The 2020 Reserva showcases wines from the Haro region and is a blend of Tempranillo, Garnacha, Mazuelo and Graciano fermented in oak vat with a seven-day maceration. It was aged in barrel for 24 months—80% French and the rest are from central Europe and America. It was bottled at 14.5% alcohol and a pH of 3.55. This is a very reliable wine, keeping the profile year after year: ripe, juicy with integrated oak, spicy and tasty, with fine tannins with an approachable profile. This is a gentler year that is going to be a success with the general public. Balanced and gentle. They produced 936,000 bottles. It was bottled in June 2023.

Dieser Selección Especial 2019 hat eine schwarzkirschrote Farbe und eine tiefe Robe. The subtle and harmonious 2019 Selección Especial reflects a very complete and good vintage. It has to be one of the finest vintages for this wine. 2019 is a powerful vintage with balance and freshness. The grapes ripened thoroughly and developed a full set of aromas and flavors. It's complex and nuanced, with abundant, fine-grained tannins and a long, dry and tasty finish. Selección applies to the vineyards but also the barrels and everything that contributes to this wine; it's not only a selection of lots, which was the case before the 1994 vintage. 274,992 bottles produced. It was bottled between April and June 2022 after 26 months in barrel.

Der EL Anden de la Estacion 2021 Muga Family Rioja hat eine mittlekräftige rubinrote Farbe. In der Nase treten die Noten von roten Beerenfrüchten in den Vordergrund, mit gut eingebundenen, dezent in Erscheinung tretenden Röstaromen. Am Gaumen ist er leicht und sehr klar definiert, mit seidigen Tanninen, wobei er dank der perfekt ausgewogenen Säure frisch und elegant bleibt.

The red 2021 El Andén de la Estación follows the 2019, as they didn't produce a 2020. It's a red with a very commercial profile: approachable, juicy, fruit driven and with very integrated oak. It's a blend of Tempranillo and 30% Garnacha, with 15% alcohol (the effect of Garnacha). It is showy, ripe, a bit heady and hedonistic, but it keeps the balance with good freshness. The wine has quite a lot of Garnacha character—grapey, chewy, velvety and easy to drink. They do not use any new barrels. The wine is aged for some 14 months, and the oak is very integrated and folded into the wine. The bottle has the Crianza back label. This will be ideal for the by-the-glass market. They produced close to 200,000 bottles. It was bottled in June 2023.

Bodegas Muga Reserva 2018 Rioja

Intensiv und komplex, ausgewogen und weich.

Die Rahmendaten zum Bodegas Muga Reserva 2018 Rioja: Handlese, Gärung mit einheimischen Hefen in Holzbottichen. Reifung für 24 Monate in Fässern aus von uns ausgewählter Eiche. Das Holz stammt zu 80% aus französischer Eiche und zu 20% aus amerikanischer Eiche. Vor der Flaschenabfüllung wird der Wein mit frischem Eiweiß geklärt. Anschließend wird er in unserem Flaschenkeller mindestens 12 Monate lang verfeinert, bevor er zum Verkauf freigegeben wird. Und weil Muga in 2018 auf die Produktion des Aro, des Torre Muga und auch des Prado Enea verzichtete, flossen die gewöhnlich für diese Spitzenweine der Bodegas reservierten Trauben in diesem Jahr in den Reserva.

This was the only red that Muga made in 2018, and the wines from the best vineyards went into the blend. In other words, top vineyards were declassified. Medium-bodied with very fine tannins that are caressing and refined. Plenty of subtle berries, chocolate and walnuts. Tempranillo with garnacha, mazuelo and graciano. January 2021 release. Moderner Stil! Der Jahrgang 2019 ist ein eleganter Wein ...

