Vinous / Neal Martin Januar 2019:
The 2016 Brane-Cantenac has been on a roll of late. under the watchful eye of Henri Lurton. This latest bottled vintage is superb. The divine. pure blackberry and bilberry bouquet develops touches of graphite in the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannin. silky-smooth texture and a superb bead of acidity. This is not a powerful Brane-Cantenac. and it is perhaps less austere than I suspected en primeur. but it should drink beautifully over the next three decades. If you have a penchant for traditional claret. it really doesn’t come better than this.

The 2016 Brane-Cantenac is very pretty and nuanced. The richness of the year comes through. and yet there is a good bit of freshness and energy as well to balance things out nicely. Brane-Cantenac offers a fine expression of the year in a wine that will drink well with minimal cellaring. Time in the glass brings out an attractive register of floral notes that add to the wine's undeniable appeal.

So much ripe and sweet tobacco on the nose with currant and blackberry character. Full body. intense tannins with density and beauty. It’s a wine with great structure and panache for this estate. Try after 2024.

Aged for 14 months in 50% new and 50% one-year-old French oak and blended of 73% Cabernet Sauvignon. 21% Merlot and 6% Cabernet Franc. the deep garnet-purple colored 2016 Saint-Pierre leaps from the glass with exuberant Black Forest cake. blackberry compote and cassis with hints of cigars. earth and violets with a waft of iron ore. Medium-bodied. the palate has a firm frame of grainy tannins with fantastic energy and depth. finishing on a lingering chocolaty note.

Huge on the palate. with tremendous depth and exceptional balance. Saint-Pierre is once again one of the Sleeper wines of the Left Bank. Don't miss it. Tasted two times.

This is fantastic. offering lots of fresh tobacco and blackcurrants and undertones of hazelnuts and chocolate. Full-bodied with firm and chewy tannins. yet ever so polished and refined. One of the most structured St. Pierre’s in years. A blend of 73 per cent cabernet sauvignon. 21 per cent merlot and six per cent cabernet franc. Try from 2024.

The 2016 Malescot Saint Exupéry is fabulous. Powerful and explosive on the palate. the 2016 offers serious intensity. but it also appears to be holding back quite a bit of its potential. Moreover. what impresses me most is that in 2016. intensity is delivered more with finesse than with the brutish power that is such a signature of Malescot. Deep and resonant. but also remarkably polished. the 2016 Malescot is a winner. Hints of iron. smoke. cedar. tobacco and scorched earth add nuance. but it is the wine's sense of poise that is most remarkable. I loved it. Tasted three times.

The 2017 Rauzan-Ségla is coming together very nicely. Soft and silky. the 2017 is a wine of pure and total finesse. Sweet red cherry and plum fruit. tobacco. cedar and licorice add pretty top notes. but more than anything else. the 2017 impresses with its statuesque elegance and total balance; nothing in particular stands out. For that reason. Rauzan-Ségla is the sort of wine that is easy to overlook. and yet all the elements of a top notch Left-Bank wine are present. Tasted three times.

Medium to deep garnet-purple colored. it sings of lifted red and black cherries. black raspberries and cassis with a rose hip tea and lilacs undercurrent plus sparks of tobacco. pencil shavings and tilled earth. The palate is medium-bodied. elegant and mineral laced with firm. fine-grained tannins and beautiful freshness. finishing with great length and depth.

The 2016 Rauzan-Ségla has an intense bouquet. one of the most perfumed that I encountered during my round of tastings. Violets infuse the ebullient black fruit. and traces of pencil lead emerge with time. The palate is medium-bodied. very pure and supple. displaying wonderful balance and a satiny texture that belongs in a lingerie shop. This is an utterly seductive Margaux. one of the finest in recent years as this estate continues its upsurge in quality. Few 2016s will dole out such inhibited pleasure.

The aromas of blackcurrants. sweet tobacco and sandalwood are tantalizing. Then it turns to subtle. dried fruit. Full-bodied with dense and powerful tannins. yet ending with finesse and vertical nature. Very deep. Power with finesse. Try after 2025.

Eine Sensation in Flaschen - Eine grosse Überraschung bei unserer Verkostung am 07.11.2018 in Zürich im Dolder Grand auf der UGCB Verkostung des Jahrgangs 2016. Chateau Durfort Vivens 2016 Margaux, mann könnte es mit der Liebe auf den ersten Schluck beschreiben. Die bis dato höchste Intensität des Cabernet in diesem Wein, 94% purer Cabernet und deren wolllüstige Cassisfrucht die einem geradeaus ins Gesicht springt. Dann im Mund fängt der Wein an zu rocken, er ist wild und ungestüm und dennoch hat er eine so tolle Balance, man ist schier sprachlos. Wie geht das in so einem Wein. Der 2016er wird mir immer im Gedächtnis bleiben. Was danach folgte ist eine Elexiervariante mit dem 2018er. Diese Miniproduktion und dann gefolgt von gleich drei Traumjahren (2019,2020 UND 2021!) für diesen Wein, jeder Jahrgang einfach auf seine ganz spezielle Art und Weise eigenständig.

This is really superb with beautiful density and ripe tannin texture. Full body and a round and polished texture. Rich and impressive but all in class. Made from biodynamic grapes. Almost all cabernet sauvignon.
