Verkostungsnotiz von Mark Squires vom 30. August 2019:The 2017 Quinta da Manoella Vinhas Velhas is a field blend of over 30 different grapes from centenarian vines (110 years) aged for 20 months in 70% used French oak. It comes in at 14% alcohol. Wonderfully fresh in this big vintage—it was picked early—this has lifted fruit. precision and silky texture. If you're looking for a dense. jammy Douro red in this warm year—but it depends on when the grapes were picked—this sure isn't it. That said. it has a Burgundian feel. with intensity of flavor and fine elegance. The ripe tannins easily provide support. At least as it now shows. a little more evident concentration wouldn't hurt. but its finesse is admirable and this is always on the restrained side. No one could dislike this very graceful red. How much you love it will be the question as it ages. We'll see what happens after it settles down—it has some serious potential for improvement. and its freshness should support it as it ages. This is the final blend. but it was a few weeks from bottling when seen.
Ausgabe Web Only 2020: A beauty. with underpinnings of graphite. forest floor and savory spice flanking the blackberry. violet and boysenberry flavors. This full-bodied red offers depth of flavor and lots of freshness. with a powerful. integrated structure in tune with the cedar. dark chocolate. black tea and currant elements on the finish. Needs time in the cellar to unwind. Best from 2022 through 2032. 300 cases made. 50 cases imported. — GS
