James Suckling
This is a deeply fruited version of this wine with very attractive. woody spices through rich. dense dark plums and berries. Big fruit energy here. Bold. smooth tannins and a licorice and plum finish. Very convincing expression of rich mataro.
A boorish, bold wine of thick set tannin and hefty fruit character. dark and weighty, slippery and spiked with clove/cinnamon woody characters. Slips along well even with all that richness and liquid spice gripping the tongue. Big perfume of all the dark fruits and woody spices too. Really pleasing, warming, heartland Barossa stuff here. Mass appeal and a great deal of meaty charm. Go forth! — Wine Front. 93/100
While it’s a proverbial name. it won’t enhance the wine’s prospects with canine lovers - which is a pity. for this is a very attractive mataro that has counterintuitively flourished in the cool vintage.