... mit großer Farbtiefe, ein sattes Rot mit violetten Reflexen, die auf seine Jugendlichkeit und sein Entwicklungspotenzial hinweisen. In der Nase entfaltet sich ein intensives Aroma von Brombeeren und Erdbeeren. Die rauchigen Nuancen des Ausbaus in feinster französischer Eiche kommen durch und schaffen eine unvergleichliche Harmonie. Am Gaumen ist er kraftvoll, mit den gleichen vorherrschenden Aromen wie in der Nase und einem guten Gleichgewicht zwischen Alkohol und Säure sowie weichen, eleganten Tanninen. Der Abgang ist sehr lang im Mund und hinterlässt ein Gefühl von Fülle.

The 2019 Torre Muga showcases the classical blend of Tempranillo, Mazuelo (Cariñena) and Graciano, all from old and some ancient vines. The grapes are harvested into 200-kilogram boxes, the bunches destemmed and the grapes put through optical sorting to ferment in small oak vats with indigenous yeasts. Malolactic was in new French oak barrels, where the wine aged after racking for some 18 months, during which time it was racked every eight to nine months. It was fined with egg whites. 2019 is a great vintage for Muga, and they produced quality and quantity, which is remarkable. This has a slightly more modern profile and some French oak undertones, more noticeable in a wide glass and subtler in a narrower one. But it has stuffing, freshness and balance to absorb it in the short to medium term. And it's a year of power and finesse, one of the best in recent years. 47,880 bottles produced. It was bottled in July 2021.

Am Gaumen eine schöne Frische und ein überzeugendes Volumen. Feine Tannine, die sich mit der Reifung noch weiter intergrieren dürften. Sehr schöne Länge. Der Bodegas Roda 2021 Sela DOCa Rioja überzeugt auf der ganzen Strecke.

The 2021 Sela is a preview of what's to come from the vintage with its bigger brothers, fresh wines with stuffing and balance in this cooler year. It was produced with 89% Tempranillo, 7% Garnacha and 4% Graciano with classical parameters, 14% alcohol, a pH of 3.6 and 5.35 grams of acidity. It was bottled after spending 12 months in French oak barrels.

The organic Garnacha 2019 La Montesa fermented with indigenous yeasts in stainless steel vats and matured in barriques for 12 months. As it was very recently bottled, I tasted from two bottles, one uncorked the day before and the other uncorked just before the tasting. The bottle from the day before was more expressive in the nose, but I also liked the austerity of the just-opened bottle. The wine is concentrated and powerful, richer and more concentrated than the 2018, with more density and ripe flavors. It has a medium-bodied palate with very fine tannins. The 800,000 kilos of grapes were hand harvested and selected, trying to avoid very ripe grapes to control the degrees of alcohol, with natural acidity, and the wine is lively and pure, with measured oak. The colors in all the reds are bright ruby, not too dark, and the fruit is red rather than black, despite the warmer and drier year. It has the very fine tannins of the Garnacha in limestone soils. 660,600 bottles and 10,000 magnums produced.

Das ist das Motto des Bodegas Felix Callejo Flores de Callejo 2022. Gut gelaunt, entwaffnend charmant und so völlig anders, als die vielen harten, störrischen und spröden Weine, die sonst eine angebliche Typizität der Region vermitteln wollen. Was die Macher des 2022er Flores de Callejo, den Wein mit dem wohl schönsten Etikett des Anbaugebietes, hier geschafft haben, ist absolut einmalig: Ein Wein voller Trinkfreude von dem man sich gerne noch etwas nachschenken möchte.- Und noch ein Glas. Und noch ein weiteres Glas. Wow! Seine funkelnde Violette Farbe lassen bereits erahnen, dass dieser Wein ein Ausbruch an Jugendlichkeit sein wird. Beim Flores ist das Funkeln der Jugendlichkeit nicht einem langen Ausbau zum Opfer gefallen. Kurze fünf Monate haben dem Flores genügt, um zu diesem Prachtexemplar an Jungwein zu werden. Woher die Qualität herkommt wird also spätestens jetzt klar: Alle Macht den Trauben! Im Duft präsentiert der Flores ein Füllhorn an Waldbeeren, etwas Süßholz, alles sehr lebendig und von großer Fröhlichkeit. Die Aromen des Buketts wiederholen sich auch am Gaumen, bleiben lang haften, werden begleitetet von irre hochwertigem Tannin, was sehr poliert und feingliedrig wirkt. Die Säure belebt das Mundgefühl, begleitet den Wein zum Ausklang und rundet den sehr charmanten Gesamteindruck dieses Klasse-Weines ab.

