Coming from Denis Barraud's tiny 4.52-hectare vineyard planted on gravelly, sandy soils, the 2020 Château Les Gravières offers a darker, richer, medium to full-bodied style as well as notes of black cherries, plums, toasted spice, and tobacco. Made from 100% Merlot that spent 14 months in 60% new French oak, it has beautiful integration of its fruit, tannins, and acidity, plenty of mid-palate depth, and a great finish. It's well worth seeking out and has a solid decade of prime drinking ahead of it.

Tasted on two separate occasions with consistent notes, the 2022 Château Les Gravières is 100% Merlot harvested between September 14th and 17th from healthy yields of 55 hectoliters per hectare. It's a medium to full-bodied, ripe, yet seamless and balanced Saint-Emilion with lots of meaty, smoky red and black fruits, some tobacco, roasted coffee, and spring flower nuances, fine tannins, and a great finish. It's a beautifully made 2022 with lots to love. Due to the unfortunate passing of owner Denis Barraud in 2023, this estate is now being managed by Denis' nephew, Franck Canal-Descude, with consulting advice from Thomas Duclos's Oenoteam.

Powerful, concentrated, lush and creamy, there is a wealth of perfectly ripe, balanced, opulently-textured fruit on the palate and in the finish. 2022 was the last vintage for the owner, Denis Barraud who passed away shortly after the wine was made. A delicious and well-constructed wine from the Phélan team in 2022. Polished, balanced and just so drinkable. A gorgeous texture straight away, clean and clear, juicy, vibrant and grippy with a chalky, flint and graphite element to the fine tannins. You really feel they've taken the best the vintage had to offer with precise definition to all the elements; ripe bramble and cherry fruit, high acidity with a wonderful spiced and mineral signature from the St-Estephe terroir. A combination of power and charm that builds in structure and intensity while keeping a mouthwatering energy from start to finish. A top buy - and could be upscored in bottle! Tasted three times. 2% Petit Verdot completes the blend. 3.8pH. 96IPT. Harvest took 13 days in total, from 14 - 26 September whereas the last three years picking has started on the 24th September. A yield of 28hl/ha. 75% grand vin production. The team have also been working for the past few years on different yeasts for fermentation in order to get more precision and a stronger link to the vineyards. 50% of production in 2022 was vinified using natural yeasts - five strains taken from five plots and used to vinify grapes from each of their respective parcels.

Weniger eichenbetont als üblich zeigt der 2023 Les Gravières ein dunkles, elegantes Bouquet von Veilchen, Lakritz, Gewürzen und dunklen Waldbeeren. Mittel bis vollmundig, reichhaltig und lebendig, besitzt er einen fleischigen Kern aus Frucht mit strukturierten Tanninen und einem zarten, langen und ätherischen Abgang.

Das Aroma von Beeren, Kreide und Walnüssen kommt sowohl in der Nase als auch am Gaumen deutlich zur Geltung. Mittel bis vollmundig. Jod. Meeresmuschel. Großartig. Probieren Sie es aus.

Zweimal verkostet mit gleichbleibenden Noten, sollte der 2023 Château Les Gravières problemlos ein herausragender Wein sein. Rauchige rote und schwarze Früchte, pfeffrige Kräuter, Graphit und ein Hauch von Eichenholz im Hintergrund prägen das Aromaprofil. Er ist mittelkräftig, mit dem fokussierten, geradlinigen Stil des Jahrgangs, guter Tiefe im mittleren Gaumen und reifen, aber sich entwickelnden Tanninen.
