Glaetzer (Barossa Valley)

Heartland Directors Cut Shiraz Langhorne Creek 2016

93 Punkte James Halliday für den Jahrgang 2014

James Halliday - Published on 06 Oct 2016

From vines average 40+yo, cool open-fermented on skins, matured vcin new French and American oak for 14 months. Full crimson-purple; supple, mouthfilling and hedonistic, with that velvety softness Langhorne Creek provides without sacrificing shape or focus; blackberry jelly beans and licorice strap are the flavours, even if they sound naff.

and pronounced aromas of black cherries and blackberries with an undercurrent of coffee, aniseed, damp loam, chocolate,

James Halliday - Published on 26 Jul 2014:
Youthful crimson-purple; a shiraz cabernet blend that has awesome depth, yet is not the least extractive, and carries the burden of its alcohol very well. Satsuma plum and sundry spice-poached black fruits, licorice and oak all join the flavour queue, tannins the finishing line.

Glaetzer Anaperenna 2012 Barossa Valley

A blend of Shiraz and Cabernet Sauvignon, the deep garnet-purple colored 2012 Anaperenna is profoundly scented of creme de cassis, blueberry compote and black cherry pie with hints of aniseed, pepper, chargrilled meat and underbrush. Big, full-bodied and voluptuous on the palate, the generous blend of blackberry and meaty, savory flavors is structured by a solid backbone of firm, grainy tannins and refreshing acid through the very long finish. Drink it now to 2024+.

Glaetzer Anaperenna 2010 Barossa Valley

A Shiraz and Cabernet Sauvignon blend, the 2010 Anaperenna has a deep purple-black color and aromas of warm black cherry compote and creme de cassis over hints of smoked meat, earth, Indian spices, truffles and damp loam. Rich and opulent on the full bodied palate, the generous fruit is well supported by a medium to firm level of fine tannins and refreshing acid, finishing long and earthy. Still youthful and a little taut, it should drink best 2014 to 2022+.

Yes, the 2017 Wallace Shiraz-Grenache blend is heavily weighted toward Shiraz (as usual), but it's the Grenache that makes itself known on the nose, adding lovely florals and raspberries to the slightly darker toned fruit of the Shiraz. Medium to full-bodied, this is supple yet crisp—perhaps a bit youthful and angular—but finishes with silky tannins and plenty of length. In another year or two, it might rival the impressive 2016.

91 Punkte vom Wine Advocate für den Glaetzer Bishop Shiraz Barossa Valley 2017Verkostungsnotiz von Joe Czerwinski vom 11. Juni 2019:

Like all of the Glaetzer bottlings tasted this year, the fruit comes from the Ebenezer subregion in the northern reaches of the Barossa Valley. The 2017 Bishop Shiraz combines blueberry and boysenberry fruit on the nose, and flavors from the fruit flow easily across the palate, picking up hints of raspberries and baking spices. It's medium to full-bodied, supple and juicy, with a long, mouthwatering finish.

I love what Glaetzer's inclusion of Cabernet brings to the 2017 Anaperenna Shiraz-Cabernet Sauvignon, giving it additional fragrance and length. Lifted aromas of mint, raspberries and dark chocolate mark the nose, while the full-bodied palate is rich and velvety but never heavy, framed by supple tannins that turn silky on the long, long finish. Showing great focus, energy and intensity, expect it to still be going strong in a decade.

Juni 2019:

A profound example of Ebenezer fruit and skilled winemaking, the 2017 Amon Ra Shiraz is full-bodied and velvety in texture, picking up more nuances the longer it sits in the glass. Floral and mint notes appear on the nose, along with a mix of raspberries, blackberries and baking spices. There's plenty of new oak, but it's been mostly absorbed into the wine, leaving a drink that's rich and sumptuous. And just when you think it's over, a bit of licorice appears on the long finish to add a pleasant finale.