Gran Reserva in Perfektion! Sorgfältige Auswahl von den hoch gelegenen Parzellen der Rioja Alta in den Dörfern Sajazarra, Cellorigo und Fonzaleche

Ein stilvolles Bouquet von schwarzen Früchten, die sich mit Gewürzen, Lebkuchen und Lakritze vermischen. Der weiche, geschmeidige Einstieg am Gaumen führt zu einem Gefühl von sanfter Kraft und luftig-leichtem Volumen, untermauert von kaschmirartigen, seidigen Tanninen, die von einer frischen Säure harmonisch ausgeglichen werden. Im Abgang kommen cremige Vanillenoten mit reifen Früchten zum Vorschein. Dieser Wein verlockt zum zum sofortigen Genuss, aber er wird noch viele Jahre lang gut altern.

The most classical of their wines, the 2015 Prado Enea Gran Reserva is a blend of Tempranillo, Garnacha, Mazuelo and Graciano, mostly from Rioja Alta (Sajazarra, Cellorigo and Fonzaleche), but the Garnacha is from different plots in the zone of Tudelilla at high altitude. These grapes are always picked last, but the wine has a similar alcohol level as the rest, around 14.5% in a warm year like 2019. The modus operandi is similar to other of the top cuvées—harvested into 200-kilogram boxes, destemming, optical sorting and fermentation in small oak casks with indigenous yeasts. The élevage in this case is extended to 36 months, and the barrels are only 10% new. This is, year in, year out, my favorite wine from Muga, and in this powerful and ripe year, these late-harvesting vines ripened thoroughly and delivered a full array of aromas and flavors so that the wine has plenty of depth and complexity. It has a very classical profile, with incipient tertiary notes, perfumed, floral and rich, textured and beautifully balanced. They compare this 2015 with 2009 and 2005 in terms of style but with freshness in the style of 2001 and 2010. It's enjoyable but should also develop for a long time in bottle. One of the finest Prado Enea vintages. 108,000 bottles produced. It was bottled in November 2018. There's no 2012 or 2013 of this. There will be a 2016 and 2019, but no 2017 or 2018. 2020 is still a question mark, they have not yet decided it.

Reserved and polished, this is a Prado Enea with great class and focus. It’s so aromatic,with plum, peach, cherry and cedar character. Salted olives, too. Medium-to full-bodied with very fine tannins and a long, fresh finish. Elegance with power here. Give it three or four years to open, but already impressive.

Champagne Louise Brison Rose de la Cote Bar Brut Nature 2015

100% Cote de Bar, 100 % Pinot Noir, 100% Barrique-Ausbau

Die Weinberge von Champagne Louise Brison liegen auf rund 320 Metern Seehöhe und sind geprägt von Kimmeridge-Kalk und Mergel mit einer Auflage aus Tonerde – ähnlich wie im benachbarten Chablis. Der Grundwein wurde im Saignée-Verfahren gewonnen und im Barrique vergoren, die Assemblage im Edelstahl zusammengeführt und im Juni 2016 auf die Flasche gezogen. Degorgiert wurde mit null Gramm Dosage im November 2022.

Der Champagner Louise Brison Rose de la Cote Bar Brut Nature 2015 zeigt eine regelmäßige, anhaltende Perlage bei einer intensiven rosa Farbe. In der Nase ausdrucksstark und offen, mit Aromen von roten Früchten wie Kirschen und Johannisbeeren. Untermalt von subtilen Holznoten. Am Gaumen wissen Knackigkeit und Struktur ebenso zu überzeugen wie eine gute Länge. Ein großzügiger und fruchtiger Rosé.

