, with a more floral, perfumed, pretty style compared to the Grand Vin, yet it still brings plenty of structure. Red and black currants, sappy flowers, tobacco leaf, and gravelly earth all define the bouquet, and it's medium-bodied, has integrated acidity, gorgeous tannins, and a great finish. It's beautifully balanced and already accessible, yet will nevertheless benefit from 4-5 years of bottle age.

The 2019 Fonbadet, impressive from barrel, has a delineated bouquet of blackberry, bilberry and touch of licorice that gains intensity with aeration; this is a Pauillac with ambition. The palate is medium-bodied with grip and density, broad shoulders and a very saline finish. This should age supremely well.

92 Punkte von Jeb Dunnuck für den Chateau Fonbadet 2016 PauillacDer Chateau Fonbadet 2016 Pauillac von Jeb Dunnuck beschrieben:

Château Fonbadet has turned out an incredibly successful 2016, a blend of 70% Cabernet Sauvignon and 30% Merlot raised in 50% new oak. It has outstanding notes of tobacco leaf, graphite, and some earthy black and blue fruit as well as medium to full-bodied richness and depth on the palate. While I never feel this cuvée hits the highs of its neighbors, the estate certainly seems to have all the right materials, with high density vineyards consisting of 60-year-old vines planted in the classic gravelly soils of the appellation. Yields are miniscule, everything is hand harvested (in 2016 harvest occurred between the 3rd and 25th of October), vinification occurs all in concrete, the wine sees malolactic in barrel, and they use judicious yet high-class oak. I suspect this is an estate to keep on your radar.