Farbe: intensives Erdbeerrot mit feiner Perlage. Nase: Der 2015er Rosé de la Côte des Bar ist ein farb- und aromenintensiver Champagner mit Noten von Grapefruits, Roten Johannisbeeren, Preiselbeeren und Granatpafel. Hinzu kommen Berberitzen, etwas Ingwer, Kalk und Blutorangenzesten. Abgerundet wird das Ganze durch einem Hauch von Patisserie. Gaumen: Am Gaumen präsentiert sich der 2015er Rosé de la Côte des Bar ähnlich intensiv – kein Wunder, als Saignée-Champagner ist er kein Schmeichler, sondern ein Essensbegleiter. Und so treffen die Aromen von Agrumen und roten Beeren auf eine gute Portion Gerbstoff, eine feine Perlage und eine Säure mit viel Zug. Der Kimmerdige-Kalk sorgt für viel Spannung und Energie sowie für einen prägnanten Salzgehalt im Finale, der wiederum für einen hohen Trinkfluss verantwortlich ist. Der Wein besitzt viel Kraft, Durchsetzungsvermögen und verfügt auch über eine angenehme Eleganz.

Sowohl William Kelley vom Wineadvocate als auch Antonio Galloni von Vinous haben das Chateau Franc Mayne im JG 2020 dramatisch aufgewertet gegenüber den verhaltenen Fassproben. Bei Parker ging es von 91-93 rauf auf glatte 94 Punkte und bei Antonio Galloni von Vinous sogar noch dramatisch mehr. Auch ich konnte den Franc Mayne 2020 auf der Prowein in Düsseldorf nachverkosten und ich kann Ihnen versichern es ist kein Zufall, dass die Verkoster das Weingut neu und höher bewerten. Es geht hier wirklich bergauf, wollen wir hoffen, dass die Preise nicht so kometenhaft steigen wie die gebotene Qualität.

Das Chateau Lassegue pirscht sich langsam aber sicher immer weiter in die Spitze des Saint Emilion. Wir verfolgen diesen wert nun schon ein paar Jahre, aber der richtige Durchbruch kam ganz klar mit den Jahren 2019 und 2020. Nicht zu reden von einem bärenstarken 2021iger im Kontext des Jahrgangs und der Schwierigkeiten welche der Jahrgang übrg hielt. Solange wir alle gespannt auf die weiteren Episoden des Chateau LAssegue warten, geniessen wir doch in vollen Zügen den JAhrgang 2020, denn dieser ist eine wahre Wonne. Üppig und dicht bei gleichzeitiger Frische, das ist aller Achtung wert.

Coming from dismal yields of 12.5 hectoliters per hectare, the 2020 Château Haut-Brisson is shockingly good and another brilliant Right Bank that's going to represent a tremendous value. A blend of 90% Merlot and 10% Cabernet Franc brought up in just 35% new French oak, it has a sensational perfume of red and black cherries, leafy tobacco, chocolate, lead pencil shavings, and liquid violet-like nuances. Full-bodied, concentrated, and flawlessly balanced, it has ultra-fine tannins, remarkable purity, and a great finish. This wine comes from an 18-hectare vineyard that was purchased by Peter Kwok in 1997, only to be sold in 2020 to Bordeaux native Stéphane Schinazi. The soils here are a mix of fine gravel and granular, quartz-rich silt atop a deep clay subsoil. The farming has been certified organic since 2010, vinification spans just over three weeks in stainless steel, and the wine sees malolactic fermentation in tank and four months on lees before being moved into 35% new French oak, 35% second-fill, and the balance in third-fill barrels.

Die Nase ist sehr betörend und verführerisch. reife Frucht. süssliche Würze. geröstete Nüsse. Sahnemokka. Am Gaumen super balanciert. dennoch stoffig und kompakt. überhaupt nicht anstrengend. Sehr sauberes und langes Finale. Für uns klar über 2014.2015 aber nicht an den Best Ever Meyney 2016. welchen wir noch vor der Primeurwoche im Glas hatten. da fehlt einfach ein gutes Stück.
